I can’t believe it’s over. Excuse me while I go off and cry for a bit…
For six out of the past nine months, __ar and I have been getting up in the dead of the night tirelessly every Sunday to work on what is perhaps our greatest offering to date, and we enjoyed every minute of it. It has been 25 episodes of pure awesome, but all good things must come to an end. With this, we bid the Fate/Zero series farewell… until the Blurays come out about three months later!
Here’s the staff list for the second season:
TLC/Editor/QC: Raze
Timer: fgghjjkll
Encoder/Typesetter: __ar
A few words from the other staff! First, from __ar:
UFOTable did the series and novel justice, and I am proud to have worked on this magnificent series. While it was pretty much just Raze and me for the most part, we managed to get by week to week and pull through to the end! Dear UFOTable, Please animate Heaven’s Feel. Your friend, ar.
And from fgghjjkll:
I’d like to thank you all for your support. The weekly hundreds of “thank yous” have always motivated me to wake up on time to work on the shows that you guys would be grateful of. This is truly one of the best projects I’ve worked on. It has provided me with an experience that is a lot different from what others provide, and I look forward to sub more UTW things, knowing that there is an audience that enjoys watching us.
It’s been such an incredible honor to work on this series and share it with you all, and your support throughout has been invaluable and nothing short of fantastic.
Thank you, and thank you again!

Great job, you guys!!
One of the reasons I enjoyed Fate/Zero was because I thought the story had more depth in it compared to Fate Stay Night. There was much more backstory to each of the characters; it made this series better than FSN.
After watching this Fate Zero, I’m kind of hoping they remake FSN (though I know they already made a movie and an anime out of it). Maybe they could tweak the story a bit more to make it deeper. I dunno.
Anyway, thanks again UTW! You guys are awesome!!

13. Thank you!

Hahah.
Nico did pretty well this week. There was one TL error right at the beginning, but it was obscure enough that I had to double-check the novels to confirm.
I’d say a 4.5/5.

Anyways there was some blunder int his episode.
First of all, in stay night Shirou says that the thing he saw on the sky was like a black moon, and this was nothing like a moon.
Two, in the SN visual novel the sky is relatively clear on that night, only the smoke making it darker, but here it was outright cloudy as hell.
Three. According to the fuyuki map in Ataraxia, the area where the fire broke out was like an outskirt near the docks, with family homes. Here it was close to the inner city and contained of a lot of two or three floored building, and floats.
These are relatively small things, i’m just mentioning it because it was strange.

Only Kerry, Kariya and Kirei had any backstory in F/Z while F/SN had backstory to Shirou, Sakura, Archer, Saber, Kirei, Shinji, Assassin, Einzberns, Zouken and a little bit of Tohsaka (much more than in F/Z). Unless you meant F/SN anime of course.

@Progeusz
here
1. Shirou’s sudden interest in Sakura. He pays no attention to her before, and just because he walks home together with her ONCE at night, he suddenly gets absulutely in love with her, somehow…
2. Archer dies before his arm is transferred to Shirou, and such the arm should disappear as well along with his body, just as how Rider’s head also disappears after she is beheaded by Casters minions in UBW.
2. The whole thing how archer’s arm starts to destroy Shirou’s body. A servant and a master are always in connection trough their circuits, and circuits can not evolve and can not grow. Also Archer is the same person as Shirou, so their circuits are the same. Archer’s arm should not harm Shirou in any ways.
3. How Shirou stops wanting to be a hero just to save Sakura. First it’s his goal of life and his most defining characters, plus isn’t a hero’s job to save people?
4. The whole thing basically. Fate stay night is centered around the Grail war, only, there is no grail war in HF, not even servants even, because they are absorbed by Angra-kun. So what’s the point?
5. Zouken and Assassin. It’s just my preference but i think, introducing a villain in the last minute is despicable, but the problem is Assassin. He was never properly summoned by Zouken and his appearance is…. strange and is never explained. He just pops out of Kojiro like some alien for some reason even tough all the servants was already summoned.
6. characters out of character. Archer saving Shirou for some bullsh*t reason, Kirei is being a comical character at the beginning, Rin seems outright evil sometimes even tough she is established as caring person with a strong sense of justice. Etc.
Suddenly these are the things i can think up, without even trying.
39. And thank you guys for subbing and releasing so soon after airing.

A pretty good finish to a wonderful series. When you said this is probably the greatest project you will ever have the good fortune to work on, you weren’t kidding. No one can say what the future has in store for us but Urobuchi Gen’s Fate/Zero is what you get when you take a lump of charcoal like Kinoko Nasu’s FSN and turn it into a diamond. It isn’t flawless but he did the very best anyone could do with what was already a fundamentally flawed franchise. And good God was it better than the original! I’m not even sure how I will go back to FSN now that we have Fate/Zero. Perhaps the same way I go back to lesser films rather than watching the same Top 10 over and over again. But like opting to watch a lesser film, it’s going to have to be one of those whimsical “we haven’t seen this one in a while” moments that leads me back to FSN, I think. Fate/Zero was just so much better in every respect.
.
There were some echoes of last week’s episode in this week’s episode’s direction, moments where it was pretty obvious the director was relying upon viewers to have read the novels and played the visual novel in order to fully appreciate what was going on. They did their best with dialogue or visual clues but like Episode 24 things felt a little Studio DEEN UBW at times. Gil didn’t exactly scream Grail corruption. Kiritsugu didn’t exactly scream Angra Mainyu curse taking a physical toll on him. It wasn’t exactly clear with Aoi whether she had gone insane or whether she was partly braindead due to the asphyxia at the church. Thankfully, these moments weren’t nearly as prevalent or pervasive as they were last week.
.
In the novel or not, I would have liked to have seen a glimpse of Waver five to ten years later. I would have also liked to have seen a little more with the Fujimuras and Kiritsugu’s relationship with them. A throwaway scene of him conversing with Raiga, of Taiga clutching his shirt sleeves or crushing on him, something even this small and short would have been nice. Closest we got was an incredibly zoomed-out shot of Taiga at 19m16s that lasted all of two seconds.
.
Thanks so much for working on this, UTW. Looking forward to the BDs in September and holding onto hope for SEASON FOUR of Carnival Phantasm in several years.

49. Will a batch be out soonish (a week to a month)? I stalled on this quite a few episodes ago, so I would like to have an idea of whether I should grab the individual releases or wait for the batch.

50. Maurox on June 24, 2012 at 2:37 am said:

“then, what moral value that we can get from this show?”
What I learned from Fate – “Don’t try to be an idealist or you will end up with a f-ed up life and a twisted psyche”. Just the kind of thinking I feel strongly against.

51. @Spiller
Um, re: the batch, not too sure. Probably won’t be that far away, maybe the next week or two I guess. Depends on whether stuff needs fixing, will consult Raze about it.

52. “Itโ€™s funny how people are bad mouthing F/SN when they havnโ€™t even played the VN.”
I’ve played the VN. All three routes. Gotten all the ends. All the Tiger Stamps. And I would still place F/Z well above FSN in terms of overall quality. Don’t kid yourself into thinking that if people are accusing FSN of being inferior to F/Z that they must be uncultured Philistines who haven’t touched the VN. Get your head out of your ass. FSN’s a good game but good lord is it riddled with problems, both as an individual piece of art and as the foundation for an enduring and ever-growing franchise. F/Z skirts around the worst of FSN’s problems while elevating to new heights the best of its triumphs. It is the Fate universe at its best and we are sadly not likely to see another like it ever again.

The scenes with Kariya confused me a bit. Did his meeting with Sakura in the bug room really happen or did he just have another of his bug-induced delusions? I first thought it was real, but then I noticed that it played out very similarly to his fever dream in 23, so maybe it isn’t real after all. Do the novels contain the answer?

From the scene in the church I was sure Rin’s mom was dead. I sure as heck think she should have been.
With the way Saber was forced out at the end of the war I think her reaction to Shirou at the beginning of F/SN is really odd.
One thing that stood out to me that was different then what I remember in F/SN. I thought the huge fire was suppose to be the result of Kotomine touching the Grail and the Grail finding him unworthy because he never really took part in any of the fighting.

@Logeres: Kariya makes it back to the mansion just to die, and the “dad” thing is him hallucinating his desire as he really just keels over and dies, giving Sakura her “yep, can’t fight back, this is what happens” despair.
And lets just say it now: Urobuchi has said that he knows some things don’t line up exactly (“Kiritsugu only spoke to me thrice” “I fought Gilgamesh in a sea of flames” “I touched the Grail and it set everything on fire”) but, well, what can you do, he tried, and had fun creatively working around the canon references. Yeah, there are minor inconsistencies, but that sometimes happens even with the same author going at one source, much less a second.

60. Progeusz on June 24, 2012 at 2:56 am said:

@chenga91, I think the best term is playing, but you spend the most of the time simply reading… I really recommend the VN, all three routes as HF is most likely to be considered a sequel to F/Z while Fate and UBW are really good too. For sure, they’re better than anime.
@Exkirion
1. She’s the main love interest in HF. It’s quite common actually that people notice someone just like that some day.
2. Archer has Independent Action B, so it’s no surprise part of him remains in our world for some time (vide UBW). Ilya/Tohsaka/Kirei could use some spell too.
3. He falls in love with her. Love is the strongest emotion. Nothing wrong with that considering it’s Sakura’s route. Being superhero is his dream from childhood days. Your true love from teenager days can be something on whole other level.
4. Angra Mainyu was summoned in 3rd war, it’s continuation of 3rd and 4th war. Fate and UBW are basically same stuff as F/Z which makes no sense (there should be a reason why it happened just ten years later – that’s because Grail is corrupted even further). Fate and UBW are centered about basics, HF is actual plot.
5. Last minute? Sasaki turned into Hassan quite early on, like 5th Day or slt? Zouken was the only Master he was compatible with. Well, maybe Kotomine too but he already had two Servants. Main Evil was “random Master and his Servant making people coma” -> Caster -> suspicious Shadow -> Zouken -> Sakura -> Grail. We have to remember that Koujiro was fake and Assassin is special because it should always be Hassan and samurai doesn’t fit to this rule. He was summoned by Caster but his Master died, so he became Zouken’s Servant, everything is OK. I found it strange at first too but it makes sense as whole (well, previous route UBW is all about Master-Servant relationship). Yeah, there was no explanation for Shadow’s appearance, I’d like to read about it too.
6. Archer saved Shirou in other routes too. Yeah, he “wants” to kill him but saves him when it counts the most. I don’t see anything wrong with Kirei liking mapo tofu, it was hilarious. It kinda fits him too. It’s not like he’s 100% serious&evil, he just prefers suffering over happiness. He also learned how to make jokes in F/Z already – vide sarcastic comments on Kariya x Aoi. Rin makes no sense throught the whole F/SN, it’s just that she has many occasions to show her good points in much lighter Fate and UBW. She showed her “Tohsaka magician attitude” from time to time though. You should remember that she coexisted mainly with just her love interest (Shirou) and admired Servant (Saber) in first two routes, long lost sister from opposing family (Matou Sakura) is something different. She expressed her true emotions towards Sakura in the end though. I think HF showed Rin’s character in different situation from another perspective too rather than changing it completely. I have to say though, Rin fell much in in my private Fate/ ranking because of HF, while Sakura came close to top, just behind Ilya and Rider.
No, this episode was the finale. There is no 26th episode. For some reason the TV stations originally had 26 episodes listed (which is probably where those places got the information from), but that was amended recently and they all only show up to episode 25 now, this being the last episode.

1: That’s the reason for the Sakura events that you need to get in order to get into Heaven’s Feel. He spends a lot more time with her, actually talking with her. And technically, he’s not in love with her until about halfway through the route.
2: It’s joined to Shirou after – Archer had to stay alive until the part where the arm was bonded to Shirou and therefore part of him. It sustains itself using Shirou’s energy.
2 (#2): Archer = Shirou as a heroic spirit. Trying to connect a heroic spirit to a human, even though they’re the same base, is a bit impossible. One’s far more powerful than the other.
3: He figured out that he cares about saving Sakura more.
4. They were described as a “front side” and a “back side”. Fate and UBW routes are about the “front side”, or the Holy Grail War, while Heaven’s Feel is about the “back side”, or the stuff hidden by the War.
5. That one I was never quite sure about. Possibly because that Assassin was a fake, and is replaced by the true one.
6. Archer saved Shirou because he wasn’t the person that wanted to “save everyone” anymore.
Kirei’s human as well – he just eats mapo tofu. Rin sounds evil because she’s willing to kill her sister for the sake of the city – at Zouken’s wish, Sakura can go berserk, and Sakura has Rider.
75. Much respect to all of your hard work done here at UTW. This series has been one of the best I have watched and has only been enhanced so much more by your sublime quality releases.

Sakura’s mental state was really disturbingly realistic(given her situation anyway)….
All I can say is that this was an awesome show and Fate/Zero was an awesome story I don’t think it’s better than F/SN(Just like my fav girl is Sakura, First girl wins)plot holes, “mana” animals,improv-“vampires” and redundant stupidity aside, Nothing will ever compete with the epic 3(Fate,UBW and Heaven’s Feel) HF is all that’s left even if both the anime for Fate or the movie for UBW weren’t up to par…I really want to see it animated. By UFOtable of course.
I hope they don’t forget about tsukihime anytime soon either,or Kohaku will star administering the “Medicine”.

Meh. This finale (24 and 25) left out the two bits I wanted to see the most…
Okay, I know Emiya has already been remixed a hundred times already, but one more time here would have been appropriate. The Battle Is To The Strong is nice and all, but it’s been used so much in this anime that it fails to convey the impression that this is the final battle – the one which was announced as far back as episode 1, when Kiritsugu and Kirei decide they are each other’s nemesis without having actually met.
The fight was okay though. Really liked Kirei’s display of Bajiquan. Although I can understand why some would find the animation confusing or cheesy, I thought it did a fair job at showing the style’s power.
Wished the fight had been longer though. I still prefer the 9 minutes version from the sound drama ; even though I don’t speak a word of Japanese, the voice actors make it much more epic to me.
Also, even though I personally can’t think of any way that scene could be portayed, I really, really wanted to see the Gilgamesh’s interaction with Angra Mainyu. I guess Avenger’s diatribe on all forms of crimes and sins in the world and the way he makes his victims abandon all hope before consuming them is not easily conveyed in anime form. It’s a shame really, since this was, for me, the moment both FSN and FZ finally show us what a corrupt and irredeemable force the Grail is.
I mean, in FSN we see Shirou almost give up to the corruption (one of the many moments where the game led me to believe I was headed for a Dead End…), and at the same time Gilgamesh is giving is “Bring thrice as much if you want to stain me!” speech to Saber, making it sound like what nearly consumed Shirou wasn’t such a big deal to him.
Then you read Fate Zero and it turns out that’s exactly right: when confronted to the burden of “all the evils in the world”, the King of Heroes basically shrugged (pardon me, sneered) and told Angra Mainyu to take a chill pill o_O
More than anything else in Fate, I thought that was the moment that established Gilgamesh’s character. In all three routes of FSN and during the whole FZ you have to listen to him brag about how awesome he is and how he is above good and evil, and only at the end of Fate Zero his monstruous ego is finally brought to the test – a test he passes trivially.
Well, I still hope that scene will make it in a later release… Because right now the transition between “Oh hey black mud falling from the sky should I move or wha-HRGLBLBLBL” and “‘Morning Kirei, slept well? BTW I’m naked” is a bit brutal :/
Anyway, thank you UTW for your relentless work on the series ๐Ÿ™‚ we could not be here complaining about the show without you guys ;p

You have fulfilled my greatest wish with these marvelous translations, but it is not enough. I must spend the rest of the next three months searching for some way to recreate the glory I experienced in these episodes, and I must…no, I WILL watch the Blu-Rays to satisfy my final doubts.

So many thanks for this UTW ^^
Fate Zero, Fate Stay Night Saber Route & Fate Stay Night Rin Route (Movie) already finish
maybe Fate Stay Night Sakura Route or Hollow Ataraxia next?

179. Thanks very much for this UTW. One of the best animes I’ve seen and its way better than any of the animes this season, then again not much competition. Watching fate zero really makes me wanna play the visual novels now. Hopefully they animate the next part of the series in the same way this has been done in the near future

Been following this series from start to finish. Your fansubs have been of the highest quality and are highly appreciated. Keep up the good work, folks – and here’s to hoping that someone does get about to adapting Heaven’s Feel eventually.

Just passing by to say thank you UTW, I have always believed you aren’t just the less shitty fansub, but actually a good one, and I still do.

I will mention here that I have not read the Fate/Zero novels, so I am assessing the anime in a vacuum. It was definitely enjoyable, but mostly for the well-done action scenes. Having said that, the action scenes did have a tendency to eat a disproportionate amount of time, which caused character development to suffer here and there. By the end, I admit that I had little investment in the conflict anymore, because no matter how flashy things were, I just didn’t really care who won or lost. The backstories and motivations of certain characters could definitely have used some more fleshing out.
.
Final assessment: Beta tier (third out of a possible five).
(Mind you, I am extremely stingy with the top two tiers. An entry into the top tier happens maybe once every one or two years)

Certain things were rather left in the air for me, as I have not read the light novel. I’ll get on that eventually.
Giant “THANKS” in caps, bold and font size 72 to everyone in UTW fansubs.

This was one of the best anime I ever watched. Seeing this made me want to watch the reproduction of F/SN. Giving in to this desire, I found that this time around I had a far better understanding of the story. The additional knowledge gained from this really helps to understand what they are talking about during the parts where they reflect on the previous holy grail war(which tend to become a lot at the end of F/SN). It was also nice to see the fate-route again of F/SN after 6 years. Time sure flies =3
I highly recommend anyone to do the same, now that Fate/Zero is still fresh in your memory ๐Ÿ˜‰

189. Just popping in to say thanks for subbing one of the best anime I have ever seen.
Thanks.

Thanks for everything! I never saw F/SN before i watched F/Z. I don’t think I would have understood F/SN as well if I didn’t see F/Z first. Now I actually understand the depth of the story. During dialogs in F/SN, I actually pay attention instead of waiting for ‘cool fight-scenes’. Thanks again!!

Thank you guys for this last awesome episode! This show was simpy something really really good. I just hope that you’re gonna keep up the great work you always do.
Have you planned BD Version for this season too?

193. Thanks so much for your HQ subs! Each week I always waited until you guys posted up the new episode before I sat down to watch the show. I wanted the best quality and knew you would deliver. I was willing to wait for your subs before watching earlier releases.
Thanks also for subbing the BD release; I can’t afford this set but really wanted to watch it. Because of UTW I’m able to view it and those funny Irisviel specials. Can’t wait for the last half of the BDs.
Further big thanks for translating the drama CDs. Few people translate drama CDs to begin with so to get a translation for a CD I wanted to understand has been awesome! Listening to it gave me much insight on Kerry-kun’s relationship with Iri and how different he was at the very start when she showed up.

Thank you UTW for providing us with these HQ subs! You guys are just awesome(:
