After a week or so of intense discussions (mostly not about this show), both the translator and editor concluded that make-up sucks, and that she (Script-chan) wasn’t the type of girl you’d wanna wake up next to sober, but with their help she may one day be that girl.
With any luck dead-ends, pit traps and guerillas won’t prevent us from catching up within the week.
Also this is based off Aniplex’s script.

To be clear, as with Fate/Zero this is based on Aniplex’s script with (fairly heavy) TLC and editing.
It ended up being a fair bit of work for all involved, so we didn’t want to confim until we were sure everyone was on board. Hopefully we should be able to catch up by ep2 and maintain a regular release schedule from then on.

  23. You know, I would have absolutely understood if you guys just decided to not do it…
But that you want to fansub this show really makes me happy. Thank you so very much.

  24. Thank you. I’ve been putting off selecting a group for UBW in the hopes that UTW decided that you couldn’t not sub it.

  25. Holy fuck is this really happening!? CR’s script was pretty subpar, so I appreciate this.

Yep nothing but a bunch of minor editing and typesetting mistakes accumulated over several years, most if not all of those later fixed by v2s.
    You sure proved your point

  30. is this CR edit or Original?

  31. its a big huge surprise to hear that UTW finally sub fate

CR translated “aoi to akai” (blue and red) as “blue and white”, “subpar” does not cover it. That’s like… basic shit. Very glad UTW is picking it up.

  35. Well they know they messed up so bad that they released a v2. I’ve never seen a v2 from them before.
    https://www.diffchecker.com/pefdiljl
Quite a lot of lines were fixed, so we’ll see if UTW uses that version to modify.

Just a few days ago they put “smells like teen spirit” in for “it’s nice to be young” and thought is was a good idea to interpret the literal word “weapons” as pepper spray. Yeah, just keep telling yourself all their stupid shit is cherry picked over several years, I’m sure they appreciate you sucking their dicks so enthusiastically.

  38. @a565
Besides the mis-translations or bad grammar (i’m french so i can’t really tell, but if english natives says so …), typesetting and stuff like that are important too.
They’re not the only group to do this, but they use a lot of fancy subtitles from hell that either makes my player/computer/GPU crash, or just skip the part where those subs appear. Wether i use an updated VLC, MPC, or any obscure player or older version, same problem. So i completely stopped watching their releases since i couldn’t watch JJBA properly (i even go as far as boycotting Yowamushi Pedal, which didn’t have a problem during its 1st season).
Keep in mind though, that i have the same complain for groups that try to sub every single piece of text on-screen with the exact same font, rotation, and size. What’s the point when people who don’t own the latest high-performance PC won’t be able to watch it (well, it does appear sometimes, for a few frames …) ?
And, of course, all that shit isn’t fixed in v2s or anything, unless everyone get a crash.
I can even drop UTW, no matter how much they exist for the sole purpose of providing good subs for the Fate franchise, and go back to Hatsuyuki or CR/HS, if they fall into that scheme and become unwatchable. But for now, i thank them for all their work, and let’s rewatch F/SN.

    >Just a few days ago they put “smells like teen spirit” in for “it’s nice to be young”
Absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s called liberal translation, “it’s nice to be young” is also a liberal translation of what was actually said but you don’t seem to have a problem with that. Probably something to do with your bias.
    >and thought is was a good idea to interpret the literal word “weapons” as pepper spray.
Haven’t watched that specific episode of that specific show, but I’m sure that was an acceptable translation in the context of the show.
I’m going to ignore the rest of your post since it was all ad hominem.
    @BKF
    >Besides the mis-translations or bad grammar (i’m french so i can’t really tell, but if english natives says so …), typesetting and stuff like that are important too.
But their typesetting is almost always excellent.

7:19 “You’re an early riser, Tohsaka.”
Really? Doesn’t “You’re here early.” make more sense here? Shirou from what we can gather is often at school this early, whereas Tohsaka as we clearly find out is not a morning person, so it’s rare for her to be at school as early as she is. So calling her an early riser on the first day he sees her at school this early doesn’t really make a lot of sense.

I heard that there are actually longer versions (several minutes) of ep. 00 and 01 which were shown in preview events/cinema’s. Which means that those will be available on the Blu-ray’s.
Hopefully you’ll be able to work on these and some of the extras. No rush, of course.

  83. Yay! UTW steps up to the plate again! Excellent work! I’ll be looking forward to the rest of it throughout the season. I know it’s not that great, but I felt inspired to at least take a stab at a tribute to your hard work:
“I am the pen of my translation
Scripts are my body, and signs are my blood
I have subbed over a thousand shows
Unknown to Trolls, nor known to Praise
Have withstood Flamers to create many files
Yet, those hands will never know rest
So as I pray, Unlimited Translation Works!”
    Keep up the great work!

  84. ( •̀ •́)σ And there ye have it! (*^-‘) 乃

  85. @Rokudaime
Yeh, unfortunately even CR’s video is pretty weak due to bitrate starvation. Doesn’t take much to lose any soft detail in lower contrast areas, especially in combination with debanding (cr’s video has a ton of banding sadly). It’s nearly impossible to losslessly re-encode dark areas from fairly lossy video (even crunchyrolls 1080p is only ~3mbps which has some real major edge detail retention issues which leads to automatic generation loss pretty much in dark areas). In this case it’s better to throw away some detail which isn’t really noticeable to improve the video where you can notice it.

  86. Irie Naoki on October 14, 2014 at 10:13 pm said:

    @Rokudaime
They do sacrifice a little of the extra detail but like here
    http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/95918
The banding is most all gone as you can see on the left wall and I would much rather want that for a small price of extra detailing which will of course be there when the BD’s are out.

  105. To each his own… Thnx for subbing UBW UTW!! ȏ.̮ȏ

  106. CR's advocate on October 15, 2014 at 10:33 am said:

But “mister” is a total acceptable translation in that case, because japanese have the tendency to use family member pronouns when talking to complete strangers, and Shirou doesn’t know anything about Illya at that point of the story, so that is the only meaning he would infer.

  107. While I agree that “mister” is generally acceptable as a translation of “oniichan” when using it to talk to (in this case seemingly) complete strangers, I have two points:
    1) The translation is not meant for Shirou, it is meant for the viewers, which means it’s not that relevant if he knows who she is or not
    2) Whether the viewer knows who Ilya is or not is also not so relevant, what is relevant is that she knows what the relationship between her and Shirou is, which makes “little brother” a more accurate translation in this particular case, since she’s the one saying it and teasing him deliberately.
Of course, it can also always be left as “oniichan”, which allows each viewer to interpret it as he/she sees fit and is not uncommon in fansubs.

  108. Friendly point on October 15, 2014 at 10:59 am said:

Citations please on “use family member pronouns when talking to strangers”. That’s surprising news to me.
We’re not watching the show as Shirou though, only through his perspective. You’ll be correct if Shirou himself questioned the whole thing, then you can say he thought Illya called him mister. Since Illya was the one who said it, you may as well infer her meaning literally “big brother” or as I would have preferred “Onii-chan”.
But alas, if we don’t like it, we have UTW now to save the day ~

  109. wooohh!!!

Such a UTW fanboy. I swear, it’s like I go into an episode feeling like it’s better when I download from this website, while HorribleSubs/CR always leaves a bad taste in my mouth before I even start. Probably wouldn’t have ever watched something like Fate Kaleid Prisma Ilya if it wasn’t UTW subbed. =P

    “Ojisan” means uncle.
Watch any anime that has people related and not related and tell me how often this word comes up.
What alot of people dont seem to understand is that the meaning changes based on *context*. In the case of that image above, “mister” is a more….right translation compared to “brother”.
Would YOU call a random stranger “dearest brother”? Looks at this random Steins;Gate video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bf0aYBk0OQ
Note he used “mister”. If it werent for the English, he likely would’ve used “onii-san” or “ojisan”

May I add, you don’t have to feel forcedto dothis if you indeed don’t want to workon anything but it’s nice of you to bring this to us leechers even if we may not deserve it (what with the constant complaining).
I may add,I already find they’ve been leaps and bounds above DEEN in some details with this adaptation. Episode One even nailed exactly what Lancer’s lance is supposed to do. Without going into spoiler territory, they keep that up and this will likely please most watchers.

I want to thank you guys for working your asses off to translate this show. The gradients look nicer with your encoding and the translation is way less clunky. I compared your translations side by side with Commie’s CR rip the other day and by the 5 minute mark was convinced that CR translators only possess a fifth-grade reading level. Yours is so much nicer, and for the first time ever I could actually understand the summoning incantation that Rin uses. I’ve known about the ten sephiroth and kabbalah stuff for a long time and yet the references to it in the summoning were so badly translated in other versions that it went right over my head until now.
Please ignore all the trolls, they have no self esteem and are threatened by people with genuine ability.
If you’re really concerned about HS stealing all the downloads, you might consider starting a counter-campaign on /a/ to educate people about the amount of work you put into your releases and why they’re superior to HS. Hatsuyuki are already pimping out their version of UBW over there and HS is constantly trolling with lies about how they translate. It’s doing a lot of damage because there are so many newcomers that are completely ignorant on the board.
And even if the torrent downloads seem low, keep in mind a lot of people with shitty ISPs get your subs DDL from animetosho and animesharing.

Also I don’t mind -kun and -sempai being included in the subs since there is no equivalent in English to convey the nuance, but for the love of God, please don’t leave oniichan untranslated like some people are suggesting. Mister or big bro are both better than leaving it untranslated.
Am I the only one that is starting to suspect Crunchyroll is actively coordinating a smear campaign in the comments for this the last bastion of good fansubbing?

  148. Translating onii-chan as mister would be inaccurate – contrary to your fantasies, little girls in Japan do not call older strangers on the street “onii-chan”. “Big bro” is not as inaccurate, but isn’t what a secluded girl/woman like Ilya would use. Seriously, if you can’t handle/grasp/understand “onii-chan” by now, you should probably watch more chinese cartoons.

You have made this one a very very happy guy. 🙂 I’ll be comparing it to CR and Hatsuyuki since Commie has a long/bad track record.
Also, is the fan translations of the game that bad? I never questioned it too much when I played it but the guys at commie say they are shit and I’m rather curious about that. SIlencing the ONIICHAN debate once and for all:
    Japanese Ways of Addressing People
    Norie Mogi
    Institute of Linguistics, UAM
    The use of family terms
Family terms are a popular kind of address form in daily life and they are also used vocatively.
Higa (1976: 109-110) suggests the use of forms of address reflects the complication of the Japanese
society, especially family terms, because, family terms can also be used in more flexible ways than
in some European languages9. Kinship terms are often employed for addressing someone, who is
not a member of one’s family, including complete strangers, and if the speaker does not know the
referent’s name. This sort of use of family terms is known as fictive use (Suzuki 1973: 158). The
fictive use of family terms seems to have some rules, such as all family terms cannot be employed
for referring to someone. Also, those family terms, which show lower in hierarchy than a speaker,
such as younger sister, younger brother, my daughter, my son, my wife, and so on, cannot be used
vocatively even though they can be used to refer to a person. Vocative use means term of respect
but those terms mentioned above does not indicate showing respect but rather humbling.
Accordingly, they are inappropriate for vocative use.
Kunihiro (1977:26) argues that the fictive use of family terms is unlikely to appear in the US.
For instance, when the Japanese call a waitress, they often use onee-san “elder sister”, and they call
a waiter onii-san “elder brother”. Onee-san can be an elder sister, someone’s elder sister, an elder
sister in-law, a young female neighbour, who is older than the speaker, and a shop assistant. Onii-san can be used in the same manner as onee-san. It does not matter whether a speaker knows the
addressee or the referent or not, family terms are employed.
    also see this: http://senseis.xmp.net/?JapaneseNameSuffix
Now you can all stop being so incredibly ignorant about this. It’s called FICTIVE USE and it’s incredibly common. “Big brother” is the literal translation, but anyone with even a single year of Japanese class under their belt knows that literal translations often suck. The most appropriate localized translation for English is “Mister,” which English-speaking children commonly use to refer to elder strangers.

  154. @Cyou
Because different people are working on the show.

  155. @Longcoat:
Your argument has a basic failure: Shirou is NOT a stranger to Illya. What you’re saying is correct and I can imagine a translator thinking the same way, but when someone knows source material it’s clear that “mister” is not an accurate translation.

  156. dbull620 on October 19, 2014 at 12:00 pm said:

    @Reddie:
Well, if you consider the source material you would know that Ilya is actually OLDER than Shiro is, in which case using “onii-chan” as a form of familial recognition would be incorrect, instead she would say “Otouto.” How do we know Ilya is older than Shiro? Simple: she was born 8 years prior to the events of Fate/Zero, and Fate/Stay Night takes place 10 years after Fate/Zero does. Ilya is 18 years old, and as a Japanese 2nd year high school student, Shiro would most likely be 17 years old given that the events of F/SN happen in early February, making Shiro 2 months away from becoming a 3rd year student.

  157. Reddie on October 19, 2014 at 3:49 pm said:

    @dbull620
Oniichan would not reflect the age difference, granted, but it would reflect her imuoto-like attitude towards Shirou, which is futher explored in VN. Adding to this that she knows about Shirou being Kiritsugu’s foster son, I find familial meaning of “Oniichan” to be most natural here.

  158. Bystander on October 19, 2014 at 11:18 pm said:

    @Reddie & dbull620
You’re both wrong. Yes, Illya is not a stranger to Shirou in the familial sense, and yes is in fact older than Shirou. However, at this point the show, neither Shirou nor the audience know this. There’s this thing called context, and its something that matters whenever you’re trying to translate any language effectively. Please consider ALL of it next time.

  159. Mirage on October 20, 2014 at 3:46 am said:

There’sindeed the subject of context BUT there’s also the double entendre in which the the word is used. She’s using the word both because it means brother and because it can be used to refer unrelated people. Plus, she IS indeed playing thelittle sister role, she does it to a tee in a lot of her appearances.
That said,it’s up to the translator what context to use. Sadly things like wordplays and such can be lost in translation and it’s indeed better tojustchoose what’smore appropiate for the context at hand. Besides, most peoplewhodo notice already know enough to pick up short words or phrases and those who can’t won’treally be losing out much, unless it’s an essentialpiece of information and not justcleverly disguised foreshadowing.

It’s written when you launch the VN. Don’t destroy the myth !
Btw the translation of Illya’s Oni-Chan is quite difficult. I wouldn’t know myself how to handle it because like Mirage said, it’s a typical Japanese worldplay …

  163. It would be quite difficult for me to handle if Ilya’s in front of me and starts calling me Onii-chan.

  165. Longcoat on October 21, 2014 at 1:47 am said:

The translating of Oniichan is a doozy because there is no proper equivalent in the English language for this kind of double meaning.
Considering that Ilya being Shirou’s adoptive sister through Kiritsugu is supposed to be a big reveal to the audience, having her call him “Big Brother” right away would really spoil things, since in English, children simply do not call strangers by family terms. In the context of the English language, if Ilya calls Shirou “Big Brother” there is only one logical conclusion the audience can make, namely, that Ilya really is his sister. So right away, newcomers to Fate will assume they are related somehow, and the later reveal will lose its intended impact.
Because of this, I think the lesser of two evils is to translate Onii-chan as Mister. While the dual meaning will be lost, this is unavoidable either way, and at least by using Mister the later reveal of her actually being his sister is left intact for the dramatic effect Nasu was going for. I think this is the most faithful way you can translate it to at least preserve the dramatic function of this part of the story.

  166. Mirage on October 21, 2014 at 3:13 am said:

@Longcoat: And this is precisely why I wasn’t even sure why people kept bitching about it. I could see se the whole shitstorm about “Clo” in Prysma, because people get really picky about nickname-changing and such (it happened in Railgun with Sparky lol), but going nuts for something as smallas this “mister” makes me wonder if perhaps people will only be happy if they see a bunch of japanese phrases and words in the actual subs, rather than proper translations.

Contrary to others, I would recommend starting with 2006 Fate/stay night anime adaptation. It received a lot of bashing from VN fans, but many people new to Nasuverse liked it. You’ll get a general idea of what this is all about. 2006 anime sorta retells one of 3 routes from VN and this one is adaptation of second route. Of course if you’ll ready to read VN, this will give you best coverage available. Then comes Fate/Zero, it’s a prequel for VN and anime alike. Then you can watch just about anything.
I would not recommend UBW movie, it has so rushed pacing that even people who knew VN had trouble getting what’s going on.

    @Anony:
Fate/Zero -> a wikipedia summary of the Fate route -> This ->Heaven’s Feel movies as they come out.
The UBW movie was ok but it’s not as good as this is. The Fate arc in the VN is terrible and really only exists to 1:go into Saber’s backstory, and 2:provide something for UBW and HF to subvert–and then the anime makes it worse.
But in any case, Fate/Zero is easily the best standalone material (the only thing from F/SN that rivals it is Heaven’s Feel and HF isn’t standalone AT ALL), so you should watch it first. You won’t quite appreciate how detailed and sweeping Nasu’s vision was in making F/SN if you go with F/Z first, but on the other hand you’ll understand what’s going on without having to play/watch the Fate route, which, as I’ve mentioned, is really bad. Most of Saber’s angst in F/SN is clear from F/Z.
(Look Fate is basically Shirou being a chivalrous asshat to Saber for like the first 30 hours, and then realizing what an ass he’s been in the last five minutes and apologizing as she fades into nothingness. The anime made it worse, but it was unpleasant to sit through even in the VN.)

  172. Mayhem on October 21, 2014 at 8:32 pm said:

She would never use a slang term of the vulgar masses like “bro” to refer to someone, it wold be out of character for her.

  178. Longcoat on October 22, 2014 at 8:34 am said:

@Reddie Mayhem’s argument was posted previously by, ironically, CR’s Advocate of all people. This conversation is beginning to descend into infinite regress. I agree with him for a similar line of reasoning.
@everyone having trouble with the onii-chan translation issue:
Let us place the whole argument in the framework of what Nasu, the author, was trying to accomplish dramatically in this scene. To put it another way, let’s consider what kind of reaction Nasu was anticipating from his audience the first time they read the VN. What kind of dramatic effect was he trying to achieve?
For the original Japanese audience, the first time they read through Fate/Stay Night and got to the part where Ilya passes Shirou on the street and refers to him as onii-chan, the Japanese readers would have assumed she was using it in the fictive sense (referring to elder strangers in a respectful way). This would be their default conclusion since they don’t know that Ilya knows Shirou, they only know that Shirou does not know Ilya. The Japanese readers would have placed significance on Ilya’s warning to summon the servant, but would not have ascribed any significance to her using “onii-chan” as it’s use is very common in the presented context.
Later on in the story, when it is revealed to Shirou and to the reader that Ilya is, in fact, Shirou’s sister through Kiritsugu, then suddenly the Japanese readers would have recalled that first encounter on the street and realized that “onii-chan” carried much greater significance than they first assumed. This is a paradigm shift, for both Shirou and the audience. It is at this moment, and not before, that the audience is meant to realize they are brother and sister. This way, Shriou’s shock and the audience’s shock are simultaneous, and the audience can empathize with what Shirou is feeling, emotionally putting themselves in Shirou’s shoes. This is basically the whole point of the VN being written in first-person perspective and not in third-person omniscient. This is why Igyman’s argument that it doesn’t matter what Shirou knows is BS. What Shirou knows and what the audience knows are supposed to be identical, they are experiencing the world through his eyes.
Reducing all this to the simple terms of essential narrative function, you can say that Nasu wrote it like this:
    1) Shirou meets a strange girl for the first time. The girl refers to Shirou with a term that children commonly use to refer to elder strangers in a respectful manner.
    2) The audience and Shirou see the girl as a stranger, and take note that for some unknown reason she has taken an interest in Shirou. How mysterious.
    3) Time passes. We learn that the girl is Ilya von Einzbern, another master.
    4) Shirou and audience discover that Ilya was Kiritsugu’s daughter. Surprise ensues. New significance is bestowed on their first encounter. I c wut u did there, Nasu.
This is the big picture, and the context which so many commenters here are failing to grasp. In order to preserve / be faithful to the dramatic effect Nasu originally intended for this sequence of events, you cannot translate onii-chan to “big brother,” or any other term which forces the audience to conclude early on that they are related. It is too soon for that revelation and would destroy the dramatic effect. You must use a term that children would commonly use to refer to elder strangers in a respectful way. In Ilya’s case, you must also consider that Ilya is an aristocrat who doesn’t use slang. In English, there is only one term that fits the bill, and that is “mister.”
@Reddie you can’t use little boy because onii-chan is only ever used to refer to older brothers or older stangers. Translating it to younger brother or little brother or little boy is objectively wrong (the Japanese term would be “otouto” otherwise) and is also disrespectful, so it’s completely out of context. “Boy” is also disrespectful. “Young man” would not be disrespectful, but again, it is objectively wrong, and it loses the dual meaning of onii-chan, so how is it any better than just using “mister?”
There is no English equivalent to onii-chan in this context. You cannot retain the dual meaning when you translate it to English. That is all there is to it and there is no use crying over something that can’t be changed. Mister is the closest translation there is, no other term is appropriate.
I can only pray to the translation gods that UTW’s translators are more intelligent than all the weebs in the comments section. People like igyman and oort make me lose a little bit of faith in humanity.

What about people who don’t know any Japanese in spite of watching subs? Leaving it completely untranslated will confuse the hell out of them. Trust me, these people do exist. I introduced anime to a friend a year ago and we watch stuff together regularly. I’m still explaining to him what basic Japanese words like oniichan mean. (I had to explain sempai to him.) There are probably others like him. They shouldn’t have to reach for a Japanese-to-English dictionary to understand what Ilya said.
And then there are those who know enough Japanese to know that oniichan means big brother, but don’t know about fictive use (quite a few commenters a couple pages back). They will just assume Ilya is Shirou’s little sister. They won’t get the dual meaning and will end up spoiling for themselves the reveal through ironic coincidence.
Not to mention, leaving it untranslated is just going to give other groups and their insane fans (ie Commie, HS) legitimate ammunition against UTW. I mean, if you leave it untranslated, you by definition are not translating. That would be a shame considering how much better the translation for everything else is over other groups’ releases. I live and die by UTW but that would be really disappointing. I know I probably sound OCD about this but it just bugs me to think that UTW’s MAL entry for Fate is going to explode with red lines containing the word “onii-chan.”
Completely different train of thought, but am I the only one who would vomit buckets if Crispin Freeman voices Kirei again in the dub? His casting pissed me off so much with Fate / Zero. Why even bother to dub it if they’re not going to attempt to be faithful to the original voices? Jamieson Price is no Nakata, but he was a much better choice than Freeman.

Yeah, I’ve said myself that in general one should try to make translations as inclusive as possible, but UTW has a pretty firmly established style and audience already, so it’s more important for me to stick to that in this case. It works both ways – one could just as easily say that by translating it, I could drive the more extreme believers towards Hatsuyuki (which is much worse, imo). Either way, we might as well go all one way or the other.
In the end, I’d like to think it’s not really a big deal.

Is there anything Xythar doesn’t edit? It’s near impossible to avoid this guy in the fan-subbing scene. I have nothing against UTW, however this guy has made so many releases pure hell for me to read.

Btw, what about the town districts Shinto and Miyama? Will you keep the names or translate them?

  189. Upboat fotc for UBW TL! 😀

  190. I get blamed for a lot of things, which is interesting because I don’t think people have any way of knowing what lines I am or am not responsible for without looking at the original pads.
@synced: We’re keeping the names Shinto and Miyama (which is actually at odds with previous translations, but the staff agreed it was best this way).

  191. @Enz
We won’t really be announcing staff for this because of “reasons”. I’ll update the project pages though when I get some time/am bothered.

  194. @UTW
I just want to know that you guys are still going to finish this series and not drop it. Also, are you going to do the BD release for this as well? I can bear with watching horrible subs or commie in the meantime but I would want to archive the BD release from you guys.

  195. I agree with bray, Im still waiting for you guys to at least announce that you are willing to do it or not, and how is going. 3rd episode will be released soon and we don’t want to suffer from those 2 speedsubs. Quality >>>>> Speed, though you are still pretty late with relases than usual.

  196. Rokudaime on October 23, 2014 at 10:23 pm said:

    @bray & Swede
Why would they announce now if they are going to to the BD’s or not? That’s something to consider/think about once they’re done with the TV releases. They might know how they feel about the matter at this point in time. Also, even if UTW does not do the BD’s, there is always a chance that some other group will do the BD’s using UTW’s subs.

  197. The blurays have already been confirmed to have extra scenes. People are too lazy for that.

Why the fuck is it taking you lazy fucks so long to get the subs done? Ep 1/2 still not even subbed and ep 3 is out tomorrow. EPIC FAIL! Don’t give a fuck how good the translations are if you take 2 years to get one episode out.
    Stick with Commie.

  201. Xythar on October 24, 2014 at 5:18 am said:

By rights, the TLC doesn’t really have time to work on this, but we’re pulling through anyway because it’d be a shame for UTW to fade away without subbing their namesake.
While we will try to catch up, episodes will ultimately get done on a “whenever people have time to finish them” basis. If you don’t like it, nobody’s forcing you to stick around and wait.

  202. Googol on October 24, 2014 at 6:41 am said:

If you don’t want to wait, just watch it elsewhere. CR is your best option in terms of speed.
There’s no point in coming here to complain. Not everyone is free to sub Chinese cartoons for the rest of their lives.

Goober STFU. UTW does a better job than CR and Commie put together and their release is worth waiting. They do it for free and aren’t entitled to you. Stay with your failtastic Commie subs you retarded manchild. Their subs cater dumb fucks like you.

    lolno.
Maybe few years ago or smth.
It’s not even original TL now… just crunchy edit.
    No thx.

  208. Googol on October 25, 2014 at 9:55 am said:

Fate/Zero too wasn’t an original TL as far as I know, but UTW’s releases were still better than others.

  209. Nah, this is pretty fucking ridiculous. If you’ve got such lax time restraints, why even sub it as it’s coming out? I wanted to stick with you guys because I’m not fussed about time but you might as well hold out and just sub the BDs at this rate. Yeah, the group’s winding down, but that’s all the more reason to give one last push instead of screwing over your fans.

  210. There is nothing lax about it. I’ve been so busy over the last couple weeks dealing with two double episodes on top of everything else I need to do that I’ve barely had any time to spare. Would I like to just say fuck it, put everything off for BDs, and get back like 10+ hours of my life every week? Sure, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the team felt the same way, but given that BD projects have about a 1% chance of being finished when they’re not just shifting TV scripts, I thought we’d better try and at least get the episodes out to you as they were done. Clearly this was screwing you over, so my apologies.
That’s also why I’ve spent the last four hours or so going over the script for the third time with the TLC instead of just going to sleep already so that I can finally get episode 1 out tomorrow before waking up at 6am the next day to get ep3 edited before other shit comes up.
You want one last push? You’re looking at it. Wait or don’t, but get some perspective instead of acting like a petulant child when the most you need to do is sit around while other people do the work.

  211. Not gonna lie Xythar, but I’ve always had a bit of a biased opinion towards you and Commie because of one Dark_Sage, despite the prick he is 99% of the time. However, Commie is pretty decent when they don’t troll (reminds of gg subs, along with their divisive fanbase) and I really have to commend all your effort in helping UTW defend their namesake. Kudos to you and the motley crew formed to work on this, what I hope to be, amazing anime. Don’t overwork yourselves and definitely ignore the trolls!

  212. Xythar on October 25, 2014 at 1:21 pm said:

Thanks. I’m hoping we can catch up once these double episodes are out of the way, but yeah, can’t make any promises.

Hey Xythar, just wanna say I really am grateful that you and the team are putting all this effort into UBW. I definitely would be extremely tempted to say “wait for BDs” if I was in your position. So thanks again for pushing through. ~

So yeah 1st set of BDs confirmed for May 2015? Just putting this out here, first of all. I know no further details…
Anyway, as long as you guys still intend to finish this, I’ll be waiting. Ain’t gonna ask you to catch up quickly or anything, I understand you guys have other stuff to do too (though I admit, “catching up within the week” did get my hopes like -really- high).
Frankly, I might not be able to hold myself from grabbing *something* every week to satiate my hunger for this series (and by that I mean taking other subs to see how the episode goes), but in the end you guys’ work is the one that’s worth keeping. Especially the BDs if you really decide to take them.
So yeah, all in all, thanks, and I’ll be waiting.

  219. Xythar you mentioned you’ll be editing ep 3 today/tomorrow does that mean it should be out within the next couple days?

  220. Can’t say, sorry. Editing isn’t really the time consuming part – it’s more going over the script with TLC. I would definitely like to catch up, and it’s far more likely that we will now that the double episodes are out of the way, but I can’t make promises about things that I can’t do on my own.

  221. Genjutsu on October 27, 2014 at 10:22 am said:

CR: “Oh, have I struck a nerve?”
UTW: “Oh, have I made you angry?”
CR’s wording for Archer’s line is better. Why dumb it down?

  222. Don’t know where you’re getting the CR line from: http://puu.sh/csAz4/c97d302b72.jpg
And no, it’s not better, because it implies some kind of deliberate provocation on Archer’s part when his line is more like “could i have [inadvertently] made you angry?” The following lines should make it clear that he’s not deliberately trying to piss her off.
