It’s finally here! On behalf of the UTW-THORA team, I proudly present to you the third Rebuild of Evangelion movie!

UTW was only two months old when we released the EVA 2.22 movie almost three years ago, and at the time I wasn’t expecting to be working on the third movie. But here we are today, with pretty much the same team, but with three years extra experience!

We’ve teamed up with THORAnime once again to bring you this release. Head over to their site too to give them your thanks!

A few smallish translation/editing notes off the top of my head:

Show »

1) I’ve decided to translate パターン青 (literally “pattern blue”) as “blood type blue” in this release, in line with the official English rendition of the term. We used “pattern orange” in 2.22 (pattern blue was never spoken).
2) All other translations for in-universe terminologies are consistent with our 2.22 release, including “Battle Stations One/Two” (it’s translated as “Condition II” on-screen in the movie, but not only is it a somewhat lossy translation, it would also be a problem when we have to distinguish it from another formation later on, which we have translated as “Guard State One/Two”).
3) The term “Lilin” is treated as a collective noun (i.e. like the word “humanity”) in the release. It’ll make sense to those of you who know what the term refers to in the EVA universe.
4) The “networking” part of Asuka’s nickname for Mari (“Networking Four-eyes”) refers to how Mari supposedly used her network of acquaintances to become an EVA pilot (we used “Favored Four-Eyes” in the preview). I thought it was a closer translation than what we had before (read here for more info) but the meaning seems to be lost to some of you, so I apologize for that.

Special thanks go to fnord, Minami, and archdeco for their work on the ED kara.

We will be subbing the short live action section in the beginning. Please give us some time.

Please enjoy!

Mahou Sensei Negima! ANIME FINAL

Here’s the long-awaited Negima movie! I’ve been looking forward to working on this since the day it was announced. The movie is an alternative ending to the manga, which will be ending soon.

On that note, it has been subbed with original Latin phrases (this means all spell names are left untouched). We assume the majority of people who will watch (and enjoy) the movie are fans of the manga, and have read it enough to know what certain spells do (a lot of them don’t make sense, anyway). If you’re still confused, we recommend using Google, or checking a Negima! wiki for further information.

Adding on, roughly 15 signs were typeset for the DVD. There’s no point in going all-out, as SHAFT may decide to SHAFT the blu-ray and make life harder for me. The 15 or so signs were the most important of the movie, but when the blu-ray is released, all 180+ signs will be typeset.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Latin!

Without further ado, here’s our staff list:

blakbunnie27 (Translator)
Raze (Quality Check)
Daiz (Encoding)

…and I took on the roles of timing, typesetting, and editing.

We hope you all enjoy the release, and we look forward to seeing you again for the blu-ray!

Ashita no Joe Live Action Movie

Download HD: BD Release will be done when its done.

English subs from the leaked Singapore (?) DVD was horrible, so I decided to sub this myself. It’s about 50% completely re-translated, 25% tweaked, and 25% untouched.
It’s been over 2 years since my last Japanese movie release, and the live-action adaptation of Ashita no Joe manga marks my comeback.

This movie was directed by Souri Fumihiko, who also directed the masterpiece sports film Ping Pong (2002) and Zatoichi remake Ichi (2008). Animated feature Vexille (2007) too, but that movie sucked, so I’ll pretend it never happened.

Special thanks to my long-time film editor Brains (eye), Kusion, __ar, and fnord for helping out with with this release.

Update (10/7/2010): 1080p and the 720p v2 patch released.  Changes from the v1 version include less heavy typesetting at the 1:17:40 UBW chant (still the same on-screen typesetting; only the blur on the sliding polygon was removed) and ending lines at 1:44:46, and extra script editing, courtesy of Path (thank you!).  The 1080p version already uses this revised script.

I’m actually not sure if I want to redo and redistro an XviD 480p v2 version.  Please let me or my staff know if you strongly feel a 480p v2 is necessary; remember, this will affect our resources.  To give an example, a side effect would be the distro for our other releases (like Amagami SS tonight) being negatively affected.

Update (10/8/2010): 480p v2 Released. Torrent is delayed atm – Bob64

——————-

On behalf of Unlimited Translation Works, I very proudly present our latest release: Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works!

If you have not seen the FSN anime or played the FSN Visual Novel, I highly recommend that you at least watch the anime before watching this movie.  The movie assumes its viewer to be at least familiar with the anime, and the first half an hour or so will likely confuse you otherwise.

UTW was pretty much formed to sub this movie, so this release marks a group milestone.  Translation for this took ~9 hours split over two days, from a pretty terrible PSP raw I used due to its small filesize and the fact that it was one of the first raws to become available.  The staff were absolutely amazing as usual and really made working on this an enjoyable experience.  Thanks go to Kusion for his Unlimited Timing Works, Nikon for his Unlimited Timing Check (not really, he actually ruined the timing) ( ?(???)?) and Editing Works, ar for his Unlimited Encoding Works, Bob64 for his Unlimited Sign Works, and Ershin and aznskman for their support and assistance.

There may be small inconsistencies with regards to FSN jargon to what you may be used to from watching subtitles of the anime, or playing mirror moon’s FSN English localization.  My entire FSN experience has been rooted in the original Japanese, and my rendering of certain terms may be different from accepted lingo; I have tried to use these “official” terms whenever possible, however.

The following is more of Kusion’s shit. It’s all true, however.

We’d also like to state that we, at UTW, completed this release using a 1080p workraw. Don’t believe me?

Yeah. We’re awesome.

Oh, yeah. If you haven’t yet, join #nanasaki@irc.rizon.net for some awesome UBW discussion and free ops. Shameless self-advertising, etc.

If you experience any playability issues, use MPC-HC with CCCP. This is the only setup that we guarantee will play without problems, notwithstanding hardware/CPU issues.  If you aren’t on Windows, try MPlayer.

No MU links because lol uploading 10GB on Megaupload.  Remember, you can always grab the releases off our bots in our IRC channel (which you should be lurking in), too.

Joint with THORA, translated (from scratch) by yours truly.  I actually had the script done the day the BD came out, but there’s a lot of work that goes into subbing a two hour long movie.  The encoding also took a few days to finish. It was pretty cool though, final QC was completed shortly after the 1080p encode was done.

I hope we didn’t lose too many first-time viewers of this movie, but either way I think I can safely say this is the version you’ll want to archive.  Enjoy!

EDIT:: Three things.

1)  If you experience any playability issues, use MPC-HC with CCCP.  This is the only setup that we guarantee will play without problems, notwithstanding hardware/CPU issues.

2)  We have only one release bot, and she is getting pounded on hard.  If you could spare a bot or two to help us distro, please contact me (Raze) in our IRC channel.

3)  Typo fix patch released; the link has been pasted above. The patch fixes only the 720p or 1080p versions. Be sure to read the readme before using the patch, or risk having to redownload all those gigs again.  The  version of the patch deletes your original file: prevent that by either first making a copy of the original video in case something goes wrong, or using the DDL version of the patch.  Alternatively, you can simply download the latest script, rename it with the same filename as the video, install the fonts included, and the subs will load.

Just to clarify, THORA’s version is exactly the same as ours; it’s just named differently.  The patch will work on THORA’s version if you simply rename the file as directed in the readme.
