Suisei no Gargantia – 12

Rackage in SD is still more Rackage than you can handle. Trust me.

Well, the TV station royally trolled us this episode by temporarily rescheduling the show into a standard definition timeslot, meaning that this episode was aired in SD only.
We’ve used the TV broadcast for our usual 480p release, and for now we’ve put out a temporary 720p release using the only HD source available – CR’s video. We’ll be replacing this release with a proper HDTV encode when it airs on another channel in a couple of days, so if you want the best possible quality I’d recommend waiting for that. In any case, here it is, and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing how they wrap this one up next week.
Edit: As promised, episode 12’s 720p release has been replaced with an updated version encoded from HDTV.

  21. @Happy Her name on the official japanese site is “ラケージ” or rakeeji / lakeeji. So “Rackage” seems to sound about right. “Lukkage” and “Yukkage” are just wrong phonetically and ironically if you take “ラ” as “La” instead of “Ra”, “Lackage” is totally opposite of… well, her rackage.

    The END cards will only stay onscreen for a very brief moment after the end credits… Around five split seconds or so…
    If you are using MPC-HC or even CCCP …Try pausing the video and going to the very last second of the show…
    Then start pressing the ” Right ” arrow key on your keyboard one at a time until the end card appears…
    Otherwise… You’ll only see a glimpse of the END card before MPC blacks out the video…
    Example : From this Ep.
    http://www.firegoon.com/u/xi6dg9.jpg
    Screenshot taken a couple split seconds after 24:39 😉
    An easier method is to segment the whole video into frame-by-frame using a particular software, like what I use to create gifs… And the END card can be easily viewed within the last few frames out of thousands…
    Hope I was able to help… Even by a bit… 🙂

  33. Other END cards from Ep. 8 to 11 since Ep. 7 does not have it within the vid… 😀

    I’ve tested on several computers and the included version of MPC-HC should have no issues displaying them: http://puu.sh/3n0OW.jpg
    Episode 12’s HD does not have an endcard currently as they are not included in CR’s stream.

  38. KevinKevin on June 24, 2013 at 10:25 am said:

    I downloaded this CCCP thing and what do you know? It didn’t help a bit, the very last frame of episode 11 is not the end card for me, all it did was SCREW UP my folder settings! All the folders I had to manually reset to my linkings (like detailed list) have been reset!! What the heck!!

    “so if you want the best possible quality I’d recommend waiting for that” <- wouldn't the BDs be the best possible quality though? Unless you are not planning to do them.
    @no ending cards: there is an option under playback called "rewind when done playing", if you have it ticked, it will only briefly display the ending card then jump to the first frame (=blank out). I can see the ending cards fine, whenever there is any.

    Worked for me… 😀

  41. KevinKevin on June 24, 2013 at 12:09 pm said:

    Maybe there is a problem because I am using VLC Media Player? I recently discovered that many fansubbing people hate it. I really don’t know why, VLC plays everything just fine for me!
    Also, you are all saying that I should skip to 23:40…funny thing is, my files only go to 23:39. But come on, I downloaded the same file as all of you guys, that can’t even be possible! XD

  42. KevinKevin on June 24, 2013 at 12:30 pm said:

    @LARGEHARD
    I tried again, I found the advance per frame option on VLC, but when I skip to the end and go frame by frame, the end cards never appear. I don’t know what I am doing wrong!

  43. tormaid on June 24, 2013 at 12:35 pm said:

    @people failing
    Stop using VLC and start using MPC. There’s an option to “do nothing” after playback. You’ll see your end card then, since it’s the last frame of the video.

  44. KevinKevin on June 24, 2013 at 12:45 pm said:

    @tormaid
    That is so strange, it really does work with this player. But still, I don’t think that is a reason to switch. I like everything on VLC, so this is not enough reason to switch. I guess I’ll keep MPC installed just to look at the end cards XD I don’t understand why you just can’t stop on the last frame on VLC…oh well.
    Still, is there any more reason why I should switch? I still can’t understand why VLC is hated so much, it plays pretty much everything just fine!

    >> Still, is there any more reason why I should switch? I still can’t understand why VLC is hated so much, it plays pretty much everything just fine!
    VLC isn’t as efficient as MPC-HC when it comes to CPU usage.
    This is especially noticeable on older, slower computers.
    For example, UTW’s Fate/Zero NCOP 1080p Hi10P video is unwatchable on a Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz laptop when VLC is used, but is OK with MPC-HC with LAV codecs and xy-vsfilter as bundled in CCCP.

    The ‘key’ reminds me of Adiamante. “Yes, we actually /do/ have high-technology planet-destroying-level superweapons at our disposal while living in a deliberately primative fashion, but to come out and say it would have been a threat! Our morality system prevents us from doing anything so violent as a show of power, rather than just waiting fo annihilate you once you conclude us defenseless and finally attack.”

  47. Xythar on June 24, 2013 at 2:27 pm said:

    VLC runs on a different sub renderer to the version of MPC-HC included with the CCCP and has various other quirks such as those described. You can use it if you want to, but most groups I know only test their releases in MPC-HC, so various things in the subs and otherwise might break in VLC. Don’t expect to get much support other than “install CCCP” if you run into issues.

    Don’t see why people bash VLC so much, it’s been working just fine for me the 5 years I’ve been using it. Then again, the CPU usage is of no concern for me on my main computer, but I use it on every other computer I have for video playback as well.
    I might not be able to playback 1080p on some of them, but then they usually don’t support 1080p to begin with, my older computers support and play 720p just fine. My netbook can play 720p, but the screen is 480p, it’s unwatchable on the built-in screen (frameloss and slowed playback) but work just fine if I use an external screen.
    The only time where VLC was put down to knees for me, was a soft-rendered, moving letter with a translated overlay, that was a 1080p video, don’t remember which one of the many series I’ve watched it was from though. The scene was about 5 seconds long, and if I let it play for longer than 3 seconds of it, it would freeze up the video, but continue with the audio until forced quit.

    I’ve only witnessed the audio/video screw-up once, and evidently, no other media player I tried could handle it better anyway. Except for that one screw-up, the CPU doesn’t use much more than 3-4% for me (around 12% on my netbook), the netbook procured no better result on any other media player.

    If there is no problem with the player I’m using there really is no need for me to “question my choice”, however, if you only tell me to try other media players that is a whole different story, there is no reason to not try them.
    On that note, I haven’t tried MPC, so I’ll give that a shot later, just wished it would work on Linux as well, but let’s not be critical.
    I have tried WMP, got annoyed by all the codec downloads and failure to fetch most of them, couldn’t even play an MP3 file last time I tried, downloaded a codec pack of 113MB or something to get them all, and it still would have problems playing some of my media. (Immediately after, I tried VLC and it could play ALL of my media, without downloading 113MB of codecs. Back then, 113MB was quite a big deal to download, just to find out it didn’t work) PS: I don’t really like the over-styled UI of WMP.
    I also tried QuickTime(QT and the alternative QTA), while it can play most of my media without getting a lot of codecs, I don’t like the UI style, but above all else, it use up more than double the CPU workload compared to VLC for me, my Mac-crazy friend says it works perfectly on Mac OS though.
    I’ve tried out some others which I don’t remember the name of, but some quick testing proved them inferior by either using a lot of RAM and CPU or being unable to play most of my media.
    MPC seems to have what I’m looking for in a media player, customizable, lightweight, simplistic UI, so I’ll give it a try.

  80. Thnx for the subs 😀
