   I guess it’s my fault for using VLC (using a Mac is suffering), but something around 13:25 causes the player to apparently just freak out and peg an entire core before freezing. And yet it works fine in mpv even though both players rely on libass. Weird!
   Well, just a heads up to anyone else using VLC for whatever reason. Oh, and thanks for the subs.

   VLC, Handbrake, and MPLAYER all have problems starting around 13:25.
   480p works okay.

    I’m using mplayer2 at 13:25 and I have zero problems. You people who are having problems are using old versions of your players. VLC doesn’t support soft-subs properly so don’t ever use that.
    For Mac users use mplayer extended with mplayer2 binaries.

    That’s pretty bad advice considering how outdated those are. The person who made those binaries recommends those who want GUI to just use VLC these days, too. If you want something modern, go compile mpv (homebrew makes it braindead simple) and get used to CLI. There won’t be new versions of those mplayer2 binaries because the guy who was making them is now maintaining said homebrew version of mpv. (I guess you could compile modern mplayer2 binaries yourself to use with that frontend if you were really so determined, but that seems like more trouble than it’s worth).

    Season 1: Minami-ke
    Season 2: Minami-ke Okawari
    Season 3: Minami-ke Okaeri
    OAV 1: Minami-ke Betsubara
    OAV 2: Minami-ke Omatase
    Season 4: Minami-ke Tadaima
