Here we are with a fantastic episode to kick off the end to the Sisters arc. It comes with a new OP and ED too, so… yeah, enjoy it. We’ll be updating the styling on the OPED with karaoke FX when our guy comes back.

In regards to next week: there will be a special broadcast. A preview (22 min preview, that is) of the Index movie will be shown instead of a new Railgun episode. Seeing as how we’re already doing the movie, and that it’s coming out in late August, we will not be subbing the special next week. Please don’t expect a change of heart, as it’d be useless to waste our Friday subbing a movie we’re already releasing at a later date.

Now, enjoy some more Toaru Bakuhatsu no Frenda. Yeah!

Thanks guys as always! Does this mean a v2 is coming for the karaoke?
Seeing as you’re not doing an episode next week, you could fill that time by subbing MMR3 perhaps…? That totally wouldn’t be a useless waste of your time 😉 Or of course you could take a well deserved break for a week..
Still have the raw if you would like it.

Ohh the OP contents surprised me…I thought it’s going to be that LN SS, but this looks like an anime original (?). More to look forward to.
I earnestly wished for a Kuroko x Frenda meeting, but didn’t think it will really happen. Couldn’t stop laughing at that scene. Thanks a lot UTW & Mazui~!

    Thanks!

  12. 3:03 “so I’m glad they got it sorted it out” one ‘it’ too much
3:05 “now we’ll be able study together” a missing ‘to’
9:34 “if it isn’t it Shirai-san” again one ‘it’ too much
16:55 “the only one’s” -> ‘the only ones’
You should pay more attention, QC-san. But even so, thanks for the release.

Looks like your editor done messed up good.

Well, I guess it’s not fair to say it’s definitely an editor miss.
The problem could have cropped up anywhere along the production line.

  18. I Heard it is a special out there, porblably similar to Index-tan and such, as it was released in oen of the BDs. Would you sub it next week then?

So dissapointed they decided to make filler instead of Liberal arts city or Shopping Mall Demonstration arc

  20. Toumaisgod on August 3, 2013 at 5:31 pm said:

Since you won’t be subbing the special premier, will you sub the Index-tan OVA coming with the movie?

  21. Gaze Of Providence on August 3, 2013 at 5:32 pm said:

Well, if you’re gonna do the Endymion preview, might as well spend your time with Railgun MMR 3, please.

  23. LOL Frenda and Kuroko arguing which of the sempai is the best (in the wrong way).
Just finished 3 episodes marathon and they did a pretty good job retelling the Sister’s Arc while interconnecting it with the events in the main series. And the BGM is pretty good and memorable especially during the scenes in the final leg of the arc.
As things going to slow a bit before they fill up the rest of the season with one of the side story and a special premiere of the Index movie (sort of like Bleach doing it for its 4th Movie), it might end up like in the 1st season. Expanding the Railgun universe with shady/rogue experiment that assemble Misaka and co. with the help of Kongo-san and her minions to stop them.

Aww… they teased us with Mental Out for the first ep of this season’s Railgun… I was hoping for an arc that involves Misaki more.

I’ve been meaning to ask this: How much of the subbing work does UTW do, and how much does Mazui do?

So, asking anyone who is familiar with Japanese culture… Is there some kind of superstition in Japan regarding turtles or turtle blood?

There was an interview with the director regarding Mental-Out: aside from eps 1, she will NOT be appearing anywhere else in Railgun S. Consider that scene with her as a preview.

  31. Dunno if it’s been mentioned before, but check 9:55 ~ 10:15.

Subbed or not, I hope the next episode contains Uiharu and Ruiko arguing about whether or not there’s a retcon happening in the movie, like they did in the comics.

@Marelt: In China, Palea steindachnari (the wattle-necked softshell, which is now endangered), Pelodiscus sinensis (the Chinese softshell, with a Japanese subspecies P. s. japonicus), and a few other softshells were used in traditional medicine, particularly aphrodisiacs. The tradition carried over to Japan, which leads to the modern view of the turtles as aphrodisiacs. The blood is considered especially potent.
In reality, eating softshell turtle doesn’t directly increase sexual potency, although it does give you a lot of energy.

Speaking of the kara effects, I’ve been wondering for a while if there’s some awesome script/program I don’t know about that euronymous used to do the kara effects or if he did them by hand. Either way I like how his ASS tag effects are better than most hardsubbed AE karaoke.

  37. Marelt on August 5, 2013 at 7:50 am said:

    Thanks, Asagi.
Also, is it just me or have the Chinese ground up just about every single living being known to mankind in the hope that it would get them laid?

@Marelt: Are you saying the Chinese ground you up too?

  42. Thank you once again, UTW and Mazui, for the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S releases; your efforts are much appreciated!
Looking forward to next weekend’s episode =)

  43. @Marelt: Ahaha, well, East Asian aphrodisiacs aren’t supposed to help you get laid (they’re not date rape drugs), but rather are said to make you more effective in bed. That said, only some Chinese traditional medicines are supposed to be aphrodisiacs, most of which were foods or derived from foods. Different cultures believed different foods to be aphrodisiacs, though there are no foods with chemical properties that would have these purported effects. The conclusion modern medicine has reached is that old/natural aphrodisiacs functioned solely because of the placebo effect (though many of the foods, like mead in Europe, ginseng and, yes, turtle in Asia, did give you a lot of fast energy, which could conceivably be construed as sexual stamina).
It might seem like China (and, indeed, most of East Asia) grinds up just about everything, from ivory to herbs, into medicine, but that’s just because of the difference in cultures; East Asia was relatively free from Christian influence until the later half of the 2nd millennium. This means that, unlike in medieval Europe where the Catholic church executed medicine makers, surgeons, etc. as witches, traditional medicine was widely accepted in East Asia, leading to countless regional variations on what were mostly placebos in the first place.
Not understanding chemistry at the time, though, when East Asian people heard ‘this will work’ from a reputable medicine maker, they believed it and the medicine would, indeed, function to an extent. In fact, some people would pay more for the same thing because they felt that the cheaper thing wouldn’t work as well. It’s just like how, in modern day, Advil or Motrin tend to be more effective than generic ibuprofen: even though they’re the same chemical, people feel like they get what they pay for, and the brand name drugs should be better than the generic ones.
This isn’t to say that traditional medicine had no real effects of its own but, really, most of what traditional medicine did could have been replicated through Emile Coue’s autosuggestion method (although it is admittedly easier to induce the placebo effect using a placebo that everyone believes in than to induce the placebo effect through thoughts and words alone).
