I’ve gone back and forth with myself on Takane.  But in the end, it’s really hard not to love her.  It’s not really apparent from the IN/ED in this ep, but she has an INCREDIBLE singing voice, too.  Varies a lot by song, though.
Chihaya’s infuriating foreshadow comes to a close next week!  That’s right!  150% more emo than we’ve ever seen before.  Hopefully she’ll laugh and smile like an angel when it’s all over.
Geroppa.

Thanks for the episode, as always.

  17. Finally. Thanks, UTW.

  18. finally. gawd. you guys are so slow!
that was both ironic and serious. i’m not really sure which side i’m on…
for the people who actually like music here: compare and rank! i won’t claim these are the best songs from iM@S, but i think these really show off the strong points of each singer’s voice.
    miki – squall http://bit.ly/sUfqSa
chihaya – 鳥の詩/tori no uta (bird song) http://bit.ly/rSsm5l
yukiho – 好きになって、よかった/suki ni natte, yokatta (i’m glad i fell in love) http://bit.ly/vSbJe6
    azusa – まっすぐ/massugu (straight) http://bit.ly/ssN5CX
    hibiki – 涙そうそう/nada sousou (falling teardrops) http://bit.ly/twMmyi
takane – 月のワルツ/tsuki no waltz (waltz for the moon) http://bit.ly/v53vsJ
other singers aren’t included because, for the most part, i don’t really like their voices. actually, i wasn’t even sure if i should include yukiho or azusa. but i couldn’t leave miki out, and she’s not in the top tier, either.
    my personal ranking goes: chihaya=takane>hibiki>miki>yukiho=azusa
azusa would rank much higher if she didn’t leak vibrato at every opportunity.

  21. Hm, I like Miki More in “powerful” songs like “Sugar Sweet Nightmare” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnhEECQGigE same for Hibiki (“Dream” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp3VQJ2WyY4 ), but I guess you wanted to mainly point out the differences of the voices 🙂 Too bad the Takane version of “Melted Snow” does not seem to be on Youtube, that’s also pretty good. And come on, no “Nemuri Hime” for Chihaya? 😀 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw4dxeRqKIw

  24. Know what? I’VE WAIT THIS EPISODE FEELS LIKE 1 MONTH ..

  25. For fans of both Takane as well as Bakemonogatari, here’s Takane (Yumi Hara) singing Stable Stable:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe9n7BpI4iw
    It’s pretty good cover.

  26. ** Staple Stable. I knew I should have proofread that post. 🙁

Now if only something else would be working as well.
I think “Staple Stable” is my favorite Takane song even though it’s just a cover.
Character specific would definitely be “Flower Girl” followed by “Tsuki no Waltz”
She does a great job with “Dream” too
Though I guess no one really cares what I think.

    “shtick” ?

  30. Aidolon on November 16, 2011 at 2:56 am said:

@martinez: Did you consider looking the word up in a dictionary before asking if it’s a typo?
    It’s not.

@martinez: Sorry mate, after re-reading it, my previous post was ruder than I had intended. I just meant to point out that when you encounter an unfamiliar word, it’s best to check a dictionary first to see if it’s simply something you haven’t heard/read before.
The Merriam-Webster definition for shtick (or “schtick”) offers a pretty good explanation:

    @TruePsyche
I would have to agree for the most part with your personal ranking except I would put Takane clearly over Chihaya, mostly because her voice sounds absolutely amazing on any song she sings, where Chihaya gives lackluster performances on a considerable amount of songs, mostly the ones that require a lighter voice. Takane to me will either do one of two things on a song:
    1. Be the clear winner and blow the other singers out of the water
    2. Tie for the best or top 3 performances, usually with either Chihaya or Azusa
For examples of Takane’s range she can go from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlUQktKg32Y
    to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4lDykaRpnE
she is easily the best performer of Kiramekirari, she’s the only one I can actually listen to and enjoy singing that admittedly terrible tune.
And that Metome ga au … need I say more about her voice? Amazing.

  36. @jbm – my hatred for hanekawa overrides my love of miki, sadly. i find it hard to listen all the way through either version. hibiki singing ‘dream’ is a new discovery to me. a very pleasant discovery, at that.
@aidolon – i’ve loved that cover for months. i like her rendition even more than saito chiwa’s. i REALLY wish they’d done a cover of 君の知らない物語 (kimi no shiranai monogatari, bakemonogatari’s ED) somewhere in there. it’s one of my favorite songs of all time.
@moon4lyfe – i’m afraid i’ll have to disagree with you. while i love takane’s voice (with its pop qualities, esp. the clarity of her grace notes), i just don’t think she matches the appropriate style for a lot of songs. kiramekirari especially sounds best to me with childish, nasally voices like yayoi’s or ami/mami’s, despite their technical and pitch deficiencies. takane’s voice is so clear-cut and technically perfect the song loses its frenetic energy and dies. that particular vid you linked just sounds flat (boring) to me. it’s possible we’re just looking at different aspects of their singing, since kiramekirari (especially the master artist 2 remix) is one of my favorite iM@S songs.
chihaya sounds more comfortable with the style of iM@S’ song list, possibly because she’s been on the team longer. but when she misses, it hurts a lot more.
    takane with a fitting style – http://bit.ly/vZahaE
takane missing the style completely – http://bit.ly/tsXbVv
takane needing more practice – http://bit.ly/vSupqT
    chihaya with a fitting style – http://bit.ly/rIyL4e
chihaya missing the style completely – http://bit.ly/t7RSaZ
chihaya needing more practice – couldn’t find any 😡
both of them on a newly composed song:
    takane – http://bit.ly/u9wwEc
    chihaya – http://bit.ly/vc9XCR
note: i’m purposely avoiding their image songs, since they’ve clearly spent more time on their own songs than on others’. not really a fair comparison.
personal vote goes to chihaya for the power she puts into the song. when takane goes breathy, it kills the phrasing of longer passages by breaking them up line by line. if she belted more like chihaya does, my vote would go to her just because i like the bright quality of her voice better than chihaya’s dark timbre.
i may sound like i’m coming down hard on them, but they really are my favorite singers. i adore chihaya period, and my love for takane is growing rapidly, so i often end up comparing their strengths and weaknesses.

  37. Great scripting of Takane’s language. However, I should point out that the ED title is Kazahana and shouldn’t be split as Kaze Hana as was done in the lyrics.

Even though it’s written as “Kaze Hana”, Takane pronounces it as “Kazahana”, so the song is more commonly known by that title.
And btw, honorable iM@S subbers, the single for “CHANGE!!!!” is out now, can you please update your translation for future subs? 😀
