The studio decided to go full troll with the character names (Godfree? Seriously?), so please note the following name changes:

• Yoruko –> Yolko
• Schmidt –> Schmitt

Lisbeth’s side story is up next, and should be the last side story before the “main arc” kicks in. Let’s see how they do with this one.

Waitin’ on SD now.

3. Are there any more side stories after Lisbeth?

4. Thanks, as always. :>

5. Thanks for SAO 6!

6. Wouldn’t them doing Lisbeth’s story completely spoil
Kirito’s special ability?
8. Nice! Thanks very much!

Anyone know how long this series is going to be? 12 or 24 episodes? More?

10. Why don’t both you and Gotwoot upload the HD versions to your respective nyaa.si accounts? When the partner that uploads the HD version doesn’t upload near the same time, it screws with my RSS feeds.

11. Cinia Pacifica on August 12, 2012 at 3:37 am said:

@Sinon: Yes, probably. But we don’t actually get to know much about it, if they properly go by the novels. As the name of the skill is not really mentioned, either.

12. Disregard my comment – I feel like an idiot now.
You post Gotwoot’s upload, uTorrent’s RSS feeds for OS X just suck at updating.

Thanks utw and gotwoot for release! Wonder how this side story is going to turn out for the main arc, considering side stories came out after main story.

14. Thanks, looking forward to watching! 😀

there’s one more side story after lisbeth’s one well that is in the middle of the main story. and the ep are about 20+. I dun tink 20+ eps are only for SAO. probably going to include the next one, Lyfa

Seriously… The fuck is the main story only just kicking in after next week? Could somebody give us a spoiler free synopsis of the ‘main story’? How does it differ from what we’ve been getting, what we’ve had to date could of easily been entwined in a ‘main story’ does something happen that becomes a complete new focus and change the whole pace of things or something? Or does it just slow down and focus on them actually making progress through the last of the floors?

17. Alfred on August 12, 2012 at 4:01 am said:

well you don’t need to change Yoruko -> Yolko
I think Yoruko is better than “Yolko”, seriously was there anyone named Yolko???
and Schmidt is better, if you change it become schmitt, it become less attractive, why don’t you change schmidt -> Smith ???
I think that’s better

OMG SO AWESOME!
Thanks so much for the episode!
PLEASE HAVE A GOOD NIGHT AND A GOOD WEEKEND!

19. by speed of how things are going, i have a feeling that fairy dance is going to be included in the series. If that happens, i think this is going way too fast for the anime. Though this is solely based on my opinion as a light novel reader 😀

@ Atticus Lee: (Update) XviD will be stalled until mid-week probably, I have to reinstall windows from scratch and thus can’t encode – ar. (From Accel World 18 post)
As long as they leave out the scene at the end of the side story where he actually shows it to Lisbeth, it wouldn’t really spoil anything. Even leaving in some of the less direct references or hints to it wouldn’t outright spoil it, since without that last scene it’s something that mostly only people who already know about it would be likely to pick up on.
22. Glad to get this! The Crunchyroll subs for this week were somewhat inadequate…

@asdfjuma: The ‘main story’ is much more slow paced. So far we’ve been getting timeskips, I think to show the events chronologically. It is going to be about Asuna and Kirito and the clearing of the last few floors (kind of)

27. @BloodyEmber
Yes, because everybody hates encoding XviD’s besides me, so with me being the only XviD encoder, XviD’s for Accel and SAO are stalled until i get my encoding pc up and running properly.

god, why would u troll with the character names…
if this is gonna keep up for next week as well, could you guys add a 2nd subtitle with the proper names pls

30. “Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship” :3
Ok…
Adapting with major/minor adjustment to the original storyline ~ It’s annoying but it’s still acceptable to my level of expectation. Although they did cut short of Grimlock’s revelation and his ulterior motivation. Also, they doesn’t reveal the name of the three members of Laughing Coffin.
Changing the spelling of the character ~ I’d cringe so much that I feel I wanna flip a table.
The Lizbeth’s arc is somewhere similar to the way the adapted Silica side story. They would probably alter on how Lizbeth and Kirito meet, their quest and the conclusion of the story.
Oh, well. I can’t wait for main storyline to kick in ’cause most the side stories are kinda so-so except for one or two decent ones.

31. canzer on August 12, 2012 at 4:58 am said:

arite, for all those novel readers, are there anything in the novel that they didn’t include in this arc? any small details or event would be delightful.

32. @asdfjuma: Yeah the main story is actually the beginning of the end of the story really… what we’ve been getting so far is the side stories that the author wrote after the SAO story was written (albeit in chronological order, most of the SAO side stories were not written to appear in order)… so we should get after next week the main story plus one more side story worked into the main story then back to the main story after that….
Just as a side note, if you like this story you should read the Light Novel (as the saying goes books are always better than the movies), however finding the chronological order that you should read it in is kinda obscure since they are not bundled into the same volume…plus its not all totally translated (I mean the SAO side stories)
Sorry to infodump, but I usually look into things that I find interesting, and I can understand that it is confusing to hear that these are all just side stories, however they are not technically useless filler, just a back-story since the main story has a really big gap in time.

33. Charkelle on August 12, 2012 at 5:00 am said:

There’s still the Yui side story, yes, but that takes place in the middle of the main part of the story, rather than during the timeskip like all the one’s they’ve shown so far. I’m sure her story will get an episode too, considering her importance for later things and the fact that she’s in the opening.
.
In terms of this episode (and the previous one), they did cut a fair amount out, but I think they did a pretty good job of bringing it together regardless. There’s one scene in particular it was really a good choice to skip, since it involves a character we haven’t really seen yet, and whose real introduction would really be best left to where it was in the original story. I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of the whole ramen thing, though that’s not really a big issue.

Side stories…. main story. Differences? Um….. what were they again…. the main story is more about them actually clearing the floors and that path. The side stories are the breaks in between. Even the side stories are relevant though. I guess the main story is the plot from ep1…
And the series is reported to run 26 eps and cover vol 1, 2, 3, 4 and maybe 8.

39. That side story was crap

44. I think Kains real name is Caynz (from LN) but I don’t mind whatever UTWoots use. although in anime there’s no story about checking 1st floor :p

45. Thanks for the release.
In the future I suggest you stay with the original spelling for the names instead of changing them to something that 1) sounds worse 2) isn’t accurate – just because ‘the studio is trolling’. Actually in this case, you’re the ones trolling since the script-writer/artist w/e has all the power in the world to name the characters to whatever s/he wants to call them.
This was THE FIRST release from ANY fansub group (save for ARR) that I had to edit myself.

Bloody hell! They twisted parts on this second segment again.
Firstly, design for Johnny Black is totally wrong since he’s suppose to have the gunnysack on his head with 2 holes to see through, as per art design in the volume.
Next is where he and PoH was suppose to have a conversation.
Another is when XaXa was impressed with Kirito’s riding and talked to him.
Lastly, the part where Grimlock was suppose to be “revealed” is mainly because of Yoruko’s announcement of the two rings being bound to the owner’s equipment, and not just skipped.
Too much skipping along. And I’m guessing that they aren’t gonna show the LC’s extermination event too. Suppose to be a major event too, even though they didn’t have a story about it.

😀
@canzer
quite some, such as the way Cainz/Kains was named (ie. looking at that big black tablet where people’s names get crossed over when they die), or …. well, the “almost-ramen” meal with … another important character.
to be fair, the essence of the story was well preserved, though small details were disregarded (for time constraints, since they seem to be gunning for completion of the Aincrad arc and the Fairy Dance arc as well for this season).

49. …Schmitt? Seriously?
I hope you realize that Schmidt is an actual surname in Germany. I don’t know if Schmitt is used anywhere.

50. I dont really like the name changes, I think its simply unnecessary.

Well, still thanks for the release, UTWoots. Much appreciated. <3

58. @カノト
Now you’ve made me curious with your ramen comment. I tried to remember but I can’t recall the chef’s discovery. I’m currently reading novel 8 (ALfheim side-story) so has that yet to happen or did I simply forget it?
it’s actually in the ME and not in the volumes per se.
specifically ME6:Algade Showdown
http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Sword_Art_Online:ME6
Similarly, that few-seconds worth of footage of Asuna demanding that the NPC’s be sacrificed to beat a monster is also a part of the ME, specifically ME1: The Progressors
(it’s actually a manga, and it’s not in the bakatsuki page but it was in a downloadable PDF)

71. Somehow the whole sidestory feels different from the LN Version. It was a good watch but somehow I’m dissappointed.
They cut out so much, it really hurts although it was done pretty good. I’ll also admit I really hoped for some tsundere moments from Asuna but even when they talked about the marriage system is was more like she was just angry.
Considering Lizbeth is next I wouldn’t really be suprised if they just showed how they meet, the fight with the dragon and how they get out and the sword gets forged eventually. They might skip the whole romance part alltogether which would totally change the sidestory again.
I know LN readers have been bitching about the adaptation for a while but can you really blame them? From changing names, scenes and cutting out whole parts or adding others like the friend request from Asuna in this episode, it really just feels a lot different from the LN. Should be understandable that we hoped they would stick to the original a little more.
72. have to agree with some others here about the names…. yoruko > yolko and schmidt > schmitt. esp. with schmidt, coz this name is legitimate and one of the widespreadest names here in germany (besides müller, maier/meyer and such^^). so, can’t understand the change ._.

74. @カノト
Sorry to bother you but would you mind giving me a little recommendation on how to read the novels; in which order, that is. I take it it’s best to finish the 10 current novels first and then read the side novels or the MEs first? Skipping them completely doesn’t seem to be a wise decision since they apparently have little bits of information worth knowing as a fan. Thanks. (:

The way they said it, the name sounded like “Yoruko” to me, so I don’t understand the decision to change it. Thankfully, the character probably won’t appear again, so we won’t have to worry about it in the next episodes.

76. in the LN Raws, KoB was stated as “Knights of the Blood” (the name was written in English, Kawahara spelled it out). note the “the”. i recommend changing “Knights of Blood” into “Knights of the Blood” for accuracy’s sake.

77. Thanks guys! Since it’s in chronological order the shock of the laughing coffin players is reduced somewhat. Still not bad what they are doing.

81. Obviously Grimlock never heard of Iri if he named his waifu the perfect waifu.
Btw, since the anime managed to “mess” stuff up. Did Griselda die or not?

82. thanks for the subs. can anyone confirm the # of eps that SOA will have? i heard 25 but havnt been able to find any credible sources (wiki says 25 but ANN says 12 :s ). plz point me to your reference if possible.
Meh, I wanted XaXa’s remark about horses, I know it’s useless without having the GGO-arc first, but I still wanted it ~w~. IMO, this side-story should’ve been skipped, people will probably recognize the skull mask if they ever animate Phantom Bullet and it’ll lose impact along with the revelation of Laughing Coffin during that arc, I just hope this is not their way of saying “There won’t be another season”
They better announce a 2nd season afterwards, I want my Sinon animated >w> Sinon is MAI WAIFU!!

84. But Schmidt is a legitimate name. You could have just as well turned it into Smith for the same effect :/

85. ok, i’m sorry for being a bit hasty about the names. should’ve watched the ep first >.<
at 10:04 asunas friendlist clearly shows that a-1 (or whoever was in charge for the names) tl'ed yoruko with yolko and at 10:44 you can see that they used schmitt instead of schmidt. sorry ;_;

96. Hmmm, the episode was adapted quite well IMO. LN Reader here and aside from Starless Night, I don’t think the anime has adapted things too badly at all. In fact,
The fact that they try to cover up how Red-Eye Xaxa looks like and not mentioning the horse thing, might be a better hint that the studio might hope to do GGO someday. By trying to obscure him as possible and not mention the horse-riding comment, they might be trying to make the reveal about him not so easy. If it went just as the LN did, GGO’s mystery would fall apart so fast that it would probably hurt it.
well anyways. i wonder if the net oen will be one or two episodes? judging by the other side stories i guess one, but i think this side story especially would work reeally well as a 2-episode one, sicne you could make a perfect cut at the scene where they SPOILER have to spend th night in the Dragon’s nest. let the episode end when they fall asleep, let the next oen begin when they awake again.

Even though these are side stories, I find them very enjoyable. It gives me chills just thinking about how mind blowingly boss the main story will be. Me thinks they will just keep turning out seasons of this over the next few years… its incredibly popular.

@Enz
on the off-chance you’re still reading this:
all the Material Edition doujins except for one are related to the Aincrad arc. the exemption is ME5:Salvia, which is pretty much a post-Fairy Dance side story (and pre-GGO for that matter) without much plot relevance (though it’s still warm and fuzzy and more content is always fun to read).
As for the Side Stories…
you might want to read Aria in the Starless Night (the second episode), Rondo of the Transient Sword (it’s pretty much a 2nd floor side story), and Sound of Water (the next ep) first before the material editions, but only AFTER reading the Aincrad arcs.
as for volume 8, feel free to read A Murder Case (this ep and the previous), and First Day. You can read Caliber after finishing Volume 7 only
as for Caliber SS, it’s pretty much an alternative-ending to Caliber SS, so don’t read it until you’ve read Caliber (which you can’t read until finishing Volume 7 anyway hahaha).
as for the Accel World cross-over… well, maybe after volume 10 is over? heh. at least read it only when you’ve finished started volume 9, since I think it has something to do with the Alicization arc, although I haven’t really read it yet and I’d rather not until I actually read Accel World LNs first)
one thing is for sure though, don’t read There is but one ultimate way yet, since the Alicization arc is far from over (there are several volumes in the pipeline according to the author’s notes, plus vol 10 hasn’t been translated into english yet [at least in baka-tsuki]).

109. > Sorry for being lazy ass, and not checking comments. Any decisions on Amagami SS+ specials?
Shameless bump.

“willing to bet my virginity on it” nice troll, need a v2.. >_>

123. Is it Lisbeth or Lizbet? The books that I’ve been reading over the past week have all said Lizbet (up to and including Sword Art Online Volume 6 – Phantom Bullet, just starting 7+).

124. Actually, Sound of Water, Sound of Hammer (Aincrad 48th Floor August 2024) says Lizbeth, though it appears to be the same person.

126. Well, thus far (including ep 7) they are doing fairly well in skipping spoilers at least.

127. I’ve read vol.1 and just from the title of side storys in vol.2, i figured out this Inner Area Accident isn’t in the book.
So anybody know where it came from?
