I guess I wasn’t clear — I meant the images on the Gameboy screen weren’t subbed. Instead of the screen showing text, it was just overlayed with a weird “reflection”. It’s clear as day if you turn the subs off.

Your pc probably isnt fast enough then. If you are using windows make sure you are using xy-vsfilter.

mmm, seems like around 27:20-27:30 in both 720 and 1080 there’s something wrong: 1080 plays faster after a pause, 720 skips some frames. Commie rip doesn’t have this issue. CPU power is not an issue, and the CRC are fine. Seems to happen with mplayer too. Any ideas? Thanks.

The problem is the subtitle renderer with that sign, there’s nothing we can do because it doesn’t lag on xy-vsfilter on faster pcs and there’s nothing one can do to make it faster because it’s already simple. Submit a bug report to libass and see if they can make it work faster.

Those are the shorts that were in the Theater versions of the movies, before the movies (called Manner Movies because they were about theater etiquette).
i watched all kara no kyoukai movies and i have to say…. this one was kinda shitty, i mean the other ones weren’t that awsome either (paradox spiral was awsome) but this one didn’t even have the awsome fight soundtrack

I do have xy-vsfilter and the cpu doesn’t even spike there. Since it’s not a video issue there’s no problem, I’ll use the cut down script. 😉 Still puzzled, the FSN movie had a heavy script too, but I didn’t have issues witht it (that red “poem”).

You could possibly try raising the Level 1 Cache value in Directvobsub (auto-loading version) -> properties -> More -> Cache LV1. Raising LV1 and LV2 to 512 might help the lag but it’ll also increase memory use.

So why is it “Ryougi Shiki” in the Subs, but “Shiki Ryougi” for Signs and stuff (i.e. the letter in the beginning)?
Because we typeset Western order and use Eastern order for dialogue. The reason being hearing the names switched obviously jars a lot of people. It’s easier to read names in Western order on the other hand.

It’s more way easier to read names in one particular manner than to see written ones and subbed ones in the different ones. For me it’s Japanese manner.

I have the same problem like the others regarding the subs at 27:20~
I’m getting dropped frames starting that particular part.
I’m using mpc-hc + lav filters + madvr(jinc3ar – upscaling, catmull rom – downscaling, error-diffusion 2 dithering) + xy-subfilter.
I don’t think my cpu is the issue but I still try the ff:
mpc-hc + lav filters + evr vanilla + xy-vsfilter. —> still getting dropped frames.
mpc-hc + lav filters + evr vanilla + mpc-hc internal subtitle renderer. —> still getting dropped frames.
Turning off subtitle —> no dropped frames(duh).
You should never get dropped frames with xy-vsfilter, it should just lag. Make sure it’s working (Filters->Directvobsub (auto-loading version)).
The people i’ve spoken to with newer quad core i7s and faster don’t seem to be having issues, and I don’t have any either with a i7-3930k (using madvr + xy-vsfilter + jinc/etc).
I did speak to one of the xy-vsfilter devs and he said he believes it’s to do with the largish clips. Not much I can do though so you’ll have to bare with it if you can’t make it work.

I think now that CPU really is the culprit.
Just tried watching this movie on any corei’s(i3,i5,i7) with decent speed, and playback is smooth.
I mainly use this core2duo with amd 7770 of mine as an HTPC. But it seems in this particular subtitle, it can’t render it smoothly even with the core2duo clocked at 3.6 ghz.
And I know it’s CPU’s fault ’cause the subtitle renderer(xy-vsfilter/subfilter) uses CPU the most and then some GPU… right?

xy-VSFilter is pure cpu. xy-SubFilter uh, is pure cpu but madvr does stuff some stuff on gpu too. So yeah they mainly use cpu, and i guess it doesn’t help that much of xy-vsfilter is still single threaded, albeit optimized. There was quite a performance jump from the c2d to the i series, so I guess that makes the most difference here.

No idea where to go to report an error, but in Mirai Fukuin at 42:18 the Kanji 伽藍の堂 on Mikiya’s business card is translated as The Hollow Shrine, which is the title of the fourth movie but is a pun written with a different kanji like so: 伽藍の洞. A better translation for Touko’s business would be Temple’s Shrine or Hall of Monastery or something like that.

In the translators words (from when I mentioned the different kanji), the difference is minor enough that the translation we used works.

Lol, that’s not minor at all and misses the whole point of the pun. Touko doesn’t consider her building to be hollow at all. The whole point is that Ryougi’s the hollow shrine. I also noticed a few other wierd things like translating 真っ黒 to pure shit for some reason even though it would make sense for Shiki to say his future was bleak or dark. Even Commie just dodges the translation by writing Garan no Dou which isn’t really a bad thing for a proper name. Well, back to commie for me. If only their encode was as good…
It always confuses me when names are written in an other way than they were originally meant to be. (I think it’s weird to translate names, even if it’s just the order.)
Also, as a side note, “tough cookie” was awkward to read. That just seems like something only old ladies sitting in rocking chairs while knitting can say without sounding totally out of place. Still a weird thing to say but what can you expect from old ladies in that particular position?
