Joint with GotWoot Fansubs.
Slight delay brought to you by a delayed MBS broadcast and a severe lack of timers. It’d probably be delayed for another hour if I hadn’t decided to just time this shit myself after TLCing and editing, and before QCing. I hate fansubbing.
Negativity aside, it’s out anyway, so please enjoy!

Also it actually seemed faster this week….. Though I did sleep for many hours

16. Thank you for this. 😀

17. Thanks for the work you’ve doing, Raze, as well as the rest of the staff! I hope med. school (in Japan, States, or EU?) has been alright as I’m sure you’ve been handed a lot to study/ practice. Just getting into med. school is a blessing once all the applications and interviews are done.

18. Finally they only cut out very little from the LN, so little that you won’t notice.
Of course they wouldn’t show those kids in the beginning town stripe down to there underwear.
This is one of the most important part of the story and they’re willing to make two episodes out of it. I’m happy as a clam here! =D

19. Thanks for all the hard work!

20. Thanks for the release!!!!! Will wait for .avi! 🙂

21. Thanks guys. Don’t mind waiting here, better off waiting for UTW than getting a faster of somebody else so keep up the good work.

22. Thanks for release as always. Damn Yui at 11:42 was really cute XD

Jesus, then by all means, do it more often. Maybe it’s just me, but I thought this was released actually earlier than your usual SAO.
Doing the work all by yourself isn’t the best choice though, so I do hope you guys can find the people you need ^^”

24. namednoob on September 16, 2012 at 3:07 am said:

Could some out tell what parts where cut so far within this episode ? Would like to keep track of the these kinda of parts as I am planning to read the LN at a later time.

25. Thank you so much! I’ve been holding myself back for the entire day because of your super-duper quality. 😛

26. @namednoob
They cut an entire sub plot before Asuna/Kirito find Yui.
They go on a fishing side-quest in the area to find a rare fish/monster.
27. namednoob, I can’t remember much, but the inner area fight was bigger.
I’m sure there were a few other things that they cut like some of the scenes being longer, but the story is still the same. Any little differences you’ll notice if you really want to when you read the LNs.

Thanks so much for the episode! Sorry that things weren’t in your favor for getting this out faster… thanks so much for your hard work!
Have a great night!

31. man00ver on September 16, 2012 at 3:47 am said:

@kohiro – you’re kidding, right? They probably cut more out of this episode than any other so far. But in the end, the editing choices were right, I think. For the benefit of namednoob and others…
..some variances from the LN storyline:
-Kirito meets the old fisherman while failing to catch dinner himself
-The fisherman catches a good one, and gets invited to some home-cooking after wishing for soy sauce
-Asuna relates how she started falling in love with Kirito under the tree
-The fisherman tells about the “god” that lives in the lake, which he once hooked but wasn’t strong enough to land
-Kirito and the fisherman team up to catch the “godfish” and the whole village shows up to watch (Asuna attends in disguise so her fame doesn’t attract attention)
-The godfish turns out to be a pretty hairy monster, and Asuna dispatches it, revealing her identity in the process
-Besides her missing player icon, Yui seems to be missing a player menu, but they discover she has a greatly modified version of it that is accessed using her left hand (rather than the normal right hand).
-When they first enter the Town of Beginnings, they meet a de-motivated player who eeks out a living waiting under a tree for a daily fruit drop he can sell to an NPC, and who directs them to seek Yui’s guardians at the church where Sasha and her gang of “lost kids” reside
-One of Sasha’s kids runs in yelling about the Army’s harrassment over taxes, and they find the cornered kids have been forced to strip to their underwear.
Other than those edits (and maybe a few others), the story is pretty much spot-on. Impressively so, I think.
🙂
A big thanks to the groups (and the big individual effort) for bringing this out tonight!
P.S. Shoulder-riding, ghost-spooky Asuna vs Maternal-instinct Asuna = gap moe supreme!

32. Thanks. So… If I wanted to get into fansubbing next year. Timing, typesetting, QCing, encoding or a mixture of all. Where should I start? XD I already know more than your average person about encoding and have enough common sense I hope for QC. But is there an elitist guide out there or any place somone can go these days to learn the ropes and practise?

33. @man00ver
I read the LN few months ago, so I cant remember all the details, but I think that the fishing story comes after Yui’s. The story states that Yui’s story began somewhere around 3 days after Kirito & Asuna moved into their new home. The fishing story is 1 week after they have moved in.
@Vic – it’s possible, since the timelines aren’t well drawn between volume 1 and the side story. But…
I’d lay a big bet there will be no fish story. It’s simply not important enough. Next week will be the special dungeon quest and Yui’s big reveal, and unless I miss my guess we’ll be in the Big Fight the week after that.
@Gui How much is “above the average person”?
You have to be comfortable with IVTC and most of the AviSynth filters.

43. @man00ver
Yes I was disappointed with the lost of the fishing arc but already knew that since the last episode saying this episode would be “Girl of the morning Dew”. I was looking forward to Asuna beating the crap out of the huge fish too but it can still happen after Yui’s arc. All they really took out (in this arc) is the part about the man under the tree, the church and also the part about how Kirito talks about how he tried to climb the pillar once.
44. @nobodycares Maybe not a great deal above the average person. But I at least understand what a filter is, have attempted to dabble in some avisynth and understand fundementals about colour space, 8/10bit, codecs, different types of bitrates and all of that.

45. Thanks! It was sad that they cut down Asunas epic fight, but ohh well cuts needed to be made to fit this side story into 2 episodes.

moved here

55. Thanks so much for UTW. And for one’s who downloaded it. Pls seed

56. I’d always knew they gonna
altered the meeting between Kirito, Asuna and Yui with Sasha and her patronage kids since Episode 3. No sexy time in this episode, just very affectionate cuddling though why they didn’t show their kissing at the prologue of the episode? More DVD/blu-ray bait gimmicky? Anyway, I gonna watch this episode three times; encore tonight and before Episode 12.
Awww yeeeeaaaah! :3

Feels good to wake up on sundays and find SAO waiting for you.

SAO is going to make me hnnng to death before it ends.
Thanks a bunch for the release!

65.
Considering how the timing of the fish story was bound to the floor boss, I’d think those two would be ep 13, ending with the reveal.
The fight and Aincrad-end in ep 14 sounds like the right timing.
That allots 5 episodes/novel for ALO. (maybe with one spare, I can’t remember if it’s supposed to end at 24 or 25.)
66. At least our MC isn’t completely gutless ”’xD
I consider this one a very fulfilling episode ;3

67.
Hairstyle of Asuna, haircolor of Kirito. Anyone else notice this?
68. Thank you for the release. Kudos to Raze for pulling a double (or triple?) shift on this one, we love you for it mate!

Yeah, they did a good job here – meshed the stories into one episode, but it definitely works quite well. And I liked Yui’s voice quite a lot, too. Can’t wait for next week ^.^’

72. man00ver on September 16, 2012 at 10:15 pm said:

@d2 & Cyou –
You’re right, there are plenty of clues that the Morning Dew SS precedes the fish-fight, including Kirito observing that it was November in Japan just before meeting Nishida. Since the anime specifies October 31 when they arrive with Yui at Beginner Town, they still can fit Fishgod in there. And I’d be happy to be wrong (and to have a 14th Aincrad episode as well)!!
73. So they are still cutting a lot of plots :/
If they keep going with this pace i really need to start reading LN vol 5 in the next weeks ^^
anyways, thx for the hard work 🙂

74. You people have no concept of time. The fishing event is the most boring and useless story and will never make it in the next episode.
This episode’s content is roughly 20.5 minutes. There are still 3 major events for the next one that need to happen: Yuriel presents her request, fight in the dungeon, Yui’s explanation. They roughly have less than 7 minutes each. Fight scenes don’t need as much time as explanation scenes do – look at the Murder side story – so it would give some leeway. You can’t squeeze in the giant fish as that story was about the people, not that specific event. It was mostly about giving Kirito and Asuna some alone time and interact with more types of players. Mountain Dew Girl does the same thing (for Kirito/Asuna) and is more entertaining so it effectively replaced Volume 1’s boring fish story. I doubt it would make it in the last episode too. In it two major events must occur: the battles and the long talking/resolution. The fishing has a completely different mood and would compromise the integrity of the last Aincrad episode – not to mention take up half an episode, probably. It might seem like a lot of time for that final day so let’s hope it’s filled with long fight sequences.
75. yggdrasil on September 17, 2012 at 4:04 am said:

The number one thing you don’t expect to happen to a protagonist trapped in a video game – get married and have kids.

76. No one called dibs? Dibs. I called it.

77. @jcs
True. They probably omitted
Chapter 18 and 19 from the SAO arc and insert the real reason why Asuna fell in love with Kirito probably after they meet up with Heathcliff and KoB for the 75th Floor Boss raid (which in Episode 13). That and with their scene alone after the meeting in Chapter 20 would give an emotional impact to the story. With the wham happening after Episode 13, it would seal the deal the love relationship between both main characters post-Aincrad.
@yggdrasil
You got that right :3

“I hate fansubbing.”
But you’re SO good at it! 😛
Seriously, thank you for your hard work, dude.

79. Hi,
thanks guys for the release.
btw, i found something interesting. If you look closely into anime, you’ll find that on conversation “Where shall we go to have fun?” the anime shows photos on the wall…
Photos? How can this be in SAO? The camera is something invented centuries after swords… A screenshot ability using menu?

80. @Olexijl
I’m not completely sure, but I think they have photo crystals.
(Remember Red Nose Reindeer. There they use voice recording.)

81. Ryu Infiniti on September 18, 2012 at 1:40 am said:

Yui was pretty adorable, and even though not much went on the ep was pretty good.
Do you guys think if the anime does well enough they might continue into ALO and the rest?

82. man00ver on September 18, 2012 at 2:27 am said:

@Ryu Infiniti – the source material is good and plentiful. The anime is the hit of the summer, and will continue to draw audience very strongly into the fall (?) ALO arc. GGO is going to be next, almost without a doubt. It’s a good bet we’ll see Kirito and friends for another year or two, at least. Or maybe more, if the author keeps pumping out good material.

83. Ryu Infiniti on September 18, 2012 at 2:41 am said:

Then all that would be left after GGO is UW. AW is already in production, though it’s technically only connected by world. (20 years in the future from SAO, and appearantly Kirito makes an appearance.)

84. Asdfjuma on September 18, 2012 at 7:38 am said:

@Olexijl iirc they didn’t invent dragons until after sword either. *rolls eyes*

YEAHH, Fate/zero BD-BOX comes out tomorrow, expecting first episode by the weekend!

86. littleogre on September 18, 2012 at 5:43 pm said:

@Ryu Infiniti: Besides GGO and UW there is Mother Rosario too, and the author is working in the new series: SAO Progressive.

87. Ryu Infiniti on September 18, 2012 at 6:16 pm said:

Oh I did not know that, thanks for the info.

88. Why isn’t Kirito freaking out about how much Yui looks like Sachi? >.> He freaks the fuck out anytime anything *else* reminds him of her…

89. FuenteFOX on September 18, 2012 at 8:12 pm said:

Dat Asuna in her night-gown = HNNNNNNGGGGGG!
Dat Asuna in her frumpy old lady sweater and skirt the rest of the episode = ……. uh disappoint.

90. @Mayhem:
Because he isn’t having episodes about that every second, and it happened at least a few months after that. He stops himself from working with others (guilds and parties), but in this case Silica is pretty much his target for the escort mission (as it is just one person and he is making sure nothing happens to her).

91. Ryu Infiniti on September 18, 2012 at 9:32 pm said:

@Kazeto I think you have some sort of missunderstanding going on. Cause you are not making much sense. What does Silica have to do with anything?
@Mayhem While true every time something reminded him of Sachi he got depressed. Slowly those sort of episodes faded. Especially after spending more time with Asuna. He has moved one so to speak. It was represented in the Gleam Eyes episode when he came to and the Sachi delusion faded into a crying Asuna, as well as when he told her about his first guild.
On a side note I don’t think Yui looks anything like Sachi. She really does look like a child of Kirito and Asuna.

92. It should be fine if it’s a delayed… stressful work will just lead to unhappy feelings and eventually lead to sad things 🙁
Thanks for ze release.

93. Woo love this show, and Raze did a great job regardless.
Also, what’s the status on Nisemonogatari btw, I mean I know the 1st ep is stalled at 8thsin but do you have the rest of the bluray eps on standby. This wait has been killing me, no one except you guys are doing the blurays.

94. @freast
We have like the first 2 eps typeset and all of it encoded. That’s pretty much it. Unless someone can find me more hours in a day, etc. It’ll take a while.

95. Next Episode Preview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc3RSZ-ewhY
Conclusion to the honeymoon arc. It gonna end with tears…
96. @ar
Hopefully you guys’ll have some more free time once this season is over.

97. @freast
Nah the problem is > work. It can’t be helped.

98. @ar
Clearly UTW should quit their jobs and move into fansubbing.

I know it will take several weeks to finish once you start, but have you guys started work on the S2 Blurays of Fate/Zero, now that they have been released? I realize it’s a bit soon maybe, but I’m just so psyched about them, I had to ask. ^^ Been holding off on S1 so I can watch both seasons in Bluray in one go. Also, is the Bluray for the Negima Movie being worked on, or is that still way back in the backlog? I’ve watched the DVD version, but I want the BD version for archiving.
