I've added a new poll

…and because I suck at this, I accidentally hid the old poll. Raze should be able to fix it though.
The question is simple: we’re considering working on the iDOLM@STER special’s that came with Shiny Festa, but we need your opinion on how to release it.
I ask this because this is the quality you’re looking at for now, and it might be annoying to read and watch in full screen. But hey, some people like it.
So just go on and vote, we’ll tally them up later and figure out what we’re doing. I’ll probably make a decision sometime next week (or earlier).

And if you don’t care, don’t vote.

Is completely depends on if there will be higher quality releases or not, if there are I would say wait, if not, then go for it

  2. How difficult is it to release a raw and script if you do a subbed video? Those are just the parts of the eventual whole, and then it would be covering all bases!

  3. The quality’s bad, but it’s not unwatchable. I vote for the subbed video

I was afraid you forgot about it. I need my dose of Idols <3

I say go ahead and sub it, but don’t bother typesetting or spending too much time filtering the encode trying to make it bearable. You’re going to need a timed script anyway, so you might as well get that over with now.

  6. Not going to vote, I’m kinda mixed personally. I think it would be fine either way. The quality is much better than some old stuff of lower quality which had subs just fine.

  7. i think you should just sub that, subbed or ass style both fine, but if there’s a possibility for a higher resolution release, the .ass is easier to use (HQ raw+old bad quality video)
    as long it’s subbed…..

Is it impossible to make the font scale with resolution?
Do the one which is less hassle, it’s all readable anyways.

…….I don’t get it….Can’t you just use softsubs, and then we could just turn them off if we wanted to watch the video without them? :-/ Why would the quality of the video be worse if subs are included, when they are turned off? Sorry if I’m asking a noob/stupid question, but I don’t understand….

  10. I’m not quite sure what you mean with “vote”, Kusion-kun: here or Yay! on Youtube? ;P
But if you mean here, I can’t really see what’s wrong with subbing them. As said by others, if softsubbed it can easliy be re-used for better video 🙂
Åsso “kram” för att testa dina solida svenskakunskaper 😛

At risk of revealing my ignorance, is it hard / a lot of work to release both?

I’ve got to ask what the problem is. afaik subs scale when you use fullscreen. However, they stay at the same res as the video so it doesn’t look off.
correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the only disadvantage of softsubbing is it requires more power to play back.

If somebody actually has big problem with the quality, well… he could use the scalable build of xy-vsfilter.

  14. I don’t mind about the quality

  15. Your screenshots seem to imply that the subs will be low quality too… Why the heck is that? Most sane players (read Mplayer) can render subtitles independent of actual video resolution, the subtitles look high quality.

  16. I’d say release both the scripts and the subbed videos. Someone is currently working on upscaling some of the Shiny Festa music videos and he’s doing a great job on this (archive.foolz.us/a/thread/74228307/#74229068) Dunno if he plans to work on the OVAs as well.

  17. The “subbed video” screenshot looks like hardsub cancer. Use softsubs, and at least the subs will look ok. Also, provide the .ass in case a better raw than that stamp-sized junk comes out.

  18. is there no better version someone /could/ provide? i mean, i hear it was released as a part of the games but i don’t know if it’s in DVD only or w/e format… also, you guys doing that puchimas 5 minute short next season? (or at least thinking of it?)

@Kitty – The OVAs are actually sort of an extended cutscene at the beginning of the game, so they’re actually on the UMDs themselves. So until and unless they’re released later in a different format, the PSP’s resolution of 480×272 is the best we’re going to get.

LTTP here but I hope you guys do a subbed video, I’ve watched the Groovy Tunes OVA (on my TV no less with my TVs zoom function and all since the PSP component cables only show it at native resolution and it was perfectly fine to watch imo) and while I enjoyed it and understood it more or less, I’d love to see it and the other 2s subbed
So yeah, go for it I say, it’s perfectly fine to watch even when zoomed in/stretched/whatever and it’s unlikely to get better quality versions in the future.
The Groovy Tunes one was fun anyway and I’m sure anyone who sees it will like it 🙂

  21. I’ll put a vote in for nnedi-ing it up to twice the resolution.
Also the raws I’ve seen are an undecimated 29.97fps jerkfest, I trust you’re going to remedy that.

is this still being subbed btw?
