More infodump this week! Lovin’ this series.
I didn’t spend as much time as I would’ve liked on this episode, but I need to get back to cramming for my finals I have confidence in the team.
And don’t even talk about the filesize. Don’t.

Just how I like my file size! Quality+ Thx UTW team

8. *Looks at the file size at the torrent window* Mother of CPUs. 627MB?!! Oh well. At least some of the series I’m currently watching gonna end this month anyway.

9. I love this show’s infodump episodes. I know how strange that sounds considering what infodumps ARE. But they make it work somehow.
WORLDBUILDING

11. Why complain on file size when you’re not supposed to hoard TV rips? Bandwidth doesn’t count as an excuse either.

well… download, download….thanks.. XD

13. Thanks for the, as always, awesome release.

14. Yeah yeah yeah!!! Thank you again!

Thanks for the release. There’s an infodump? Well, that makes my anticipation for this episode that much greater. File size is proportional to the amount of info dumped, right? 😉 Good luck studying.

I came to this site just to comment on the filesize (and see if the SD was available) so i’m gonna comment on the filesize.
Yo filesize so big my torrent client just says “To be continued”
Yo filesize so big i had to steal the entire neighborhood’s wifi to download it
Yo filesize so big droste.zip is jealous

I was actually hoping for a bigger file. Oh well, at least it was a big show! Go go Saki with your giant destiny.
Thanks for the excellent work!

18. I’m just going to be highly amused when the BDs of this ep come out.
Thanks for the ep.

Thanks so much! Have a great night! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR FINALS! CONFIDENCE IN TEAM OR NOT!

No ones complaining yet you faggot! xD

21. Amatsumagatsuchi
“Name calling!? You’re gonna resort to name calling? I mean, what are you? A child?”

22. At least the infodump and animation quality justify the large file.
In the nutshell
Fiend are ones who can control his/her Cantus while committing heinous act of violence towards others and Karma Demon is walking biohazard; little/unable to control the his/her Cantus while distorting/killing his/her surroundings
, am I wrong?

Thanks for your hard work and I hope the UTW team gets an A on the college finals.

The DDL for the HD version doesn’t work, it says free accounts can only download up to 500MB files.

26. CardcaptorRLH85 on December 15, 2012 at 8:24 am said:

*gasp* I think Battleflame might have just hit on the one legitimate filesize complaint! I’ve recently moved and my internet isn’t hooked up yet so I’m using 3G data over Bluetooth to download. However, I still torrent anyway so, that’s not an issue for me. 1 hour 10 minutes to go ^_^

27. anonfag on December 15, 2012 at 8:26 am said:

Nigga pls. Dat filesize better have some justification.

28. Seems like Fiends are a lot more dangerous than Karma Demons based on the infodump from this episode. I actually thought it was the other way around judging from the names and the obscure descriptions we had from episode 4. It’ll be interesting to find out which one Maria will become. The foreshadowing has been great so far but I hope that the girl who looks like Maria is not an indicator of what she’ll become in the future.

29. Big_Boss_90 on December 15, 2012 at 8:54 am said:

Thank you!

30. Last episode ?
Anime News Network says:
Number of episodes = 25 but listed only 12 Episode titles and at the end of this episode it seem there is more ?
So can you tell me how much episodes this anime has ?

31. @Largas
It’s set for 25 episodes. They only tentatively release the first 12 episode titles which being filled along the way.
@Sushi
From the looks of things,
it’s Mamoru will turn into a Fiend and somehow Maria is spared and continue to “encourage” him. Maria will breakdown after witnessing Mamoru being disposed by the queerats/Fazecats. In which become the precursor to her undoing in the future episodes.
Ironically, this episode was air the same day as the school shooting at Connecticut. Condolence for those who lost their love ones.

if you guys do BD this ep will become a realllyyyyyyyyy big file since a normal 250 mb can eazly become 1gb for BD -.-

33. man00ver on December 15, 2012 at 11:42 am said:

@Raze – I could be wrong (since I don’t speak Japanese), but the phrasing seems wrong at 11:48. Should it be, “Using Cantus, Tainted Cats were selectively bred from household cats?”
As it is currently worded, it reads like they used the household cats’ Cantus (as if they had any)!
@AMg – I had the same thought about Mamoru, but it sounds like you know a bit more of the story!

jaysun: You aren’t? O.O I nearly-always archive as I watch (as a series is broadcast), as I’m likely to either not notice when a group releases BDs or, in many cases, whether a group releases BDs or not (and how long it takes) is a lot less reliable than when releasing originally. Also, if all archived worth-archiving series were BD versions, I would run out of disk space a lot sooner. In addition, though this is less of a valid reason, I have slight pangs of concience when contemplating methodically archiving only those things which were originally sold, rather than broadcast for everyone with reception equipment to watch (not that I let that stop me when something does fall into my lap, granted…).

Miscellaneous comments: Can’t tell whether Maria will suffer from either syndrome, just that she’ll (probably) take actions which lead to doom…

Infodumps are far more welcome than teasing information-withholding! *happiness* I unfortunately can’t see how to produce the Show/Hide sections, but hope that others are also looking at comments only after watching.
This episode puts the setting in quite a different light by revealing the most dystopian aspects as having all been implemented in the course of a single person’s lifetime, rather than stretching back much further. I also noticed the modern-style school in the flashback, compared to the wooden (?) different-style school in the ‘present’.
It’s extremely good that people can get their lost memories back upon adulthood (at least, I hope it’s everyone rather than just the committee position people… though that’s still better than no one). Otherwise, lack of knowledge would definitely lead to gradual overall doom through ignorance. Still worried about the treatment of minoshiro-modoki libraries, and about whether / how properly that information is being stored elsewhere.
Notable that the anti-killing inhibitions are counterproductive in the worst possible instance. Possible that they’re still worthwhile in terms of preventing all other deliberate violence, but. Hmm.
The Education Committee is starting to look like the biggest threat (to ideally be reformed), with the setting of a cat on Saki (and Shun for that matter, despite his cooperation). That said, the chronic child-mindwiping results in a state of being unable to trust adults if one notices anything wrong, which is problematic.
One can understand the reasoning, but it’s problematic to lie to something that a poison will cure her when she’s already volunteered for death. With that sort of handling method, if there actually /were/ a cure they wouldn’t be trusted and it would all be taken at once anyway, believed to be poison, and possibly resulting in unnecessary death from an overdose… that said, no such impression in the Akki case, where it was very foolish for the person to submit himself to another’s influence after having carried out such things. (Maybe he imagined the other wouldn’t dare to risk himself through hostility? In any case, though the Hippocratic Oath flinches, respect.)
With both eliminations and mindwiping, it seems plausible that the current state is doing more harm than good in terms of the final toll taken on both adults and children. In the French Revolution, the Reign of Terror with all its backlash executions comes to mind.
Also notable that untattooed bakenezumi weren’t counted as a threat. Hmm.
This fiction is interesting in that, at present, there doesn’t seem to be any particular possible ‘Ending’ that wouldn’t come across as contrived other than the jiryoku-users being wiped out to the point of dying out very soon. (The ‘Suitai Shimashita’ anime slightly comes to mind there.)
All jiryoku being sealed would come across as contrived, and is known to be syndrome-ineffective anyway.
The most plausible ‘ending’ would be Saki growing up, implementing reforms, and leading humanity onwards towards a brighter future.
There’s also the downer-ending of the dystopian way of life continuing or getting worse.
I suppose it could end even earlier, with what remains of humanity being saved from a certain threat, and the audience being free to imagine Saki maybe getting older and implementing reforms in future. Since she’s narrating this from the future, it would be odd if she died in self-sacrifice or otherwise. Pleasant if it turns out she’s been narrating it to children all along, though more plausibly maybe writing a book.
Though it has nothing to do with her sense of justice, eye-rolling at Maria making a joke in such horrible taste, and then overlooking it (and later describing it as a minor thing) even when faced with such a reaction.
…in the interest of avoiding a ‘panic’, information suppression which is in fact counterproductive, people responding more-or-less surprisingly well to the truth in practice… and then the over-enthusiastic culling… these are recent things in those villages, and things which probably need to be undone… for both Akki and Gouma, plausibly plenty of warning if close enough attention is paid, and then better ways of handling it than pretending it never happened… hmmmm.
In any case, very pleased at the greater release of information. *happiness*

There also seems to be some dispute about who was actually making the cat joke. Might be that the tl is wrong and that it wasnt Maria but Mamoru himself instead. Maybe you can fix that in the batch.

36. Great ep! As always thanks for hard work. You have great team Raze, so don’t worry. I have one question. When video plays parts like retrospection in this ep (about Fiend), i get it really laggy. It happens in other videos. Any idea why?

37. Jay-kun on December 15, 2012 at 2:25 pm said:

Thanks! 😀

38. I, for one, am thankful for the larger encode. This is the highest quality episode to date in terms of lack of visual artifacts and the like. Thumbs up.
PS: This show is amazing, and I’m considering buying the book.

judging from this episode their friend will become Feind… ;c since he got depressed gloomy and other bad stuff + he got ” an earful ” from teacher

40. @man00ver
Nah. I didn’t touch yet the original material or the manga adaptation. I’m simply connect the dots based on the information have been given throughout the series and make speculation of what’s to come.
In this case,
Boy A and those teenagers on the beginning of the series are example of Proto-Fiend. Although, the teenagers justified their preemptive attack on humans as an act of vengeance/self-preservation against the government who hunts them. That leaves on Boy A as the earliest example of a Fiend; he was all aware of his PK powers and used them to raped and killed his victims.
43. great file size with great quality. it’s a waste not to talk about it… xD

Forget the filesize, check out the size of those @18m

46. filegator does not allow slow download on files larger than 500mb…

47. Kyricchi on December 16, 2012 at 6:37 am said:

So, about that filesize. I actually noticed the quality that I got was MUCH better. No big blogs of random discoloration blocking my screen. Love you guys. <3

48. @Kyricchi
Nah, it’s just that the broadcast was a bit less terrible for the most part this week, which makes it a lot better to work with in terms of fixing stuff up and making it look more respectable.

49. Man, this series manages to pull off enjoyable infodumps. One of the better series I’ve watched in years.
