11. In the next episode, Suguou gets his ass kicked again.
Let us all rejoice.

12. “Sugou’s Rape-Train” was as amusing and rage inducing as I’d imagined, I especially liked the part when he literally drank her tears, nice touch A-1
The beatdown was also pretty damn good, though I hoped they would show Kirito driving his blade hilt-deep into Sugou’s eye instead of the rather decrepit through-the-face shot we got. Throwing him up and just having him land on the sword worked rather well though, and it showed how much respect Kirito has for Sugou (i.e. none) because he didn’t even deign to exert himself in finishing Sugou off which says alot compared to how much reverence his fight with Heathcliff was given even if Kirito was also MAD AS FUCK there
Hell I think even Red-Eyed XaXa got a more “dignified” beatdown than Sugou and Kirito loathed that guy
13. Agree with best character.
She and the ED are all that’s keeping me watching.

14. Very good episode. The only gripe I have is that they skipped the Jotumheir arc of the LN completely, so you don’t really get a grasp that the “Excalibur” sword plays in everything. I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that they animated the real world fight with Sugou for the next episode, if not the series will lose lots of its rating points IMO. Just one more to go SAO and I’ll dub you into my anime fall of fame^^.

Hm. Much better in the novel. I wish they would have used a different song for the beatdown too.
I do agree with a point mentioned earlier, about how them skipping the Jotumheir section really killed the whole Excalibur thing. That sucked.
As long as the next episode doesn’t suck ass, I’ll be glad to say I watched it.
As usual, thanks for the hard work guys.

by the way, they have confirmed that the same artist who performs the opening theme for this season is signed on for season two. there will be a second season.

28. ewww, is UTW able to sub the BD preview for SAO?
if available, plz contact me or leave a reply, i was hoping that UTW able to do it

29. Just saying, isn’t it called Excaliber in ALO? Since there was a whole part of Excaliber SS in which they were wondering why it wasn’t “Excalibur”

My thoughts: great episode, even if i read the LN, and it is better there.
However: login on Heathcliff ID without any password is quite strange. What kind of security does SAO/ALO have?
Even Kirito itself logins with his password, at least in SAO. Why should such powerful ID like Heathcliff be without?

35. laidbackInu on December 16, 2012 at 8:59 am said:

@Olexijl If ya look back to when kirito first joine ALO there was that weiered bug that spawned him in the wooods and transfered all his stats My guesse would be this was the kayaba AIs doing and it wouldnt be a suprise if the AI gave access to the admin system… its a stretch but its the only thing i can think of

Actually in LN Kirito did include a password but it’s all gibberish. Guess they decided to skip it… oh well this episode had always been one that I find funny. What can you do when you’re fighting one that could be considered a god with infinite power? Pull a DEUS EX MACHINA on his ass and proceed to hack him into gory polygonal pieces apparently.

44. カノト on December 16, 2012 at 12:52 pm said:

@TenRyuGa
the LN didn’t actually give a password per se:
“I looked into Sugou’s surprised eyes, opening my mouth. A set of words echoed in the depths of my mind, I repeated them.
“System Login. ID «Heathcliff». Password…..”
The gravity which was wrapped around my body disappeared as soon as I finished reciting the complex series of alphanumeric characters.
“Wha… What!? What is that ID!?”

well, technically, that’s the translation, so maybe the original nihongo had one…

Thank for the release =)
Best character +1
The way Kirito impales Sugou’s head is a satisfactory finisher to the whole ordeal. I liked it.

48. Overall, a satisfying episode. Also, not read the LN’s but very much looking forward to this ‘real life-Sugou beatdown’ :P.

49. thank for the release 😀

50. Linkmstr: I do not see why ‘to’ is necessary at all. In fact, that would be grammatically incorrect. It’s ‘you caused me pain’ not ‘you caused to me pain’.

51. Thank you guys~~

52. While watching/reading the whole “it’s okay now, imma log out/it’s over, let’s hug” scenes, the only thought I really had was “move your ass damn it, Sugou has logged out too and who knows where he logged in from? While you’re spreading fluff with your daughter / imouto he might be already trying to rape Asuna irl…”

53. Revelations on December 16, 2012 at 10:53 pm said:

@Soukyuu
Sugou did say that any pain absorber level below 3 would affect you in rl, and Kirito turned that down to 0. Now, he had is arm chopped off, his body severed into 2 at the waist and his face stabbed through by a giant greatsword I don’t think he’s in any position to be raping anybody

54. Well, even taking this into account,
Sugou was “healthy” enough to almost kill Kirito when he came to the hospital. If he has enough strength to fight against Kirito, he’d have no problems having his way with Asuna who just woke up after over 2 years.
55. Ken-chan on December 16, 2012 at 11:51 pm said:

loved it ALOT!

56. @Revelations:
It’s not that the pain absorber being set below 3 lets wounds inflicted in the game magically appear on your real body. It merely means that the pain would be strong enough to remain there even after he logs out. But then again, the pain of losing one’s own hand and then being sliced to pieces would make most people lose consciousness, even if it’s just pain (in fact, that’s what happens with people who “die on the spot” when shot – due to the shock from the pain-caused trauma, they lose consciousness a moment after they are shot) and the body is fine.
So he is in condition to rape someone because he could move, but he isn’t in condition to fight because his reactions are slowed down due to constantly feeling pain.
Which is what will allow Kirito to kick his ass again even though Kirito’s body still isn’t in top form and even though Suguou had a knife.
57. Ashandarei on December 17, 2012 at 4:17 am said:

Wait, people think that Oberon/Sugou getting beaten
getting hacked in half, then having his upper torso flung into the air, only to be impaled THROUGH THE EYE on Kirito’s huge-ass sword
is LESS satisfying than the the way it happened in the LN…? Refresh my memory, but wasn’t it just a Link-putting-the-Master-Sword-back-into-the-rock downstroke
through that a-hole’s eye
in the LN?

All in all, great episode…. The frist time I can say in SAO that the animation of the scene in the anime is better than the narration in the novel… Thanks for the great ep, guys!
A bit correction tho, Isn’t the sword supposed to be “ExcalibEr”?

63. So, since Nekomonogatari Black probably won’t get simulcasted, do you guys have any plans of doing it. Just asking cause you were planning on doing Nise before it got announced by CR.

64. @Ashandarei: It probably has to do with how they imagined it happened while reading the LN vs. how it was animated. I’m not satisfied neither with the LN nor the anime. That bastard got away too lightly, but that’s because Kirito is a “good guy”. If it were me…

For a moment there, i thought Yui had Kirito’s face

66. cave_guard on December 17, 2012 at 1:57 pm said:

To be honest, SAO was a LOT better than ALO…the setting of “dying in-game = dying IRL” is much more intense. I could remember when Kuradeel tried to kill Kirito…when he plunges his sword into Kirito’s body, shit was real. Heck, just trying to keep as many ppl alive as possible was hard enough. That whole arc had pressure to it which made it good.
In ALO…doesn’t matter if u die, just respawn…the only limit was time left until Asuna gets raped…and this episode, this “fight” with Sugou was a pretty big let-down to all that build-up…all Kirito had to do was yell a few words and the fight’s over, didn’t even get to show his mad sword skills or anything….
Hope 2nd season be better than ALO…

67. @cave_guard:
It is (or at least it is supposed to be) better, courtesy of the following two names:
XaXa and Johnny Black, “former” members of Laughing Coffin
73. @SHADOW-ZER0:
GGO will be season 2. Not season 3, some people are just retarded enough to believe that 0,5 + 0,5 = 2.
And no, outside of “it will happen” we know nothing about season 2.

74. Revelations on December 18, 2012 at 12:21 am said:

are u guys going to sub dusk maiden of amnesia ep 12 directors cut and the unaired 13th episode?

75. lolipedofin on December 18, 2012 at 4:54 am said:

@cave_guard: The admin chant by Kirito was only to level the playing field with Sugou, he didn’t set any advantages to himself. He simply took Sugou’s GM right, even gave him the best sword the game can offer, and then proceed to slice him by sheer skill….
I agree with you though that Fairy Dance is the weakest arc out of all the main arcs (therefore not including Mother Rosario, which I find worse than Fairy Dance). But it does gave a proper closure to SAO, and established ALO as the main world for the characters.
Trust Kazeto, it’s going to get better with GGO and Alicization, not to mention there’s progressive.

76. Well, the major part why some people consider “Mother’s Rosario” to be weak as well is that, after witnessing Kirito wreck people with sheer skill (the only “beater bonus” he gets in GGO is an avatar of questionable masculinity with no bonus to stats, though it is certain the avatar did help him because “people help girls in MMO games” [the whole thing was actually rather amusing]) and him going against an antagonist who is also doing his things with just skill (no GM privileges or anything of the sort), they see him relegated to the role of supportive character while Asuna helps someone with their goal. Considering that said sheer skill of his was enough to make it viable for him to use lightsabres in a gun-based game and do things like evading nigh-impossible to evade shots by “predicting where the bullet prediction beam will appear”, yeah…
And there’s also this bit:
The player Asuna is helping is someone who defeated Kirito in a straight fight (a player, with nothing special but really high reaction speed), and who Kirito admitted was better than him to the point where she would be the one to get Dual Wielding had she played SAO. The fact that she only defeated Kirito because he wasn’t dual wielding (because his second sword is Excaliber and he swore not to use it lightly) only adds to the flame.
But then again, getting “Mother’s Rosario” means we likely will get “Caliber” as well, which is a great sub-arc (in my opinion at least, but woe is those who don’t like the “Catgirl Legolas”, aka. Shino). And it also means we’ll get to see Klein and Kirito fight off a 50-person army by themselves (while bickering with each other, no less).

77. littleogre on December 18, 2012 at 5:56 pm said:

I disagree. The main reason people consider “Mother Rosario” to be weak is because it is a depressive and overemotional story, with very little besides that. There is no plot, no mystery, no antagonist. Consider that it came just after GGO, which has a very interesting plot with a lot of action and mystery, and that gets even worse.

78. @littleogre:
Various people have various reasons. The one I wrote about is the one I heard people use the most (I might have just met the wrong complainers), but then there are also people like you who have different reasons. And there is nothing wrong with that, in fact it is better that there are various reasons, because that means it’s not just a single element created by the author making it worse, but rather the fandom wanting the story to remain serious – a notion of which the point I can see and even sympathise with, but something that just isn’t possible if the author wanted to keep the story “realistic” without breaking the main characters (then again, both Asuna and Kazuto were broken plenty in the past, so it’s more like “without breaking them again unnecessarily).
Personally I don’t mind the whole thing being “overly emotional” (got through a few really emotional stories, both light novels and visual novels, in addition to various events happening in real life, so I’m already immune; though honestly I didn’t really see Yuuki’s quest as that depressing, more like proud in a way – again, a matter of opinion) nor do I mind one arc not really having an antagonist (it is supposed to be something akin to an interlude between the GGO arc and the Alicization arc, after all, both of which are heavy enough on that; and because it is fan-service of the “fights and stuff” instead of generic erotica you usually see as interludes nowadays, I don’t mind it that much).
If anything, I guess the difference in opinions comes from me being an amateur novel writer and thus knowing the author’s side somewhat better because I faced similar problems with some arcs in my stories. No novel writer can really keep consistent level of seriousness (and thus also consistent “quality”, due to people who want the story to remain serious not liking the less serious elements) in serious stories because there have to be breathers for characters unless the whole plot takes place in just a few days so that the negative changes in characters won’t have time to manifest.
79. littleogre on December 18, 2012 at 7:56 pm said:

Neither of US have enough data to really say why the majority of people disliked Mother Rosario, but my own anecdotal evidence, among my friends, points to the main motives being as I described.
In the absence of data, I can just speculate, but, that said, I see the lack of an antagonist as a grave flaw to most stories, especially adventure oriented stories like this. And I don’t see the predominantly male fanbase of this series as overly joyous about emotional oriented stories.

80. @Escude
Depends on whether we can get enough staff together to do it or not, being right on new years.

81. man00ver on December 19, 2012 at 12:59 am said:

I found Mother’s Rosario to be a pretty good story. It’s a chance for Asuna to shine after being a bit left out in the preceding volumes, by demonstrating the leadership skills that landed her the 2nd rung in Aincrad’s top guild. An animated version would have lots of great fight scenes, and provide some technological foundation for the Alicization premise. I hope to see it, emotional content and all.

83. I thought Mother’s Rosario to be a very important part of the story. After Aincrad we almost forget about Asuna, and went on a character development spree with two other girl characters and Kirito. Mother’s Rosario brings us back to Asuna and really fills in the blanks as it describes not only her virtual life but her real life struggles as well. The whole Yuuki dying thing was weird, but MR served its purpose of developing Asuna.
