Puchimas! Batch

Puchimas! – 1-64 Batch

For those who want episode 00, you can find it here as I don’t really want to work on it. The subs come from /a/ and are accurate enough.
And with this, we say good-bye to PuchiM@S! It’s been a fun 13 weeks, and we’ll cherish every day of it all. Though with such a mysterious ending, who know what’ll happen?!
This originally started as a solo project, where I was doing everything by myself at work. But after that, I had some help, so here’s a shout-out to the team:
fotc (Translation Assistant/Moral Support): Kuroneko = mai❤waifu. Kobato = mai❤imouto. Kaoru = mai❤shinyuu.
Melan (Timer/Guy Who Got Me Raws): It was fun working on this, but almost every day was a little too much at times. I enjoyed the show even though it was so short. Also, Hibiki and Chibiki are the best.
Also a big thanks to my commenting QC crew. Saves me a bunch of time when you guys find all my errors~
It’s been a blast, guys.

1. The manga is a comedy 4koma, it’s a very quick read.
I recommend it to any fan of idolm@ster, it’s both cute and hilarious.

2. Wishing all UTW Staff a Happy New Year! Thanks for the hard work this year especially working on Fate/Zero, Sword Art Online, Accel World and many others. Looking forward to the Fate/Zero S2 BDs and new Animes subbed by you guys in 2013. Btw, will there be a batch for SAO?

3. Two “u”s in Afuu, or at least, that’s how the guys that translate the manga do it.
Having it different sets off my autism so I’m going to post about it and then forget about it until tomorrow.

4. @Ted:
Sorry, I don’t read the translated manga. If that’s how it is, I’ll update it to Afuu for episode two. We used Afu for the iDOLM@STER release.

5. Do you plan on doing the Episode 0 OVA that was released a few weeks ago?
Also, it seems that this’ll be “archive” streamed on Niconico and Animate.tv (not livestream-only like SeiZon S2), so it’ll be easy to directly rip (instead of waiting for a reencoded? himado raw).
Thanks for subbing this!

6. Will you guys be doing the Carnival Phantasm episode from the Type-Moon 10th Anniversary Blu-ray release and maybe some of the extras like FSN Vita openings?

7. I know that carnival phantasm comes out on the 16th of january just if you guys plan to do plan to do them or not.

8. Thanks a bunch! (=^-ω-^=)
Oh and, I wish you guys a happy new year!
/me takes a look at D_S’ post, he’s absolutely right, where is it? 😛 JK, keep up the good work.

9. >no Shiny Festa because shit quality
>Puchim@su everyday despite quality
Thanks anyway! We appreciate your efforts!

10. Holy hell, seeing Kusion surprised me. lol This looks like a very lightweight, fuwafuwa kinda thing for when I need a sweet fix. Will look into the manga nao, too.
Happy new year UTW! Here’s to another year of sexcellent yummehness. *raises glass of Dr. Pepper*

11. In Chinese they called it “泡面番”, which means instant noodles anime because it’s duration is short per episode. Thanks for doing this UTW, I enjoyed the manga so now is time for the anime one~
And Happy New Year to all UTW staffs and friends here, hoping we’ll having another great year of anime-watching~! Yeah~ ! 😀

12. Happy New Year. This could be a good digest show to follow, as each ep is only 2-3 minutes.
BTW, will you guys be covering the Nekomonogatari (Black) special OVA which was aired yesterday?

13. Just same question as some people; will you be doing nekomonogatari black cause many people would be pleased if you guys do subbed it… But it’s all up to you guys I think

14. YAHOO, Puchimas!
Thank you for this (and hopefully it turns out to be as good as the manga).
On a semi-related note: have you ever considered switching from .torrent to Magnet URI?
Not that it bothers me; as long as your releases land on my storage drive, I’m happy.

15. is IM@S so i will watch it. Anyway Happy New Year UTW! Thanks for all the great anime you guys have been translating for us.

16. These clips are so short, MKV is so overkill for this. Just collect them all together and do 1 file. AVI at least for these.

17. Sorry, While I love the 4-koma, and your work. It’s just irritates me seeing the title spelled puchimas instead of puchimasu. The lack of the “U”

18. Hmm I’ll try this out. I’m not too familiar with the franchise though, only watched The recent The iDOLM@STER Series.

19. Thanks for the subs, however I’m a bit confused:
Is there going to be one or two episodes everyday (except Sundays)?
Also, any idea how many episodes long is the series going to be?
Finally, any word on Shiny Festa?

20. @Durandal Puchimas airs every weekday, and on the weekend there is a batch re-air of that week’s episodes.
Jan1-5: Episode 1-4 + batch re-air #1
Jan7-12: Episode 5-9 + batch re-air #2
Jan14-19: Episode 10-14 + batch re-air #3
Jan21-26: Episode 15-19 + batch re-air #4
Jan28-Feb2: Episode 20-24 + batch re-air #5
Feb4-9: Episode 25-29 + batch re-air #6
Feb11-16: Episode 30-34 + batch re-air #7
etc.

21. About sword art online, are you guys doing it or will any group do using your subs that you are aware of ?
I am sorry if that was already asked, but would be nice if u could stick it on the right side on the FAQ, thx.

22. @namednoob, UTW doesn’t want to work on SAO (perfectly logical decision). Wait for other groups using UTW subs, there should be some.

23. @Durandal:
There will be one episode every day, except on Sunday. It seems there will be a live action special every Saturday (or today, rather).
The list can be found: http://puchimas.com/onair/index.html
As for Shiny Festa, the source is still crap. Lower quality than Puchimas!. Until they have a better source (DVD/BD quality) it won’t be done.
@Progeusz:
I didn’t really think about Puchim@s!

24. Thanks for the replies so far.
So, there will be 6 new episodes every week then.
Any idea how many episodes long the series will be?

25. I for one would love to see the specials translated. And if they contain the short episodes, I’d just download the special every week.
Thanks for all your work, regardless of your decision!

26. >You know, they could’ve packed this all up into a 12-episode 22 minute long series. I don’t know why they chose to go with this instead.
Kusion, 5 episodes x 2 minutes per episode = 10 minutes… don’t we wish it were 12 episodes, then it wouldn’t have to be broadcast in this cancerous 360p!

27. It’s easy to underestimate how much of an impact that New Year’s greeting bit in the beginning, the credits at the end, and the recap segments like at the start of Episode 04 can have on the overall percentage of each episode’s unique amount of material. But the point is, you can’t just take a 3-minute Puchimas and multiply it by 8 and think you have one standard episode. And then you have to consider that even if you COULD do this, the math still doesn’t work out to a 12-episode series. 50 episodes x 3 minutes = 150 minutes << 240 minutes = 12 episodes x 20 minutes (because we trimmed off the OP, ED, and any sneak peek segment). So, why did they opt to go with this format? Because in small daily doses the joke doesn't get as old as fast and you can fool people into thinking you have way more content than you actually do.
.
Still doesn't explain why they didn't do a 3-episode OAV disc though. That would've worked.

28. ^ way to make a long-winded explanation when i clearly said the same stuff you said in like, three sentences there, dude.

29. So I was listening to Episode 6 with the video minimized, and I got a massive erection from the questionable audio and content. Just a little FYI.

30. “You know, they could’ve packed this all up into a 12-episode 22 minute long series. I don’t know why they chose to go with this instead.”
.
And I don’t know why you keep bumping the old release post; it makes keeping up with what we’ve already downloaded more difficult.
See? Everybody’s got their phase of peculiarity.

31. Hey Guys. How about this?
When you have enough clips for a 24 minute file, you can append them all together and do it as one AVI.

32. UTW, thank you for your all hard work, but please do give us status on:
1. Dusk Maiden OVA;
2. Chuunibyou SPs;
3. (I guess won’t happen most probably, but) C3 OVA v2;

33. @H_B:
I can’t answer the firs two, considering I don’t work on them, but as for the third, I can say there won’t be a v2.

34. Only just realized that Puchimas appears to be an iM@S 1 parody (as opposed to an iM@S 2 or later parody). Took a friend pointing the signs out to me too. “Oh yeah. Ritsuko’s hair. And the twins’. And Iori’s.” I guess the good news that comes of this is Beautiful Long Hair Azusa should be back instead of Neuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ;_; What Did You Do To Your Hair!? Azusa. But on the other hand, no Chibi Takane. :\

35. Hi guys, I hope you still work on Puchimas! regardless of stupid FUNimation.
I sub this show into another language depending on your release ^_^.
Where can I find Raw episodes and subtitles in case you stopped?
Thank you ~

36. @Kusion, oh, okay then. As long as my folder is named Puchim@su! I’m happy. Thanks for more episodes! I’m glad you decided to ignore funi.

37. @Kusion
720p as an upscale? or what? i thought this was put in shitty 360p… now all of a sudden it’s on TV? seems weird to me.
@Tal
seems someone hasn’t looked in the mirror when talking about being a child.

38. It took you six days to come up with THAT!? You tell comebacks as well as Iori preps live fish for dinner.
Thanks for the new episode as always, Kusion & Co.

39. Don’t want to sound demanding or anything, but, is there a possibility of a 480p version of the episode too [old as hell pc kinda does not like 720p…]

40. Glorious 720p is glorious…!
But I too understand the yearning fer 360p release… We’ve got SD 360p fer days now…
Why not release the 720p fer da batch or something…?
It feels weird to me to suddenly get a 720p after watching 360p ‘s fer days now… But that’s just me…
Thnx as always fer your releases‼ 😉

41. wait, y’all serious about having a SD version for /THIS/?
wow, if you hadn’t noticed, this is in (so far) 360p, and i’m /hella/ surprised Kusion did this in .mkv so forget me asking about a SD release, this IS technically a SD release, it’d be a WASTE of time to actually make a SD, and i bet the feeling’s mutual.

42. also,
@Tal
a) i don’t actually spend countless hours on fansubbers’ blogs, so clearly you must be that kind of person. and
b) Take it to someone who cares.

43. @Kitty
Just because the video is small doesn’t make it an SD release. It’s still 720p and for those of us too poor to afford good computers or to upgrade the ones we already have, it’s frustrating as FUCK to have to miss out on half the anime we want to watch every season because subbers either don’t bother with an SD release or stop doing one. I appreciate UTW and Mazui for (usually) giving us an SD as they are some of the last ones that bother helping us poor folks out.

44. May I ask the translation is done by? Puchimas epi 11, 00:36 seems inaccurate to me, it should be sth along the line “Gosh I was wondering what I should did back there”. It’s nothing, it’s nothinggg but I rarely see a mistake from UTW ;<

45. Heheh, oh compatibility releases…
If your toaster is really so pathetic that it can’t keep up with 720p (which my piece of shit old 1.9GHz dual-core laptop could handle) and are unwilling to drop the $200-$300 it would require to get something, “new”, that really shouldn’t be a fansubbing group’s problem. There’s always the option to re-encode videos into a more suitable format yourself, if you must insist on using your decade-old computer or bizarre hardware player to watch Chinese cartoons.

46. @Kitty, no, this is HD. Go educate yourself what HD really means. Hint: 720p. It makes no difference whether video weighs 60 or 600 MB, it will still lag on older machines.
SD reqests are perfectly understandable, Bourgeoisie has a point though. Even $100 should be enough if you buy used PC.
Also, you seem to care pretty much. My little hypocrite can’t be this shy!

47. @Bourgeoisie
It’s not that I’m unwilling to drop a few hundred so I can play 720p, it’s that I’m unable. Do you now understand what the word “poor” means? I’m barely making enough money right now to keep up with necessary expenses, I don’t have the disposable income to get a new computer or upgrade the one I have. If I did, I wouldn’t be asking for an SD release.

48. @progeusz
obviously, you misunderstood me. What I meant is, 360p is the -equivalent- of having a SD release. 720p and up is OBVIOUSLY 1080p. Common sensical people would know that.
@anonymous
clearly you need a better paying job, which, with this economy, is easier said than done, but dude, no one envies you and wish you good luck in your future.

49. @Kitty
I suppose you completely missed the fact that episode 11 was in 720p, not 360p. They were asking for an SD release of that, and any others that might be released in 720p (and for some reason today’s wasn’t 720… huh).

50. About the 720p episode.
Not sure what they were thinking when they decided to go all out making a higher-resolution episode, then falling back to their usual 360p episode.
Maybe it’s some kind of hidden message to tell us they’re going to release a BD version, where the episodes will be in 720p, though I kinda doubt it, since the format of those episodes don’t seem fit for DVD or Blu-ray (they’re WAY too short for that).
But who knows? Maybe they’ll merge all episodes together, removing half of the EDs and episode-recaps, so they’ll be more fitting for a DVD/BD release.
Well, it doesn’t hurt to dream from time to times…

51. soo…hang on. a raspberri pi is able to play 1080p videos with subtitles without lag. yet your computer can’t handle 720p? you could try running xbmc from a usb stick., it’s able to play 1080p with subs on an old p4 with 512 mb of ram with a geforce 8 series video card or ati hd 2000 series. which most computers dating 7-8 years have.

52. @the Anonymous that replied to Bourgeoisie, maybe there’s a software solution for 720p on your old PC. (I finally got 1080p running on my 6 year old HP thing) Otherwise, you can still re-encode things yourself like Bourgeoisie said. (I use Ripbot264+xyvsfilter, works nice) Or the $30/40 Raspberry Pi Atvaark mentioned. (I have one, it works awesome, but it’s something you’d have to spend time playing with and following instructions to get going well)
All said, UTW meant well by posting episode 11 in 720p. It was the best quality that they had access to I suppose, and it was pretty while it lasted. But subbers are working for free, you can only complain so much.

53. This is probably a really stupid question, with a really obvious answer, and on top of that I’m probably asking it in the wrong place but…
Will you guys be subbing the TYPE-MOON Fes. special of Carnival Phantasm?

54. The best part of Haruka is her alter personality, Harukakka who is so good because she’s completely different from the original~
Just kidding, I like Haruka as well, it’s just that I like other Idols more (Kotori and Ritsuko included). Goes to show how great The iDOLM@STER’s characters are. Thanks for the episode!

55. I’m pretty sure that Harukasan’s name doesn’t need a hyphen since it’s not really a name with an honorific it’s just a name like Miurasan’s name.

56. oh gawd. i don’t even proofread what i type.
@progeusz : replace 1080p with HD, and that’s what i meant to write. 720p and up would be HD, and anything below is SD. YES, i know ep 11 or whichever was in 720p, but judging by the way kusion sounded when releasing, i assumed it might have been upscaled, so i don’t know (@whoever kept highlighting me.)
guys, just try to understand, these fansubbers /are/ doing this for free and using their own time, so with something like a 360p release, it’s understandable to not release in anything but a .mkv file.
on another note, talk about being the opposite of a witch, Haruka-san grows with water like the beanstalk? LOL

57. @wat
As most devices do, even older ones.
According to Wikipedia “NVIDIA has released drivers for hardware H.264 decoding on its GeForce 8 Series, its GeForce 7 Series and some GeForce 6 Series GPUs, see Nvidia PureVideo.”
Besides: So far, every Puchimas-epsiode released by UTW was encoded in 8-bit (I know because I never had to transcode any of them to watch on my Nexus 7), so HW-decoding is not an issue here.
And lastly, there’s always the option to transcode the episode. I mean, it’s only a 2-3 minutes episode. Even with a slow-as-hell PC it shouldn’t waste more than 10 minutes of your life.
Go to the toilet, or go eat your meals while your PC transcodes the thing. It’s not so hard, really.
If you want a one-step solution for transcoding, here’s the batch I’ve written for transcoding videos to my Nexus 7:
@echo off
%~d0
cd %~p0
for %%f in (%*) do echo Processing %%f & echo. & “C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\x264\x264_64.exe” –preset veryfast –tune animation –crf 16 –video-filter resize:width=1280,height=720 -o “%%~nf.temp.mkv” “%%~f” & echo. & “C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\mkvmerge\mkvmerge.exe” -o “%%~nxf” -D “%%~f” -d 0 “%%~nf.temp.mkv” & del “%%~nf.temp.mkv” & echo. & echo. & echo. & echo.
pause
Copy-paste into your favorite text-editor and save as a .bat file (or rename it from .txt to .bat).
To use the batch, simply drag-and-drop your files onto the .bat file.
Modify any of the options as necessary, e.g: –video-filter resize:width=640,height=360
Also: “C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\x264\x264_64.exe” and “C:\Program Files (x86)\MeGUI\tools\mkvmerge\mkvmerge.exe” are paths to the x264.exe and mkvmerge.exe binaries on my PC. You should change those to point towards the correct path on your PC.
You can get x264.exe on the site: x264.nl (if you’ve got a 64-bit CPU, download the 64-bit version because it’s faster)
You can get mkvmerge.exe by googling for MKVToolnix. You’ll have to install the whole package, but mkvmerge.exe should be in the same directory where you installed MKVToolnix.

58. Ah, before I forget:
If you plan on using my batch, make sure the video you want to transcode is not in the same folder as the .bat file, or it’ll attempt to overwrite the original file, which will result in corruption.

59. First part of link is for 17, the second part is for 16 (Browsers work in incredible ways O_O). If you can’t figure that out, just go on nyaa and search for it.

60. I don’t understand. Why do people keep looking at Funi/CR as actual, viable alternatives to fansubs? They’re not. And there’s a multitude of reasons for that but by far the most important is that most of us don’t live under the star-spangled banner.
Funi/CR streaming is NEVER a good reason to drop a show. And so, even though I don’t watch Puchimas, I thank you for not doing it.

61. Hello sir, I’m a mobile user and I use your .ass subtitles to hardsub the episodes. But sometimes, when I’m watching an episode, a duplicated word or symbols like this “{}” pop up in my screen. If possible, could start making an srt release from episode 23 onwards and upload it to the site server? Many thanks

62. @Tom
If you are hardsubbing anyways, you might want replace your vs-filter instead. The one you have is likely faulty.

63. The pun is the lowest form of humor, and therefore, the most attainable, and therefore, the most understandable, and therefore, the greatest.

64. can i have a help from UTW-sub?
i need a help for abit translate of SAO, ofcoz is the preview, if u can help me, PM me
i will be very grateful

65. Holy crap, guys. You are so freaking slow! Fuck it. I’m going to make my own fansub group. With blackjack and hookers!

66. @Yun
If your smartphone’s an Android phone, you could try MX player. It’s the only player I found that fully supports styled subtitles. There’s a lot of room for improvement, but it works well enough.

67. ive been having trouble connecting to your site for the last day im in australia and cant seem to load your page properly without using a proxy ,
when i rang my IP they couldnt load it either they said it seem’s to be an error on your server end its dropping out. just wanted to see if you had info on it
Thanks

68. Hi, well I dont know where to post that message so I’m doin it here;
Well first, I only watched your releases on Sword Art Online and I have to admit that you guys are doing a really good job (be it the translation and/or the video quality). I use to get all of Eclipse fansub and Menclave ( mendoi +conclave) releases but then they just moved on and lots of other good fansubs too. Therefore, I had to start looking for new fansubs which will offer me both a good translation and a good encoding/video s quality, and for a long time I had to stick with fastsubs (man…).
Anyway, I would like to ask UTW if you guys are willing to start working on “Seitokai no Ichizon lv2”.
I have the 1st season from Eclipse but they re clearly aint goin to get more episodes out.
I know that there are lots of other teams who worked on that project but none of them seems to do as good as you so …
Anyway just askin, have a good day.

69. @Unknown
Well I’m the Seizonfag of the group, but I honestly didn’t enjoy Level 2 that much. It was ok, worth a watch but honestly Crunchyroll have done a pretty good job of it so far, and as such since we don’t have much time nowadays I would suggest just to watch theirs. I’ve been happy with it thus far, and since there isn’t many signs you really don’t need a fansub release for it (unless you want karaoke or something.)

70. Will the Puchimas batch contain any corrections (to encoding, to translation, to anything at all) that make it worth downloading if you’ve already got all of the relevant episodes? Or is it just there as a convenience for latecomers?

71. hmm… ep 32,
:36 seconds in (wait, why am i nitpicking on a 2 minute-per-episode series…)
>We finally found a light-up area.
Last I checked, no one says “a light-up area”, so maybe it should be “We finally found a lit-up area.”

72. @Tal:
The batch will contain corrections to translations (episode titles mainly) and a few editing fixes. It will not fix any of the encodes. If you’ve already downloaded 1-32, there’s no reason to re-download the batch unless you want to have any typos or such fixed. It’s mainly for newcomers and perfectionists who like to archive.
@Kitty:
Ah, my bad. Was kind of a rushed day and even when I released it, I’m like “No I think something’s wrong…”
I’ll fix that for the batch, thanks.

73. Thanks for the releases but episode 36 at 0:33, bottom line: “Producer, what on Earth are you brining this time?” You’re missing a “g” in “bringing”.

74. Anyone who is a fan of Evangelion, read this, EVANGELION 3.33 BD WILL BE COMING OUT APRIL 24, 2013.
Resources are animenewsnetwork.com

75. @poke, you should watch it every day while eating breakfast or something. It might get tiring if you try to marathon the whole thing.

76. I was just watching Alien the other day, and I just realized all these puchimases are all facehugging little critters.

77. I didn’t know where to post but I’m gonna post this here since it’s your latest release and I thought that’d make for better chance at an answer. Whenever I edit subs to sync the timing with raws for my Western Digital I often see that fansubs have subs with the exact same text and timing or the same text just a few seconds ahead multiple times. Why do fansubs do this? I’m asking out of curiosity. Thanks in advance.

78. @CuriousNinja
Proly ya talking about typesetting of signs. The text may be the same but the position of the text changes. So if there’s a word in Japanese “いえ” on the screen, and the scene change, in a way the word was first in the upper left but ended up in the upper right of the screen, you typeset “home” it in a way the text same text will be shown various times, changing accordingly with the movement of the screen (your eyes won’t notice it and it will look as if it was continuous) so the translation will match the movement of the original text.

79. Regarding sneak peek at the end of Episode 40:
Fuck yes, saving the best for last + now she’s finally here. 8) This better be good. Normal-size Takane is already the god-captain of this series. Let’s see if Chibi Takane can match up!
80. If the mid-season batch has been delayed this long, why not just wait another couple weeks and do a full series batch?

81. Any chance will take all the files at the end and merge them in to one huge file with a containous track of episodes with chapters?!

82. UTW; many thanks for telling us SSY will be delayed; I would have stayed up at night until very, very late waiting for you guys otherwise.
I’ll patiently wait for your release, good luck!

83. Are you guys going to toss these into a Idolm@ster batch once you’re done with them? Having all of Idolm@ster and Puchimas in one batch would be cool.

84. Suddenly, I realize that lampreys and onaholes look exactly the same.
Thank God I do not own any onaholes.

85. In ep 62, near the end (before the ED), shouldn’t it be 10 (instead of 30) minutes left until the rehearsal?

86. Couple of corrections near the end of ep 62:
Dialogue: 0,0:01:17.79,0:01:19.89,Default,,0,0,0,,Miurasan’s reason for physical contact.
Should this use 流 (ryuu), rather than 理由 (riyuu), i,e. 「みうらさん流 スキンシップ」 = “Miura-san-style skinship”
Dialogue: 0,0:01:27.52,0:01:29.97,Default,,0,0,0,,30 minutes until the rehearsal!
Sounds like it should be 「リハーサルまで、あと 十分!」 = “10 minutes until the rehearsal!”

87. A batch of 33-64, or a batch of 1-64? I’m trying to decide if I should start with the 1-32, or wait if you’re putting out a 1-64.

88. Man, I am sad that it is over. Hopefully there is a season two. There is so much left in the manga. So here is to a second season!
I have to admit that this is the first anime in the last 2 years that I was looking forward to. Most of them, I would wait for the batch to watch. This one, I would devour when it comes out.
Any chance for Blu-ray guys?

89. I have to admit, I thought this would be shit, but I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. It was a good palette cleanser compared to the stuff I normally follow. Thanks for your hard work.

90. I’ve been following this since ep 01 with you guys, and it’s been a blast, indeed. Here’s to a second season and thanks for all your hard work! (as a fellow fansubber, I know how hard it is)
oh, and Takanya FTW

91. Good show. There’s one thing that irked me about the bear in the last episode though.
At 1:42, is that pedobear?

92. Have you guys ever thought of subbing the blu-ray version of Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna? Just wondering
