Yeah the only compliant I had about this was airing on mother’s day. Mainly cause of Natalia’s nod to Kiritsugu okaying to be his mother.

Great episode. My only complaint is that the voice acting done by the young Kiritsugu (Tweens/Thirties) is too old for the age it depicts. Other than that, perfect timing (in a somber way T_T)

Wow, incredible episode. It definitely illustrated how strong Kiritsugu’s convictions are and, while I hated how cowardly it was to force Lancer to kill himself, I can now understand how Kiritsugu can easily disregard commodities like honor to ensure his goals are met.

I finally got around to finishing the light novels a couple weeks ago and I was wondering how they’d manage to stretch this ‘somewhere, sometime’ interlude out to fill two episodes. I was not disappointed ^_^ It was this part that finally allowed me to completely understand Kiritsugu’s motivations.
poor kiritsugu. If I summarize again, his life is so unfortunate, forced to kill (almost) everyone he loved (except shirou and illya).

I think these two episodes were necessary for everyone to absorb the gravity of the circumstances of Kiritsugu, and to let those who weren’t already aware of the kind of baggage that he was carrying learn just how different a background and upbringing he had as a hero/anti-hero. This is a character who literally crossed three despair event horizons in his relative youth – twice in the space of a single day as a kid, though I suppose it’s arguable whether he felt as strongly for his father as a person beyond the symbolism of the killing – and is about to unwittingly (somewhat of a spoiler for those who really have no clue what’s coming up next?) stumble upon a fourth. Because without the fleshing out it’s too easy for people to simply paint him as a wannabe hero with a stick up his ass, like Fifth War Archer.

And I nearly forgot that another character said about Kiritsugu in the 1st episode: he blew up a airplane with 300 passengers on it just because his target was on the plane.

Kiritsugu is had really done with himself. He stuck with the ideal of sacrificing one to save others and this had being inherited to Shiro and Archer EMIYA. Can’t he thinks of other way instead of blowing the plane!!?? I know it won’t happen but I hope Ufotable can make episodes to tell of other’s past(Gilgamesh,Iskandar,Assassin,Lancer…)
@ShradeCorelancer, well, the pasts of the others are in their respective legends; and they even did go to the lengths of making some sequences clearing up that of lancer in-show, right?
speakign of servant’s pasts/gil’s past makes me wonder if theey’ll also animate fate/strange fake sometime aroudn the corner…
also, Heart of Freak as an OVA or soemthign would be really nice.

Ahh man, shouldn’t have been adult Kiritsugu doing the voice for the teenage version. They left a lot out of the speech at the end. The Sound Dramas were spot on with the one they had imo (plus his breakdown was a lot better ;))
Still glad I held off watching 18 so I could watch these together. Felt a bit like watching a Resident Evil movie tho π

Maybe you accidentally pressed some hotkey for disabling subtitles.
Try opening the video with MPC-HC, then right click anywhere on MPC’s window to display a menu. On the menu, select “Filters” and make sure that “DirectVobSub” isn’t hiding subtitles and that “Haali Media Source” or “LAV Splitter” are using them.
This is as far as I can help, unfortunately.
But I do hope it’s going to be enough. Good luck.

After 19 episodes I’ve decided that for me the servant parts (especially the fights) are the weakest parts of Fate/Zero while the episodes dealing with the human characters really carry the series.

I like the fact people actually think someone who had only flown a Cessna before could properly land a commercial jet without a single accident and no risk of the outbreak of Ghouls to spread. Sorry but no, Natalia was prioritizing herself (as she says during her training to Kiri at the begginning: “No matter what happens do what you must to survive…prioritize your life above all else.”). The Ghouls and bees could be taken cared of afterwards, regardless of any extra victims, and The Church would get into action once a spread of Ghouls was known to them either way as it’s their mission to erradicate foul creatures not blessed by god.
^…That was more or less Natalia’s outlook on the complications. Kiritsugu’s outlook however is a little more extreme. Natalia made a quick note of it when she made a jest that if he could kill every “killer” or unjust person in the world he could change it and quickly snapped him out of it by telling him it was a joke. SHe noticed Kiritsugu would really kill others if he thought it would bring justice.

Why he no wait until the plane lands? If he did, she could break the glass and jump out (her power IS the release of all of her mana at once…) THEN blow the plane. The ghouls still die, but Natalia lives. Sigh, even Kiritsugu, the most practical of all Nasu characters, still lacks the mystical sense know as ‘The Common’.
Holy crap, someone actually said the same thing as me earlier. I won’t say I didn’t understand the point though, just that from the standpoint of Shirou-fans like myself, it could’ve been avoid. Humanity/Desire to save does have some uses after all…
From what I understood, Natalia actually thought she would survive right? She never even hinted she could die. Until the missile actually hit the plane, she had no idea what kiritsugu Emiya was upto. Am I right? I can’t believe a writer could write something like this. Probably the saddest story I ever saw. Can anyone recommend me a similar story? Doesn’t have to be anime, could be a novel or whatever.

To everyone saying he could’ve done it some other way–[spoiler]if even one of those bees had gotten out, who knows how many people would’ve died. It takes one bee infecting one ghoul to make that scene from his childhood all over again. The thing about small flying insects is that they’re very hard to control and/or catch once they’re out of a contained area, and while they’re at sea they’d die before they got to anyone else, on land that’s not necessarily true. Is one person’s life worth that risk?
Also, her smile at the end made it clear that even though she’d intended to survive no matter the cost, she kind of approved.[/spoiler]

Once Natalia lands, the airport staff will prepare the landing procedures and the ghouls and bees will go out. The entire airport will be a dead apostle land and just imagine how BIG SCALE that is. And it doesn’t help that bees are small and flying, what if a bee got out of the airport and fly fly away? It’ll affect an entire country! It’s like the start of a zombie apocalypse.[/spoiler]
@fz the author is gen urobuchi and he is famous for writign stuff liek that. try out his other famous anime, puella magi madoka magica, or soem of his visual novels, Saya no Uta or phantom of he inferno.. the anime “requiem of the Phantom” and the phantom OVA are also based on his work and he partly did the screenplay. he also did the screenplay for soem episodes of Blassreiter. he also did the novel-versions of black lagoon, as well a sosme other light novels (Eisen FlΓΌggel, etc.) bu as far a si know nobody translated his light novels.

Guys…Natalia already stated earlier that she had control of the plane in flight, but she hinted that she was not so confident about LANDING. All it would’ve taken is a busted window pane for the bees to get out and start ghoul-ifying everything on the tarmac. While it was a terrible choice for Kiritsugu to make, he DID make the right choice. As he should have when faced with Shirley. It’s terrible, but true.
And dang, sad Mother’s Day episode is sad. =(

I think Natalia already suspected that Kerry will do something like that when he told her that he already made plans. Natalia was shocked for a while but quickly recovered, then started that heart-to-heart talk with Kerry. That is why she wasn’t surprised that the plane went in flames.

Was the bee controller really a dead apostle? He seemed much too easy too kill compared to the other 27 or 28. It was like he doesnt possess any of the regeneration or time curse abilities the others had
