Fall 2010 Plans
Announcing our plans for the Fall 2010 anime season, in succinct bullet-point form.
- Amagami SS continues into fall season, being a 24(+2) episode show.
- First new show is To Aru Majutsu no Index II, and it will be a joint with gg Fansubs. Should we pick up the project, the episodes will most likely be released within 24 hours of airtime, but no faster.
- Second new show is Yosuga no Sora, and it will be a joint with Ryuumaru Fansubs.
There were a few other shows we wanted to do, but ultimately decided against:
- Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai: this show was actually our No. 1 choice for fall season, but it will be subbed by our buddies over at Mazui.
- The World God Only Knows: licensed by Crunchyroll.
- Fortune Arterial: also licensed by Crunchyroll.
- Bakuman: will be subbed by gg.
And… I guess this is the time and place to announce it now. We will be subbing the Unlimited Blade Works movie, and it will be a solo project. We had plans to do it before it was even in the theaters in Japan, and all the logistics for the project have been finalized. Basically, we’re ready for it.

To be honest, I can’t really tell the difference between direct transport stream encodes vs generic TV raws I see. BUT, I can always see the shitty quality of crunchyroll’s subs by the spelling errors, shitty grammar and over localization. Just like Occult Gakuin, the world god only knows is going to be excellent, and it’s a real shame UTW won’t be subbing it.
Frankly, it’d be weird if you guys didn’t sub UBW, considering your name… 😛

I know I’m slowpoking big time here, but how does Crunchyroll licensing an anime stop you guys from being able to sub it?

I have plans to try/watch 11 new shows this coming season (along with continuing with Amagami SS), and it’s comforting to know you guys are planning on picking up two on my list!
Also, I’m hopeful that the Crunchyroll situation won’t stop other fansub groups from doing some of the shows they want (most of the Crunchyroll stuff is garbage compared to what a decent fan group can put out).
Index? Yosuga no Sora? UBW? You guys are awesome and you should feel awesome!

the reason it stops some fansub groups (not sure if it’s the case with UTW) is that the reason for fansubbing is to give a way for people to watch anime. Once an anime is licensed, the general “rule” is to stop subbing/distributing that show, in order to support the company producing it. With crunchyroll it becomes a gray area however, as many die-hard fansub fans refuse to use CR as a source for various reasons (personally it’s a quality issue), and so the amount of revenue actually reaching the creators of a particular show are unknown.

@miasmacloud: nothing is wrong with gg’s translation, but I’m not really a fan of gg’s editing. Who is going to be the editor for Index? UTW or GG?

Kampfer wasn’t too bad at all, people just complain too much. The out there editing suited it because well, it was an out there show. The translation for it was good, the editing just made it funnier.
If there was one thing GG has done that I could say wholeheartedly was bad, that would be Baka Test. But that’s not really their fault (other than leaving Jaka in charge!), that’s just Jaka being the failure Jaka is.
I’ve been speaking english my whole life, and personally I don’t mind liberal editing where it fits, because seriously a lot of jokes and such don’t translate very well. What GG’s editing does is make you laugh, even if the joke is pretty lame. That’s cool by me.
So you guys are doing Index S2 even though it’s licensed by Funimation?
@Anon: I imagine it’s getting leeway because Funimation will simulcast it in crappy 360p, as opposed to Cunchyroll which releases in 720p. Also, Index II is the one of, if not the most, anticipated shows of the fall so that helps as well.

@Soukyuu: Your comment makes no sense. Obviously there’s a REASON why you don’t like it, i.e. there must be something wrong with it. You can’t just not like it because it’s gg, otherwise you’re being a fucktard.
Sure it does. Just because gg doesn’t use honorifics and are going with a more liberal phrasing of what the characters are saying doesn’t mean they’re doing something “wrong”. It’s a matter of preference. I want my honorifics and more literal translations. UTW keeps honorifics and even though they don’t do literal translations, I like their way more than gg’s. Hopefully that clears this up.
