Yeah, we jointed with Mazui 6 episodes in. Big whoop!
No, but really, we saw a lot of positive feedback from the Railgun OVA joint. After a long discussion with Mazui, we decided to do Index together. Should be fun. All episodes now have a Mazui-style edit (fuck you guys, I wanted to use Sparky), so don’t listen to what we’ve been saying for the past 5 episodes.
Oh, and if you’re wondering: yes, episodes 1-5 will be batched up as well.

At any rate, I had a lot of fun working on this episode. And if Raze didn’t change everything that I loved, you’ll enjoy it too!

YEAH, WAIT. FUCK THAT. MISAKA, KUROKO, UIHARU, LAST ORDER, ACCELERATOR, AND SOME OTHER SISTERS ARE IN THIS EPISODE. FUCK YEAH!

———————-

They need to make a spinoff based solely on Last Order, imo.  It would be all like,
nstnstnst techno intro yea yea engrish nst kah nst kah
accelerator walking down the road, some bad dude shows up
techno fight music bootsandcatsandbootsandcats
Last order shows u…HNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG for 19 minutes.

^We agree.

That’s because anime fans are largely massive faggots.
Sparky is a fucking perfect English equivalent of the way Touma uses “biribiri” as a joking childish nicname for Misaka.
It relays the childish nature AND retains the electrical reference.
    Fuckin weeaboos.

If people really want “Sparky” that badly, just wait for them to put the script up. You can edit .ass files in a simple text editor, and all you have to do is replace “Biri-biri” with “Sparky”. Most text editors can do that automatically, so it will take maybe a minute tops to fix. I know VLC will let you open a .ass file to use instead of the subtitles that come with the video, and I would assume other good video players will as well.

  23. people get butt hurt over the little things

  24. @moefag
That series will sell in the millions, MILLIONS!

  25. sparky, shocker, biribiri… I don’t give a damn. Just use ur imagination and change the word u don’t like into something u do like. Its not hard.
on another note, can we have some animated text for the karaoke please? Both U guys (utw and mazui) tend to keep the font plane and basic with no fun element added to it.
no wait, I take it back, UTW animated the karaoke for angel beats… Whats up? too much work for index? Its just nice for someone like me to follow along with the song since I’m still learning Japanese.

  26. o right, one more thing, Use megaupload instead 😉 I prefer to dl at 1.5mb/s as a free member then at 400kb or below with fileserve, etc.

Eh well, it doesn’t bother me all that much that it won’t be in the subs (ok maybe it does), they better frickin use that as the translation in the dub. /irrelevant to fansubs

  32. O snap, just watched this episode. Season 2 is like 10x more epic then the first xD

  33. YEAH!!! NO MORE SPARKY!!!! Hurray to Biribiri!!

  34. Nice. You should’ve teamed up with Mazui right away rather than with those troll-subbers gg.
Also, good to see that you aren’t using that stupid dog’s name (Sparky) for Mikoto now.

  36. @ninja Quote “on another note, can we have some animated text for the karaoke please? Both U guys (utw and mazui) tend to keep the font plane and basic with no fun element added to it.”
Karaoke is kinda heavy on not-so-good PC’s so not having those flashy effects really helps for some of us (actually, a lot of us, I think)
Also, on the joint and biribiri: Nice call. Mazui is god tier, now releases will be even faster and betterer rite? :3

  41. 11:50 – “I’m fairy certain…” made me read the sentence in an asian accent lol

  42. @ Soul true, it can be heavy on some pc’s but u can also disable such effects. If you have vob subs, there is an option to disable animated txt. There is probably a way to do it on mpc too.

  43. 3 versions of Biribiri… could be more

  44. I’ve never seen a more obvious win than this joint. Awesome.
Thank you for the episode, of course, and for making us feel as we belong to a community of really good people.

I like biribiri, personally, but I think that’s because I watched the whole first season of Index and Railgun with her being referred to as biribiri by Touma. It really doesn’t matter to me, to be honest, so release the mkv with two sub scripts, then? UTW style and Mazui style scripts? Shouldn’t be too bad. The only problem I see potentially popping up is who is the default subtitle O.o

  46. (°_°)
    Gimme the batch NAO!
Nah, joking. Thanks for the episode and nice to hear that UTW and Mazui will do this together.

  47. Samdidliambo on November 13, 2010 at 6:30 am said:

Obviously, opinion is split as to Misaka’s Nickname. Regarding this, I have a simple solution in mind: Create a poll, advertised and linked to on the front page of both UTW and Mazui’s sites. Leave it up for about a week so everyone gets a chance to vote.
    Q. In the joint UTW/Mazui Index II project, what should Misaka Mikoto’s nickname be?
    a) Biribiri
    b) Sparky
    c) Shocker
    d) Pikachu /* shudder */
    e) Other (please specify)
Obviously, the final choice is up to the groups, but this way it can be clear how people want it translated.

  48. Samdidliambo on November 13, 2010 at 6:34 am said:

I can logically see how sparky conveys more of the nuances of the nickname to a non-Japanese viewer, but somehow I still prefer the original Biribiri. For a dub, perhaps Sparky would be the better choice, but in a fansubbed anime, perhaps it’s best to stick to the original names, and by extension nicknames, so that the subtitles match the audio.

  54. There’s quite a few errors in this episode – which is strange, since usually both UTW and Mazui are top-notch.
Oh well, hope you get it sorted out and give your QC more candy – sugar keeps awake. 😀

    >Oh, awesome! I guess I now have a reason to start watching this. Looking forward to seeing you two work together!
Something’s wrong with the anime community when what they watch is based on sub group and not, I don’t know, the show.

  59. Sparky IMHO is OK.
Biribiri is like the sfx of the sparks. It’s like calling Misaka “bzzt bzzt” lol.

  61. black_lightning on November 13, 2010 at 7:34 pm said:

it was never the biribiri sparky thing which made me go to Ayako it was the “how unlucky”… Does this merger to Mazui result in “such misfortune” being used? or will it stay “how unlucky”?
Unlucky to me tends to trivializes it. EX: You are unlucky if you lose a game, you are misfortunate if you lose all of them. I consider misfortune to be more meaningful as its his way of life rather than a single event.

  62. Definition Unlucky – http://www.thefreedictionary.com/unlucky
    definition Misfortune – http://www.thefreedictionary.com/misfortune
Whats the difference again? According to the dictionary, it sounds the same. But there are times when it makes sense to use either or.
I don’t care which you use, but using how unlucky in my opinion (IMO) when toma steps on his credit card and says “such xxxxx or how xxxxxx” (around first episode, 6:13 in video) makes no sense. Such misfortune sounds better but I highly doubt anyone would say that.
    My conclusion, use both, duh?

  63. nah, I would rather use something like “life sucks.”

  64. Well this is great. Probably not the first you should have done this from the start comment, but whatever.

  65. >Something’s wrong with the anime community when what they watch is based on sub group and not, I don’t know, the show.
I actually wanted to watch Index 2 for a while now, but never got around it due to lazyness. But all of the episodes that have aired so far being released in a batch makes things easier.

  68. >moral: don’t complain about free stuff
There’s a limit to complaining about free stuff, but it isn’t “Don’t do it.” Sometimes things need to be said.

  69. Cool that you’re working together, but it’s sad to see the loss of Sparky. Definately the best translation there could be.

Thanks for the new episode and that is a joint I really like. 🙂
Two typos that I spotted in one sentence:
    18m28s:
In order to put a stop THIS (should be “TO”?) what Musujime calls your “nightmare,” (“,” should be after the “)
And who knows if UTW was just joking when they said that they intended to use “shocker” instead of “biribiri”. Well, we’ll never know.
first one, yes. second error, no. it’s american-style quoting, not british. the only difference is that sometimes ? and ! are outside of the quotation marks.

  72. jackman on November 14, 2010 at 8:21 pm said:

Seriously? Didn’t know that there were different quoting styles for american and british english.
    Well, I learned something new.

  73. Thank god Mazui won out. Biribiri >> lolshittynickname any day.

  74. Dauntae on November 15, 2010 at 2:50 am said:

By the way, just to clarify, it’s not that they changed it per say, it’s more of they reverted back to the old Kuroko’s teleport sound effect from what they used back in Season 1. They changed the sound of it in Season 2. As for the reason? Who knows. I guess considering it’s a side story and these two seasons are not that they thought they should emphasize the seriousness– I don’t know! But yeah, it’s always been high-pitched sound, originally.

  75. Kajitani-Eizan on November 15, 2010 at 6:14 am said:

are you guys 4 srs? it’s not really a great idea to leave it as biribiri in the first place, but it’s *outrageously stupid* to go from doing the smart thing and translating it back to non-translating it.

  76. I just saw Amagami SS BD both eps yesterday… And today, I downloaded all eps out so far from you guys. SO PRO!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

  77. You are just being persistent about that nickname.
    The majority voice wins!
    😀

  78. american-style quoting
    wat
Not that tiny errors are any problem. On the fly re-editing! Thank you brain.

  79. you should totally mux two copies of the script the first time they say biribiri. One with sparky and one with pikachu

  80. i was hoping for like a 6EP last order spin on a year ago. T.T but nothing so far. soooo saaaadd. i prefer sparky. i google biribiri way back when i first stared watching season one and it sed that biribiri was a ram or a sheep or some thing. or a angry person prone to violets. if you can i think sparky is a much better nick name. something i wold call her if i knew her in person. who calls there friend “angry person prone to violets” when there that cute, even if thay are prone to violets.

  81. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Touma stop calling Misaka biribiri after he lost his memories? Which would mean this whole argument over what to translate biribiri as is completely useless, since he won’t be calling her that at any stage during Index II.

  82. I thought this as well and wound up correcting myself over on Mazui’s site. He did actually call her Biribiri in the intro’s of 11 & 12 and then later on in episode’s 15 and 18 (I stopped checking there).
