I like how they wrote “studio monitor” or whatever across the top. It made me feel like I was doing something important while listening to music… Shut up, I was 10… ish.
I still love my Koss PortaPro25. Best headphones ever (for their price range) and the lifetime warranty just adds to it (only had to pay for postage). That said, I would still love to have the chance to own an AKG K1000 (google it up, they’re AMPLIFIER-phones).

that IS NOT MDR-V6, supposedly chihaya use MDR-CD900ST, pretty famous in Japan (and audiophile world) as one of the best monitoring headphone, sadly you can only buy that in japan ๐
and despite having the same form and color, you shouldn’t compare those two in term of sound quality… the closest one with CD900ST is its twin, MDR-7506

Sony MDR-7509HD, $250 and they produce more sounds then the human ear can hear. That’s right Haters, You’re dog could use these headphones and jam out to frequency’s so high you’d never hear it.

I thought the MDR-7506’s were closer to the MDR-V6, just with a gold plug and “studio monitor” instead? Btw, I can’t speak for the CD900ST’s, but the V6/7506 are known for their relatively flat response. Basically, you hear a lot of detail in the music, but it doesn’t necessarily sound as pleasing for general listening. If you don’t mind looking a little retro, go for a Grado, excellent value for money! ๐
never try V6 so i dunno but 7506 is more “fun” compared to CD900ST, CD900ST is known for its flat response, best in the world if i might add.. and yes, more details could tire out your ears easily
Grado is great and it’s good for japanese music too (or any music in general) but AKG is just horrible for japanese music, it’ll pierce your ears especially with high-pitch voice they tend to use on character songs and your ears will bleed before you even know it

Now using 20 bucks Philips round-the-neck headset. I don’t really care anyway, can’t hear much anymore since I came back from national service …
I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 595s. They give a much better sound quality because they allow air into the speaker cone from the outside… however this makes them not noise canceling to the outside in anyway at all, so people are gonna hear what your listening to if they are nearby.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50 sounds much better and can be had for a cheaper. Senns are awesome too, but I don’t know their models around that price.

Being a true audiophile, I want to facepalm every time I hear otakus buying headphones just because some anime chick wears them. And even when the headphones are bought, how would you drive them? You need a capable amp for those high impedance cans. What do I use? Sennheiser HD-650s with a KICAS solid state amp. And no anime chick ever wore 650s. Stick to what you know best and don’t pretend to be something you’re not. lol

I’ve had a pair of MDR-V6s for about 7 years now. I’ve had them so long I trashed the stupid fake-plastic-leather earpieces and had to replace them.

AKG 701 is a piece of shit compared to the MDR-V6s or MDR-CD900. The range is higher and the bass isn’t muffled to death.
