Here’s some more Carnival Phantasm! We have a beach volleyball episode featuring the Melty Blood cast, abound with god-tier jokes and all-round good stuff. The “Afterschool! Alleyway Alliance!” sections, which I particularly liked, makes its debut in this episode.
Nothing much else to say other than enjoy the release, I guess. The next two episodes will probably take a little while longer as I will be rather busy until the weekend.

1. Any plans to upload the script file for those of us who downloaded the raws the moment they came out and don’t like the idea of downloading the series in 1080p twice?

2. Thanks for the release!
Quick question, to what games do they make references in this episode? Just FS/N, Tsukihime and that succubus girl? Havent really played any other Type-moon games but thinking about if i should.

3. @Draringi
Nope. Simply because they won’t work with your raws. All the signs will break. If you must have em, suggest you download the release and demux the script and fonts.

4. Outstanding, and this episode was my favorite when I first was the raw, no wonder because I’m such a meltyfag.

5. @Bob64: ok, thanks for the heads up. Was planning on doing that if no scripts were available anyway, just checking to see if I could slack off…

Most of that was from Tsukihime and Melty Blood which is almost nearly sort of a sequel to Tsukihime. It’s a story based fighter with a decent script and some absolutely hilarious moments. Well worth playing if you can find a copy.

8. Episode amused me.
Out of curiosity, how come you guys are spelling Len/Ren as ‘Ren’? Type-Moon actually spelled it out as ‘Len’ in Melty Blood, so I assumed that was the official way to spell it.

9. I liked the 1st episode best.
Was the imouto getting a red hair while daydreaming doing naughty things a reference to Kimi ga NOzumi Eien?

10. @Nisen: You obviously never played Tsukihime. Red-haired Akiha (I remember it being translated as Crimsom Red Vermillion form somewhere) is Akiha’s non-human form. In case you didn’t know, the Tohno’s are half demon.

11. @Leon
I just have to say “Meh” for you. I never played Tsukihime indeed. I watched the anime you hate so much.

12. @Nisen: I’ve never actually watched the anime. I only know it changed key details (like Akiha’s backstory it seems) which angered fans. Either way, I didn’t meant to offend.
I actually noticed Tohno Shiki’s chest scar wasn’t as noticeable in the OVA as it was in the actual Take-Moon manga (at least you could notice it more in the original manga chapter of this episode).

13. the back..something alliance ( i forgot) full of cat, forgotten characters, and afterschool teatime k-on play of words.. so nice ^_^

14. @Leon
Ok.
BTW, Type-Moon universe is quite big and there are various characters to like (it seems I lot of machos are wetting their pants for Arcueid here, lol)! I like a certain tsundere in special heheheheh, and I can’t get enough of that opening specially the scene in which caster is ‘normal’, then she puts the hood and we see that evil aura instantly~~

15. I’m really glad that I played/watched/read all available English translated Typemoon works before this anime is released. All jokes makes sense to me.

16. @Boku no Schooldays na Kanojo
According to the opening credits, the titles this includes are Melty Blood; Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Hollow Ataraxia
I only caught the English titles and noticed another one on top of Melty Blood (if it was a title…) but I couldn’t read it due to being Japanese-illiterate.

17. @Eru: Actually, if you look even better there’s TWO titles on top of Melty Blood. The one on the left says Tsukihime and the one on the right says Kagetsu Tohya (the fan disc “sequel” to Tsukihime).

18. I’ll correct myself but the titles are actually to the top of Fate/Stay Night, not Melty Blood. At least as far as I can see.
@Nisen: I myself am not a fan of Arcueid, not the least due to how bland her route was and just how non-vampire she actually is in all aspects. My favorites Tsukihime characters IMO, from the lead cast at least, have to be Akiha and Hisui.
And it’s funny that someone was getting all serious because of the fact thi series treats characters like Shinji in a light-hearted manner yet no one has commented anything this time even though Tsukihime’s characters ALL have dark storylines. Then again, any good Tsukihime fan will probably have played Kagetsu Tohya already.

19. Addendum
@Leon: Those were the ones I couldn’t recognise (Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya) As mentioned, I only caught the English ones :/ It didn’t really occur to me at the time to do a little detective work and match the characters.

20. AKIHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
That’s all I have to say.

21. @sporked: So Type-Moon just happens to mistranslate “Ren” as “Len” in every single release of Melty Blood? You would think if it was a mistake, they would have fixed it by now.

22. If every single official romanization lists her as “Len”, how do we know that it’s a mistransliteration, anyway? Especially considering that it’s most possibly not meant to be a Japanese/Chinese name.

23. A friend and I noticed that assassin is a cutout in the OP (when everyone is dancing) since he’s stuck guarding the temple (notice all the baggage piling up, lol). It also explains why caster had a cardboard cut out of him in episode one, haha.

24. Romanizing a katakana name with R or L depends on the name’s origin, which is often hard to guess at, and is often mostly a style decision. It is NOT a “translation” at *all*.
Also, how the japanese people transliterate names to the roman alphabet is not an argument. They quite often make no sense whatsoever, because, you know, *IT’S NOT THEIR ALPHABET*, so they *HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO USE IT*. If they create the name ??????? and transliterate it officially as “Victolia”, that doesn’t suddenly change the name of an English character who’s obviously named Victoria.

25. @ddt Also, if you look at Hisui in the op while everyone is waving their arms in the air she is instead doing her hypnotism circle.

26. Oh, you mean like how Victorique suddenly becomes Victorica every single time Kujo yells it? xD Seriously, I’ve never seen Type-Moon actually use a romanized version of Ren/Len. They always write it in Katakana. So in the end, it’s up to the translator to decide whether to use Ren or Len. Of course, if you can show official screenshots where they actually write Len, it might make your argument more solid…and by that I certainly don’t mean fan translations like mirror-moon’s.

27. @leon-guy: IDK how i can take a screen shot of my TV. I have MBAA on my PS2, which is only in japanese, and its romanized as Len. Its romanized in all melty blood games.

28. @leon-guy: actually, better idea, go on youtube, type in melty blood actress again len, and look at how its spelt.

29. When the Third Impact comes, I hope we can all take the EMELGENCY exits.
Really, you’re discussing how the japanese romanize katakana names when we all know the funniest engrish comes from them doing exactly the same kind of thing, but with english words instead of names.

30. Speaking of which, I hope we get the “FIRST CHILDREN”, “SECOND CHILDREN”, “THIRD CHILDREN”, and all the other “CHILDRENS” Anno can come up with, to help us.

31. Goddammit…totally not related to this post, but I Mahoyo needs to come OUT already…then I have to wait on the TL groups to handle it….*sigh* My life…it needs Japanese.

32. @ Hurr.
True.
Also, I love the Phantasmoon parts when Len/Ren brings out random food (at least I think it’s food). XD

33. Is it wrong of me to say that I’d honestly like to see this turned into a full-fledged series? XD
I love the opening sequence so much especially seeing Rin in it. It’s a very cute and catchy opening sequence.
Thank you for subbing this UTW.

34. @Blargh:
What you stated did not invalidate Blargan’s statement. Simply because -some-, or arguably even -most-, Japanese romanizations are incorrect does not automatically imply that -all- Japanese attempts at romanization are incorrect. The name Len have been used consistently to romanize ?? over all incarnations of Melty Blood that I am aware of. I don’t see why a logical fallacy should somehow invalidate that.
Unless there are new evidence to point to the contrary, Len remains a valid name for her. And since the conclusion does not really matter, as proclaimed by Hurr, then I don’t see why I can’t just call her Len.
Though a Ren is fine, too.

35. >> Though a Ren is fine, too.
Ergo, let’s stop arguing and enjoy each other’s company over this superb whine and succulent cheese…
Oh wait, that’s just here, locally, outside of the Internet.
My bad.
Then, let’s just agree to disagree in some very irrelevant things and leave it at that, yes?

36. @wman
Thanks for the info, much appreciation!
Sadly, gotta wait essentially a month before I can hear the full version.

37. Getting to the Ren/Len debate, it was already covered in an omake in the Kagetsu Tohya translation
The official name is
”レン”
38. @ Ren/Len debacle:
My point is that a reasonable part of the romanizations made by the japanese is wrong, therefore one shouldn’t take their romanizations as an ultimate guide to achieving correction. I do not intend by any means to insinuate they are all incorrect.
That said, you all will notice I never positioned myself regarding which side I favor. That’s because I don’t give a fuck; either is fine for me. I accept both as equally valid. I just get pissed off at such a meaningless debate.
(Actually, I’ll allow myself to fan the fires and say my personal choice: I favor R over L in this and many other cases. That’s said, that’s my *personal* romanization choice; it doesn’t affect your personal choice, and it is by no means more “correct” than the opposite one.)
That said… An episode 3 is fine too.

39. @ Blargh
When the romanization is always consistent, common and doesn’t conflict with any pre-existing knowledge, however, I tend to prefer it. I find it rather funny that some people accept outlandish names like “Arcueid” and “Riesbyfe” so readily but not a simple “Len”.

40. Am I the only one who missed Hanei since she was in this scene in the original manga? Guess it is just me since I find her character to be adorable even though I find most airheads to be annoying.
