This episode, we finally discover the official spellings for a good number of ALO towns. Of particular note so far is the spelling for the Sylph town of Swilvane (we had been using “Sylvian”). We will of course update the previous episodes accordingly for the batch.
SAO fans should find this to be a pretty decent episode. I did, at any rate.

searching for swilvane only gives 4 hits in google, all of which have something to do with SAO
doing some research though, it’s probably related to silvanus,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvanus_(mythology)
which makes sense.
recursive translation of katakana is always awful hahaha. (or they probably intentionally kludged it up as usual though)
thanks for EP as usual

I think it’s just the animators sucking at putting the right name. You should stick to the names used in the Japanese novels…

10. Thanks for the new episode!

11. @Man In Black: That’s just it though, the names we’re familiar with are from the BT translations of the novels which so far have differed on practically every chance they’ve had with non Japanese names. Unless someone wants to go get the original novels and attempt to tranlate the names, the anime right now is the most official spelling that we have.

26. Considering that the menus have shown to be inconsistent (Leefa, Leafa) and sometimes nonsensical (I recall seeing “Yrd” in one of the menus in this episode, supposedly regarding Yuld), I am not sure that going by the anime is the best of ideas.
The episode was good. It was fun and well-paced. Freaking Nice Guy Kirito is hilarious here. Not sure it was a good idea to show the Cait Sith this early.

38. Hey, i really need some curious names. The capital of Cait Sith Zone? Aarun = Alne?
I am just curious as i am muxing for myself now.

39. @olexijl: Alne is indeed Aarun. The capital of the Cait Sith zone is not on the signpost, which would be in the direction in between Swilvane and Alne. The Salamander capital is Gattan.

41. Same question as Erik before. Will you do the Sword Art Offline released in the blu-ray? The first one is so much fun.

42. Thanks! 😀

43. olexijl on November 11, 2012 at 1:03 pm said:

@kiriha: Actually i think you are wrong.
According to this image, see ep.16 (from Yggdrasil): http://i.imgur.com/qcBXn.jpg Swilvaine is on south-west, Alne is in the center and Cait Sith Zone is in north-west, The Salamander Zone with capital Gattan is in the south.
The Spriggan Zone has no capital? If it has, please say me what town?
Now the Sign is wrong.
According to this image: http://i.imgur.com/yOYpn.jpg is Swilvaine and Gattan location correctly. However Alne is wrongly set to the west (where should be nothing, the correct location should be set to north-west, see Fensalir), the Cait-Sith Zone is not on the sign? Are you sure?

44. olexijl on November 11, 2012 at 1:09 pm said:

fix for Alne’s geolocation: i meant the correct location is north-east. see Fensalir on the sign. And Cait-Sith ge4olocation should be where the sign tells you Sekk Bekk…

45. It’s a decent episode indeed. Looking forward to the next episode. Kirito going badass. ;x

@neorok: Why don’t use K-Lite (without MPC-HC installed, MPC-HC installed separately from official…)
I am not a big friend of PotPlayer. You can install MPC-HC and install K-Lite just after (no uninstall of MPC-HC).
As for how to configure MPC-HC for this see http://www.gotwoot-subs.net/?p=3537

47. LeviathanX on November 11, 2012 at 2:27 pm said:

Somehow… his (Kirito) development is like a Deus Ex machina…. he shall reach the top of the world tree within 6 or 7days while the “regular players” haven’t been able to do so for more than a year…
Sure, he got some bits from his SAO char, but well… I’m still curious how this all is tried to be put in “logical” affairs…

48. As usual, spelling of names in romaji is totally at random XD
Anyway, thanks for more Alfheim. It’s much more enjoyable than Aincrad.

49. @LeviathanX:
Well, first of all he has stats that took two years to grind while the longest players could play ALO for was one year. Sure, he’s a cheater that way, but stat-wise he is broken when it comes to game balance. And there is also the fact that he’s the first one “strong enough” character who thought about rallying players of more than one race.
Of course, it does seem a little dubious that nobody would complain about being able to get to Yggdrassil itself, but let’s face it, that’s why the game’s system that relies on PvP is a trap – Salamanders were desperate enough to think about trying to get in by means of pure force – and Kirito is able to see through it because of his experience with SAO (where PKing meant being a real murderer) whereas most players didn’t stop to think about it or considered it impractical and stopped at that.

50. Sure is plot in here.
Kirito could’ve ran at sanic speeds the whole journey, but didn’t. Woo-hoo.
51. @Anon:
Well, yeah, he could’ve done that. But he’s trying not to use his skills unless it’s necessary (they didn’t really need to run that quickly before they learned about the coup since they thought nothing would happen) because he doesn’t want the GM to notice his cheat stats.
He should’ve used that running speed, but even if the reason is stupid, it makes sense that he would not do that for said reason.

52. @Kazeto:
But then again, the rest of the show is mindless enjoyment with no plot, so I shouldn’t be complaining.

53. Faishal26 on November 11, 2012 at 3:32 pm said:

I think U guys (UTWoots) should use “Leefa” instead of “Leafa”, because it’s shown in the health bar..

54. olexijl on November 11, 2012 at 3:37 pm said:

The official name of Lyfa is Leefa, not Leafa. You can tell it from 8:50 sign..

55. @Faishal26:
Actually, both “Leafa” and “Leefa” were used in the anime, so they just went with what sounded more natural. “Leefa” is likely an abomination resulting from Japanese animators knowing just enough English to be able to tell it’s not Japanese.
@olexjil:
And in the same vein, “Lyfa” is not an official spelling either. It’s what people who translated the novels went with, and while I can see their point and I can see why would some of us want it to be translated that way, it doesn’t mean it has to translated that way regardless of everything.

56. Asdfjuma on November 12, 2012 at 2:43 am said:

. . .
Haven’t you guys realise Japanese animators can’t spell properly using English characters? I wouldn’t be so quick just to use something because it was written somewhere in the show. That can come back to bite you on the butt when they write it again differently like miss leafy’s name here. I haven’t watched this yet though, so maybe what they wrote actually makes some sense. But I just think a little more caution should be taken and when animators herp, just go with what sounds the coolest. 😉

57. Quietust on November 12, 2012 at 3:18 am said:

I couldn’t help but notice that Kirito’s “illusion” was quite similar to “The Gleam Eyes” from episode 9 (though without the snake tail and with red eyes instead of blue eyes); given how much ALO was implied to have been copied from SAO, I guess it’s not all that surprising.

58. @Quietust:
Well, Kirito’s illusion was… something. Here, it looks like “The Gleam Eyes”, and in the novels it was described as something akin to a devil. Either way, the reason the whole illusion of his shook them all so badly is that there weren’t any players before who changed into anything so scary-looking. And for a reason, because what the player changes into is based on their character’s combat skill values, meaning that Kirito got turned into something like that because of his cheating, pretty much.

59. @Kazeto :
So… In other words… Kirito’s basically Like a BOSS! If he were a monster…? 🙂

60. lol, I can think of many applications of Illusion magic in combat, I have a feeling that players just aren’t being creative enough. 😛

61. Soukyuu on November 12, 2012 at 2:33 pm said:

@Inko37: More like: “Eww, ILLUSIONS? Fire is so much cooler!! You can’t blow something up with your illusions…”

62. @Glummy:
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. And hey, there is a moment later that he decides that some monsters (that he is fighting multiples of) aren’t all that tough because each of them is weaker than a floor boss in SAO, so he is a monster even without the illusion.
And I agree about players not being creative enough. But then again, most players are like, what, middle-schoolers? Maybe high-schoolers, but that still isn’t the age where humans are capable of being really creative when it counts (for the most part).

63. Ashandarae on November 12, 2012 at 8:23 pm said:

I’m almost certain the ‘devil’ Kirito transformed into WAS The Gleam Eyes. As for why Kirito chose its form, there were prolly multiple reasons, like the fact that it was the first (known) Boss Kirito had to Duel-Wield against (which he only did in desperation up to that point). Additionally, in the LN Kirito mentions that the story of Lugloo Corridor reminds him of Moria from LotR, so he’d naturally think of a demon (the Balrog) confronting warriors on a bridge; the demon he knows best is The Gleam Eyes.

64. natsukashii-ne? on November 12, 2012 at 8:42 pm said:

This episode was kind of disappointing for me. we’ve only got 7 episodes left now, and I’m worried about the plot pacing. I do look forward to the next one, however, and I hope they don’t muck it up.
Anyone else laugh when Kirito goes all insane and declares NOBODY WILL DIE EVAR ON MY WATCH NOT IN THIS (VIRTUAL) WORLD!!! Talk about SAO PTSD.

65. It’s not as much SAO PTSD as it is him simply getting used to the fact that killing characters will also kill the players since it was true for him for two years. Combine it with feelings of guilt from not having dealt with Laughing Coffin appropriately early, and here you go. But yeah, there are elements off PTSD in his behaviour.
And 7 episodes should be enough, natsukashii-ne?.
After his daring rescue in the next episode there is his raid on Yggdrassil, one chapter of him being an obstinate moron out of desperation (which helped him in the), Sugu-breaking reveal, and the second raid on Yggdrassil with Suguou being fail impersonated.
66. natsukashii-ne? on November 12, 2012 at 9:45 pm said:

I meant to mention, I thought what you said about the “Gleam Eyes” was right on, and I think the differences in appearance are just aesthetic like the skin-deep changes to the SAO engine in ALO, rather than purposeful or conscious on Kirito’s part…
And yeah, if they do it right, 7 will be enough. I guess I just want me some Asuna already. Also, I have PTSD, so it was just really easy to make that jump with Kirito’s behavior. Unrelated note, I do wish this show would learn to be a little more subtle sometimes.

67. Typo @00:18: Spriggans instead of Spiggans
