Our encoder messed up, so our release has been stalled by roughly 4 hours (everything else is complete). Considering it’s almost midnight, I’m sure we’ll be in bed by the time the encode is ready. So if anything, expect a release by early-morning (or not, you may get lucky). RAZE EDIT: Expect the release at about 1-2am Eastern Time. Staying up for an extra hour or so isn’t a big deal (unless you’re Kusion).

RAZE EDIT PT.2:: I can finally go to bed. T_T

Hopefully this is worth the wait. Next week won’t be quite as painful for all of us, promise.

In other news, Maika is in the episode. Maika is also win.

hmm I’m just wondering whether she’s actually called Orsola or Ursula, also Anieze or Agnes?
Damn Index series for having such ambiguous naming sense >_<

40. Where the hell is Satan-San!!!!! Me want Satan-San!
no Satan-San = Epic fail

41. Anonymity on October 16, 2010 at 2:02 pm said:

You want Satan the lord of the hell?
Don’t you mean Saten 😛
Besides she only makes cameo appearances in this series, if you really want her, then just wait for the next Railgun series or OVA :/

42. thewizardninja on October 16, 2010 at 2:33 pm said:

@Anonymity
It’s hardly ambiguous, “Orsola” is the Italian equivalent of “Ursula” and you’d never find an Italian “Anieze” since in order to produce the same sounds that make up the name in Italian it would have to be spelled “Agnese”. These are the official romanisations from Kamachi himself as well.

43. @Anonymity: Orsola and Agnese are the official Romanization of their names, confirmed in “Toaru Majutsu no Index no Subete”, an Index databook.

44. Anonymity on October 16, 2010 at 4:46 pm said:

Thanks for clearing that up, I seriously had no idea.
And I never really followed the light novel or any other data regarding Index ._.

45. I wonder what
Thomas Aquinas would think of the real Liber AL vel Legis. Heresy, most likely
46. When are you going to put an actual editor on this show? It looks like you did a bit a proofreading… incorrectly, considering all those extra commas where the Japanese pause, but otherwise left the wording exactly as the TL would have translated it.

47. The Dutch Guy on October 16, 2010 at 6:04 pm said:

Is it just me or am I just getting more and more confused right now.
It’s like where tossed in the middle of a story and missed a season or 2.
I just keep watching, hopefully it all falls to place. But so far I don’t get it.

48. @The Dutch Guy: The fuck is there not to get? Nothing has changed at all, a new arc just started. Read the subs and don’t just look at the pictures and you’ll know exactly what happened.

49. Thanks for the sub!

50. thewizardninja on October 16, 2010 at 11:50 pm said:

@The Dutch Guy
I’m sure it’s because the first episode is meant to happen in the middle of S1. Watch the last episode of the 1st season and then go straight to the second episode of the 2nd season and you’ll see it flows better than you think.

51. cking543 on October 17, 2010 at 1:05 am said:

was the font changed from episode 1? it looks a bit different

52. Leon-Gun on October 17, 2010 at 3:25 am said:

Just to clarify, yes, the first episode of season 2 happens right before the Hyouka arc from season 1. I’m pretty sure they just wanted to ease viewers into the series by animating a chapter they decided to skip before for some reason. They at least needed to remind people of Index and her grimoires and considering they NEVER actually had an actual random mage try to attack Index in season 1 it was a good change of pace.

53. @cking543: Yeah, they changed it a little. TBH I liked the old font more, don’t know why it was changed.

54. @ Anonymity Opps, my fingers slipped xD “Satan.” For index 2, I’m also hoping to see more action and less talking.

55. After watching the episode 2 from UTW, we still feel the editing is still poor and sub par. It feels like the editor just took the script from the translator, put it in Microsoft Office, and ran Spelling and Grammar function. We decided to release our own version with extensive editing to cater to the true fans. Enjoy!
P.S. UTW, get a proper editor who doesn’t suck, please.
You are free on UTW to say whatever rude, ignorant, and misguided things you like. However, after stealing our encode and script, making useless and banal changes (often to the script’s detriment), and calling it your own work, you’re not going to be using our webspace to advertise your hackery as well. URLs deleted.

56. @EA
“After watching the episode 2 from UTW” sounds like you put it through Microsoft Office too.
P.S After i watch episode 2 from UTW, i don’t need to see it again for a while.

57. Off topic but I like the new banner : )

58. EricJohnson on October 17, 2010 at 2:36 pm said:

Eh not a big fan of the new banner. As cute as Rin is, I’m not just not feeling her new facial expression -_- The old one was just awesome lol

59. Isn’t this the same banner they’ve had for like, 3 months? It’s not really new.

60. O wait, took some time for my cache to catch up. Meh, I would’ve put a more serious pic of Rin.

61. Alright I can agree with that, I more serious looking Rin would look better

62. Leon-Gun on October 17, 2010 at 5:00 pm said:

I have to LOL at the pretentious idiot who came here just to mock the sub. If you don’t like their work so much (even though they’ve made a lot of concessions already) go out and do your own fansub releases.
Also yeah, the irony in your comment is too much.

63. Would you consider doing a patch for episode 1 to make the subs the same style as episode 2 please so they all match .

64. @EricJohnson
Thats actually an in-game CG :/

I’ve noticed this in the first post as well, but what does kinshomokuroko mean?
Also, thanks for excellent work, guys! Always enjoy your subs to da max~
P.S. The banner looks okay, but I kind of preferred the last one more. Not enough to ragequit though.

66. thewizardninja on October 18, 2010 at 7:39 am said:

@TheGuy
It means Index. Go figure.

67. thewizardninja on October 18, 2010 at 7:41 am said:

On that note I laughed at how Laura calls her Kinshomokuroko instead of Index. You guys need to put more effort into replicating her archaic speech patterns, like using out-dated words or even throwing in some Old English. Just saiyan.

68. @thewizardninja
Then you just laughed at something that wasn’t supposed to be a joke in the first place. Just saiyan.
“Kinshomokuroku” and “Index Librorum Prohibitorum” are synonymous terms referring to the same thing/person. It has nothing to do with Laura’s manner of speech.

69. thewizardninja on October 18, 2010 at 1:35 pm said:

@Raze
Oh, the two statement were unrelated. After reading my comment again I can see why you would think they were though. You still need to make it more obvious she speaks funny.

70. Shadow on October 18, 2010 at 5:57 pm said:

That explains why I thought it odd when Stiyl asked her why she was speaking strange when the subs made her speech sound normal.
Fun episode! Thanks UTW!

71. @Raze
I agree with thewizardninja that UTW should try to convey Laura’s ancient speech patterns in English though. You kind of accomplished it using terms such as “converse” instead of simply “talk” but it still didn’t really get the point across that she speaks in a very odd way, mixing modern and ancient Japanese together in her sentences.
For example, when she said “Can you not simply enjoy the fact that you’re walking with someone like me?” you could put “Canst thou not partake in the privilege you have by walking with someone such as I?”
Then again, I see how that can get tedious for the editor and slow down releases even further if he doesn’t know ancient English that well.

72. Things like that can get tedious for the viewer as well. When you start trying to write accents/speech patterns into the script, you end up getting into cases like Osaka having a Brooklyn accent, or (every Kansai-jin ever) talking like some Southern Belle. Sometimes it’s easier all around to just trust that the viewer is deft enough to pick up on what are often relatively obvious differences in speech.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with trying to tackle something like that, but there are pitfalls to it as well.

73. thewizardninja on October 19, 2010 at 5:56 am said:

@Ershin
You don’t have to go as overboard as Suzuku suggests but there should be SOME indication, especially considering the way she speaks was brought up in the show. Otherwise it just looks like Stiyl was criticizing her speech for no reason and that’s just going to leave people confused. I can understand why you wouldn’t want to bother conveying accents and dialects but her weird speech is completely different and the strangeness of it isn’t obvious at all unless you know more than a little Japanese. So unless you really believe the average person would have noticed her strange speech patterns, before or after Stiyl calling her out on it, I suggesting you edit her dialogue.

74. Random thought I just had about Maika. She’s always riding on a cleaning robot, and the robot seems to know where she wants to go, but there are no external controls that she’s using to control it. Maybe she’s an esper too, and her ability is to control robots or something. Not really serious speculation, just an interesting idea.

75. Mooficus on November 7, 2010 at 12:32 pm said:

Yay Maika! This show could do with some more Maika. I mean, didn’t she only get brief cameos on the first Index and Railgun?
