Calling All Artists! And Fate/Zero BD Update

EDIT (19/3/2012): A couple of you have asked me for more direction regarding the slides. Here are some notes I’ve jotted down on what I’m imagining this to look like at the moment, though you’re of course free to go with your own interpretation.

——————————————-

The Fate/Zero season 1 Bluray box set came with a drama CD about Kiritsugu’s and Irisviel’s first days together, and I mentioned in a previous post that I wasn’t sure if I’d translate them. I’m currently leaning towards yes, but here at UTW we always strive to go the extra mile when possible, and I figured it’d be nice if we could get some of you artists out there involved in this fan effort.
I’m looking for one or more people to draw up a slideshow of images to go with the events that transpire in the drama CD. The images don’t have to be full-blown colored and rendered (since I understand how long that would take); they can even just be tastefully-done sketches, as long as they are appropriate and match what’s happening. Since these tracks in the drama CD are pretty much just dialogues between Kiritsugu and Irisviel, I estimate that each track won’t need more than 3-4 images (some of them can be reused across tracks, too), though the actual number would be entirely up to you, of course.
You can find the translation for the first track below:

The audio you can grab here or from the usual sources.
If you’re interested, go ahead and try drawing images to go with the first track. Send me an email by next week so I know you’re interested, along with any images you have completed so far. Feel free to also link to them here by writing a comment to this post.
If you can’t draw (like me), do help us out by contacting skilled artists you might know, or by spreading the word.
If this works out, we’ll have these nice little video slideshows with the original drama CD audio and timed subtitles for you guys. If it doesn’t and I decide to go ahead and translate the rest of the drama CD anyway, we’ll probably just release the translations through the site and in the batch torrent.
As for the episodes and other specials, we’ve decided to throw them out as they get done via XDCC and DDL; there will be no torrents until the final batch torrent at the end. We should have the first episode or two and the first Einzbern Consultation Room special ready by the end of this weekend.

1. I wish I had the time…
I applaud your decision to make this a group fan effort. I can’t wait to see the final product 😀

2. Drama CDs are very often overlooked, so I’m very excited that UTW has shown interest in translating this one. I’m grateful for all the effort and will forward to these releases.

3. Thanks for all of your hard work, and please take your time. I (and I’m sure many others) eagerly await the forthcoming releases.

4. This is a brilliant idea. I would love to do something like this but I am sure there is much more talented people in the world who should be participating. I feel like I would be mucking something up that will inevitably be beautiful. Besides, I could most likely only finish one decent colorless drawing; let alone 3~4. I can’t wait to see how this turns out in the end though.
Thank you guys for always working so hard for “we” the fans. You guys are the best fan subbers for a reason. Keep up the amazing work! 🙂

5. josephting, i recommend you to first start playing the visual novel of Fate/stay night so you will understand tha basics of the Holy Grail War, then you can continue with F/Z. (Don’t watch the anime version of FSN, it sucks)
Anyway you just can watch Fate/Zero but maybe there are gonna be somo stuff that will be confusing for you that are explained in FSN

6. @josephting:
I’d say you should play the F/SN VN first, but if you really don’t want to, at least watch the anime before watching F/Z.

7. So can’t wait to see what additional content has been added to the episodes, if any. I known F/SN was released first, but I’m gonna watch that after I’ve watched ZERO.

8. @josephting:
The F/SN anime was mediocre, but it’s easily watchable in one full day. The F/SN visual novel is a lot better, but not that great. By watching the anime or playing/reading the VN you will surely learn a lot of background of the universe, you’ll get things better, you’ll get a lot reference better, but it is not really needed.
The reason I’m saying this is because Fate Zero is way better, has a darker tone as is less childish than F/SN, so probably you wouldn’t be able to bear with F/SN, but you would have loved Fate Zero, and I really think Fate Zero is worth watching.
In conclusion, if you have a lot of time and want to get the most out of Fate Zero, play the F/SN VN and do all the endings. If you don’t have that much time but you want to understand the background and implications of Fate Zero better, watch the F/SN anime first. If you really are scarce in time or don’t want to waste it with F/SN, you can still watch Fate Zero and you won’t be really lost in it.
Take in mind that Fate Zero is a prequel to Fate / Stay Night.

9. @alex0714
the only thing that he will learn from the anime is how to scream seiba lol.
@josephting
From someone that saw the anime first and then read the novel I say that you should give the VN a try.Fate scenario is better than the anime UBW isnt full as a story and Heaven’s Feel isnt even animated.
As for watching F/Z after F/SN :The only reason for that is Heaven’s Feel scenario which is better reading it before watching F/Z.

10. @josephting As everybody else said read the VN. Someone said that the VN was childish compared to Fate/Zero witch is kinda true for the Fate and UBW routes its not for the Heaven’s Feel route. The Heaven’s Feel route is just as dark as Fate/Zero.

11. Suggestion: Do this in 2 versions. 1 for serious interpretation that does the audio justice. and 1 for comedic purposes. I see potential for both versions.

12. wow, i really appreciated your hard work and time for translating this.
hmm, i might give the drawing part a try.

13. you guys are the greatest! fanart to go with a fansub, who would’ve thunk it? 😉
keep up the good work guys.

14. Cool! Thank you all, alex0714, damedame, someone, ssjokg and nothing935.
I’ll at least watch F/SN the anime I think. I don’t have a lot of time to spare for anime but I really do enjoy any good story.

15. Incredibly excited for the BDs. Thank you for doing this for us! The wait will definitely be worth it, no matter how long it takes 🙂

16. Amazing idea, I’m really looking forward to the final product for the Drama CD. I wish I could draw, because I would gladly participate in this if I could.

17. @ar
If there’s gonna be no torrent. then please pick a good downloading website, that has good speed, (not complaining, just putting it out there)

18. I would loved to give it ago but I dont have that much free time TT.TT
sad…. it would help with my skills and exposure too. i think…

19. First, thanks for he release!
Unfortunately here seem to be a problem with the chapters on episode 1 for the 1080p, the ED appears as ‘Part K’ and ‘Ending’ points to the preview. CRC check comes out fine – 50256238.

20. @Kyon-kun
We won’t be releasing a v2 fix for slightly off chapters. The original plan was to use Chapter 01/02/etc because that is how they’ve chaptered it on the blu-rays. If the last chapter point is off, it can’t be helped~
The chapter points are physically correct, which is what really matters. Names are just that, names. The chapters themselves are actually named 01,02,03,04… in the blu-ray menus. There was an extra chapter point right at the end, I guess I forgot to remove it and that’s what happened.
Anyway your release is fine if that naming is wrong there, it happens on my mux too (lol).

21. @josephting
So you plan on watching the FSN anime? Don’t expect to much from it. It’s just mediocre. If you don’t want to play the original VN just start with Fate/Zero.

22. Sorry for this question if it has been asked before, but is there anything new in the series on the bluray disks? like uncensored scenes, creditless endings etc.

23. @ar
Ok thanks.
And the 720 version has the same content as the 1080 ones?
Cos i remember your Angel Beats 1080s had more than the 720s

24. as umiko said, i didn’t expect the bgm to be so soft either. i thought there might have been something wrong with my laptop. it’s my first time downloading a blu-ray so i guess i just have to accept the difference. thanks for the release!

25. @umiko/silvermoon
Yeah you just get used to it. Some stuff is louder than others on blu-ray, but typically sound is somewhat quiet, quieter than television broadcasts at least.

26. How hard is it to demux the god damn script from an matroska container!?
Unless you live in a third world nation with dailup, we pretty much released the script (with about 299MB of bloat, in your case.)

27. I have the same question as Shilong Zhu. Can you guys upload the translated script as a txt file? because i can’t seem to get the video of the drama cd to work on my vlc player. I hear the audio but there are no subtitles. thanks.

28. Does anyone know the audio background track they use in Drama CD I (24:42-28:12)? It sounds like a lighter romantic version of the beginning of the end but I couldn’t find it in the OSTs.

29. I blog quite often and I truly thank you for your information. This
article has truly peaked my interest. I am going to book mark your website and keep checking for
new details about once per week. I subscribed to your RSS feed as
well.
