Minna-san, Konbanwa! I sacrified my Saturday evening (was supposed to go drinking!) to get this ready for release, so without further ado I present Angel Beats! Blu-Ray Volume 2. I’ve put the added extras in an easy to read point form! This is all extra mile related business, tl;dr You want our BD encodes because you won’t find any other video done this way (at least not so far).
Bonus Features List:
* Episode 03: Creditless Ending + Web Preview Spliced In
* Episode 04: Creditless Ending + Web Preview Spliced In
720p Release
* Video – ~CRF 15, 2-pass mixed
* Audio – AC3 2.0 320Kbps
1080p Release
* Video – ~CRF 16.5, 2-pass mixed
* Audio Track 1 – Main: FLAC 2.0 24bit
* Audio Track 2 – Commentary: AC3 2.0 24bit 192Kbps
By the way, the commentary is NOT translated because it’s simply a translating nightmare.
Thanks:
Ershin – Translation was great for this show
Super-secret UTW Chap – Buying Angel Beats Blu-Rays and uploading decrypted iSO’s with a slower internet connection than mine! You’re a legend!
Raze – Yelling at me for patching the Batch release (so I made sure this was as close to perfect as I could)
The rest of the team – Slacking off and requiring me to do this on my own!
Blu-Ray Volume 3 retail release is 08/25, so if all goes well expect Ep05+06 release about ~1 week after that.

  1. Nais work there, hard hat. (Props to whoever figures out where this phrase is from)
    Once again, thanks. Tell me, are you guys gonna do a BD batch?

  2. so is there going to be any Specials in the BDs? and if so can thay have an avi? im not so keen on downloading 500+MB Eps that i know my computer will just….eh~~~~ 24minits files over 400MBs don’t play very well on my old dell….its sad…waaa T.T

  3. BD Volume 7 will have an unaired OVA feature + making of Angel Beats extra. Nobody knows what the feature will be though, so your guess is as good as mine. We’ll know when it gets closer to December (comes out end of month).

    It’s all good, no need to donate mate 🙂 At least half of us have jobs so money isn’t a big issue. That’s also why we don’t do a lot of shows, since work means less time for hobbies. But thanks for the generosity none the less. 🙂

    what do you think about me using the web previews vs the original kana ones? imho I think they shoulda went with them originally, but since they didn’t and they provided as extras I thought it’d be a nice touch to splice them in as replacements, same with creditless endings.
    Bit of extra work for me, but since Key did a good job with the BDs the frame length of the extras such as creditless op/eds and web pvs is the same as the regular versions. Not that this is important, just means there is no extra hassle having to do additional shifts for the scripts.

  6. Hey, is anyone having trouble getting these to play? I can get them going in VLC but they seem to just be hanging MPC.

  7. “what do you think about me using the web previews vs the original kana ones?”
    what do you mean? sorry i’m a little difficult to understand what u asked bcoz English is not my first language…..
    what is the difference between web preview and original kana?

  8. original preview of the next episode was white screen with numbered lines + voice
    web preview was animated and they included it as an extra in the BDs
    what ar did was replace the whitescreen preview with the animated one. Looks great 😛

  9. @square: it’s your codec’s setting, check back the BD1 post, I mentioned how to settle it. If still not working, maybe it’s your pc problem.
    @utw: well done people! I’m loving all your works, as always!

  10. ara….sokka….btw since i haven’t finish downloading BD 2….(thanks 4 new anime dat always come 2 me everyday)
    i will answer dat when i finish it…..:)

  11. And there’s me stuck in an hotel in China for the next month, with no way to get my grubby mitts on the latest releases.
    Oh well, I’ll just have to drown my sorrows in a few cold ones!

  12. Why is commentary a translating nightmare? Is it just a problem of how to differentiate what is being said in the episode vs. what is being said in the commentary when placing subtitles, or something else?

  13. @Isarr: Have you heard casual Japanese conversation? It’s intense. Add to that the insane pace of these particular commentaries (obviously scripted). You would have to be one hell of a translator to keep up. There would be a crap load of lines to translate. They end result would be that the entire screen would be filled with text, and I doubt I could even read it as fast as they are talking.

  14. It’s a translating nightmare not in terms of language difficulty (it really isn’t that much more difficult to handle than the actual episode dialogue itself, and I’m sure we’d be more than able to handle it if we really wanted to do it), but in the sense that it’d be a LOT of pointless work. There is little to no point translating what would surely be many, many lines of commentary that the casual watcher such as myself wouldn’t even bother listening to, when our time could be much better spent, inside or outside of fansubbing.

  15. Listen! i finished download BD 2 ! and i have to say…
    WEB PREVIEW IS BETTER !
    it will be such a waste if u use the original kana since web preview is the bonus in the BD…..
    i like Otonashi’s face in the ep 4 web preview…
    sorry my English is suck……..:)

  16. but wait…..how can i listen to de Audio Commentary?
    my download files only contain ep 3 & 4……nothing else…..
    where is it?

  17. It’s muxed in to the mkv. If you’re using MPC-HC, right click on the video window when you’ve opened the mkv, menu->filters->haali splitter->select Commentary Audio track.
    To change back, just do the same thing and select Main.
    Heres a screenshot showing you where it is, for illustrative purposes~

    Do you mean the one included with Volume 1?
    Edit:
    If so, I’ll see if I can get it ripped from the CD to check it out. Once we’ve got the audio, then I can see if Ershin is interested in translating it or not. I won’t make any promises because at the end of the day it’s a matter of whether he’s interested in translating it and has the free time. He’s a pretty busy guy so even if he does, it might take a little while to get done. I can give you more of an answer once I’ve got the audio in hand anyhow.

  19. I think it was included with volume 1, yes. If you just need a quick version of it to see if there’s interest, here’s the one I got off of TT: http://www.mediafire.com/?lx9igdyuzqxchqy
    Obviously one ripped by you personally would be higher quality (especially since this is just a flv file), but for speed on gauging interest it may help. Thanks.

  20. truly….UTW….i just wanna say….many, many thanks for u….
    i can drop my tears in Angel Beats!….
    truly….from the bottom of my heart….i wanna say….thank you very much…
    i love u guys….

    Doesn’t seem like we have the Drama CD from Volume 1. If an EAC appears on PD I’ll grab it though.

  22. Sorry for the slight necro, but I was wondering if there are clean OP sequences confirmed on any of the future volumes. I would be very surprised if Key doesn’t include NCOP on at least one of the discs…
    In the meantime, any chance for you guys to include separate OP/ED files so I can watch/listen to the opening without neeeding the whole episode? The music for this show is amazing but my internal HDD is a bit crowded, so I would like to save space if I can. ^^;;

  23. I’ll probably throw them all together come Vol. 7 release, or if time permits you might be lucky and get a Vol. 1-3 cdop/cded batch when I do vol. 3 sometime in the next week, but if I do there won’t be another until the last volume.
    I have no idea what will be included in upcoming volumes unfortunately, not even the Visual Art’s/Key Angel Beats page lists the bonus contents of each volume. So it’s one of those we know when we get the shipped Blu-Ray things.
