In the year 1925… Germany invaded Poland and triggered what would be known as the second World War, or so the story goes. In this universe, it seems like WW2 begins in the mid-20s. I guess we don’t get a timeskip after all ;<
The Christmas of 1924 (between 22 & 23) brought many a gift for all; Kujo got the gift of a haircut, Victorique a chess set, the Marquis de Blois a memento box, Cordelia some pyrotechnics and Roscoe (non-evil one) a pair of black matching pistols (see note at bottom)
That’s enough blogging for me. The delay this week was brought to you by subbing the Ano Hana finale and Raze being employed and overworked (so he claims~). Enjoy this weeks episode, only a few more days till the finale.
Also, with a double-aria this week it may affect Gosick’s release timeframe, but we’ll see what happens and how much work the script needs/etc. We’ll do our best, k~
Pistol note: The pistols Roscoe draws appear to be Mauser C96’s from afar, though on the close-up they have removable mags which the C96 didn’t get until the 1930’s, and look more like modern sub-machine guns than their early 20th century counterparts. I guess considering the timeline for the second world war, historical firearm accuracy would be the least of their worries (lol).

NB: Ano Hana Batch will be done when it’s done.

There’s lots of work to do on it, so when we’ve got the time we’ll get it all done and till then you wait patiently (even if you don’t it won’t make it any faster. Hell, we might even delay it more~).

  2. @Aloha
Ano Hana batch won’t be for a couple of weeks at least (if not longer). There’s a fair bit of work to do on it, and not enough time to do it.

  4. @niggas
    sure~

  5. Pretty sweet, took a while, but this episode is pretty epic. 🙂

  6. I always liked Brian. And always HATED Roscoe. Turns out my gut feeling was right…
ignore the ano hana batch requests till you guys are good and ready. it’ll take weeks just to digest what we’ve already seen anyway. Now if we could just get a request thread going for next season. Sooo looking forward to new Last Exile coming out.

Ah, great! Thanks for getting this out!

  8. The first thing some people comment is if you could please make a batch though you can better spend their time subbing new anime and after that’s done making a batch. But some people don’t understand unfortunataly…
Anyway, thanks for this weeks episode, I always wait patiently for your release.

uhm… can you correct your post please. World War II didnt start until september 1939. In 1925 the only thing what happened that can be connected to WWII was Hitler writing his “Mein Kampf” the first Book.
With that the firearms would be correct again and just the time a bit jumpy in the anime.
Nyways – ty as always for the good work. Keepem comming!
    Greetings from Germany *cough*

  19. @Magistrella: I think he was saying that in GOSICK it happens in 1925, and that we didn’t get a 10+ year timeskip in the anime to make it match up with real life.

  20. Luke on June 29, 2011 at 8:52 pm said:

Has Yoda always been this cute?

  21. Excited that the end is almost here 🙂 Thanks!

  22. wait, maybe there was a time skip. maybe WWII jumped BACK into the past to occur in the 20’s! Hitler must have used his time machine to jump back in time to start his plans a few years early…except now he’s armed with the knowledge of his enemies’ plans

  23. whoa O.o Cordelia’s pretty damn awesome! thanks for the ep

Unrelated question, but… I just wanted to know:
Any reason why the [UTW-THORA] Arrietty Movie release didn’t get a post here?

Damn, this episode was so worth waiting for. Those ending scenes were amazing.
Kujo looks weird with a shaved head though :V

  26. virox on June 30, 2011 at 1:09 am said:

So much for the “years from now” prophecy.
My only guess is that they made the prophecy like how it was in the earlier volumes, but when they got details about the last novels, they decided to say “fuck it” and skipped the timeskip.
Also, lol at Cordelia jumping around like Yoda

  27. Is there a timeskip in the novels?

  28. DExM on June 30, 2011 at 2:08 am said:

Wait wait, there’s an evil!Roscoe and a good!Roscoe? I thought there was just the one that hated Victoriqueca and another one that wanted to kill Victoriqueca.

This episode was pretty epic all over, but lol Kujo’s hair. I just can’t hear him with that voice and see that appearance… It doesn’t fit at all. Looking forward to the finale~!

    awesome ep!thanks so much!!:)
i teared up a bit at the end…
how are they going to end this, i wonder.
i’m going to be sad for weeks together if they don’t find each other. 🙁

  37. Suigintoh on July 1, 2011 at 10:51 am said:

Great… It felt like they didn`t know how to finish the story well, so they went with the end “Everyone except Victorique dies in the end.” Am I the one who thinks that the story stopped making sence after episode (20) where Albert Bloir wished Cordelia and her daughter all well?

  38. Suigintoh on July 1, 2011 at 10:52 am said:

Sorry, I meant “Am I the ONLY one?”
But, anyway, thanks for releasing the episode.

  39. damn, cordelia owns 🙂 Wow, what an awesome episode. I’ve never wanted to see the next one this badly before. Very nice ending for this episode. Truly epic 🙂

  40. The series had a nice ending. Thanks for subbing. Also look forward to re-watching the last episode in HD rather that with HorribleSubs’ 480p.
    ??? ?? ???

  41. Just a comment on the pistols. Those do look alot like M712 Schnellfeuers, and you’re correct in that its a little early for them. At the same time however, way back in the first arc, we see a Walther PP series pistol (Julie had it in her purse), which also did not come along until 1929. My point is just that historical inaccuracies of such things have been there the whole time and its nothing really new for the series.

  42. @T10: with low res animation it’s hard to say what Julie was packing. When she threw the pistol down the stairs in episode 3 it seemed to have a knurled-nut on the muzzle which Walther had on its single action models 2 (1909) to 5 (1913). And the Schnellfeuer lookalike could be any of the Mauser C96 derivatives and rip-offs that had a run from 1896 to 1937. But as you know this is anime and any correspondence with reality is probably coincidental (^^)
