The studio romanized Liz’s name as both “Lizbeth” and “Lisbeth” in the episode (who cares about consistency, right?), so I guess we get to choose! We chose “Lizbeth” (yes, we know it’s “Lisbeth” in the Material Editions, but “Lizbeth” reads more naturally and the “Liz” short form comes from it nicely).
As for the episode, they cut YOU KNOW WHAT out and I am now a sad panda, but it’s otherwise a great adaptation of the side story.
EDIT: By “YOU KNOW WHAT”, I wasn’t referring to what happened in the shop, but I now see why you guys thought so. Turns out I read the original web version of the “Warmth of the Heart” side story, and the section I was thinking of got taken out for the published version.
It basically went like this:
Instead of asking to hold hands, Lizbeth asks Kirito if she could go over to his sleeping bag. Kirito says yes, and Lizbeth strips down to just a camisole before slipping herself into Kirito’s sleeping bag. Kirito then timidly wraps his arms around her; Lizbeth asks him to hug her tighter, which he does, and she basically passes out while climaxing (?) in his embrace.
1. been waiting for this, thank you very much…. UTW the best!

2. Not even 1% downloaded yet, and I think I think what ‘YOU KNOW WHAT’ is :(. They missed it out 2 episodes ago too.

3. P.S. Thanks again 😀

Thanks so much for the episode!
Have a great night!

10. Thanks for the episode!

11. The “YOU KNOW WHAT” is referring to why he wanted a new sword “as good or better than” the one he already had. Showing that would be foreshadowing (and maybe ruining the surprise) so it doesn’t really detract from the episde (unlike the BIG cuts in the first two episodes and the huge gap between ep2 and 3)

They’re not adapting the ME so nothing was really left out since they weren’t official…

15. I think it’s better they left the “You know what” out since this side story was created after the main story finished. I too am a sad panda though…

Ohhhh….. by “You know what” you mean when he takes out his ______ in the shop and really impresses lizbet with his….finesse. lol. yeah, im glad they left it out though. the show has done a really good job of cutting what needs to be cut pretty gracefully.

Cutting “You know what” out. makes sense since the show is for people that didn’t read the light novels. Looks like this is it for the side stories for as next week episode will go down the main arc now. 🙂

If the “You Know What” is what I’m thinking it was (Only two big points that I can remember that were cut… and one of those takes place at the end of the main story, so I doubt anyone expected that to be here), I was expecting it to be cut in the first place, and it really was the best choice. It would have ruined the reveal later on, since the side story was written assuming you’d already read the original and didn’t need to worry about spoiling anything.
There is one thing I was disappointed didn’t make it in, though (Not sure this even counts as a spoiler):
At the end of their conversation when Kirito goes out to find Liz, he equips Dark Repulser in place of his old sword. The previously mentioned event that wasn’t shown did lead up to that, but it would have made sense even without it, and I think it would have been nice to include, and the line that went along with it:
“From today onwards, this sword will be my partner. The bill will… be settled for in the other world.”
26. Charkelle on August 19, 2012 at 3:45 am said:

Ah, thanks for the clarification, I never knew about that. The only version I read was the one actually published in volume 2. Yeah, that scene went mostly the same as it did in the version I’m familiar with, so I didn’t even think that you might be referring to that.

27. CyberTonTo72 on August 19, 2012 at 3:52 am said:

another great episode, and i think once this anime has finished i might look into reading the LN’s as there seems to be 2 different stories being told
so of glad they left out what they did in the cave, makes the character of Kirito a better person for it, but it could of make for a more dramatic story…
Thanks for the release

28. So, doesw anyone who read the LN know if in the next episode, the main story finally begins?

29. Thanks guys! I liked this episode 🙂 Even if they cut out a bunch of stuff, it still flowed pretty well. And Liz is really nice and cute!!
.
But yeah, they cut out YOU KNOW WHAT!!! I guess it will be more of a surprise when YOU KNOW WHAT comes out in the main series, like in the light novels. So it’s not too bad either 🙂

30. Justinnnnnn on August 19, 2012 at 4:16 am said:

This was a faster release than usual? If so, keep it up!
And man, after reading what that You Know What was, I’m digging this episode a lot more because they didn’t include that 😛 Seriously, that segment sounded straight from a fanfic! I thought it was some plot stuff that couldn’t be revealed just yet…Raze you perv :O

31. Yukari on August 19, 2012 at 4:17 am said:

D: I don’t follow the spoiler note in the main post; I read the LN, mostly, and all they did was hold hands. Liz didn’t get into Kirito’s sleepin’ bag.

32. alex0714 on August 19, 2012 at 4:21 am said:

thanks 🙂 Liz is so lovely! Though i like more Lyfa, Sinonon and Asuna of course~

33. @ Yukari
Yes, and I’m saying they modified the original web version to the “holding hands” version for publishing. I didn’t make any of it up!

@ Justinnnnnn
Hahah, I guess the author had more freedom to write pervy scenes like that when it wasn’t being published (Chapter 16.5, anyone?).

34. Charkelle on August 19, 2012 at 4:31 am said:

I’d think the “main” story should be starting next episode, but the next episode’s title makes me wonder. There are only two events that happen during the remaining time period, unless my memory fails me, one of which is another Lizbeth side story (I really don’t expect them to include this, as it’s much less plot-relevant than the others have been), and the other is an event from the main story that was only ever really talked about by the characters, not directly shown to us.
I thought this would be the last side story, but the episode title doesn’t seem to fit the starting point of the main story to me.

35. Charkelle on August 19, 2012 at 4:36 am said:

Though, now that I think about it, that could just be me expecting it to move at a slower pace than it most likely will. It’s pretty obvious who the title refers to, anyway.

YOU KNOW WHAT? I’m a very sad panda now, too. :<

37. @Charkelle
I think the next episode title is referring to
Kirito (black) and Kuradeel’s (white) duel.
Which would make sense, since it happens quite early in the main story.

41. Shuichi on August 19, 2012 at 5:38 am said:

@Raze
My original thought was it’d just be about Kirito(black) and Asuna(white) and him getting the rare ingredient and her cooking for him, but that duel is certainly a possibility, though if the episode titles on wikipedia are accurate, it might make more sense for that to happen the following episode.
Thanks for the awesome release!!! Everything’s almost the same as i imagined it in my head while reading! Loved this shortstory. I’m pleased to see that they didn’t cut out too much, especially the “you know what” about kirito’s sword. Can’t wait for the next episode!. I wonder what’s it about. If its a filler i hope its a good one cuz some of my friends are dropping this cuz of the “slow” story line.
Could the next episode be about the “crazy” fanboy? I remember his art from the LN that his sword is white and kiritos elucidator’s black??? If it is then im one happy camper!!!
43. A lovely adaptation, aside from that “you know what”. :> Liz was as cute as expected!

44. @Raze
I’m quite interested in seeing how far they’ll go in regards to chapter 16.5. I was a bit surprised due to the sudden shift in the light novels. Not much really leading up to it.

45. Shuichi on August 19, 2012 at 6:29 am said:

@F3ar
It’s not part of the light novel, rather it was a special side story he wrote that was posted to a different part of the SAO website. So we’re not going to have any of that. Anything in the actual chapter 16 should be good though, so we should have some interesting scenes.

46. @Raze I think it’s better to use Lisbeth rather than Lizbeth.
in ep. 6 10:04 -> “Lisbeth” in Asuna’s friendlist

So there’s right to use Lizbeth instead Lisbeth
@Kuro thanks for the info!

Great job as always, thanks guys!

60. Uh…. just wondering… anyone has problems at around 15:02? Cause for me that area seems to well… speed up? i don’t know how to describe it. The speeding up(of the image) starts slightly before Lizbeth: “Watashi ne?” and then when Kirito replies(the “what” part) i hear like ‘Na’ very quickly. Is it just me?

61. Let the derpy times roll 🙂
@raze
LOL Your envisioned
night in the Dragon Nest scene doesn’t happen in the LN either. Ergo, it’s more to doujin artist to make it happen. Well, after this episode, the Net will spew countless fan arts and doujin on Liz and Kirito X Liz pairing. I predict. :3
Anyway, like I had said before, this adaptation similar to what they done with Silicia’s side story; a decent one but with some minor adjustment to the original story. Although,
the producer decided not to show a glimpse of Kirito’s Unique Skill, Dual Blades during the Dark Repulser try outs. I think it meant to surprise the non-LN readers of it when the time comes.
Oh, well. At least, all the side stories are out of the way at the moment and we gonna see how they fare with the original story line.

62. Forgot to say, the places where her name appears as Lisbeth is her player status (which means true names).
Don’t know how SAO works, but in all MMOs I played, you could name shops any way you liked (assuming you were in word limit and didn’t use censored words) So, a shop name shouldn’t be helping getting the right name for a character.

63. After this episode, Skyrim jokes will invade this series. Fus Ro DAH!

64. Amagami SS+ specials where?

65. @New 16:18 DARK REPULSER +0 made by Lizbeth
what the hell with this there’s Lisbeth and Lizbeth. Player made equipment usually show the player’s nickname e.g. Luna Online. so I think this is some human-error from the source :p

66. @ AMg
Which part of “Turns out I read the original web version of the ‘Warmth of the Heart’ side story, and the section I was thinking of got taken out for the published version” did you not understand? I didn’t “envision” it; what I read was the original version of the side story that the author himself wrote and published on his blog a long time ago.

@ Kuro
Well done for finding a translation of the section I was talking about! It seems a little Engrishy and I don’t have the originals with me to evaluate the accuracy, but it should be pretty acceptable.

69. @Raze
At the time of the writing, I didn’t know that existed. Really.
C’mon. Even the author said it not might be canon, like the infamous Chapter 16.5. It’s just like another way for the original author saying to the doujin circles out there, “Heh, I’m already made that route. Now, you need to step up your effort to match/suppress it.” If the story being rewrite by an author like Gen Urobuchi maybe that dream would be possible. :3

@Raze and others? xD
are there other small/ (or even big?) parts in the on-his-blog-published version that differ from the officially published light novel?
Is there a place where we can look it up? Otherwise, if it’s not too much to ask for, could u please tell us the approximate places of the differences? Like Volume and page numbers…and a link or key words that lead us to a site with the original blog posts?
whoa I’m asking quite much, sry but I’m addicted to SAO and if there is already a person I can ask, I shall do so ;D

@Sergio,
Well true, the heiress falls for him – then dies, was a good ep. Doesn’t change there are too many heiress falls for him type situations for the amount of episodes we’ve had.

82. @black_lighting
it is because the stories from episode 2-7 are not included in the first novel (main storyline for SAO). If their guesses were right then you might see some good action on the next episode since it will be jumping back to the main novel.
I think the animation company made a good job with the sequencing of events even though they did cut a lot of good scenes on the side stories (but might still be better rather than covering 2 eps per side story pushing the main storyline shorter). The only bad cut was when
Kirito was consoling Lizbeth, they promised that the payment for the sword will be settled in the real world. I think I read it somewhere here in the comments already.
Well the first novel just tackled only a few floors
the first floor as seen on the 1st episode, the 50th floor where kirito resides and that meat, the 61st floor where asuna resides, the 74th floor, the 22nd floor and the 75th floor
.

83. MiiMii on August 20, 2012 at 8:51 am said:

I think they should have stuck with the LN time line. I’m disappointed about the fact that they skipped/ignored telling how the community handles it. I remember a long-ish part in the LN how they divided into communities. That’s said throughout the anime episodes (the man getting the falling fruit, PKers, KoB) but I don’t feel it would be the same where they could have told all that necessary information and then do the ‘time skip’ like in the VN.
Am I biased?
P.S. Volume 1 questions
Did I read it wrong, was I not paying attention too much? Did it seem odd, between Kirito and Asuna, it seemed their relationship was absurdly quick to fall in love with each other. The way I read it was .. Kirito and Asuna sometimes meet at boss runs. She decides to party with him. They fall in love the next few days. Even when they eloped I must have not read where it said 2 weeks at Asuna’s house on Floor 22 or so. From my understanding it was only a few days.. BUT STILL it was a very very good novel, 10/10 would read again, etc
84. Kohiro on August 20, 2012 at 9:16 am said:

Although they took out a lot of what happen from the LN it still flow nicely, not showing the “you know what” was given but what I was hoping for was the part how Kirito cooked the soup with a lantern (A camp stove). It never really show how in the LN (and I want to see that) but they totally cut that off… sad…=_=

85. @MiiMii
Their relationship actually started with “A Murder Case in the Area” (April 2024) It is a side story in volume 8, but it is already shown in the anime. Volume 1 takes place around October. Although they did not start as a couple, 6 month to build up a relationship is a reasonable time.
86. Kohiro on August 20, 2012 at 9:45 am said:

@MiiMii
Those 2 had always liked each other since the first time they met during the first boss fight where Asuna cape came off and (to Kirito’s eyes ‘wow what a beauty’) / after the fight where Asuna talk to Kirito on the second floor. That is when it started but they never truly show their love to one another till the 74th where Kirito used his skill to save everyone and Asuna cry’s over him and it gotten deeper when Asura saved Kirito from Cradil after he join the KoB where then they know they’re meant for one another.
87. @Mimi
just like what Vic said, it was also mentioned in the LN that she first fell in love with Kirito back then, which is 6 months away from the 74th floor timeline, it is just that Kirito keeps distancing himself from everyone whenever he remembers that accident with his first guild.
Kirito was actually that person who helped Asuna realize the beauty of life in SAO, before that she was actually only interested in hunting down bosses and leveling up and by seeing the sleeping Kirito under the tree her love for him slowly develops. Remember how she asked Kirito to friend her, because being friend in SAO have lots of benefits like tracing and messaging. For the past 6 months she would try to make contact with Kirito although it is not really elaborated in the novel but was mentioned in it.
88. @Kohiro
the boss fight on the 74th floor was just Kirito accepting Asuna’s heart although Kirito in my opinion did also have a crush on Asuna, it is just that he is trying to distance himself from others. A clear example was on the Lizbeth story on the 2nd LN as shown in the 7th episode. It was shown there that Asuna is already inlove with Kirito during that time. It wasn’t shown fully in the anime but Lizbeth was actually pestering Asuna in the early parts with what made her different from before and asked her to actually meet the guy but Asuna hinted that it is still a one-sided love
I think its normal that how the anime changed and removed from the LN version of SAO. reading comment here felt like how my sister complain about the movie “Lord of the Rings” as she read the book years before the movie came out. But for us who never read the Book thinks the movie was great and i really dont feel like reading a book that i need a dictionary by my side!
Thus, like the movie have limited show time and not drag the whole episode too long but still need to be able to give you the general plot of the whole story in the most interesting way possible.
I think SAO-anime is doing a great job.

@psyionx
video adaptations of text will always differ simply by virtue of medium. text allows a lot of space for elaboration and subtlety (such as the LN Asuna telling Lizbeth that it more of a one-sided thing regarding Kirito, whereas the anime Asuna would waste several seconds of screen-time acting that out and a more simpler tsunderic denial is more efficient).
still, as far as SAO is concerned, they could technically bring out up to 80% to 90% of the novel’s essence but at the cost of screen time, which directly results to expenses on the studio’s part, as opposed to the 50% or so that the episodes so far are getting out of the source material.
Then again, they ARE side-stories so far, so if they decide to suddenly be more expansive in the adaptation for the main story, it’s their call.
that said, what is the next episode about though? the title seems to indicate it’s about the ME side story regarding a dark elf and a light elf…

91. Just some quick question for the LN readers here.
Does anyone knows what is this ?
Also, does anyone knows when it came out and where in SAO time line it fits?
It would be nice to have it translated… :3
*winks winks*

@Miimii: It did seem a little quick to happen in the first volume, though even there it was mentioned that Asuna had like Kirito for quite some time before that, but Kirito was actively trying to distance himself from everyone else. I think that one of the things some of the side stories were intended to do was flesh out the relationship between the two of them before the events in volume one.
@black_lightning: Yeah, it really has seemed a little repetitive because of the way it all fits into the timeline (since the anime is going chronologically). If you don’t like that, I will say that it will probably get better for you from here on, and there is only really one side story left, and it’s not quite the same thing (And won’t come until a little later anyway).
In the original story, Asuna was the only female character who got more than passing mention aside from maybe Sachi (whose story wasn’t even fully fleshed out until one of the side stories). Silica and Lizbeth weren’t even in the original work, but were introduced in side stories which later became volume two.
Honestly, the way it comes one after the other makes the anime feel kind of harem-esque, which wasn’t really the feeling I got as strongly reading the light novels. It was still there, as the author kept adding more female characters, most of whom ended up liking Kirito in some way (I’m pretty sure even the author even admitted that it may have been too much at one point), but it didn’t seem as obvious as it does in the anime.
I’m not fluent enough to check for eventual spoilers, but I’d say it happens after the 4th volume
as Asuna is in the real world, and Lyfa seems to be featured, too
And, as a drama CD, it shouldn’t be canon.

Thanks a lot UTWOOTS.
Kirito has all the swag. Too bad they didn’t go with the original, would’ve been more touching.
I can’t wait for the continuation of the main story. I just got the light novels too.

98. @Densetsu
Wow! Thanks man, really appreciate it! Downloading now. 😀

Why do spoiler tags say ‘show’. It’s just like they’re asking to be clicked so they can show their contents.

100. Thanks for the ep. By the way, are the NIsemonogatari BD’s forever stalled now, since 8thsin is having reallife issues?

101. Im sorry for not know this but where do you guys get all this information about each episode? I am reading the manga online and I didn’t know about this girl or this sleeping bag incident 😛 How do you know about all the side stories etc?

102. Mirgond on August 21, 2012 at 5:15 pm said:

Because the manga isn’t the original story but the light novel.

103. @Student
That’s the point. It’s a spoiler – you’re only supposed to look at it if you’re not worried about ruining the story.

104. So where can I find the “Original stories”?

Ohh btw, is there a published eng translated version of the visual novel?

106. @Dan
Alternatively – here’s epub versions of 1-8:

While it wouldn’t make sense since the anime is in chronological order, the title of the next episode, 黒と白の剣舞, reminds me of the side story, “Monochrome Concerto.”

108. Thanks F3ar =)

109. @tom
No, real life issues means he just can’t work on regular weekly shows nowadays. He is too busy for that.

110. @RSman
You’d beat me too it :3
They bunching Chapter 5-7 and early part of Chapter 9 into one episode. Most probably skipping 8. hurhur. Let’s hope this turn out decent.
Hey, guys, about xy-vsfilters. I have CCCP (and no, I don’t want to change) and I downloaded and installed the filter, setting it up as directed. My video went away completly in MPC. I checked their forums, and found that it’s better to download the dll (the 7-zip file) and unpack the dll into the CCCP folder. You then run the settings application for CCCP, and select “Re-register filters”.
All good, here, now. Just in case someone else has the same issue.

Was I the only one who noticed this story is a nod to the GameArts game ” Lunar: The Silver Star ” since the first real quest in that game is to get a dragon diamond from a ice dragon that lives nearby and you find out its his sh!t.
