Here you go: the Carnival Phantasm Special Episode that came with the Type-Moon Festival BD Box. I will admit this is late, but I won’t apologize because you’re technically lucky to be getting this now and not half a year later given my ridiculous workload studying the healing arts!

Please note that these releases are 10-bit, unlike the original 12 episodes which were encoded in 8-bit. Not that it should matter at this point.

If I had to comment about this episode, it would be that I’m somewhat glad the “Date Everyone” route came out on top in the online poll.

I really don’t know when the batch for Carnival Phantasm will be ready, but you can expect some progress to be made during school breaks. As for how the Fate/Zero Season 2 BDs are coming, I’m halfway done with translating the final Einzbern special as of writing this post. The rest of the batch is as good as ready, so I’m hoping to throw it out mid-February.

I know what you mean about them spice and wolf novels i am just waiting for them to finish the whole series then buying them all at once, locking myself away somewhere and reading them non stop. I can not handle reading them as they release, for the Haruhi novels sure but not spice and wolf. Also it might end up with the company not translating the last novel like the Karin novels (that was a kick in the balls, left with an incomplete collection.) Though i doubt that will happen to spice and wolf.

Something more on topic, i am thankful enough just to have the Fate/Zero BD done they will done when they are done then i can rewatch them all over again. Anyway once they are done the waiting will fast become a forgotten feeling/memory, just like everything else you wait for.

  2. >not just subbing it from scratch yourself and then using the audio you want

  3. @ar

Listen man, I can’t speak for everyone but most of us here appreciate the hell out of what you guys do for us. You guys like true badasses sacrifice your free time on subbing shitty Chinese cartoons and don’t even make a cent. I understand this and I’m not mad because F/Z isn’t out, okay really disappointed but not mad. I’m mad because Raze said 3 times already that it is was going to be out at xxx and still isn’t out. I know medical school is a pain in the ass, but If you say your going to do something do it, don’t just push it back. So really this brings me to my point that UTW should be more realistic with your release dates in the future. Thanks.

Ever since I first read on MFC that the WonFes BD would have an additional CP episode, I’ve been waiting patiently for this. A million on providing this superb item. m(_ _)m

  5. @Knarf

Yeah i can understand where you’re coming from, but things do come up and affect schedules.

    Lets see.

    Christmas Time
Raze planned to spend it finish upping F/Z while he was on holidays and instead didn’t get much done because I roped him and the Mazui/rori guys into subbing Nekomonogatari (because I’m a SHAFT fag and enjoy the Monogatari series). This practically burnt through the latter half of his 2 weeks off and he didn’t get all that much done on F/Z, but Nekomonogatari got subbed instead, and we had fun (other than breaking our backs in the process!) and people got to watch something different out of the blue. I know I was glad we subbed it since I really wanted to watch it.

    After Xmas Holidays -> Now.
Raze managed to get Onegai Einzbern 5 done, and the last 4 or 5 eps of F/Z.
Carnival Phantasm Special Season came up. This was a more urgent thing to sub than a Blu-ray release of something we’ve already subbed since it’s new material. So he lost any free time he had which he planned to spend on F/Z working on that instead, and mind you it still took him nearly 2 weeks to get the full translation done, and then doing a QC pass on the typesetting+dialogue and fixing anything he wasn’t happy with. While he might have not spent all that much time on it per session, he probably still managed to accumulate a good 8-10hrs of time spent working on it throughout that period, which when you might only have an hour at most free a day, is a great chunk of time. He did manage to get started on Onegai Einzbern 6, which is 30mins long and is a fair bit of work (and which I still have to typeset so there’s time I need to find from my busy schedule to get it done).

Then in between all this he still gives up at least 3-4hrs and sometimes anywhere upto 6-8hrs of his Saturdays to work on Shinsekai Yori every week, depending on how much going over it needs, etc.

So at the end of the day what I’m trying to say is, it doesn’t matter how well you schedule things and even give dates, things always come up and completely destroy that schedule.

Could you have predicted them? No

Could you have factored some in? Yes and that was obviously done.

Would you say fuck it to your real life commitments just to make good with a schedule you gave some people on the internet that you don’t know and that don’t give a shit about what consequences keeping that schedule would have on you just so they can get their cartoons when they hoped they would and a result forget about the whole thing a week later? Probably not.

We even do skip out on some RL stuff to a point but there’s only so much give, and there comes a point where RL comes before hobby commitments, and where new material takes a higher precedence than updates of previously subtitled works.

That’s how it is, and that’s just how the world turns unfortunately. As you get on in the years, you just kinda learn to accept that there’s only so many hours in the day, and there’s only so much one man can do in those hours. If you get disappointed or mad everytime some kind of schedule doesn’t get met, you’ll spend two thirds of your life feeling shitty and that’s not worth it.

Sorry for the tl;dr but yeah you just gotta see it from our shoes and from outside your own box. We want to get stuff done too, but if other things of higher precedence appear, then they get attended to first while lower precedence things get attended to in due time.

  6. TL;DR

1.) Blame AR instead of Raze for UTW not finishing Fate/Zero BD in December, which is when it was originally scheduled for
2.) Raze is awesome, as despite his non existent free time and the hell known as med school, he is still translating chinese cartoons for free
3.) Accept that whenever UTW says “something will be done”, don’t believe them because it’s probably not true and you’ll likely be disappointed if you think that is a statement to take at face value

  7. @ar

Hahahahaha your right we are just some random dudes on the internet with shitty hobbies at the end of the day. I also forgot about how awesome your Neko release was and how much time that must of took up. But hey do you really blame me for being disappointed? Anyone would be disappointed not being able to see naked Gilgamesh in 1080p!

  8. Just a heads up, you probably should change the sidebar, where it says

    “Fate/Zero S2 BDs where?
Just Episode 25 and the final Einzbern special left to finish off now, but Christmas/New Year break is over for Raze and he’s back in Med School. It will definitely be released by February.”

btw, is it just me or is the OP audio kind of washed out compared to the other episodes’ OP? It’s kind of nice though how they subtly ramroded the two into it 😀

  12. @KANOTO (yes i’m too lazy to switch to jp ime!)

That’s entirely possible. Imho we should just be grateful that they supplied a progressive version of the Special Season episode instead of the 30fps interlaced version that was screened on the Day 1 disc during the event, and is like half the bitrate of the one included on the Special Disc (Disc 3).

  13. I feel like someone called in the f/a/ggots to defend Raze’s f/a/ggotry.

  14. カノト on February 1, 2013 at 10:54 am said:

nah, I’m not referring to the video quality (though it does seem slightly low res, I don’t mind). it’s just that, after listening to the mp3 of the OP and watching the previous releases, the audio bitrate and probably the volume seems a bit out of place with the rest of the episode. It’s not like they changed the audio itself, so it’s probably the small off-detail.
Also, you can just copy paste the katakana in any case, right? :p

The video keeps crashing VLC whenever Hibiki’s attribute box comes up. Any ideas how to fix this?

  16. @Marq

    Yeah. Stop using VLC.

Yeah I was referring to the audio loudness more so than anything. My best guess would be that they didn’t normalize the levels of the main track after mixing the OP in or they just mixed the OP in normalized to a lower -dB value than the main dialogue/background track was. The latter would make more sense since the OP master is probably quite loud, much louder than the episode master would be.

So… after watching the episode, I do wish that finale is an Heaven’s Feel teaser. Boy would I like yandere Sakura in all her greatness =0.

A Heaven’s Feel anime by ufotable is my ultimate wet dream, but I don’t really think it’ll ever happen. : p If it did happen though, I’m not sure I would be able to handle such an ultra-high level of awesome. : p My brain might get fried! : p

  19. @Rokudaime

This is the closest you will get to your wet dream atm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd9uzndalT4

Hmm..using KMP with MadVR codec and LAV filters…seems to crash everytime the waitress intro scene plays at around the 2:47 mark I think..if I skip past the OP, the rest of the video has no problems whatsoever..this is with the 720p version..had that problem with Miname-Ke tadaima episode 1 as well..the part where Kana thinks of skipping school cos of results day..

The audio and the video for the SD are out of sync for me. Anyone else have this problem?[/b]

Having the same issue. Standard CCCP + Winamp player that runs every avi/mp4 UTW release just fine, but my audio is following the subtitle by 2-3 seconds. Any suggestions?

    @ Bob2.5
Thank you sir, that was some great 360p, 1:30m, high grade awesomeness *.*

    @ Rokudaime
Its not only to complete the series, but the fact that Sakura just disapears on the other routes (nop, not gonna acknowledge the anime filler part ) feels kinda off.
I love the fact that they took on a new approach to the story and quite simply because Sakura is awesome. I’d really love it if it was “over 18”, with all the crazyness, but as long as they make it, then I’m a Happy Pirate xD

  23. You guys are quite possibly the best Subbing group I have ever found.

Thank you for the hard work and taking the time to do so.

Two questions: First, are you subbing Fate/Zero Remix, and will you be subbing anything else with the Type-Moon Fes BD Box?

@ar: Assuming that I do drop VLC, what alternatives do you suggest?

  27. The “Date all” route was definitely funnier. I was hoping for a “nice boat” twist like they were sort of implying in the “Date main” route.

HF anime? Kiriyama, Ayako and Iri’s VA joked about it on a F/Z panel
Saber’s VA: “They can’t do the third season, ufotable will die”

    Smplayer + Mplayer2

use gl or gl3 as the video output driver

  31. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was praying that the day another Carnival Phantasm episode was released!! XD
You guys have my eternal gratitude! ^.^

  32. Can you share the script file from the Special Season.
I bought and ripped the title from the Bluray, but I can’t translate it, let alone scripting the whole thing.
    Thanks in advance. XD

  33. If someone wouldn’t mind seeding Carnival Phantasm, that would be awesome 😀 Really like Type Moons work and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could seed (please)
