Well, I for one, am not up-to-date – I actually waited for UTW release, because I don’t want to ruin my experience by watching less-than-best subs. I am pretty much fangasming over this anime like every 5 minutes or so, so I want the best experience possible, even if I have to wait longer for the next episode. Ufotable+TYPE-MOON in HD with UTW subs. There are some things that would top that, but not much.
I think I deserve that after what THAT OTHER STUDIO THAT ISN’T UFOTABLE did with UBW.
PS: I wouldn’t mind it at all if UTW caught up with the other groups though 😉

UTW so overrated it aint even funny. Dumb fanbois act like their subs are so godly when in reality it’s nothing special. Plus they take 2 years just to get one episode done, UTW is trash. Commie is the best fansub group for UBW. Gets it done on the same day + high quality subs. #dealwithit

I cried when the announcement was made that UTW would stop fansubbing. Although I’m happy beyond words right now, especially that UBW is being subbed by UTW… Give me back my tears!!! :DDD
@Zaiden: Your tears are warranted. UTW is not really back,they’re doing this BEAUSE it is their namesake show. And they’renot subbing it from scratch.

Mitsuzuri and her comedic trio were a surprise but all should be well. I remember in the VN Mitsuzuri had to skip a few days of school for an unknown reason so I bet they will go into detail with that this series. Most likely Shinji will have a play in it.
A few other minor details like the poster Fuji-nee hits Shirou with isn’t made of metal and how Shirou is made to be less of a wuss by arguing with shinji and shouting at lancer instead of saying it internally and locking up.
@Nachbar:I think the anime assumes the viewer isn’t dumb and would realize theposter is made of paper by the fact the poster had actually bended when she used it on SHirou so it obviously wasn’t metal, or strong. Plus there was the “tracing” spell he casted on it whhich was pretty obvious. Basically, just saying, an anime is not a tell and not show thing, unlike a VN an anime can work off visual cues and hints without having to tell you every frigging detail like a VN has to.
There were people complaining about them missing some internal monologues but I found them pointless complaints. Also, I like how they made Shinji’s posee much more politely.
So majutsu will be translated as “Magic” (does that mean you will change every “magecraft” for the 2wei batch too?). In case mahou will ever be used in this series (I doubt it), how will you guys translate it? “Sorcery”?

For the Kiritsugu and Shirou hospital flashback you guys worded Kiritsugus line “I’m a magician” and CR worded it “I’m a mage/magic user”. Which one is better? Don’t know if I like “magician”, sounds funny.
Mahou tsukai is the term for someone who uses True Magic, so magician is appropriate. It’s also a running gag in Nasu’s works, as both Touko and Aoko say that phrase near or inside a hospital.
@Mirage: Its completely fine with me too. I came across as critical but I like the change they added including the other one you pointed out. I agree it would be boring if they included all the internal monologue.
Mahou will be “true magic”, yeah. Raze already used that term in Fate/Zero if I recall correctly.

Are you going to fix Lancer’s line “If I use that move, it has to kill.” for the batch release?
You left out the “or I’m in trouble” part which refers to him revealing his Noble Phantasm, hence, his identity. What Lancer meant was that he will be at a disadvantage if he uses his Noble Phantasm and the opponent still lives afterwords. I find it a little weird that you chose to remove it from Aniplex’s translated script, since it’s neither redundant nor a mistranslation.
I appreciate the effort you put into this and I want to thank you for taking the time to do it.
@Fate/fan: They could,but it honestly is sort of redundant. considering the fact his identity WAS revealed by using the move, so saying it after the fact is pointless. If anything, the line after that more or less implies that he’s been ordered to retreat if he’s found out anyway. I imagine they thought there were too many lines referring to the same thing already.
Continuing from above and now talking from the audience’s perspective, the omitted segment doesn’t apply just to Lancer but to all the Servants in general. Specifically, it is used to showcase an important tactic when handling Servants on the battlefield. After all, episodes 00 & 01 are used to introduce the audience to the story of Unlimited Blade Works and the inner workings of the Holy Grail War. They carry that extra weight and should be treated with extra caution. That’s why leaving something like this untranslated is not a good idea.

Why “magician” and not “magus” UTW? Weren’t you using magus in F/Z?
mahoutsukai != majutsushi. Mage is to magician as magic/magecraft (majutsu) is to true magic (mahou).
In short, it’s intentional because Kiritsugu uses a different word.
Could I get a response from you, Xythar, about the things I pointed out at #comment-162190 and #comment-162382? I would like to know your reasoning was, as a translator, when making that change. By the way, thanks for the effort you’re putting on this. I’m eagerly awaiting a UTW release for the next episode.

Fate/fan, I orignally suggested something along the lines of “If I use that move, it has to kill, or the cat’s out of the bag” for that line, but the TLC suggested just removing the last clause entirely, which I think is fair enough since “it has to” already implies that there’ll be consequences if it doesn’t. I’m not sure if there was any additional reason on the TLC side or not.

Well… Not watching a fate anime from UTW, especially unlimited blade works, is kinda stupid, so waiting appears to be the best option.
Glad to see you guys return to former quality on this, the sub on fate kaleid liner was kinda #yolo and #whatever but you seemed to have fun there at least.
