Sorry, we delayed for a week. Or did we?
This week, we’re on a blimp. Or maybe an airship, I can’t tell.
In other news, Yamakan not only ate the purple crayon, but he decided to personally intervene in drawing the dance scenes. He was inspired by gLee. Oh, and I made my first blog post. Hooray!

    Greetings UTW, love your subs!
I wanted to provide a heads up that the DDL #1 URL requires fixing, a tag is part of the link url.

  14. Thanks for the new episode!

  15. Couple of small corrections/suggestions:
2:16 – appendages -> appendix (note plural to singular as he’s only speaking to one person)
    2:18 – [as above]
2:34 – reigns -> reins (reigns is a verb unrelated to ‘taking the reins’) in which rein is a noun.
3:51 – We’re the ethical ones -> We’re the ones with justice on our side
    3:52 – Ethics -> Justice
7:43 – People don’t normally blend in so easily. -> People don’t normally adapt so easily.
7:46 – Unlike a certain pervert. -> Unlike a certain flighty someone we know.
9:49 – That one is your favorite, isn’t it? -> You like that one, huh?
11:32 – Wow, sex again? -> Wow, hooking up again?
    19:00 – Don’t generalize like that -> Don’t spout half-baked theories.

Thank you very much for keeping us up to date on this series as well as subbing this series altogether! THANKS!

  17. They’re getting high off of the helium

  18. @nagumo
The correct plural of appendix is appendicies, appendages is an incorrect word.

Is there going to be the B Gata H Kei BD batch, or what?
arEdit: It’ll be done when it’s done, when Raze has time to do it. Geez, we haven’t forgotten just some of us are busy with other things.

  20. @Bob
Appendages is in the script, and is not consistent with the Japanese. Also, the person is being spoken to in the singular, so the plural is irrelevant. Finally, the plural of appendix is appendices, not appendicies.

  21. Moshiburner on February 18, 2011 at 7:10 am said:

2:16, change to singular is valid, but appendage = appendix. argue with the American Heritage Random House Dictionary if you disagree.
    2:34 valid
the rest already convey enough info from the original dialogue while sounding like plain english, except maybe 7:43. suggestions are fine but prepare to have them ignored, since we don’t really want to argue over the subtle superiority one version of a line holds over another.
and no, this is not implying a v2.

  22. @Moshiburner
Just to be clear, I’m not picking a fight or anything, I’m just making suggestions based on the text I used to remux my preferred diction into the file for archiving.
As for appendage vs appendix, the dictionary definition is the same but the vernacular usage is different. The original word is ??, which is of course similar to ???, so the immediately obvious translation is ‘extra’ or ‘freebie’ or something like that. But given the speaker’s prior statement about not having a reason to keep him aboard, appendix is a better fit not because of its dictionary definition but its derivative anatomical one – an extra bit that hangs out (in the body) and isn’t useful for much, which is the normal vernacular reading an average viewer would probably hit on first. An appendage in casual parlance usually refers to a limb (arm, leg) which is obviously worth keeping around and is therefore inconsistent with the statement which precedes the line of dialogue in question.
The rest is not that important, though I did find the line at 11:32 jarring (with the granny smiling on in the background) as the sense in which ??? is used is euphemistic – if he were trying to be as blunt as ‘having sex’ he’d just say ??, and even this is a euphemism.

  24. Hello, UTW!
Even if this has no relation with Fractale, I’d like to ask for a favor. πŸ™‚
Summer Wars is already out with the english audio available. Could you please, please release an audio track (AAC/FLAC) that can be muxed with your already-existing 720p (or 1080p) releases? It’d be a great favor to us fans. If you’ve got the spare time, please consider it. Thanks! πŸ˜€

  25. tormaid on February 18, 2011 at 9:37 pm said:

Solution: Buy (LOL, or rent) the US BD. Extract English Audio in the format of your choosing. Mux it yourself. Profit.
Alliteratively you could just demux it from one of the >9000 dual audio releases already out. (http://www.nyaa.si/?page=torrentinfo&tid=194720)

    Thx a lot!

  27. What was the meaning behind them changing his loincloth from white to red. I tried to look up the meaning behind it but couldn’t find anything useful.

  28. Kurausuki on February 18, 2011 at 11:11 pm said:

Maybe it’s just me, but the whole appendix vs appendage argument was over my head until read out in that paragraph. I don’t associate in my mind normally that appendix is anything OTHER than something in the end of the book. My bad American English upbringing or just general area could be the cause, but I found appendage to be somewhat appropriate for the meaning in this episode. O.o
Again, maybe its just me, and I can honestly say I learned something new regardless.

  29. Good to see that Fractale is back. Disappointed with the LK link. I got bored of this vid a long time ago… Lol.
On another note, to please Raze, Misaka ftw? πŸ˜›

  30. @Kurausuki, on quite the opposite “side of the fence”, the usage of “appendage” made no sense to me. I kept thinking “why would they consider arms, legs, fingers, etc to be disposable??” Appendix thus makes more sense (as it’s indeed one of the few “useless” parts of the human body) to me in this context. I hadn’t even consdiered about a book’s “appendix” though, heh. Confusing indeed!

  31. Thanks for the timely release! Though I’m also slightly miffed by the white to red loincloth.

  32. @tormaid
I can do that, kind sir. πŸ˜€ It’s just that I’m not sure it syncs perfectly ._.

  33. I just realized this, but the dude is doing Johnny Bravo’s dance.

  34. I hate the art of this anime so much…

  35. An ‘appendage’ by definition is a secondary part that is attached to the main part.
I believe what ar is getting at is that by definition, the appendix is an appendage. Although, as Nagamo pointed out, it is an appendage of the intestine. You would not discard just any appendage, such as an arm or a finger, although the vermiform appendix (or ‘appendix’ for short) is one such appendage that can be cut out and discarded without being missed.
I was a bit confused when I saw appendage used and assumed he meant to say appendix, which would make more sense in that context.
Regardless, Nessa is love! And I love love! <3
