I have faith in you, Silver Crow! You can totally beat this frail butterfly girl!
As you might have guessed from the website banner, we’re not dropping Accel World. I haven’t seen the Viz release yet, but I enjoyed working on this show, and I’m sure we can do better 😛
There’s no more preairs starting next week, so our release might take a bit longer, but we’ll definitely try to release within 12 hours of airing. Also, I’ll continue blogging about it every week, so stay tuned!
NB: For anybody having problems rendering the title at around 2:20 with VSFilter + MPC-HC, we recommend updating to xy-VSFilter, this should play it better. We will make it lighter for the next episode onwards though, so weaker PCs don’t struggle as much. Alternatively you can drop this lighter script in the same folder as the mkv, and have it load as external subtitles. It should be more subtitle renderer friendly.
You guys should use the K-timing by LeonHo, it’s fantastic
Keep great work 8thSin and all UTW |Staff!!!
Thanks! Digging this show so far.
yay
Thanks UTW & 8thSin! Downloaded and seeding. 🙂
I miss your Saber Lily banner.
Thanks for this release.
Love the banner, keep it up.
Regarding the screen cap.
First Turn: Black Lotus, Taiga. Sac Black Lotus for three green, cast Channel. Tap Taiga for red. Pay 19 life for 19 colorless mana and use the one green floating to cast Fireball for 20 damage.
Old school first turn kill FTW.
Awesome. We’re in for quality releases after all. 🙂
Thanks! 😀
Well this 12 hour release work with Fate/zero too?
Thank you guys! Have been waiting for your release all night.
Thanks for the episode!
don’t overwork yourselves
Yay!!! I believe you’ll do a great job subbing this show. Thanks for not dropping this show.
UTW over whatever other subs any day. quality over hastility i always say
For fuck sakes guys seed this shit!
543MB?
Thanks a lot for the release, but please don’t start overdoing it with the file sizes.
@4987y3249ir
It comes out whatever size the episode demands, there’s no way I am re-encoding to make something smaller if it comes out big.
Can anyone explain the steps to make title not be funky, after downloading the xy filter what do I do?
@danuchiha99
You need to locate vsfilter.dll on your system (windows search should be able to find it), and replace it (copy over) with the vsfilter.dll you extract from the xy-vsfilter zip.
Thanks a lot, I like this show..
But man, that fucking sign in the OP kills my PC, it’s probably the first time I’ve ever had a problem like that. I’m using xy-VSFilter.
JOY!
Thanks so much for episode 2! AND THE ALL THE ONES SOON TO COME!
I LOVE YOUR SUBS!
NEVER STOP DOING THAT VOODOO THAT YOU DO SO WELL!
did that pig…. did that pig just get himself a mahou-shojo transformation scene?
@Anonymous
See the bottom of the post, try using the linked lighter version script. It’ll be sorted for the next episode anyway.
If whoever did the Anonymous 8-bit re-encode last week reads this stuff, it sure would be great to have those every week. This is one series with some impressive visuals that deserves a quality 8-bit encode. While the Xvid releases are nice for those who need it, the HQ 8-bit is still where it’s at.
YES BEEN W8ing for like a week best show ever Ty for the ep u guys are the best
>.>
<..<
thanks UTW and 8thsin 😀 will seed meticulously 😀
500mb for a 10bit file? God, I’d hate to see how big this anime is when its 720p/8bit.
Did anybody else notice that they used the music from the flash game ‘Pandemic’ in this episode, from 7:20 to 7:40? For reference: http://youtu.be/zOLU4__ZXfQ
I want to know more!
Thanks for the episode. 🙂
Good work, this show seems very interesting.
Fantastic subs and awesome anime.
Thank you!
Looks like I won’t k-time that ed even though I was planning to. English always makes it look awkward.
Cool you picked this one up, also I would like to ask if there are still plans to do the Tamayura ~Hitotose~ in BD or if the group decided to not do them? Since there was no update on it
Thanks!
Thanks for the xy-VSFilter. I’ve been having a few problems with multiple shows at times and this just fixed all of them.
Thank you for the SD release.
Patch to switch to the lighter script for HD, if anyone wants it…

@ar
This is very strange, I cannot find any other vsfilter.dll system in my existing system, save the one that I just extracted from the xyVSFilter rar file.
My search results does yields a “VSFilter Configuration” though, yet the file name for that is an application named “rundll32”, wonder if it has anything to do with that?
For the moment being, I’ve gone for the alternative solution and downloaded the lighter script .ass add-on to get around the problem.
Is DDL1 on the way some time in the near future…?
Anyway, thanks for the release!
Thank you as always for your wonderful releases! I hope you won’t drop this!
Thanks for subbing this UTW
One question, probabl to ar. When i start playing OP, i can see title typesetting only for less than second. Any reason why?
@Cealh
See the bottom of the post. I made it too heavy and there is a couple of solutions. You can safely ignore it though if its just disappearing, it’ll be made lighter for the next episode or you can drop the downloadable script into the same folder as the mkv and it should get loaded as external subtitles.
xy-VSFilter does nothing and i found why very soon. Is because is not even the power of the PC the problem as you guys claim to be, i check it while checking the CPU at the same time and it got all glitchy while the CPU still showed only 13% load. Usually when some extra subs create load and the PC has a hard problem playing them smoothly it shows the CPU load jumping to 90-100% and having a little problem to get unstuck but with this thing nothing like that happened. Congratulations you managed to create a unique problem that manages to glitch the player but without actually having anything to do with CPU load.
Well i found the problem. Whatever you did puts load on the memory instead of the CPU. The memory requirements suddenly rise by 1.5 or 2GB. After terminating a few other programs that used memory it played just fine so the problem is obvious. So to anyone who has problems just close your browser or whatever other thing you have taking memory and it will play.
@Whatever
I have no idea how to take your comment because this is the internet and sarcasm is clearly lost as a result, but it renders fine on my system and other peoples systems too. So if it doesn’t work for you then either your cpu isn’t fast enough, or you aren’t using external vsfilter, or god knows what else.
What I did manage to accomplish was using ~1gb of ram for 2 seconds of subtitles, and that in itself is a worthy accomplishment. Not that it was intentional of course, it was something noticed by someone else after. I have 8gb of ram on my system, so I don’t really notice changes in memory consumption that much. It is just vsfilter using a lot of memory for caching I imagine.
Edit: And glad you found the solution.
@ar
Really thanks for quick answer!! I’m ashamed that i didn’t check comments before, i’ll be good boy next time 🙂
Glad to heard that, thanks for the release,Keep it up UTW! 😀
Thanks! 😀
The h264 file kept pausing and playing in the op for me :/
Sometimes it was just the sound that went away, and came back.
(MPC)
With cccp.
Thank you 🙂
To people who have problems installing xy-vsfilter:
It doesn’t actually matter, if you replace the original vsfilter.dll with the new one, as long as you use the command prompt to run regsvr32.
To make things even more simple, create a .txt file (with notepad) with following line:
regsvr32 VSFilter.dll
put it into the same directory as the vsfilter.dll and rename your .txt file into a .bat file, then double click on the .bat file to execute it.
For those who use MPC-HC and don’t notice any difference between before and after:
make sure MPC-HC is configured to render subtitles at the lowest possible resolution. If the video’s subtitles have low resolution afterwards, it means MPC-HC is NOT using xy-vsfilter.
Make sure “Auto-load subtitles” is deactivated in the “Playback” option.
Also: under “External Filters” add the filter “DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)” and set it to “preferred”.
If you’ve got memory issues with MPC-HC, make sure “Playback” -> “Output” -> “EVR Buffers” isn’t set too high (if it’s used at all). Frames are huge, especially HD ones.
Simply set the buffer to a desired value and test with a video (preferably 1080p), to see if it works well.
Personally, I recommend setting the buffer to around 10 – 20.
I hope this takes care of most playback issues.
Congratulations UTW. You officially made my PC stall on something with the default settings of CCCP+MPC. You deserve an award.
I have a 3930k OC’d to 4.5ghz, 16gb of DDR3 @ 1600, a 7970 OC’d at 1100/1500 and I was playing it off of my 128gb Crucial M4. That’s about 2,000 bucks worth of computer components and is currently some of the best hardware money can buy. I can’t believe I’m going to use something else to help play this. I think I’m going to go buy a big shiny trophy for you guys and mail it to whoever did this since I’m absolutely astonished that this could actually happen while playing an episode of anime.
Congratulations, H~
You officially made a 3930k @ 4.5GHz with 16 GB of RAM run slower than a 740QM @ 1.7GHz with 8GB of RAM.
If you do buy that trophy, keep it. You deserve it more than anybody else, because it’s absolutely astonishing to think that hardware is all that matters.
Your PC must be smarter than you are, because it’s 450 million times faster than your brain. Think about that the next time you complain about trivialities.
I just lol’ed at H~’s comment, just use MPC-HC + LAV Filters + MadVR since you have a good computer, that is if you know how to configure this, I have a E7500 2.93Ghz, 4Gb RAM, and an HD5770 1Gb with default clocks and it doesn’t even stutter or render badly… learn to read how-to’s properly and it will play just fine.
Awesome episode by the way xD This series is really promising.
You people are gods among men to be translating this anime. Just saying.
His comment is seriously a joke . Your PC Is officially smarter than you. Gratz
is this hi10p?
@Drano
Yes good sir, this is the software’s fault. My point is that I’m astonished that such software has caused such a bottleneck in my overall computing performance that it cannot render subtitles properly even with top end hardware. I made the comment in order to state my unbelief from the standpoint of a user using regular CCCP+MPC. And yes, I have redone my media player setup to maximize my performance. It’s just astonishing that an out of the box solution struggles even on such hardware.
There’s no need to get snotty with me, I’m just stating that from a casual user’s perspective this is quite a feat. If you want to argue over semantics and continue with the hilarious insults, please do. I’m waiting for your retort.
“If the video’s subtitles have low resolution afterwards, it means MPC-HC is NOT using xy-vsfilter.”
Thanks for this tip. All good now.
I had it ‘not crashing’ last night by simply not using xy-VSFilter, but the logo flashes on/off quickly. Can do this by unchecking DirectVobSub and checking “Auto-load subtitles”.
@H~
The days of default CCCP and full compatibility are over; now we have to play with external filters / DLLs. I miss the simplicity too, but this stuff is here to stay because fansubbers like the better capabilities / performance / whatever.
Thank you very much 🙂
I can’t believe that goddamn file also fixed my old problem with the Unlimited Blade Works chant in your UBW movie release.
Thanks a lot.
@H~
It’s good that you reckognize it’s the fault of your software.
Unfortunately for you, UTW doesn’t deal in software. They deal in videos with subtitles.
Of course we could argue that even a video is software, but we both know we’re talking about programs here.
Fact is: You’re complaining towards a fansubbing group because of issues caused by your subtitle renderer, which could easily be avoided if you installed the xy-vsfilter as recommended by said fansubbing group.
@pacanug:
In this case it would be “first turn, tap Black Lotus”. He wouldn’t have to fight her after that.
@Drano
You must be mistaking something here. I’m not complaining about anything. I’m just making a comment over an observation that I’ve had and that I think that they deserve an award for making a basic and out of the box setup freeze up for a second with top end hardware. As I said before, the problem was fixed with installing a separate filter but I was just making a statement over an observation that I had and I’m sure many other people had as well due to my very common setup. If you’re going to make condescending comments towards people, you should really try to take some time to infer what they’re saying before spouting off whatever comes into your mind. Jumping to conclusions lands you up in bad places, you should really learn that and take a minute before going off into an autistic rage at people who are simply commenting on their observations.
I assume that everybody that commented about the lag has read the entire release post. It happens every time. Just saying…
Right now CCCP and K-lite are fools for not adding in xy-vsfilter as the default subtitle renderer, CCCP especially. CCCP is even more foolish for not including LAV filters and madVR. I don’t know why they don’t want to do it, an out of the box solution makes life easier for the casual, LAV filters which boost performance and xy-vsfilter which reduces subtitle bottlenecking makes life easier, yet they don’t include it.
>2012
>people still using codec packs
Just get mplayer2, plays 10bit 720p fine with my crappy 9 year old computer.
@Rai: “Right now CCCP and K-lite are fools for not adding in xy-vsfilter as the default subtitle renderer, CCCP especially. CCCP is even more foolish for not including LAV filters and madVR.”
Don’t talk outta your ass. At the time of CCCP’s latest release, madVR and xy-vsfilter were considered not sufficiently stable for the average illiterate user. xy-vsfilter should be more stable since the release of 3.0.0, but CCCP has not released a new version since. madVR is experimental quality according to madshi himself; he has stated he’s concentrating on adding features now, not on fixing bugs, so yeah. Regarding LAV, get your facts straight; CCCP currently includes it. As for K-Lite, it’s shit and has always been.
@Drano
if i’m a codec-noob and half of your post is japanese to me so i want to ask:
this xy-vsfilter should resolve the problem i usualy get during op/ed where it seems the video lost frame? also if it install normaly whitout porblem it will work automaticaly when i start a video or i have to do something?
randomone, yes (by virtue of being faster), and yes (assuming you follow all instructions to the letter, including the dll registering part).
Thanks for delivering this show. I’m really excited since it seems to be pretty well presented, but mainly because my favorite band is working on the Soundtrack for this show.
So much thanks for this!
YES, thank goodness you’re not dropping this. I’ve been spoiling the story for myself by reading the manga and this absolutely deserves to be brought to the masses via UTW.
@H~
I’m not mistaking anything. You’re clearly complaining, even if you’ve not specifically stated it.
Don’t disguise your own mistakes by pretending, others didn’t read carefully.
Also, as I stated before, there’s no point in discussing the matter here, UTW didn’t do anything wrong, they even provided you with a solution called xy-vsfilter.
Since you’re proud owner of a monster rig, I assume you’re using it for games. Do you know the difference between a level and an engine?
The “level” would be the script made by UTW. It describes what the level has to look like using given elements.
The “engine” would be the vsfilter, without which your PC wouldn’t know what to do with the script.
Now the thing is: the vanilla “engine” you used previously with CCCP was poorly written, asking your PC to redraw the entire “level” every time a new frame was needed, and all of it in the RGB colourspace, so the “level” would need to be converted into YUV before displaying. Yet here you are, blaming UTW because they made a “level” that’s too complex for your PC to handle with the standard vsfilter, even though UTW provided you with an alternative “engine”, which draws directly into YUV and keeps the results in a buffer to fetch whenever the need arises.
Do you still want to offer that trophy to UTW? Why not sending it over to whoever wrote the original vsfilter, or better yet: why not just keep it?
^ That would be Gabest. And I wouldn’t send a stupid trophy to him, after all we have MPC thanks to him, among other things he coded or helped code. Still, I sure wish he knew how to make understandable code, since his shit is often completely bogus even to experienced programmers. Which is partly why we’re stuck with crap subtitle rendering in the first place, since libass is not precisely an option at the moment.
The problem is that the subtitle in this video chokes a default CCCP installation. Its not the first video to do so, nor will it be the last. Commie’s version of Accel World 01 had similar issues with the subtitles for the chalkboard.
I’d like to see a v2 fix for this, but it can wait till the batch.
Dear UTW Fansub,
I’m a member of VnS Fansub (http://www.vnsharing.net), a site for Vietnamese community to share manga, anime, and all kinds of stuff related to that.
I really enjoy your releases, i think you guys did a very good job. I want to use your releases to translate into Vietnamese to share with other member who can’t read English at my site.
Could i have your permission to use your soft english sub for my project? It is absolutely NOT for commercial purpose, just to share for free.
Of course your credit will be kept. I will make sure them appear at the topic and at the start of each of episode. Beside that, i would also gladly do everything else you want.
Thanks for reading.
Please answer me as soon as you can.
Etou…. Sorry for the repost T_T
I watched this release with no problems and on my laptop no less. For all that talk about a monster rig, H~ clearly doesn’t know his shit
The funniest thing is:
H~’s (and a few other people’s) rants don’t even have a basis to begin with.
They’re complaining about having to “install extra software”, even though the very fact that they can see the subtitles AT ALL means that they’ve already installed extra software, since VSfilter is neither part of Windows, nor Mac, nor Linux.
Careful there Drano, Logical thinking at that level may cause their brain to haemorrhage.
I’ve tried installing xy-VSFilter, but it does not work. I copied the file to both the System32 and SysWOW64 folders and then performed as admin C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\System32\VSFilter.dll” and C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\VSFilter.dll”
I then went to MPC and disabled auto-load subtitles. I set both at different times DirectVobSub and DirectVobSub (auto-loading version) on my prefered under External Filters. Neither one worked, I also tried both together and this also did not work.
I can’t see what I’ve done wrong here, can anyone help me?
I’m using MCP-HC 1.5.3.3975, with madVR and LAV Filters.
To those complaining about slow playback: it’s your own fault for still using stuff like mpc-hc and codec packs XD
Install smplayer2+mplayer2 package and stop worrying about codecs and subtitle renderers.
http://smplayer2.srsfckn.biz/min_install.exe
I’ve reinstalled everything and it appears to be working perfectly now. I’m using the most current build of MPC-HC, LAV Filters, madVR, Haali Media Splitter, xy-VSFilter and ffdshow for audio only. Playback is smooth. If anyone is still having problems try doing updating everything to the most current. Marika’s suggestion about smplayer2+mplayer2 isn’t a terrible idea I guess either, I use that on my Linux based laptop with no issues, not sure how well it runs on Windows though. Also Fate Zero seems to look a lot better since I updated everything which is a nice bonus, it looked great before, but even more so now!
Also I’m only running an old Wolfdale E7200 @ 3.5GHz and 4GB of DDR2 running at only 1066MHz(DDR) with a GTX260, so anyone with issues on a much more modern setup shouldn’t be having any issues with playback if setup correctly. If you have trouble with older dual cores, then you should really just overclock them a bit, they tend to get a lot better overall when you clock them over 3GHz. I had trouble with some 1080p 10bit encodes when my CPU was at it’s stock speeds.
Actually, if you guys is satisfied with using the standard WMP (for windows users) like me, the combination of LAV Filter, Haali Media Splitter, and Direct VobSub has done a great job for my i3 notebook with 2 GB of DDR2 using onboard graphics card from Intel. No problem whatsoever, though I had to tweak it here and there a bit to find the correct setting…
i don’t know how well xy-VSfilter works with madVR+mpc-hc+LAVfilters… does it interrupt the 10bit precision?
From the site of xy-vsfilter’s dev:
> Input/Output support for 10-bit P010 & 16-bit P016 4:2:0 YUV formats
> > Requires: madVR video renderer and a video decoder which supports P010 or P016 output to use this optional feature
Does that answer your question?
thanks Drano.. seems like i can safely use XY-VSfilter then
wonder if the developers behind both MPC-HC and XY-VSfilter will combine their code
For approximately one-and-a-half seconds of title logo, you have used over 1,500 subtitle lines. That’s gotta be some kind of record.
On a related note, thanks for xy-VSFilter! The performance difference is very impressive.
AD I am also trying to use: madVR, Haali Media Splitter, xy-VSFilter and ffdshow for audio only.
I have never been able to get any VSFilter to work with this combination. Can you please share what you did.
THANKS!
YES got it working! Just had to select prefer and then unselected the decoding boxes in madvr!
why it don’t works ?
he was’nt want to download
