This week we have a new world and some Alfheim action.
We translated the name of Asuna’s dad’s company as “Recto” last week when it’s actually “RCT” according to this week’s video, so ep15 will be fixed accordingly for the batch.

リーファ… Yes it does translate to Rifa but until we see it on the her menu screen we would never know cause Japanese pronunciation of English name is always a little off like RCT as Recto…

I’d prefer Lyfa as her name though. Sounds more Scandinavian/Norse… or at least just more fairy-like
since the word tree is called Yggdrasil(Norse) anyway. consistency in setting

  29. That’s weird, I swear I remember seeing Recto written somewhere in the anime.

  30. Hi guys, can someone explain to me about SEEDS in torrent, what if the seeds is 1,000 and the leechers are around 1,200, will my speed get slower? im new on torrents.. thankyou

  31. Please, for the love of God, use Lyfa. “Rifa” just sounds wrong.

  32. Marelt on October 21, 2012 at 7:01 am said:

@Baka… Supposedly, it’s better to have as many seeds and as few leeches as possible. However, in practice, I find that as long as the torrent has at least a handful of active seeds, it generally works fine. On highly used torrents, such as UTW’s releases, there’s a good chance that the speed of your internet provider will be the limiting factor before any torrent math comes into play.
Anyway, I’m somewhat ambivalent towards the whole Lifa/Rifa thing, as neither of them sounds particularly Scandinavian. Fun fact… In Scandinavian languages, the “y” is pronounced as an “uu” sound (which doesn’t really exist in English. The “u” sound in “nuke” is probably the closest comparison). As such, “Lyfa” would sound completely wrong.

  33. The fighting scene feels a bit lackluster, or maybe it’s because I have read the novel.

  34. Just use the novel’s spelling “Lyfa” people wont complain if its the same as what BT used for the novels.

  35. just wait until there’s showing status / HP bar to know rather Lyfa or Rifa. Rifa is pronunciation of Lyfa in japan language

I suppose I’ll be impatient on this one and see if my computer can run the HD version for once… Really curious to see what’s going on in this new Virtual realm. (Did not read the manga)
-> Also from reading the comments: Methinks it’s time to go smoke me a Rifa.

  37. Guess we will have to wait for an HP bar shot to figure out the Rifa/Lyfa thing
But A-1. . . why take the time to have the “He knows my playername!” flashback only to show him put in Kirito in english again? In the LN he changed it to “キリト” from the romanized form he had in SAO. Unless they did and UTW just translated it lol

    Thank you!

  41. nice, the only critique i’d ave for now is that the novel points out how Spriggan-kirito has darker skin than normal, and the anime made him just as pale as he is IRL for some reason…

  42. Yes! i ve been waiting for this ………i hope SAO would extend to many more season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. I don’t know why, but this Style for the Opening is really awkward … plain white and black outline chaning outline to blue … That’s kinda ugly.. First I thought the Font is missing and it’s Arial because of the color which kinda makes you feel like that.

  44. Olexijl on October 21, 2012 at 11:26 am said:

It should be Lyfa, not Rifa… Please fix that in next episodes. I just wait to confirm this officially.

  49. Soukyuu on October 21, 2012 at 12:26 pm said:

Going by the novel, the company name is written in Katakana as ≪レクト≫, so it’s certainly not RCT as it would have been ≪アル・シー・ティ≫ in Japanese/Katakana form.
As for Rifa vs Lyfa, I’m biased after reading the BT version of the novel, and from what I remember, they all used Katakana for their names, so a screencap won’t help.
Considering the setting of the game though, it should at least be Lifa, especially if as Marelt said “y” doesn’t sound anything like “i” in Scandinavian. Rifa reads just plain wrong… (I know, I know, no L in Japanese, yada yada)
Speaking about batches, the typesetting for the episode title is a little wonky on all episodes so far, if you skip past the opening (next chapter), the line doesn’t display.

  50. Soukyuu on October 21, 2012 at 12:31 pm said:

Ahh.. correction. Only the SAO arc has the episode title problem, ep 15-16 are fine.

  51. lol 10:25 “Alart” . I know its not your translation.

  52. @Soukyuu Japan generally doesn’t sound out its english acronyms letter by letter. (SAO and ALO are exceptions here.)
Earlier in the series they showed Asuna and Kirito in english text.

I know she said “error case program”, but I think the wording could be improved to “error [correction/detection] program”, because “error program” sounds awkward (well, to me).
    Yeah, yeah, minor nitpicking…

  58. Soukyuu on October 21, 2012 at 2:38 pm said:

@ergZay: in SAO, they used romaji-only usernames, in ALO, they use katakana.
As for sounding out the acronyms, they do. But usually if it’s an acronym you have to sound out, romaji is used. So in this case, the novel should have had it written as “RCT”, not “レクト”… am I making sense?

How do I fix the shuttering song lyrics?

  61. JokerGist on October 21, 2012 at 3:37 pm said:

@Fireisfriendly I do not have any subtitle problems, so I recommend, that if you don’t already, using CCCP (combined community codec pack). I tried K-Lite once, it sucked and had way too many options. CCCP uses the exact same Home Media Classic player as K-Lite, but it’s much more streamlined, plus it works right away, K-Lite had subtitle issues which I saw immediately, meaning I would have to configure stuff in that overly stuffed options menu :P. If you try to stream 1080p video, you will need to set the EVR buffer to 4 in the playback tab in the options…but that’s the only problem I’ve had.

  62. man00ver on October 21, 2012 at 3:57 pm said:

Thanks very much to the groups! 🙂
This episode confirms for me that they’re going to do a good job adapting this part of the story

  63. Fireisfriendly on October 21, 2012 at 5:54 pm said:

@JokerGist Can you show me a picture of your settings for CCCP. I use CCCP, but still have subtitle problems for the opening and ending song

  64. ergZay on October 21, 2012 at 7:30 pm said:

@JokerGist and @Fireisfriendly, both of you need to look at the sticky topic on this website. CCCP is not the problem, vsfilter is.

  65. Can someone clarify what the “batch” is? I just started visiting this site a week or so ago. I saw in the notes for this week’s episode, it said that so ep15 will be corrected to read “RCT” instead of “Recto” in the batch.
I can deduce that the batch is a file containing all episodes, so perhaps it’ll only be up when all 25 episodes have finished airing, just wanted to understand.
    Thanks!

  66. Kazeto on October 21, 2012 at 8:37 pm said:

    @Silas:
“Batch” is the torrent with all the episodes at once, with all the ones that got changed in any way getting a “v2” (“version 2”) so that people will know something got changed.
So you got that one right. In this case, that is – for different things, “batch” might mean different stuff, but when it’s about downloading things it’s pretty much always a “combined” download.

    dayum kirito. what a player.

  68. JokerGist on October 21, 2012 at 10:08 pm said:

@ergZay Not entirely true, I tried K-Lite with the newest vs-filter and it still had shuttering. CCCP is better.
@Fireisfriendly I left most of the settings along, only things I changed is under ‘view’ ‘option’ ‘output’. I have the EVR buffer on 4, resizer on Bicubic A=-1.00 (PS 2.0). Then yeah, as ergZay said, make sure you have xy-VSFilter 3.0.0.65 installed, then possibly try using Icaros 2.0.0 adding the file extension .mkv in the list thing.

  69. Thanks for the subs! 😀

It’s going too damn fast… they should have made 24 episodes for SAO and 24 more for ALO.

  72. Chocobo on October 22, 2012 at 12:16 am said:

The hell with RCT.. Recto is the correct one! and also who da hell is Rifa.. The correct pronounciation is Lyfa know..

Thank you guys so much for your hard work.
Any chance of an AVID ddl for this episode? My laptop is under repair and ny tablet doesn’t do torrents well. Thanks in advance.

  74. I don’t think he Rifa vs Lyfa thing is very important. Since there is no official translation of the novels, maybe the people from baka tsuki simply translated it differently.
It is hard to translate from 1 language to another, specially names. There are multiple ways to translate how something sounds. I think both Lyfa & Rifa are right, but if the anime production team decided to use Rifa instead of Lyfa, UTW should use Rifa.
It might be annoying for those who have read the light novels from baka tsuki. However, it would be a good decision to use Rifa for the anime translation. Think about those who only watches anime, it would be confusing for them to read Rifa in the anime & Lyfa from the translations.
What I just said only applies if the anime team is using Rifa.

  75. @Kazeto
Thanks for that clarification. Now then, my second question: the “batch” torrent, is that something that’ll only be up once all 25 have been translated?
Is the batch currently available to get all the previous episodes?
    Thanks!

  76. littleogre on October 22, 2012 at 1:32 am said:

@Vic: It is probably not the case. We will only know when am HP bar or something of the sorts appears, but I can safely bet it will be written “Lyfa” or “Lifa”,

  77. Kazeto on October 22, 2012 at 2:46 am said:

    @Silas:
More or less. Usually it is made a few days after the last episode has gotten translated.
And no batch for SAO yet.

  78. Cynthia on October 22, 2012 at 3:42 am said:

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how many episodes do you post per “batch”? I’m asking because I’d like to download the version where the typo gets corrected before I forget that it needs to be redownloaded.
Also quick personal question for you. Do you have a program that allows you to watch TV in Japan live, and if so where can I download it?

  79. Oh boy, if a four letter two syllable name like Rifa/Lyfa is causing so much argument I shudder to think what would happen if/when the Alicization arc gets animated. Those who read vol 10 know which character’s name I am talking about

  80. Progeusz on October 22, 2012 at 8:19 am said:

    She looks like Miki.

  81. I can play with K-Lite/MPC-HC, by setting Sub pictures to buffer = 0 in Subtitles option. My computer is old (~5 yrs), so setting resizer to Bicubic kills the audio.
I normally use K-Lite/WMP to play the videos anyway, no problem so far.
    (xy-Filter installed by the way).

  82. Kazeto on October 22, 2012 at 3:40 pm said:

    @Cynthia:
The answer is “all of them”.

  83. Well, I really hoped for more. The battle scene’ animation it’s just patetic .(_ _). they fly slowly wtf?
    +1 to Lyfa
    +1 to RECTO
    °w°
P.D. even in the LN illustration Kirito never get he’s skin darker. (to someone that comment that :3)

  84. Kazeto on October 22, 2012 at 6:45 pm said:

    @Nihil:
Well, it was supposed to be darker than his usual pale skin in the novels, but the illustrations don’t really show that and there is seldom anything about it (because it’s from Kirito’s perspective, so there is just an off-hand comment).
But seriously, I don’t see why would that one be a problem for people.
And the same about names – while personally I’m for “Lyfa” and “Recto”, like due to the bias from having read the novels, I can see why would they translate it differently (though, honestly, I think that the first one is derived from “Lifdrasil” and thus likely is “Lifa”; whatever, Japanese people trying to write in Norse gives weird results)

  85. Zerreth on October 22, 2012 at 6:54 pm said:

I have NO idea why you people are so hung up on believing Baka Tsuki who may or may not have as strong of a grasp of the english language as the Japanese do (which means to say they both suck). Lyfa is more likely to be read as “Lie-fa” as opposed to the extended “ee” sound used in Japanese.
It would be better to run with a bunch of safer translations and then find something that matches the japaense. Rifa is equally a terrible idea and if some of you people are so hung up on wanting the spelling to look Scandinavian, then you should’ve suggested “Leifa”as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leif_Ericson
It’s honestly scary how some people don’t take translations with a grain of salt.

  86. Kazeto on October 22, 2012 at 7:17 pm said:

    @Zerreth:
Well, it has something to do with how Baka-Tsuki guys have a translation that makes any amount of sense and now people who had read the novels expect everyone to follow their translation. I pretty much highlighted that when I wrote that my preference of their translation comes from the bias of having read through it first – it is easier to watch an adaptation of something if it uses the same names as any related works you watched/read before that.
Buy whatever; since we don’t know what is the name supposed to be derived from, we can only speculate what the name is supposed to be (I do agree that “Rifa” in this case does sound unnatural and even just changing “R” to “L” would likely had made it less so, though).

  87. @Kazeto:
I don’t think it’s a problem at all, just that someone writhe it in the other page and I don’t remember the name XD

  93. Kuroharu on October 23, 2012 at 10:14 pm said:

Could “Alart” be reference to good old Eva?

  94. @Kuroharu:
Not really, it’s just Japanese animators using a language they don’t really know. Take a look at system texts in Accel World for an example – most words aren’t really “wrong” there, but the mix of them that is used to form sentences results in wonky things sometimes, and some sentences don’t make much sense in the context (gotta love the “Are you really strong?” “Yes”/”No” one from the penultimate episode).

  95. I’m not sure, “Alart” may be something of a running joke, I’ve seen it in several shows, one I can remember off the top of my head would be in one of the Kore wa Zombie OVAs.

  96. @billy bo bob. 100 episodes? You must be crazy. Very few studios will even attempt to go over a two season anime anymore. Also I am confident that 9 episodes will be enough to finish up to the end of Fairy Dance. Fairy Dance (even though it is two volumes) is significantly shorter than Aincrad (V1). Aincrad had 25 really beefy and long chapters. While Fairy Dance only has 9 (they’re pretty beefy too, but clearly less).

  97. Kohiro on October 24, 2012 at 2:43 pm said:

@Rai. As I posted somewhere earlier that they’re no longer need to rush or chop the story anymore it seems they can do each arc in 12~14 episodes.
@billy bo bob. Given that there is 10 books of LN and 13 episode for 2 books each it can only get up to about 65 episode for all of SAO as is of now (unless there is going to be an new book 11) so there wouldn’t be 100 episodes… sry.

Hell, even Queen’s Blade wasn’t that bad in comparison.

Okay, everyone kinda needs to chill about the whole Rifa/Lyfa thing. Srsly. Baka-Tsuki’s is in NO way the official English translation of the light novels; their grammar is atrocious more often than not, there are inconsistencies in character names between chapters (Cline/Klein), and numerous other issues. Just because they did it first doesn’t make it canon.
In Japanese, the letters ‘R’ and ‘L’ are largely interchangeable, from an English POV (just like the letters P/B/V). Japanese vowels only make one sound, and multiple vowels next to one another are usually pronounced individually. Furthermore, all proper words in Japanese end in a vowel or the letter ‘n’, so a lot of times an extra sound (typically an ‘o’ sound) is added to foreign words.
The better question would be whether her name is supposed to have the long “ai” sound (represented by Baka-Tsuki’s use of ‘y’) or the “ee” sound (as used in this episode). (Kinda like in the dub of the first Fullmetal Alchemist, Hawkeye’s name was (improperly) pronounced “Raiza” over the second FMA’s use of “Reeza” (which was accurate)
In any case, until we see her name spelled in Romanji, we won’t know for sure, so relax. Her name will inevitably be changed in the Batch when the series is done to compensate, just like the whole Yoruko/Yolko thing from the ‘Inner Area Incident’ episode.
Out of curiosity, did people throw a fit when UTW/Woots chose the spelling ‘Agil’ over BT’s ‘Egil’, or ‘Lisbeth’ over ‘Lizbet’? Or calling Asuna the Vice-Commander rather than Sub-Leader?

  105. @Ashandarae just wait till character status bar appeared in the episode. as we seen there’s only 3 character using japanese ( Kirito, Asuna, Kuradeel ) Rifa is still better rather than CR with Leafa =w=

@man00ver It’s not, Alicization Arc is planned to have 5 volumes so Alicization Turning is the 3rd of 5 volumes. Can’t wait til it comes out.

A bit disappointed with how they did Leafa’s fight. When I read the LN, I got the impression the speedholic Leafa moves like Tallgeese or something. I guess I just expect too much.
