Unlimited Translation Works

This is (not) an announcement

It seems pretty obvious that most people found my project update post distasteful. I apologize for that. After realizing that some of our project updates are buried in random threads with dozens, if not hundreds, of comments, it was obvious that we needed an actual post that provided people with updates on our projects. Please note that this post will (possibly?) be updated if things turn around. So for now, it’ll be marked as a sticky.
I want to make it very clear that with this post, no one should be commenting on the status of our projects in other posts anymore. This will result in your email and IP being marked as spam and you being banned indefinitely. I’m sure you understand where the frustration comes from, so I won’t bother to explain. Just know that, if UTW picks up projects for winter and we find comments asking about a project listed below, said person will be banned.

Let’s start with blu-rays and batches:

  • Until further notice, consider all blu-ray and batch projects dropped.

Next up, currently airing TV shows:

  • Fate/stay night (UBW) is currently stalled at TLC. There is no estimated time of release. This is due to many real life situations currently going on, and we will be releasing it as soon as we can. Further updates will follow.

Moving on to SYD:

  • Seitokai Yakuindomo * is dropped

And Chu2Ren OVA: The Rikka Wars:

  • Stalled at typesetting. No ETA on this. Just waiting for a miracle to happen.

And finally, upcoming projects:

  • fotc made an announcement for the upcoming series Cinderella Girls. Whether or not this is pursued is based on the staff working on that show. For now, consider it picked up.
  • Any other projects will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hopefully, this has been extremely informative for everyone. If I missed anything, feel free to include it in the comments and I’ll check up on it. Please also keep in mind that not every project shares the same staff. Thus, those who want to work on something else, are not necessarily the ones who are stalling the beloved animus.

Am I the only one who saw that progress bar update and just had a good laugh? Seriously guys, don’t be so touchy, that was funny. I’m still checking this site every day for the next episode, but you don’t see me whining in the comments all the time. Most of us here are content to just sit and wait. We just don’t post about it.
It’s obvious from the staff members’ posts that they’re still working and making progress and that they do want to finish this series, so stop acting like they should close down just because they’re behind. And they aren’t keeping us in the dark at all; ar said in the post for the first episode (or second, depending on how you count it, I guess…) that they were slowsubbers now. As in, “it’ll get done when it gets done don’t expect it right away”. They already told us exactly what was going on, and in a proper post no less. The comments now are just reiterating information we were already given and forgot about. Anyway, different members of UTW work on different projects. For example, Kusion is the Raildex and iDOLM@STER guy, so it’s only natural that a) he’s not posting much when those shows aren’t airing and b) that they get posted regardless of other members’ projects. It’s completely seperate from the UBW project. Which, again, is information they’ve given us repeatedly. This new post should not have been necessary.
To UTW, thanks for putting in so much of your time and effort for us. The vast majority of us are perfectly happy, but how many people ever call customer support to say “everything’s working fine!” ? Sorry about the whiny 1%. Just keep doing what you’re doing. There’s a reason people are upset about the possibility of the end of UTW; you guys were and are the best subgroup for a long time, and we’ll always be grateful for what you’ve already done, even if you were to just quit now.

So just gonna say: Thanks for everything! I wish you guys all a very merry Christmas and happy new year!
Now go fucking get drunk live it up and come back here all happy and wanting to sub dem Chinese picture show thingies.

  11. @anon
Pretty much this. You had a good run and it’s time to close up shop. Continuing subbing at this point is doing more harm than good, both to you and your fans. Please realize this. Do you want UTW to become a running gag like Maria Holic was with Commie? Because that’s where you’re headed.

  12. @Blue
Commie’s running Maria Holic gag was great though. I fail to see how nobody could appreciate that.

I understand, you’re frustrated. But what you need to understand is that while you claim that their continued work is “doing more harm than good” as if that was the general opinion, people with that viewpoint make up a very small minority of UTW’s fanbase. Please realize this.

Again, although you may not think much of it, simple status posts like this are truly appreciated.

  34. Hi, can someone upload Fractale 06-08 ED-Fix Patches please TT The link is dead

  35. @Naru
    Nobody has them anymore, sorry.

  36. Why not recruit people and have the veterans of UTW tutor them? That way, you can teach people do encoding, fansubing and everything else better. It also doesn’t take too much of the main team’s time if what they have to do is just verify. Forever, you could have whoever does the TLC look after one or two guys work and see if it’s good instead of doing things from scratch.
And the newcomers don’t even have to do everything. You could just make them unclog some freezing projects to get things moving better. Then before you know it, you’ve trained a bunch of people and have them become part of your main team. Of course, some of them could split from the team but if it was under good terms you could have future cooperation.
Fansubbing seems to be dead. It’s not just you guys, other groups seem to be lacking. I think there are people willing to help but they are too clueless to do so and just need a push. What I am offering isn’t going to make UTW pump new releases every night, it’s just to help fansubbing community as a whole and UTW has the talent to do so.

  37. We’re not really short of people to do the encoding, timing, typesetting, etc. What UTW lacks is translators, and you can’t just teach someone to translate. As I mentioned on the other post, finding a translator that meets UTW’s standards is very difficult.

  38. I appreciate what you guys at UTW do and have done since the beginning! I don’t think you should be under any obligation at all to provide project status updates.
    Thx

  39. @Adam
You’d be surprised at how long verifying encoding takes, actually. And encoding isn’t really something one can just teach, it takes a lot from the other person too. They have to be willing to do a lot of learning on their own.
Most of the veteran encoders took years to learn and most learned a lot on their own, and just picked up pointers as they went along. Most didn’t start from scratch, the ones who did are still kinda learning after all these years. For me, I could just encode myself because I lack the free time to spend verifying other peoples works.
Typesetting can be taught, but even then not many people make it past a series because they realise how much hard work it can be.
And as Xythar has said about translators, you can’t just train them, you basically have to find someone who is already quite experienced, and these don’t come around very often at all. Also, turns out all the good ones end up studying to be doctors, w.

  40. Adam Greene on December 16, 2014 at 12:01 pm said:

Are you guys recruiting any positions atm?

  43. leo@uhw on December 16, 2014 at 5:25 pm said:

I used to typeset and translate for a Spanish fansub group. They’d rip English subs instead of getting a Japanese to Spanish translator.
They didn’t last long. I’m plenty good at translating Eng -> Spa, but since the Ja -> Eng translation already lost some “sense” to comply with proper English language rules, the resulting Spanish translation was utter shit as it had to comply with proper Spanish language rules.
And I’m not even mentioning I was the only one doing any typesetting… for 6+ different shows every season. Cutting corners wherever I could just for a release before the next episode happened was not my idea of “quality.” And yes, even though the timing was already there from ripping the English translations, some sentences required either more lines or less lines depending on context. THAT was super fun.
The woes of fansubbing. I’m sympathetic to how UTW staff feels about it all, and I can say I don’t miss fansubbing one bit. Specially because people are rarely grateful about it all.

  53. @Jaybird Youtube is a good place to start. There are at least thousands of videos on how to encode and create avisynth post-processing scripts.

I do believe you needed an “Ever” not an “Even” in that sentence. Now stop stealing English, motherfucking TLD/Gary.
Ever heard of unfair or unjust laws? Just because they can litigate something in a way they like does NOT make it right or even correct. If I recall history correctly there was a time that LAWS said the Earth was the center of the solar system. Guess what, no amount of paper pushing made it so. But I guess a Polish, Nazi dick sucking faggot, wouldn’t understand that.

Those junior high school student thieves you talk about? We indeed pirate a hell of a lot of stuff. For example: The last time I paid for a shitty movie was during the last century. But you know what. Movies that I or the people I live with genuinely like. We buy those or go see them. It’s called honesty and integrity. Something that as you said. Even a foul mouth, snot-nosed, shitty junior high student has more of then you and your entire kind put together. You shitty little disgrace of a snail shit in humans clothing.

I’ll end this on a good note. Thanks for the very cheap laughs and getting my consort worked up. Likewise thanks for the compliment of calling me an underage school girl. Eh, I actually agree with TLD on one point. Intellectual, data, whatever you want to call it, it’s the product of somebody’s hard work which enriches our lives. They deserve to be compensated for that work. I will not attempt to justify my own theft by talking about tyrannical corporations and freedom of information. Tangible or not, software is legitimately copyrighted, and that law is not at all unjust. No, when I steal, I don’t bullshit about it. I’m a thief, and a brazen one at that. It’s criminal, reprehensible, and objectively wrong. I will not argue against that, because it’s the truth.
    But.
That does not apply to this. Those corporations, as well as those creative and hard-working people, have already distributed it for free, and continue to do so as we speak. They want us to have it for free, and it’s legal to get it for free. The only difference between getting my anime from UTW as opposed to CrunchyRoll is the subs, which are UTW’s freely-given work and not anyone else’s intellectual property. By torrenting UTW’s subs, I am not breaking any laws, I am not refusing to pay anyone, I am not stealing from anyone, and I am not doing anything wrong. This isn’t just right, it’s LEGAL. And not legal in some runaround technical way. Simply, objectively, inarguably legal. So, TLD, if you want to rail against pirates as the thieves we are, feel free. I will not oppose you, because you’re not wrong. But do it to the thieves, not the fans of UTW. We are literally not doing anything wrong here, so your criticisms are unwarranted and, frankly, unintelligent.

    >Software.
Back in 08 I decided to upgrade my rig. Got Win Vista (legally) for I believe $400.00
The thing was just defective. They (Microsoft) knew about it too. Turned out it was my fault for installing it on a new PC?! that WAS approved by MS but (I) the user wasn’t. The problem was SOFTWARE not hardware or relating in anyway to me (unlike what customer support wanted me to believe) I’ve NEVER financially supported MS after that again. I refuse to hold myself to a saintly standard when dealing with (legal) thieves.
As for movies. I do buy the ones I like. But I’ll never blindly buy piece of hype ever. roughly 80% of the movies I’ve seen I will never give a cent for. Because they are trash. The people who “worked” on them don’t deserve to get paid for them. I thank piracy for letting me be a better consumer.
As for BD of anime. They are so jokingly hyper priced that it’s not even funny anymore. Yes I steal anime. I make a point to buy the very best of a year’ offerings. Three to four out of five stars go in the I’ll buy it when (something) list.
Am I a thief, yes. Are they priced honestly. I wager my ass no. Are we all in a moral gray zone. You bet your ass we are. As such I refuse to play the role of money cow for defective products (MS, I do use the bastards’ offering…too damn convenient. But I do see a day where Linux will be on top), Poorly written over hyped movies aimed at the lowest lowest common denominator but marked as “stipulating” “deeply moving” or “masterpiece”. Or BDs priced like the Voyager spacecraft’s golden disc. I will continue to refuse to be brainwashed with the “piracy is bad” jargon that is so popular with the corporate elites.
When the laws are written blatantly wrong on false foundations. Being “white” a docile supporter of a system gone wrong is [in the eyes of history] the real crime. I don’t blame the greedy oligarch for being who they are. They are not 100% EVULZ bad. They are however far from 100% pure good and true. I will treat them with the same pragmatic attitude they treat me with. “They are my resource” nothing more nothing less. I will not be swayed by rantings of “morality” or “laws” that apply only to one side while the other side (buys) a free pass to just at least try not be clear criminals. I will not be a marketing department’s slave nor will I ever give money for any (media) I am not 100% satisfied with. With that in mind. If one steals from a thief. Is s/he also a thief? If one lets him/herself get robbed was s/he in fact robbed or was just giving charity? I’m not so nice to give charity to corporate bloat. Nor am I so naive as to think anything less then 9001% pure is wrong.
And with that. After only 3 hours rest, It’s of to work I go.

Let me ask you something. Suppose you go to a restaurant. Everyone has been telling you it’s great. It has five-star ratings across the board. So, buying into the hype, you go eat there.
The food is terrible. Sure, it’s edible, but you could have eaten better by spending five bucks at the supermarket and waiting for your microwave for 30 seconds, as opposed to the fifty bucks it cost to eat this slop. So, after eating the terrible food, you’re brought the bill. Do you refuse to pay it?
It was trash. The people who “worked” on it don’t deserve to get paid for it. It was poorly-made, over-hyped food aimed at the lowest lowest common denominator but marketed as “delicious,” “mouth-watering,” or “the finest cuisine”.
Do you refuse to be brainwashed into thinking you have to pay for it just because you ate it? Will you refuse to be a docile supporter of a system gone wrong? Will you simply treat them as your resource?
You and I both walked out of that restaurant without paying a cent. The difference between you and me is, I don’t pretend I was justified in doing so.

Funny you should bring up an example like that. Me and Beer have been in that exact situation last year for our anniversary. We drove to Canada thinking something along the lines of romantic getaway. We did splurge on a few things. Five star restaurants one of them. One of them was down right disgusting. The glasses were dirty. We mentioned this to the waiter. The wine was watered down grog from the dollar store. We endured that. We ordered the house special (sea food) we got something pretending to be peking duck made out of turkey. The menu was in English BTW.
We didn’t eat it (we did try it) It was not fit to feed to a hungry dog. I’m talking parts were still raw others were burned. We demanded to talk to the manager or whomever else was in charge. He looking at us like idiots told us that the menu we had been given was last weeks. How was that out fault? The duck was the last they had in stock and we were lucky to get it at that price (300 Canadian dollars).
We refused to pay for it or demanded they bring us what we ordered at good quality. Clean glasses, properly cooked meat. The whole nine yards. They refused and threatened to call the police. We took them up on that offer. After waiting 45 minutes with the very unprofessional manager no police came. I think they actually did call. I actually during the wait asked for what ever they had that was stronger in terms of alcohol. Whiskey it was. I paid exactly half of what they put on the bill for the whiskey. Anyways, after forty five minutes wasted and no police showing up we left without paying one Zimbabwean dollar for that god awful duck.
If you ask me. We were fully justified. Regarding what you said in your above example. It’s not like I don’t agree with you to some extent. But, yes a customer in that situation is justified to not pay.
Here are some key differences between a pirated movie and consumed food.
After I eat a piece of food it’s gone. Killing one chicken only gives so many drum sticks.
After I watch the movie, it’s still there ready to be watched again.
In eating the food I (pay special attention to that “I”) used up a resource. It’s gone forever now.
In watching the movie I in effect did not waste anything beyond electricity and HDD life. The resources used to make it were already used, not by me. As to will or won’t they bring a profit is a calculated gamble.
If it’s truly good then I after watching it will want to pay the studio for that masterpiece. I will throw my money at the artist for making it. If however it’s bad, but I watched it. What exactly did I use up that is now lost forever, besides my own time? I didn’t go to a studio and commission them to make me a movie. I watched it without so much as one DVD or BD needing to be stamped just for me. So now after watching it. I hated it. It’s trash, I don’t feel guilty for that “work” going unpaid for. Especially more so since I had nothing to do with using up any resources that went into making it. That food fight in the film…could have fed so many hungry kids in Africa. But hey, I didn’t commission it and I certainly won’t feel guilty for the waste I didn’t order but was offered to me.
Now let me ask you this: If clothes were sold in black boxes with only “commercials” and “critics reviews” to go on. You go to a store wanting to get a pair of comfy jeans. You pick a box that says it’s just right for you. But when you put them on, try as you might they do not fit you. They are anything but comfy. Plus since you opened the box and tried them on you are now bound by law to pay for them even if you didn’t dirty them at all.
Do you agree with that system?
Stop feeling so down about “walked out of that restaurant without paying a cent” you did the right thing. Stop deluding yourself otherwise. Or if however you truly think it’s wrong then maybe you in fact did like that food/movie/whatever. If so then pay for it and stop acting jew.

  98. *Because they are trash. The people who “worked” on them don’t deserve to get paid for them

I’m afraid I don’t understand. What’s funny? Please clarify. If you expect to be taken seriously, you must respond to counter-arguments in a comprehensible fashion.
    @GenerlisimoTsundere
Well, that particular situation is a bit different because you did not actually get what you ordered. If you order expensive, high-quality wine and get “watered down grog from the dollar store”, or order peking duck and get turkey, the restaurant has broken the “contract.” You agreed to pay X dollars for peking duck. If you got turkey, you aren’t obligated to pay for anything since you didn’t order turkey. I don’t know anything about Canadian law, but American police would have sided with you on that. Had you been given rotten or raw duck, the same principle applies, since the implication of ordering food in a restaurant is that it will be edible and non-toxic. Again, the law backs you in that case. If, however, you are served peking duck in edible condition, whether or not you like it is irrelevant. You got what you ordered, and not paying for it would be wrong. If that weren’t the case, anyone who tried something new at a restaurant would not be obligated to pay for it if they didn’t like it enough, even if it was flawless and simply didn’t match their taste.
In short, what happened to you differs somewhat from my hypothetical. I agree with you that in that case you were justified in not paying, but my previous point stands nonetheless.
As you say, there are a few differences between stealing a movie and stealing a physical good. First, it’s a whole lot easier, but the inconsumable nature of a movie or program is much more relevant. That said, this difference is not as significant as you make it out to be. After all, you agree that some things which are not consumed still deserve to be paid for, yes? If a movie is good, you should (or rather, want to) pay for it, even though your watching it didn’t consume anything. That is what you said, isn’t it? That being the case, being something which does not deteriorate and is not consumed doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be paid for when used. And if that’s true, what does being consumable have to do with whether or not your enjoyment decides whether or not it should be paid for? You acknowledge that both consumable and permanent goods are worth money; why is that truth conditional for goods you don’t consume?
Well, there’s a reason clothing stores always have such flexible return policies, but that’s beside the point. You’re right, I wouldn’t agree with that system. But why? For the same reason I gave about the restaurant. If I pay for pants which are “in my size,” the contract breaks down as soon as they aren’t. I have not been given what I agreed to pay for. If, however, I pay for pants “in my size” with no further stipulations, I have no right to complain when they turn out to be hot pink.
When you see a movie (for example), you go into it with the understanding that you might not enjoy the movie. You’re paying the see the movie of name XXXXX. There is no mention of whether or not it’s good. As the providers of this contract, the ones who distribute the movie define it. If you don’t like the contract, you simply don’t participate. You don’t see the movie. Seeing a movie is a gamble on its quality. No one would argue that you shouldn’t pay the casino when you don’t win; the risk is inherent in the contract.
I understand, you don’t like the contract. You think it’s wrong. That doesn’t matter. As the consumer, you don’t have the right to define the contract, only to decide whether or not to agree to it. By taking that power out of the hands of the distributor, you deprive him of the rights he had when he purchased (or created, as is the case with internet piracy) that movie, without which he would not have done so. That is the wrong we commit: trying to reverse the contract rather than simply reject it.
As a final note, many advocates of software piracy claim that they will pay for those things they pirate and enjoy. A few of them even do. That still doesn’t make it right, but either way, those people are by far the minority. Personally, I couldn’t even afford to do that; I pirate what I want but can’t afford. There could at least be an argument for software piracy if everyone thought of it the way you do, but they don’t. 99% of us are “acting jew.”

Exactly! That is actually the base of my belief. Please note the “want” as opposed to a “must”
I actually, for all my cynicism, do believe that people have a natural goodness to them. In this case you feeling guilty about not paying proves my point.
I however find it evil that the copyright laws permit the fining of people for hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars for what at worst is petty theft. As such I will side with piracy over copyright laws (as they are now) any day. The playing the victim that so many studios do and lobbying if not plain buying laws, in truth disturbs me. It can all too easily lead the opening of a Pandora’s box of laws and regulations that lead to the creation of something resembling North Korea or “The Corporate States of America” I will agree that my thinking may be a bit far fetched, but diligence is key for having freedom. If a situation will inevitably lead to victims. As does piracy (or playing victim) I will let the side that has less to lose, can take the hit without sustaining unreasonable damage and allows society to move in a direction that gives most benefit to the most common wo/men.
With that said. Studios, sorry you gonna have to be in more risky waters. Make good movies / get cult followings you’ll be ok. Make too much crap (or let idiots run things) and well, you’ll sink.
Now if copyright laws didn’t claim that pirating a movie/ software / music / combination of ones and zeros on your HDD is worth more then the price of that one copy. I’d agree with you more. They don’t. They make pirating out to be this big bad evil boogeyman that ruins lives, destroys creativity and is probably a curse made by North Korean shaman. At least that is the kind of damages they are going with.
In reality how much did they lose from pirates. Lets say Joe Never Gonna Buy It pirates a movie. In effect they lost nothing. Now lets say Joe Would Have Seen It Once pirates it. They lost one sale tops. Now what if Joe Only Pirated It For Fun likes it and decides to buy it thanks to first watching it for free via pirating.
For us to further this conversation in a truly logical manner we need hard facts regarding these Joes. I have none. But seeing as how piracy is very widespread yet movie studios are turning a profit. I am inclined to take the pirates side that at least enough people to sustain the business do buy what they pirate. I’m one of them. Certainly I don’t pay for all I pirate. But I do for the titles that truly moved me. The rest, well, thanks Robin Hood for giving me the chance to try on the pants before I fork over the cash.
Regarding resource usage. I’m a bit old fashioned. I believe in taking responsibility for using a truly tangible resource. If I come to a movie studio and commissioned them to make me a movie (assuming I have that much money) I’ll be sure to make sure everyone will get paid for that work. If the movie is not what I wanted then the blame is with me and whomever it was that I let screw up.
Now if a studio makes a movie and offers it to me. I’d much rather live and will fight for a society that lets me sneak a peek before I spend. The copyright laws as they are are far too exaggerated of the damages pirates cause without even exploring the idea that piracy may be helpful.
Now it’s time for me to start breakfast. I’m actually a pretty good cook xD Then watch some backlog (all pitated wahahaha) and do some writing for my hobby / part time job. Then quality time with my lady 😉
Thanks for the conversation Turtleman579. I do understand where you’re coming from but purely on moral grounds choose to side with defending the greater public then making sure studios get 150% out of everyone who walks past a theater.

Yes, I suppose in this case it’s just a CrunchyRoll edit. A really good one, but an edit nonetheless. So? CrunchyRoll’s subs are offered for free. On CrunchyRoll. So once more, who is being stolen from?
    @GenerlisimoTsundere
I’ll certainly have to yield that. Copyright law penalties are grossly exaggerated. Probably because they’re more intended for the distributors than the downloaders, but the effect on downloaders is too great. Still, if the penalty for stealing a soda was execution, it wouldn’t make stealing the soda right.
I also have to agree on the rather dilapidated state of the law due to wealthy lobbyists. And if piracy could fix that, I would have to consider it morally right. But it can’t. It doesn’t actually help the problem, and so gains no moral ground for the unjust nature of the laws. The laws are wrong, but the piracy is also wrong.
I’d like to thank you as well. Intelligent conversation on the internet is so hard to come by these days. …But while I’m flattered to be counted among “intelligent people,” I did just repeatedly confess to a crime on a public website which has probably recorded my IP address. I’ve been wondering: How come you don’t have blu-ray sub files available for download?

Hey, I get this is probably not the perfect place to ask, but where I could best find out about normal practices for hosting things and so on? Where hosts you, do they have privacy policy, how they are with copyright notices, kind of information?

    @someone
Just download the files and demux the scripts yourself.
Also, to anyone who just wandered here, some of the information in that post is outdated. UBW is currently on schedule, SYD* is still dropped, and Cinderella Girls is at fuck knows.

No, it’s not. Watching the show on CrunchyRoll means that you visit their site, which increases the site’s interest. When you watch anime on CrunchyRoll for „free”, you are shown ads. The ad company buys ads on a Web site based on its interest. When you don’t watch anime on CrunchyRoll, the money from the ads is lost and CrunchyRoll, as well as the studio, lose the income coming from the ads.
Even on public TV, every anime has part A and part B, which when shown on TV is intersected with ads. They are the major source of income for the project. The sales of DVDs/Blu-rays are not as important as ad money.
The most money is spent on ads. Creators sign contracts with publishing companies, because they take care of the advertising, which costs a fortune. The hardest part in being a creator is getting your audience to know your work even exists. Even harder to get them to spent their time on your work. If you’re lucky, then maybe someone will like it and pay you for it.

Also, I want to say that ‘fansubs’ are not fansubs anymore and it’s not because of reusing translations, not because of ripping retail releases, not because there is Crunchyroll now. It’s simply because the ones who sub nowadays are not ‘fans’ anymore.
What fan in their sane mind refer to the product they are a fan of with words like ‘shit’? Is ‘shit’ a word of praise nowadays? I visit forums and comments once in a while and I don’t see any converstations about the episodes. No one talks about the story. No one discussed possible outcomes. No one is interested in the people that create those things. I see no one who has anything to say about the series they watch other than whine that it’s ‘shit’. Why do such people even watch it is beyond me.
I agree with an opinion that fansubs died when people switched to BitTorrent for distribution. Back then, I visited a channel, a forum, or some other place where we TALKED about Japan, about Japanese culture, about the products of their culture. What interested us was not the anime, it was Japan as a whole. People discussed how to get a job there, how do people live there, how to draw in their way, etc.
People today only care about the final product. They don’t care one bit how it came to be. They are regarding creative works in the same fashion as consumable products coming out of a production line. They don’t seem to understand the difference between producing a repeatable good, which is produced day by day in the exact same way, which can be taught, and a creative work which is product of the mind that occurs pretty much randomly.
People also expect to be given high-quality products and only want to pay for those. It’s like they don’t understand that if they want high-quality products, they need to support people that make low-quality products, so that they can improve, gain the experience needed to make the high-quality good. High-quality goods don’t come out of thin air. Ero-anime for example, has low quality, because no want to support them. There is no money to make a better product. If no one will pay for the current low quality animation, there will be no such animation at all. You do not pay for the product, you pay to support the production of new products. That’s the main reason software is switching from selling products to be service providers and to subscription models.
