I just saying if you just gonna do what the official does, then I might as while go to Horrible Subs. But, as always; Thank You for subbing.

Who translated this? I’m not even up to the opening credits and the TL is subtly, insidiously, and completely wrong. Wrong in such a way that no-one would pick it up without knowing Japanese, and so be easily led to believe completely incorrect things about the characters and story.
Seriously, not even 90 seconds in, and the dialogue between Atalanta and Achilles is all incorrect. How did this pass? I swear this group’s standards used to be much higher.

  29. SomeoneWhoIsGrateful on July 24, 2017 at 6:46 am said:

Thanks for the subs. All these idiots are acting as if whining will get the subs out any faster (unless they want the subtitles to be rushed).

Could you guys not fuck up the characters? Is every single line Astolfo spouts (that’s not exposition) going to be some kind of joke or pun?
    @PAnZuRiEL
I know, right? Fansubs have since devolved into an exercise in creative writing. They think that “adding character” gives them creative license to write whatever the fuck they want. It’s nothing more than an act of self-gratifying masturbation and in this analogy, the show is their used tissue. They actually have the gall, the sheer audacity, to think that their writing is better than the show’s. It’s insulting. It’s disgusting. It’s abhorrent.
It pains me to see such a great group fall. I honestly don’t understand how or why it happens, but eventually, groups turn liberal. Guess we needed Trump after all. (Now THAT’S a pun.) The sad part is, 99.9% of people will use their subs for the BDs because they’re fansubs and are thus automatically better than the official ones. Their Illya subs were mind-bogglingly repugnant and everyone still eats that shit up.
Thank GOD fansubs are dying. I’ll pay good money to support translators who take pride in their work. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

    How incorrect is it?

  40. “Thank GOD fansubs are dying. I’ll pay good money to support translators who take pride in their work. Good riddance to bad rubbish.”
If only a paycheck meant that people automatically cared.
I am still BLINDINGLY FURIOUS about the incompetent cock-gargling hackjob Viz turned out for the Accel World series, a translation that tried to scrub out all traces of computer and fighting-game terminology in a series that is 90% computer and fightining-game terminology. It was tera-suck. I own BluRays that I can’t stand to even look at of one of my favorite shows, because official translations are just as hit and miss as unofficial ones.

How about you take that shit idea and shove it up your ass? Just shove it straaaaaaaaiiiiiittt up your ass and fuck it really good. Even if these translations are pure fucking ass (which they are from what I have seen), anything is better than “official” translations, which most of the time are anywhere between ‘liberal’ to downright fucking rewritten. The exact same things you are complaining about here. I have yet to see any “official” translations that are so vastly superior to a fansub’s translations that it’s worth it’s weight in salt.
It’s bullshit translations like this that I have lost all faith in fansub groups but it’s also people like YOU who make stupid bullshit claims like you just said that are also wrong with the English translated anime that gets released to the West. More and more, we are seeing a dumbing down and liberalizing of translations so the Western audience can consume it because they are fucking lazy pieces of shit that need to fucking kill themselves because they are nothing both goddamn mouthbreathers without an iota of intellect to even remotely try to learn anything beyond what’s in front of them and have their hands held because they are too stupid to understand that their whole world is a lie. There’s a reason why more and more people are jumping ship from English “translated” JRPGs.
I was legitimately happy to see UTW back again but with fucking shit subs like this, I’ll have to dig around for the best RAWs until the BDs come out.

  42. DmonHiro on July 26, 2017 at 8:33 am said:

@PAnZuRiEL: What the heck are you talking about? What exactly are these “errors” you claim to be in the conversation between Atlanta and Achiles?

  43. raidragon on July 26, 2017 at 12:18 pm said:

@Dracom Zang Watch raw then? Why are you here and downloading this work anyway? Your japanese is so good that you don’t need sub right?

  44. 4tkoij on July 26, 2017 at 5:10 pm said:

    @DmonHiro
First line: Can’t we stop him somehow, Rider? -> Do we have no choice but to leave him, Rider? (あれは見棄てるしかないと思いか?)
Second line: Do you really think he’ll just walk away if we ask nicely, Sister? -> You’re a strange one for thinking you can convince him, Sister (説得できるとおもてあんたのほうが変わり者だぜ、姉さん)
I could keep nitpicking about the 4th line and so on, but that’s not really necessary. They’re mostly scattered infrequently throughout all 4 episodes. My Japanese isn’t perfect but the subs seem like someone just ran the text through 6 different translators and mixed and picked the best combination.

Hm, those examples sound like a liberal edit job but the original meaning is still intact?
Of course there might be examples where the discrepance goes further than that.
    Feel free to post them?
(I admit prefering the official/stream service Illya translation as well as it was more literal .)

  57. There are offical translations?
Can i get a link for it?
I`m russian translator from SRteam, and ur sub rly suck, sry but “Engarde” ??? Arigato = “God bless you” ????????? And a lot of other.
    Pls. Stop this shit.

Good job with making your group look bad and I hope that you get dropped from that group because of you shit talking other groups. Seriously unprofessional.

People trying to point out “wrong” translation are probably the worst. It’s a good thing that a translator does not translate things literaly, it’s wrong and retarded and sometimes can do realy bad things. I’m glad that UTW translators have a time and creativity to edit some lines to not sound like baby’s first translation but real, professional work.
We realy does not need another bullshit like the “I love you” scene from Love Live! Sunshine that thanks to too literal translation completely ignored the original meaning of that scene and makes yurifangirls go nuts everywhere.

I have great respect for your fansubbing. Translating is more difficult than it may seem, especially when one puts in the effort to make the dialogue sound like natural spoken English.
People are so used to the awkward, mechanical translations that sometimes the obviously-Japanese sentence structure doesn’t seem strange. So when a subbing group comes by that can actually see those problems and addresses them, some people push back against that. Sadly, those viewers can’t even recognize a quality translation when looking at it.
Great job, UTW. Thank you for translating this.

Read this transcript of the dialogue and decide the quality of UTW’s translation for yourselves. Note that my translation here is not something I would put into subtitles without first cleaning up. I am only trying to convey the meaning of the original text as clearly as possible, without worrying about the form of the target text. Some of UTW’s subtitles clearly fall into the realm of “decisions” and others are clearly “errors”. I flatter myself that I know the difference.
    Atalanta: あれは見捨てるしかないと思うか、ライダー?
Do you (still) think we have no choice but to abandon him, Rider?
    Achilles: 説得出来ると思っているアンタの方が変り者だぜ、姉さん。
You’re the strange one for thinking you can persuade him, Sister.
    Atalanta: 我が名はアタランテだ。姉と呼ぶのは止せ、アキレオス。
My name is Atalanta. Do not call me “sister”, Achilles.
    Achilles: 親愛を込めての呼び名だ、気にしないでくれ。……まっ、せっかくだ。黒の連中の顔を拝んでおこうぜ。
It’s an epithet filled with affection, don’t be offended. Well, this is a good opportunity. Let’s pay our respects to the Black team.
    Atalanta: よかろう。だがあやつが宝具を発動させたら、直ちに撤退するぞ。マスターもそこまで強いることはあるまい。
Very well. However, if he (Spartacus) is made to invoke his Noble Phantasm, we will immediately withdraw. I doubt our Masters would demand more of us.
    Achilles: マスター、ね。……姉さんはマスターの顔を見たことあるか?
Master, huh? Sister, have you ever seen your Master’s face?
    Atalanta: ない。私が会ったのはセミラミスのマスターである神父だだ。
No. I have only met the priest who is Semiramis’s Master.
    Achilles: パスが繋がっている。命令も伝達される。だが姿だけは表さない。異常な状況だよな、これって…
The Path is in place. Orders are also transmitted. But only (Master’s) form isn’t revealed. These are definitely abnormal circumstances…
    Atalanta: されど魔術師というのは、隠れ潜むのは道理だ。臆病とは思うがな。
Be that as it may, concealing oneself is common sense for a mage. I do find it cowardly, though.
