The Rihoko arc begins, and it already looks like it’ll be a cute arc. I personally enjoyed this episode. The ED was completely painless to transliterate this time round and not bad at all, although it sure didn’t sound like Rihoko was singing it.
It’s a wonder how Rihoko seems to be happy considering how everyone constantly makes fun of her for being fat and ditzy. As Manaka says in the episode, “Poor girl”.

  7. I’ve been curious about Rihoko’s arc for a while now – she seems to be the heroine with the least amount of attention out of the bunch, even in the various manga and doujinshi out there, so I still haven’t quite figured her out yet. Looking forward to seeing how things develop.

  10. after the sae and kaoru arcs, i was pretty sure nothing would beat morishima’s arc…then came nanasaki’s arc, which was awesome. hoping rihoko will deliver.

  15. why don’t they make a full arc for the yandere stalker Risa Kamizaki rather than a short ova…I’m quite sure it will be more interesting than the main character arcs.

  24. I’m mainly interested in the seiyuu behind Rihoko’s voice, Ry?ko Shintani, as she voiced Hidamari Sketch’s Sae, my second favourite character of that series =D

  28. Enjoying the episode so far, but I just couldn’t ignore this one line…
    [spoiler]At the 9:40 mark Rihoko’s friend says, “But why do you starting a diet again?” I don’t know Japanese, so all I can do is take what the subs say and try to make sense of them. I can see two ways to write that sentence. “But why are you starting a diet again?” “But why do you want to start dieting again?” (I’m thinking the later due to the flashback to the “stuck in the fence” scene.) Hope that helps.[/spoiler]

  30. You know what, I really like the idea that they gave the most realistic asian girl in a matter of appearance, ie brown hair, a little round and getting worked up about diet, the most unrealistic setting, ie a childhood friend who is also clumsy to boot, lol. It’s genius!

  33. They made that a cute episode, although they made her more fat and clumsy than necessary. I understand that the way they did it will give a better contrast to the other arcs and finally I will likely be fine with it, but I may have even more liked it, if they had found a way around that and had provided some other interesting story.
    I know, I may well just demand too much while the episode actually wasn’t bad, rather even good, but I didn’t have the perception of Rihoko being fat in the first place, just a bit more hungry, which was not a turn-off. Now, they made it look like she had an actual weight problem instead of just having upper normal weight.
    To summarize, although I might have liked another approach better, I actually cannot really complain about the episode either, because it was quite entertaining. Thanks for subbing it, UTW!

  53. Instead of hailing you and this series with praise, I’m going to complain…you know, just to mix things up 😛
    This episode seems to lag a lot when I play it on Zoom Player, and none of your other episodes do that for me, were there any issues aside from the grammar fail you pointed out? Might just be that my computers getting too old for this crap, but other episodes don’t do that (I rewatched Ai’s arc waiting for this one to start :P)

  54. That was a nice episode 1 for Rihoko’s arc =) I do wanna share some random thoughts I had about this episode!
    Episode Critique:
    [spoiler]I really wished that the director didn’t include the extra little clip showing Junichi prying wider the hole in the fence, as I thought it completely broke the nice feeling and rhythm from just the implication shown earlier, which I felt was clear enough already and shows Junichi in a more refined light, which is suitable as this episode did sort of put more focus on telling the story from the heroine’s point of view, and it was established early that Rihoko had long since developed feelings for Junichi.[/spoiler]
    Random Comments:
    [spoiler]Manaka Hiba of the Tea Club’s speech reminded me of the style of speaking of Tiamat from Shakugan no Shana 😛 Overall a very affable character created in Rihoko, and also, I believe that the voice of Ry?ko Shintani in the ED song is probably closer to her natural voice, but of course I can’t prove that… but I can assure that it really is her singing there, and I recommend Hidamari Sketch for anyone who’s not convinced, haha~[/spoiler]
    Thanks to UTW for continuing to produce awesome fansubs! Now I shall wait for a Rihoko banner… if the Nanasaki fans don’t kill me, first XD

  55. Meh to be honest I think rihoko is fugly with terrible hair and a severely unattractive personality. I would never give her another look in real life. Nanasaki Ai was 1000 times better.
