I don’t have a wall of tl;dr to blog about this week, so I’ll keep it short and sweet. Victorica’s fake laugh is just awesome, and when she rocks the detective pipe she is just too cute~
The ED has 4 english (sung in engrish) lines at the start (that were there last week but muffled by the ship) and they are pretty damn tough to make out properly. First three lines we could figure out most of the words and filled the gaps, last one not so much. It could be a few things but w/e it’ll be fixed with the official lyrics when the ED is released.
If you have any actual good suggestions as to what they might be feel free to share as any more time spent will probably result in hearing things that aren’t sung!
Enjoy this week’s thrilling tale, Victorica and the Ghost Ship.
Update:
Episode 3 will be released sometime today. Probably when I wake up because the new raw isn’t finished encoding yet, but the XviD is done. lol~

1. ‘ve been waiting for this
thanks

2. She’s very cute.
BTW, will you continue using cr subs, or you plan to make the translation. I know you talked about it last post, but just to be sure.

Thanks guys!

4. @nsen
no point on redoing something that is already well done — talking about the script itself not the video quality

5. i can’t believe CR translations for this show is nicely done, anyway i rather stick with this group than those [Derp] that have a horrible video quality incomparable to what ar is capable of producing, as for the subs, there really is no big difference and i think the one ar uses is better.
anyway, thank you very much, this really is my favorite of the season. ^^

6. Hi and thank for the release πŸ™‚
I think the end is:
Lonely nights… Fighting back again, seems to be like it never ends
Give us hope, through the love abyss, moon shine on me

7. @Jay D. yeah I read that on a bunch of blogs but I’m pretty sure there’s no abyss.
It’s kinda something like:
Gave us hope, though the labyrinth is no shadow of me

8. Herpderp on January 17, 2011 at 6:32 pm said:

How come it takes you that long to release this? Didn’t you say you were using the CR script and just tweaked some stuff? And of course mux it to a 720p raw. Lol.

9. I did it for my own fansub, it took like 1hr lol, its really hard to hear but I think it goes like :
Long enough fighting back again
Seems to be like it never ends
Give us hope, through the love abyss oh shine on me
I had to slow down the last line in mpc-hc to hear it correctly but abyss is in the sentance

The missing lyric is the preamble to the US constitution… lol er… actuarry I have yet watch it… lol

Actually, because you can’t really understand it and because you’re going to fix it when teh official lyrics come out, you should just insert teh most ridiculous thing you can possibly think of, it’d make a nice little joke for the time being until teh official lyrics are released…

Great quality all around. The show, the encode, the translation. YES, CR has good subs now, get over it. Victorica is too adorable. Also, Kujo better be careful, he’s getting a little too badass.

13. or maybe this:
Give us help through the labyrinths most random dreams.
its impossible to figure out!

14. From what I hear it’s what Jay D. LonelyWolf wrote, only that it’s not “moon”, but “ohhh”.

Im sorry I listened again and now I think it says

I would put a bet on it.

17. I think I’ll stick with y’all’s from now on. I tried derps since I used them before, but there were like 5-8 grammar or typo mistakes that threw me off. I don’t care if I have to wait a few extra days for good subs. Victorica is super cute.

18. good release
but >383
not related but i’m still waiting for the angel beats batch
19. weird but i cant see any subs on the hd version

20. maybe i’m slow. but one question i have to ask is, why is it labeled victorique instead of utw, if someone wants to fill me in?

21. at first when i saw this video, i still didn’t know what’s going on. but after finished it, sure i love this show!
Victorica surely is cute πŸ˜€

Just one grammar fail that I spotted, near the end..
It said “There ‘is’ many weapons… blahblah” haha
Also not related, any idea when you’ll release the rest of the B gata Blu-rays?
24. @Cat On their last post they stated that UTW wasn’t working on it as a whole, and it was a side personal project. That’s why the nametag isn’t UTW.

25. Reven_Krow on January 18, 2011 at 12:35 am said:

@Herpderp It takes longer to QC edit and fix the CR script plus get a REAL raw from PD that is why.
Its worth the wait for this kind of quality.

26. o, u guys didn’t put this on tokyotosho? I would of been dled it earlier.

27. @Herpderp
Some groups use PD/share pre-encoded raws (which obv means as soon as its available you can release) and others like myself for example encode from transport streams. Plus when I’m not doing speedsub encodes I can spend more time preparing the encode, take this episode of Gosick.
I spent 2-3hrs preparing the video for ivtc because I had the time to do it. The result is a better encode overall. Not that many would really notice but as much of the ghosting on scene changes and dirty frames have been fixed wherever it was possible to do so. I don’t typically do that for speedsub releases or at least not to this degree because time doesn’t allow it, but if time does or it needs then i do.
All up preparation + encode time for this show for me is typically 6-8hrs, that’s without even touching a script.

I agree with you, her monotone laugh is EPIC!
and she is doing Kazuya a favor.

32. Lonely night fighting back against
seems to be like it never ends
give us hope through the love abyss
moon shine on me
found this somewhere…
the guy who posted this seems to be 100% certain that its correct.

33. @Maid/whoever else asked
We’ll be subbing The Making of Angel Beats! Part 1 + 2 DVD’s (which came with the Blu-rays) and as such they’ll be included with the batch, so it’s delayed until we’ve finished those 2!
They are a pretty interesting watch and obviously without subtitles if you don’t speak the language you wouldn’t enjoy them nearly as much since it’s a mix of interviews/how the production was done. We weren’t going to bother, but I checked one of the parts out and came out really enjoying it (I expected boring but it was really cool instead). Each part is ~45mins so that’s why it’ll take a little bit of time to get them done. I’m only just finishing the encoding for as we speak.
So that’s the Angel Beats BD! batch status. Look forward to The Making of Angel Beats! special!

34. Still missing Amagami, but the lineup for this season makes up for the loss, especially Gosick… moe…ahem.. .
Anyways, Thanks UTW for the quality release.

35. Loneliness, fighting (find him?) back again,
seems to be like it never ends.
Give us hope, through the love of peace,
moon shine on me!

Brilliant Encode ar! Did you use a sharpening filter while encoding, because this one seems a bit more sharper than the first episode.

37. I think I did sharpen it a touch more, just the first ep I accidentally killed a little bit of detail without noticing, so it probably looked a little duller in some areas. I compensated for that and forgot I fixed the problem :>
It didn’t seem overbearing to me at least, but thats what for feedback is for of course :> If it’s a touch too sharp I can back it down a little next ep to around the same as the first ep. But yeah I generally do lightly sharpen tv encodes because they tend to need it most of the time.
My rule with sharpening is it shouldn’t look much sharper than the original source at the end unless the source is really dull. So yeah just let me know feedback I’m always happy to hear, and there’s always the odd chance something was missed because even 35000 frames is a lot to look through and by the end you forget how it should look lol~

I compared this episode with some of the other TV 720p episodes I have and a BD 720p. The quality seems to be in between the two in my opinion. Seeing as I won’t be downloading the BD episodes for this series, I’d prefer to have a quality TV encode and this fits the bill perfectly πŸ™‚

That’s what it sounds like to me. I know, it doesn’t make sense and most likely has already been posted, but that’s more or less what I heared already during the Credits-Part of Episode 01.
Best regards and keep up the nice work (though especially this one won’t be THIS much work to do as it seems, but, of course, I’m in no position to judge that)!

@II Misaki II
Personally I think you were right the first time, there’s definitely an “n” in there.

44. sucram03 on January 20, 2011 at 2:42 am said:

I’m going to take a leap on this one. What I’m hearing and what “should” make sense are completely different. I’m hearing something close to what is translated. What makes more sense is this:
Loneliness (is?) finding (fighting?) black again
Seems to be (me?) like it never ends
Give us hope through the labyrinth’s
full shine on me!
But yeah, very easy to just create words. And since when did Engrish actually make correct lyrical phrasing anyway. Oh well, something to chew on.

45. That’s where the problem arises I’ve listened to those lines hundreds of times each, and at different pitches and all and honestly I came up with at least 20-30 different possibilities for what it might be. The other problem is whether it was intended to be semi gramatically correct, completely gramatically correct or not gramatically correct at all. A couple of parts I couldn’t tell if there was the right grammar slurred between words or it was missing.

46. sucram03 on January 20, 2011 at 5:04 am said:

Argh, last two lines still bugging me. Could be:
Give us help(hope?) through the love which(sounds like ‘with’) bears(pronounced like ‘tears’, ‘ears’)
full shine on me
I give up. Way too easy to just make up stuff.

47. I spent an hour and a bit filtering the clip of that sung section. I’ve increased the pitch and filtered out some lowish frequencies and done a few other things.
One thing is for sure, the first word of line 1 is definitely loneliness.
Loneliness fighting back again
(It) seems to be like it never ends
(Give us (hope or help) through the (labyrinth’s) … )
If labyrinth is wrong then this is the only other thing i can hear and it makes sense:
Give us hope through the love and be a small strand of (?)
The end of the sentence has this funny sound to it, its possible it might be a “-ly” sung as “ri”. I’m still beat.

@ar
Hehe, it’s so frustratingly awful but at the same time it’s one of the better current EDs that I’ve heard for a while. It makes me want to throw it in Audacity and play around to figure out more details, but then reality steps in and school+work+life>engrish lyrics. Oh well, whatever’s being sung is still pretty cool πŸ™‚ And in lieu of said life, thanks for your work on this ar! — I’m definitely digging this show.

50. my2cents on January 23, 2011 at 11:02 pm said:

I also listened to it over and over. After playing with the filters including slowing it down (which was a rather big help) I’ve come up with my best guess (even though I’m still not completely happy with the third line):
Loneliness, find him back again,
seems to feel like it never ends.
Give us hope through the love appears full
Shine on me

51. LOL This is one hard to figure out ED.
Episode 3 will have newtype last line.
> Give us hope through the labyrinth’s emotional grieving
I’m still not sure about “hope”, sounds like hope but it doesn’t quite make sense even for engrish. I’m pretty sure the word after what is most likely labyrinth’s is emotional, since motional makes no sense. I don’t know about grieving, but it fits with emotional and it fits the Japanese lyrics. It definitely ends in a -ing, and starts with a gr or similar sound, and breathing makes no sense whatsoever.

52. Some random faggot on January 24, 2011 at 5:33 pm said:

>it doesn’t quite make sense even for engrish
Is this even possible? Also it sounds like hope to me but I can’t really speak for the emotional grieving part since I can barely make it out.

I think we pretty much nailed the first 3 lines as:
Loneliness fighting back again
Seems to be like it never ends
Give us hope through the labyrinth
I think the last line with the hard to make out word is:
Hope, Shine on me.
Certainly ties in with the 3rd line.

55. For the record, it turns out the official lyrics where:
Loneliness Fighting back again
Seems to be like it never ends
Give us hope through the love of
peaceful shine on me
