  17. @Soul
The Team at UTW will try our best next time to bring you a release that is at least 500mb. Unfortunately this week, UFO Table sadly provided an episode with not too much action and quite a bit of blogging. We will strive harder next time to meet your expectations :>

A shame they censored the, er, pipe organ, and the CG wasn’t the best, but still awesome.

  33. Hi, Thanks as usual for the release! That was quick!
I have a question… some of that conversation in the 2nd half of the episode doesn’t really make sense… It just feels different from the usual style UTW does…
I really hope you guys aren’t rushing to put the episode out and skip the part where you polish up the English.
I think your group is known for quality and I think that people WILL wait an additional day or two to watch your subs since they know it will make more sense than any other group out there working on this series.
    THanks again!

  34. @ Otaku Gaijin Kurosawa
There isn’t really a difference, so pick whichever one is faster for you. =)

  52. zerorei on November 6, 2011 at 7:16 am said:

@yunica well he only used that name because he thought people in the present are probably more familiar with the name bluebeard than his real name gilles de reis.

  53. Leon-Gun on November 6, 2011 at 7:20 am said:

@Yunica: Notice he called himself Bluebeard after deliberating a little. He judged Uryuu, someone who isn’t even a magus or even an user of magic, to be an easy target against the other Masters and therefore used a name related to him but not his real name. One of the tenants of the Grail War is to try and keep the true name of your Servant secret in order to keep the opponents from formulating strategies based on your famous weaknesses. It’s the same reason Saber witheld her name from Shirou. Sure it’s pointless now that he went and blurted it out just like that but he’s just more than a little insane now that he’s “found” what he thinks is Jeanne.

  54. Evidently the BD/DVDs will have additional/uncensored scenes. Here’s hoping that you guys will be up to doing those. (^.^;)

  63. anonymous on November 6, 2011 at 12:07 pm said:

bluebeard was a historical figure that loved to violently kill children. his murders were possibly in the hundreds. He was eventually caught and executed by hanging as is is shown in the closing scenes. His real name was gilles de rais.

  64. @Anon
Actually Bluebeard is a folk tail believed to be partially based of Gilles de Rais.
-Gilles de Rais was real and was a self confessed child molester and serial killer.
-Bluebeard is a made up character who just murdered his wives and shit.

  65. Peniblec on November 6, 2011 at 12:53 pm said:

@anonymous: Well, Bluebeard didn’t really exist, he’s a folktale character. Gilles de Rais was an aristocrat who fought alongside Jeanne d’Arc, and who’s been associated with Bluebeard’s legend because he became a serial-killer after the Siege of OrlΓ©ans and Jeanne d’Arc’s death.
So the guys at Type-Moon decided that in the Nasuverse, Gilles de Rais was indeed Bluebeard, and that he would also be an occult sorcerer capable of summoning demons since in real life, de Rais was executed for his killings and for his occult involvement (although actually all of RealLife!de Rais’s attempts to summon demons failed).
@Raze: Speaking of French, I sent you a mail a few days ago asking whether you guys would be interested in releasing French subtitles for Fate/zero.
Basically I extracted the .ass from the .mkv and edited them with Notepad++ for a couple of friends who can’t be bothered with learning English (only did the first two episodes for now).
I thought maybe there are other frog-eaters out there who would enjoy having subs in their native language, so should I send you the files or do you prefer not to have to be bothered with multiple languages?
Thanks for the episode anyway πŸ™‚ How many will we get in Season 1 anyway? I tried looking for a list of episodes but all I could get was Wikipedia’s list, which only goes up to the sixth and says Season 2 will start next April… Season 1 isn’t finished yet, right? Γ”_Γ²

Humorously, Zero Caster almost makes Hidan no Aria’s blatant Saber ripoff sorta make sense.
I still like that this show handles censorship tactfully, to the point where I don’t think we’d gain much of anything if it showed more. Let’s face it, the intestinal organ didn’t really add anything to the plot that needed to be shown on-screen, so having it off-screen works just fine. It’s definitely better than Blood-C style censorship, in my opinion.

  79. By the rules of how heroic spirits work in the Nasuverse, any legends and the like that spawned from or in any way are directly related to someone will be essentially absorbed into and become a part of their identity as heroic spirits, even if those legends don’t form until after their death (in fact the timing doesn’t matter at all, since heroic spirits exist outside of time).
So, if there were a real hero named Bill Wayne, and he became a heroic spirit, then after that the legendary tall tale hero Pecos Bill was formed partially originally inspired by the purely human exploits of Bill Wayne, the heroic spirit Pecos Bill might then gain a Noble Phantasm that allows him to lasso a tornado. Or, actually, it can even go in reverse. He could die normally and then be elevated to the status of heroic spirit after the fact due to the legend forming. In fact, any hero could die normally while not famous, then if a sufficient legend about them becomes famous enough, they could be ranked up to heroic spirit, and, if it becomes even more famous, they could rank up to a stronger heroic spirit or even gain more Noble Phantasms associated with the legends.
tl;dr version: By Nasuverse rules, it is entirely possible for him to be both Gilles de Reis and Bluebeard at the same time now even if he wasn’t originally.

  80. I agree with XerBlade.
Isn’t the whole debate of Gilles de Reis and Bluebeard the same case as Assassin from Fate/Stay? Like how Sasaki Kojirou was a fictional character and the Holy Grail chose someone that fits that character legend the most, out came Assassin even though he doesn’t have an actual identity.
The only thing is that Assassin had no choice to call himself Sasaki Kojirou because he is nameless from the beginning. Where as Gilles de Reis chose the identity of Bluebeard? Atleast thats how I’m seeing this. Maybe it has to do with the Bluebeard being more famous that his real name thus stats boost?
Anyways, Thankyou once again UTW X3 X3 Back to back type moon works is just too awesome for words to express X3 !

  81. @martinez
Thanks for the tip with MPC HC.
But now the ordered chapters don’t work and all of my videos have now nasty artifacts…
It’ll take time to customize, but it would be nice if someone could help me (I’m using the x64 version)

  82. Thanks utw for the episode ^^

  83. @Drano
    I did a quick search for a mpc-hc guide for 10bit videos.
    Here’s the link http://haruhichan.com/wpblog/?p=205
    Hope this helps

  84. I’m confused as to what you mean by “blogging”….?

  85. Pingback: Fate/Zero – Episode 6 -”Night of Schemes” | Welcome to Genesis

  86. Good speculations. I simply assumed he is really Gilles de Reis and he just called himself Bluebeard for the heck of it since Bluebeard was based on Gilles de Reis.
Also, keep in mind the history of the Natsuverse is different than the one in real life. In the Nasuverse, magic and supernatural forces exist, meaning it wouldn’t be strange at all for an aristocrat like Gilles de Reis to study magic and be a magus. Especially if you consider the fact that he was probably insane.

  88. Do any of you, people with vast knowledge, know how can i play this 10bit in my Samsung SG2 phone ???

  89. vernaides on November 7, 2011 at 5:45 pm said:

    @xanax
    I don’t think the SG2 can play 10-bit video.
There is currently no hardware acceleration (of any sort) for 10-bit H.264.

  90. @vernaides
    What?! for real?
So, the most powerful smartphone ever made cant play this (smoothly at least) Whats the point of 10bit?
Sorry ,I just cant support this (a little angry right now)

  91. vernaides on November 7, 2011 at 6:56 pm said:

    @xanax
10-bit encoding gives better video quality compared to 8-bit at the same bit rate. In other words, better video for the same file size.
Unfortunately the video decoders in the graphics hardware of smartphones are not capable of decoding 10-bit video. The same goes for desktop and laptop video cards– that’s why there’s no DXVA support for 10-bit.
PCs can play back 10-bit video by using the CPU to perform the decoding. The slowest PC that I’ve been able to play back 10-bit Fate/Zero 720p episodes is a dual-core Atom running at 1.6 GHz.
Smartphones and tablets, however, do not have enough CPU power to do that.

  92. Nick J on November 7, 2011 at 8:16 pm said:

    @743
Thanks. I just want to purchase the right model year (diecast, not real car). Irisviel just gave me an excuse to expand my model car collection, currently consisting of two cars…

  93. @xanax The most “powerful smartphone” is nothing compared to a middling PC. Mobile devices have never been where all the new, shiny stuff is started, that always starts in the PC. You have the right to be angry, but not at the widespread adoption of 10bit in the anime community, but at the sequence of events leading to the rise of tablet/smartphone h264 playback

  94. eternia on November 8, 2011 at 8:15 am said:

@xanax: MADNESS! Who watch fansub anime on smartphone?!
Use PC/laptop if you want to watch UTW’s releases.
Visit anime streaming website if you watch to use smartphone.

  95. @fz
Thanks, mate. Worked like a charm.
I thought the problem was because of DXVA, so I didn’t think about 10bit since I’ve never had issues with 10bit before.
I just wished I didn’t have to install all kinds of codecs and filters and so on^^

  96. @eternia: its also used for moving the files to another place, you knew?
Oh, I have my 50″ led but you know what, the sg2 amoled looks MUCH better and its easier with the eyes.
Also, it can decode 8bit with 10000k bitrate without sweat, but apparently cant keep up with this ‘new shinny’ formats.
For the little research i did, media centers cant play 10bit neither.
Modernity is not only about PCs getting insanely powerful, but also about branching and portability, like the Big-ass market share that uses mobile devices and mediacenters to watch/move their shows.
I would have released the 10bit along with the classic 8bit. If its 100MB more/ep, well, who cares this days?
In the other hand, the Xvid file, THAT THING its horrendous and doesn’t make justice to UWT or any show of the last 3 years.
Well then, enough with the venting.
    I just need t f#ck something. Bye

  97. @xanax other media obviously has to adapt to new things which takes soem time. if nobody would advance as logn as not every signle thing could paly it, then we woudlnt even have 8-bit or anyhing decent for that matter. we’d still have VHS.

  98. @xanax
Don’t sweat it. When I watch videos on my phone, I always downscale, because the image quality is much better, than when the phone downsamples it (also, I save a lot of space on my phone).
Just convert the video so it natively fits your phone’s screen and make it 8 bit in the process, problem solved.
Unfortunately, I don’t know where to get a conversion software that supports mkv and 10-8 bit.
    Sorry, mate.
