Yup, yet another good episode. They swapped locations for the Irisviel and Maiya section in the middle, but it’s still the moving scene it’s supposed to be. ;_;
The nico subs were brilliant this week… until the Kirei and Gil section, which had several pretty serious mistranslations. Oh well.
Please enjoy, and see you next week!
P.S.: I’ve whipped up a quick report of the more serious errors in the nico script for those of you who like that kind of stuff. It’s a shame, because the rest of this week’s script was really quite good for the most part.

Episodes for this second part have been really good so far, I hope the flashback ep next week doesn’t drop all the tension built up to now~

The biggest error that I noticed with Nico was that Tokiomi told Rin to make sure the church was in her debt, it’s meant to be the Mage Association, a pretty big change…

my week isn’t complete w/out your work on f/z, thanks!

12. tony_redgrave on April 29, 2012 at 1:58 am said:

It’s funny how I thought Tokiomi to be a pretty boring character throughout the series, but got kinda sad at his end. Kirei for the win! Also thumbs up to Tsuru21’s observation. “kyoukai” probably confused them since it usually means church.

13. @ Tsuru21
Derp, I missed that. It sort of made sense logically (since the Mage’s Association and the Church are technically eternal enemies), which was why I didn’t question it. It’ll be fixed for the batch.

14. Tsuru21 on April 29, 2012 at 2:07 am said:

Aren’t they both Kyoukai? That’s probably why they did it.
Ah yeah, tony pointed it out too.

15. @ Tsuru21
Yeah, they’re perfect homonyms, which makes it very difficult to catch. You’d think they’d clarify it for anime viewers when adapting the source by using “Majutsukyoukai” instead.
Any self-respecting TM fan would’ve noticed, though, so I have no excuses. I messed up. ;_;

Looks like Kiritsugu’s life will come to light for the next coming episode(s). ^^

18. Rahmeesh on April 29, 2012 at 2:47 am said:

Is there a particular reason why the file size is significantly smaller than previous episodes?
I almost thought it was fake

19. @Rahmeesh
Not much happens in this episode, that is all. Size is relative to amount of stuff going on visually, in your typical cases. Encoding setting and filtering wise, it is nearly identical to all previous episodes.

20. Awesome. Time for the best.

21. Anonymous on April 29, 2012 at 3:02 am said:

(*praise for thoroughness!*)
((For those wondering about file size, I would suspect it to be due to there being fewer dramatic rapidly-changing Servant battle scenes, and more scenes with people remaining in roughly the same positions while talking. (Which are just as enjoyable in a different way, given the content.)))
(Returning to the first thought, the attention to detail (/pedantry/pickiness) is almost certainly why I hold a high impression of UTW compared to certain other subtitling groups who respond to such notings as if {one were crazy}/{being crazy were a bad thing}. It means a great deal to be able to store with high quality something to rewatch again and again and show to others.)
(In any case, cheering! I worry I don’t vocalise my appreciation frequently enough.)

Thanks for the episode guys. Also, I have a quick question. I hope this isn’t a spoiler, but when Irisviel said to Tokiomi that there was a bad blood between Einzbern and the executor, what exactly happened between them? Was there anything in the F/Z novels that clarified why Tokiomi was shocked about that or is it just the bad relation between the Mage Association and the Church? I tried finding the answer online but I couldn’t dig up anything.

26. Solitud on April 29, 2012 at 4:22 am said:

@Hiyuu
I think that line was in reference to Kirei in general. Tokiomi didn’t know that Kirei had confronted her and maya at the einzbern castle, since he wasn’t supposed to reveal himself as still a master and all. That was where the shock came from on Tokiomi’s end. Sort of a ‘what has kirei been doing’.

here’s what i posted in the Baka-Tsuki Fate/Zero translation page though i don’t think there’s a response yet.. this is for the upcoming episode..
About Arimago ?= Alimango Island’s translation
Right after reading the intermission chapter of Vol. 4, I have come to realize that this “Arimago Island” you have translated for アリマゴ島 may perhaps be “Alimango Island”. I looked for a bunch of local terms for a giant crab in most Asian countries but our (I’m a Filipino) local term for a giant (mud) crab, as stated in the novel of the meaning of Arimago, seems to fit the bill. The katakana アリマゴ may be read as Alimango since \li\ = \ri\ and there is no equivalent of our \ngo\ in Japanese such that \go\ might suffice. There is such an island in our country of the same name in Negros Occidental, Philippines but whether or not it is that same island is not really what I’m concerned of. What I’m concerned of is that Type-Moon used a Philippine setting for that significant portion of the story. There are many hints in the novel that led me to believe of this: 1) “Alimango” ?= “アリマゴ” is indeed a term that refers to giant (mud) crabs; 2) the island believes in folklore similar to what Asian countries believe in; 3) the Philippines along with nearby Asian countries are areas where Nasuverse’s Mage Association is not primarily concerned of, an ideal location for a magus who wants to seclude himself; 4) the Philippines is one of the, if not the only, country in Asia where it would make sense that there is a Catholic priest and probably a chapel in a remote island; 5) remote islands like these in Philippines and nearby Asia during the timeline of the novel are indeed poverty stricken to have only a few 4-wheel vehicles running in the island; 6) it is common for Filipinos to use Western names such as Shirley more likely so than any other countries in Asia and even if they live in non-urbanized remote islands; 7) “Kerry” definitely strikes me of Visayan accent because these Visayan citizens also can’t pronounce “Kiri” well; and other nifty details when one reads the novel and is familiar with this background. Of course, I could be wrong and this could be an Australian or some Oceanian island instead. But I’d still bet that Arimago is actually Alimango based on the inferences that I have made. I have to spread this word to hopefully replace Arimago terms in Type-Moon and Fuyuki Wikia and to the upcoming Fate/Zero anime translation into Alimango.
as i said, i could be wrong.. just pointing it out.. use this hypothesis or not if you want..
anyway, awesome episode as always..

Thanks, and very interested in the translations. Some comments follows.
15:04 何の備えもないままcould also mean without forethought or planning. You could therefore translate it as “In other words, you’re in the same room as an enemy Servant without a plan of action.” Might be able to use “strategy” also.
16:08 The word “simply” kind of detracts from the comment. I think it would be better to say, “In the end, my master is a true Mage to his very core.”
