The official name for that busty blonde Sylph girl is apparently Leafa, so that’s what we’ll be going with. Ep16 will be fixed for the batch.
I’ve never really liked the Fairy Dance arc, and you can probably tell why from this episode. Good thing Leafa’s around!

GGO is the best imho, S2 announcemente when? And stop bitching about Leafa’s name, the text clearly shows that’s the proper spelling of her name as intended by the production, seems like Lyfa was just a misinterpretation by the novel translator, can’t blame him, just put up with it.

26. so theyre gonna end this by volume 3 of the novels or are we gonna get the GGO arc by the next season?

27. @blue_espeon Official translation came out as Leafa. I prefer Lyfa as well (From the translated novels), but it’s best to stick with the official translation for names.

Just one nitpick at 3:05 – Leafa incredulously repeats the word “P-Papa?!” but Yui hadn’t yet called Kirito that (in your subtitles), so Leafa wouldn’t have heard it. It would make sense to sort that out for a future v2.
I can’t relate to all the complaining around here, as I thought this was a great episode!

Why is the official name Leafa, since i dont hear any “a” when watching the anime. Aparrently it was the Horrible Subs release that had it like this, are you sure you have searched well enough ?

41. @george1234 The proof is in the episode post. http://puu.sh/1jmK6. The Official name in the anime is Leafa.

42. Horriblesubs didn’t just add in that sign for the lulz- that screenshot isn’t even a CR rip. That’s just how the production studio decided to write her name.

43. Murasaki no Tora on October 28, 2012 at 7:23 am said:

@george1234

@ Raze
ALO isn’t all that bad. Granted, SAO and GGO were better, and perhaps ALO’s story was a bit of a cop-out, but I still found it enjoyable. Didn’t you? 😛 The ending was pretty awesome, too… and it introduces some important characters to fluff out Kirito’s real life. Though, admittedly, I like Sugu… and liking or disliking her probably matters a lot in how enjoyable this arc will be too any one person.

44. the suspense is KILLING ME FuuuCK. At least the rage over the antagonist isn’t as intense as Accel World’s during the noumi arc, sugou, you can lick my nuts ^_^

Of course, the anime studio can’t even spell “alert” correctly. I don’t know why anyone would expect them to get the names right either.

49. Anonymous on October 28, 2012 at 8:44 am said:

@Tsubaki
The anime studio didn’t change anything. The fan translator of the novel probably just got it wrong since リーファ (Riifa) can be translated as Leefa, Reefa, Leafa, Reafa, (and also Leapha, Reapha, etc.) or whatever.
You can also find a proper romanization of リーファ (Riifa) through the japanese wiki link below:

“Leafa” does make some pun-tastic sense though, considering the fairy-tale setting of the current arc.

57. @Asdfjuma the LNs are still ongoing, ALO (Where the anime is at now) is the 2nd arc, and the LNs are currently in their 4th Arc.
As for the wincest question the quick answer is no.
Nothing ever happens between Suguha and her brother. Suguha is in love with her brother but gives up after realizing how much he cares for Asuna, she then vents her feeling in game and starts to develop feeling for the player Kirito, without knowing that it”s actually her brother again. After she finds out who Kirito is- she’s obviously devastated- I mean she fell in love, realized she couldn’t advance with her love and then fell in love again only to find out it was the same person. 65. Question. Emotions in VRMMOs are supposed to be exaggerated according to the LN but there is no implication of it being so in the story’s RL. So why has Suguha shown us such exaggerated expressions in the story’s RL?
Possible answer: Anime makers messed up.

66. I would like to request a removal of the names on the “baka-tsuki chat” comment or complete removal of that comment.

67.
@hello: When she log off and think about her action in the game (go with Kirito on a 2-person adventure), she got embarrassed. From the novel, there is a quote from Recon (her companion that got killed previous episode and got left out in this episode) that she becomes bolder as Leafa in game.
68. The only people upset about the name change seem to be book fanatics, most of whom seem to have blindly assumed that the fan translation of the novel would NEVER err before the anime fansub team would (Strike 1) and don’t seem able to reconcile the fact that her name is リーファ (makes an English long e sound like “beef” or “reed”) and her given name 直葉 contains the word for leaf 葉 in it (Strike 2!). Even if it were revealed that Kawahara Reki himself liked the Lyfa spelling I still think “Leafa” would be a better romanization if you’re trying to give viewers the same pun that Japanese readers enjoyed when reading the book. I see “Lyfa” and I think of the English long i vowel sound as in “rye” or “bye”. It may look stylish but it totally miscommunicates both the original sound of the name as well as the pun.
.
+1 to keeping Leafa.

69. Shadow on October 28, 2012 at 8:38 pm said:

I like turtles …
… and I like the name, Leafa. It’s on her in-game console and makes sense given she’s a green fairy. Kudos.

70. “Leafa” makes sense as they seem to be some kind of nature race with the green theme everywhere (despite they are all fairies). English is much more flexible with phonetics and spelling. We also have different pronunciations based on context. English names tend to be unique which don’t resemble words and usually have unique pronunciations. Irregular pronunciations are common: “Michael” sounds like “my-kull” and not “mich-ale”. In English “Lyfa” would be more likely a name than “Leafa”. It has the sound of “leaf” but is spelled uniquely like a name. Names spelled similarly to real words are not celebrated.

71. Wow, how did no one see the 葉 in Suguha’s name in relation to her character name before? “Leafa” makes a lot more sense now. But I have to say to all the people arguing that its because her race is nature/plant based that’s wrong. Sylphs are Wind based. The plant/nature based race should be Spriggans considering in folklore they are tree sprites, despite ALO making them illusion/darkvision based with black clothing.
Salamanders are obviously Fire
Undines are Water
Gnomes are Earth
Cait Sith are Beast/Animal
Imps are Darkness
Leprechauns are. . . crafting? merchants? They made the Relic Armor and Dragon Riding gear for the Sylph and Cait Sith armies and Liz ends up as one
No idea what Pucas are supposed to be beside “musical” because there are no Puca characters in the story
I guess I’ll just have to wait for the doujinshis to be translated for my Wincest.
@Zed Spriggans are generally dark creatures. What I said about leafa was just because she wears green. XD
I’m still a little undecided on Lyfa vs Leafa though. Even if it’s spelt as Lyfa the meaning is still there, a little, sort of…. maybe?

73. Ive seen other translations for the tree name, i think it would make more sense if you called it the “World Tree” rather than what you’ve actually put, cause that makes me mess up my reading every time.

74. Asdfjuma on October 28, 2012 at 11:31 pm said:

@Jarryd They actually say world tree or something or rather don’t they?
But Yggdrasil makes sense if you actually read up on it.

75. If you don’t know any Japanese and don’t enjoy the taste of your foot in your mouth, don’t question the translator’s translation choice.
.
For those of you studying Japanese and interested to know what the Japanese word for Yggdrasil is, I’ll give you one guess and one screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/aSO5G.png

93. @Kohiro:
Actually, there is a little “he” syllable at the end in the next episode’s title. This syllable is what makes it a “to world tree”.

94. @Kohiro: I don’t think you understand that the two terms are synonymous. Yggdrasil is the World Tree, the World Tree Yggdrasil. If you won’t be persuaded by the most credible English-Japanese dictionary on the Internet, then perhaps the Japanese Wikipedia article on Yggdrasil might change your mind. ~_~
.
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%A6%E3%82%B0%E3%83%89%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B7%E3%83%AB
.
.
If you can read that, you now know why it’s dumb to insist that World Tree =/= Yggdrasil. And if you can’t read it, well, once again you shouldn’t even bother questioning UTW’s translator’s fluency because he’s clearly more clued in than you.

@Kazeto yes. You’re right. I was off on the へ part. Sorry.
@Tal I know they are on and the same but in this show they call it/pronounced the “World Tree” and not “Yggdrasil”. If you want to hear Japanese pronounce Yggdrasil in a show then you should watch “Ah! My Goddess” They call it/pronounced as “Yggdrasil” there.

96. tl;dr Arguing about things that don’t really matter.

97. @Kohiro: Yes, that is precisely the point. It doesn’t matter if there are synonyms, all that matters is what the characters say. I never really understood the logic behind this. If someone says “6 months”, for the love of God don’t change it to “half a year” and vice versa. There is significance to the words that characters say in the original Japanese script, believe it or not.
It’s like in Code Geass where the Lancelot is powered by the Yggdrasil Driver. They actually say “Yggdrasil” in the show.

Like, I know you’re super busy with Med school and councul work and all that, but I see you making releases like this one from time to time, and so I wonder, why do the new shows get priority over the Fate/Zero BD’s? It ought to be the other way around.

106. C3 Special where?
Amagami SS+ special where?
Amnesia OVA where?
Thank you for your hard work.

@Rokudaime:
That is because “new shows” are new, and thus there would be nothing had he not done them. And BDs for stuff are just that, BDs, something that is pretty much a quality-increasing bonus for those who already have something.

108. Oops, was a little hasty with Amnesia.

109. @Rokudaime that would be true if UTW were solely a BD ripping group. But when a group does airing TV series, what’s the point in doing them if they give BD collections higher priority and are weeks late releasing episodes? Your logic is ridiculous.

@People not wanting to wait for BDs: do it yourself. Get yourself some BD raws, encode them, demux the scripts (or get them from the site) and mux your own version. It’s not that hard, just needs time.

@Soukyuu
You’re kidding right? Just because you know how to encode doesn’t mean other people do.

112. Encoding isn’t the hard thing. Fuck, even I can encode. It’s encoding to the best possible encode (Which most people complaining want) which is the difficult task. You can’t just read about all the different settings and filters that are involved/out there and learn to be a Brilliant encoder overnight, it takes experience and repetition to learn that. You do get some groups >wont point fingers but we all know who I’m talking about< who think the opposite and release embarrassing encodes which clearly display their lack of knowledge.
I do agree that no one has the right to complain though- Everyone on the staff here have a lot going on at the moment, I'm Surprised and extremely happy that no shows have been dropped and there hasn't even been many delays. No one has the right to complain about an extra side project not being completed. There are only so many hours in the day etc.

113. Not only the encode, but if it’s anything like the first half of the series there will be plenty of new scenes that will need translating as well. I’m waiting patiently for the BDs without getting my hopes up they’ll be out anytime soon, so when they actually do get released it will be a pleasant surprise.

I have a question… You will translate the Special of SAO?

115. Kazeto on October 31, 2012 at 4:17 pm said:

@Rokudaime:
No, he’s not kidding. It’s the universal “it can be done on your own, so go and do that instead of complaining” reply, which is never a joke.

116. Soukyuu on October 31, 2012 at 6:27 pm said:

@Rokudaime: No, I’m not kidding. Never too late to learn new things, and it’s more productive than waiting for someone to find time to release it.

117. You guys are missing the more obvious problem of the new footage. Telling him to go and learn how to re-encode video files with subtitles isn’t going to be of much help when his subtitle files are only 25 minutes long for episodes which are 26, 27, 28 minutes long owing to added content. He’ll have to learn Japanese as well. And time. Which basically means you want him to become a one-man fansubbing group. Which he could totally do … but I think you’re being unreasonable if you’re expecting him to STFU and go do that when UTW’s promised to do the F/Z Blu-Rays, when F/Z was one of if not their single most popular projects ever, and when the very group came together because of a mutual love of Fate/stay night and its related franchises.

118. Soukyuu on October 31, 2012 at 9:38 pm said:

@Tal: and complaining about it helps how? It’s either wait for UTW to find time to do it or do it yourself. The one being unreasonable here isn’t me; UTW does this for fun, it’s not their work. They are not obligated to release anything, nor do they have any deadlines.
This is supposed to be a SAO/ALO release topic though, so this is my final comment on this.

119. So, with C3 stalled at Daiz and Amnesia OVA not yet out it leaves me wondering about Amagami specials (“We’ll see about doing the specials included in the BDs, though.” was the last thing i heard about them). Are they stalled or dropped?

Still like Asuna better than Lyfa/Leafa/Rifa.

121. @palladium:
Many do. I, too, like Asuna more than Leafa; it does not mean I do not like Leafa, though.
So for the time being enjoy the imouto.

122. People like to complain way too much… I had to laugh at the ‘pomf’ thing though.

123. Please translate Sword Art Offline sono and Acchel World :°°°°°°°°°

I wonder if they’re going to hard-sell Shino/Sinon in the next arc (if it gets made) the way they did Asuna and now Suguha/Leafa?
Then again
this almost seems like they’re pushing Suguha harder than Asuna, as we never saw her taking a shower…
