Hi everyone! I’m quite a noob with these series and I wanted to ask which is the best way to start watching it. I was going to download A Certain Scientific Choudenjihou S from episode 1, but then I saw there is A Certain Scientific Choudenjihou, which seems to precede this one (aired around 2009 iirc). then there is A Certain Magical Index, which I think is the original series, right?
Can I watch any of these independently. If not, in which order should I watch them? Is A Certain Magical Index mandatory view to understand the rest?
Thanks!

It would be best to start with Index but it isnt completely needed to understand Railgun. Index is more like the other side of the coin to Railgun but they do intersect at times,

Thanks so much for the episode!
Have a great night and weekend!

5. Misaka-chan looks delicious in black :3
@Alvaro
The order according to year of released:
1)Index
2)Railgun
3)Index II
4)Railgun S
Railgun is side story of Index which focus on Misaka and her co. with the MC from Index bumping in on several occasion (although in Railgun S iteration, he will supporting her as the arc is alternate retelling of the Sister Noise which dwells deeper on
the origins of Misaka’s Imouto
) . Long story short, Index storyline focus on the conflict between The Academy City/Esper and Magical factions while Railgun focus on Esper vs Esper.

Isn’t about half of the first season of Railgun slice-of-life filler invented by JC Staff?

And I vote someone finds where PK typesetter lives and use some violence.

Thanks @Nekros and @AMg!
I will try to go the “traditional” route then and follow the series chronologically. It looks very interesting!
Best!

10. I watched Railgun before I watched both seasons of Index, the order doesn’t really matter. There’s a few cameos you won’t get, but besides that I don’t remember being confused about anything else.
As far as I know, a fair bit of the first season was non-manga material, not that it mattered. I found Railgun to be the better show of the series, though Index is still a lot of (dumb) fun.

11. THANKS GUYZ FOR THE SUBS.

12. @Anon
Sadly, the 2nd part of the first season of Railgun is filler material; bringing “closure” to the surviving kids of Child Error and aftermath of Level Upper incident. If they omit the filler, the first season will cover Sister’s Noise arc.

Thanks for the weekly raildex dosage

14. As a general note, a large part of Railgun S occurs concurrently with episodes 10-14 of Index, so I’d recommend that people watch up to there before Railgun S.
It probably won’t matter, though.
@AMg: From what I can tell, that filler material probably still “happened”. There’s references to Therestina (or however her name’s spelled) in the light novels (New Testament, Volume 4, Period.21 & Main.30) and the OVA’s incidents are mentioned in the manga (Chapter 43, page 7).

15. @AMg
I’m not sure what’s “sad” about that. I thought the second half was just good as good as the first. If it means they have more episodes to fill the current arc out (new season vs. partway through previous), all the better.

16. Watching Index before Railgun is not mandatory.
In fact, the entire first reason of Railgun happens, chronologically, BEFORE (or roughly DURING) the first couple of episodes of Index.
The second season of Railgun is going to happen roughly before and during episodes 9~12 of Index, if I remember correctly.
You could watch the first half of Index and basically have everything you need to figure out where the stories vaguely intersect, but it’s really not needed.

Just thought I’d point out a minor translation error.
@ 13:15, Kanamin said “Henshi”as in transform rather than “Healthy”
You might want to reference the manga to double check you translations.

Hello, I am having problem with this release. It is crashing around the 12:10. Had to reboot the system once, although the second time only the media player needed to be closed. Even before that crash, some previous parts of the episode stuttered a bit.
The previous releases worked fine.
