So finally, here’s that “something” you’ve all been asking for. This wouldn’t have been possible without Stiltzkin’s awesome generosity so a big thanks goes out to him! Otsukaresama desu~ 😀 Oh and thanks to Zaockle for doing some editing then vanishing~
I don’t personally think the BD looks much better than the TV version but there are a few uncensored scenes (which shouldn’t have been censored in the first place) and according to Raze a few lines of dialogue were uncensored too, so that’s cool.
Bonus Features List:
* Episode 01+02: Creditless Opening+Ending Spliced In
720p Release
* Video – ~CRF 16, 2-pass mixed
* Audio – AC3 2.0 320Kbps
1080p Release
* Video – ~CRF 17, 2-pass mixed
* Audio – AC3 2.0 320Kbps
Long story short, would have been a waste of size using FLAC for the 1080p since the Audio track is pretty average, so I went ahead and used AC3 for both, and no I won’t be releasing a FLAC for it either because it’s pointless! It won’t sound any better.

  1. Been eagerly waiting for you to release this – thanks so much!

  2. Massive file size for such a low bit show

  3. Hmm, so is there any diff in 720p and 1080p for this show? (:

  4. @Yui
    How could there not be a difference?

  5. @Woah
    I don’t know what you’re talking about. This is reasonable file size for a BD release. Some people have ridiculous expectations. Me as the encoder decides what bitrate something needs, and nobody else. If it has this much size, then it needs it. It’s got lots of colours which uses extra bitrate.
    @Yui
    Yeah the difference is the 1080p looks better I guess? It’s just they didn’t put a huge amount of effort into the BD is all.

  6. hey woah, im alive, just never was informed as to wtf was going on with the project

  7. @zaockle
    Come hang in staff chan then you bum and you’d know what’s going on. Already busy enough as is, than as to also chase up others! 😀

    Nice, any comparison shots for parts which were censored?

  12. Great to see you’re doing the show in blu-ray it’s appreciated. I wonder why you decided to change the subtitle styling though? It seems a weird choice to make it a lot less readable… also did you remove the OP ED translation as well? Anyway sorry for bitching hope you consider changing the styling back. 🙂

  13. Styling should be the same as the batch. OP/ED translation is still there…..
    @boingman
    Um watch it I guess? heh There’s a few scenes but I can’t remember them all.

    Hey guys, great work. Just… the fonts used… why did you change them?

  15. @ar: That’s weird… did you completely change the styling in the batch release? 🙁

  16. DmonHiro on September 12, 2010 at 11:07 am said:

    Oh… you guys changed the styling for the batch release? I never got that one, cause I knew you’d be doing the Bluray.

    I had downloaded coalgirls Angel Beats BD. I experienced had drops in framerate and stuttering. Your encodes always play fine though. Keep up the good work!

  23. Thanks to god, there are still fansubber groups that DOES understand that a lossless audio compression does NOT automatically makes the audio better, and that the final quality greatly depends on the source quality. I wish more people would become aware of how the so called “lossy” compression actually works, but I know that would be too much to ask.
    Well, disregard that, thanks for this release, very much appreciated, you never fail me.

    XD

  27. if only i can play this on my ps3 without any troubles. i guess i’ll stick with your avi releases since it only support avi and mp4 files.

  28. @Leo Going to be honest here… I see absolutely NO difference in qualities between the two. Except UTW’s picture is bigger.
    Back on topic, thanks for the release guys. Always appreciate your hard work to provide excellent quality vids in very short time.

  29. @TheGuy: look at Yamada’s face. And if u can not difference, i have nothing to say.

  30. @Leo
    They are cropped differently.

  31. codehooked on September 15, 2010 at 6:41 pm said:

    lol @ my share ratio
    1080p share ratio is around 43
    720p share ratio is around 46
    😀

  32. My share ratios are like 0.1… slow internet is slow >_>

  33. @ar: …. and ?
    That can not explain why the face of Yamada in Tamashii’s is sharper than UTW

  34. BLACK_JUDGMENT on September 16, 2010 at 5:01 am said:

    @Leo,
    But the UTW image itself is larger there, I could see criticizing it were they the same size, but come on, of course the larger picture is going to appear more blurry. UTW is the best release. Although I hate karaoke, there’s not much I can do about it.

  35. @BLACK_JUDGMENT: u can say that if 1080p vs 720p but…
    btw, leave this aside, AtsA is out. check it later.

  36. @Leo
    They aren’t even the same frames. Sigh. Plus comparing screenshots taken by MPC-HC is silly too. If you want to compare screenshots, here this is a PROPERLY taken screenshot.
    http://sadpanda.us/images/216614-E37NQWL.png
    Frame #18977, frame on otherside of scene change. First frame of this scene. Compare the same frames and you know exactly. This is taken with AVSP with the MKV indexed with DGDecNV. So no nonsense such as the decoder screwing with the image. This is exactly how the frame looks encoded.
    Also if they decide to use our B-Gata scripts, PLEASE use the ones we are muxing with the blu-ray encodes. They are DIFFERENT from the previous ones, because we are editing them and translating censored lines.

  37. @ar:
    u use DGDecNV or MPC-HC to watch anime on HTPC ?
    the screenshots above is not mine. I didnt check Tamashii because he used CG scripts.
    So i took my screenshots with MPC-HC + CoreAVC(CUDA) (will this decoder screw up image)?

  38. Skins Thunderbomb on September 16, 2010 at 8:08 am said:

    Thank you very much for releasing this! <3

  39. @Leo,
    Well coreavc changes colorspace, levels and other things. So unless you force them for both, the results may be inconsistent. That’s why I do it with AVSP because it doesnt change anything. Try using ffdshow ffmpeg-mt decoder to screen shot, might be a bit more consistent than coreavc. Coreavc takes shortcuts on decoding, so it actually has a slightly worse picture than ffmpeg-mt or libavcodec most of the time.
    Edit:
    They look pretty much the same other than mines a little more cropped, you can see the transfer edges on the Atsa version. Maybe I cropped a little too much though, I’ll check it out on BD2. I think it had inconsistent transfer edges, cause the scene I cropped on there was quite a bit of a transfer edge.

    actually i dont understand so much about the technical specs you told above.
    So… Keep up 😀

    Personally, I like the font type/size you guys used for Amagami more than Angel Beats and B Gata H Kei, which are too thin. Regardless, I still download your all of releases for the excellent translations, quality, and squid puns. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to episode 12 tonight.

    I have downloaded ep 1 & 2 from Tamashii. I don’t know whose script they used (maybe coalguys). So anyone, could you give me the script from UTW + font. I really thank you if you could 😀

  46. @Layton
    For which version? 720 or 1080? Also they may need slight shifting because we used Creditless OP/EDs. That would be your responsibility.

  47. Layton on October 2, 2010 at 4:34 pm said:

    just 720p
    wait. is this use ordered chapter?
    I wuold like to request the script with OP ED karaoke (Tamashii don;t have this)
    thanks.

  48. http://www.mediafire.com/?8z514513wxj3g71
    Here you go.
    No it doesnt use ordered chapters, but I’ve spliced in Creditless OP/ED’s as replacement for the originals. So it maybe a frame or two different.

  49. Layton on October 2, 2010 at 11:22 pm said:

    You;re the Best ar…….
    I have used your script and … with font too
    even though the OP ED karoke used kanji too, but the karaoke is play well. unlike the other fasubs. maybe because the size font is perfect
    about your translation, this is the best too…..
