EDIT (5/20/2011):: v2 released to fix chroma glitch in the second half. No patch, since it’s a new encode. The encoder says he’ll mess around with the settings to rein in the filesize by next week. No promises, but we might include a more appropriately-sized encode of this episode in the batch for you archivers out there.

Heh well, I wasn’t too happy about the size either, but we didn’t want to make people wait any longer for the v2.
The tl;dr was, after changing to the latest x264 build it seemed to have thrown filesizes out a bit, which can happen build to build. I re-encoded the second half (that was messed up) and the overall size came out over ~620mb. So i stopped it, reined in the settings somewhat, and re-encoded the whole episode. It still came out bigger than expected unfortunately, but that point I’d wasted nearly 2hrs already.
I’m doing some test encodes right now to get the size down to a more sensible level with the current ep, for the next ep so this doesn’t happen next week.

I think because x264 team recently modified rate-controller (to optimize for VFR, longer frame will get more bitrate) so CRF encode with framerate lower than 25 will get bigger (and above 25 will be the opposite).
If you make CRF encode then you should + 0.5 -> 1.0.

196MB for AVI is acceptable.
To those watching on netbooks (I am using N270), I used to shut down all other programs before watching to minimise stuttering (it worked for Taka’s 720p Naruto fansubs). I subsequently bought a miniPCIe Broadcom BCM70015 video decoder card which now handles all the heavy lifting. With that card, I can watch 1080p videos pretty comfortably =).
Sorry should have added I used CCCP+CoreAVC in those days. Now it is CCCP+Broadcom’s filter.

Umm… about the uploaded scripts. None of them have the fonts attached to them. Could you reupload the scripts with the font’s attached. It’s quite easy if you’re using Aegisub.

The v2 on baka-updates is listed as Hidan no Aria 06v2 rather than what it should be.
I don’t mind 500 MB releases. It’s not like there are a lot of static scenes and the individual frames are rich in details and colors.
It’s better to make it a bit bigger than lose some of the quality.
Looks like I’m not the only one who noticed Jinta was watching Occult Academy on the TV. He’s got good taste in anime.
Good thing hard drives are dirt cheap these days. I don’t care at all about file size.
I have a feeling that this series is going to kill me if I keep watching it… but here I am… still glued to my screen…
