Aye so here is Episode 2, and we’ll try and get some more episodes released (if possible) in the next couple of weeks. Raze’s priority is on Fate/Zero, so after he’s finished that he might have some time to work on this show some more before he goes back to University.
Also there was some hurfing about banding in ep01 by certain people compared to another groups release which was covered in grain (which hides some of the banding). The problem lies in how Shaft handled the gradients (and most likely doing some silly resizing practices), and while this has already been debanded heavily, some gradients just can’t be fixed that easily. I really don’t have the time nowadays to be scene-filtering and creating hand-made masks every time stuff like this occurs and can’t just be easily fixed, so if some people aren’t happy without it being covered in grain (see: f3kdb) to hide the banding, feel free to grab the other group’s release. Please note that if I took that route, I would also need to raise the bitrate even higher to make it look acceptable in my eyes, because that’s just how it is.

Oh shit! We’ve finally released an episode!
Yeah, so there’s a good reason that most Shaft series don’t typically get worked on beyond what’s done while it airs on TV. They are a ton of work and finding the spare time to do a good job of it isn’t easy, but never fear! We have the courage to stall 10 more episodes!
But here’s a brief rundown of the current situation:
Episode 2 @ QC.
Episode 3 @ QC.
Episode 4 @ QC.
Episode 5 @ Typesetting.
We’ll get through the episodes as time permits, and release each episode as soon as it’s been signed off as good to go. All of us are pretty busy nowadays, and this is a side project we wanted to do, so basically weekly shows come first, then batches, and then stuff like this when we have some free time and actually feel like working on Chinese cartoons.
After some deliberation with the involved staff last night, we’ve decided to hold out working on Nisemonogatari until the Blurays, regardless of the quality of Crunchyroll subs.
While we did work on simulcasted shows in the past, the reasons for doing them have always outweighed the reasons not to. With Gosick, Crunchyroll provided no 720p version; with Fate/Zero, the streams were 360p and hardsubbed. In both cases, the total work involved wasn’t too bad, either.
Neither is the case with Nisemonogatari. Crunchyroll will be providing 720p video and subs about an hour after airing, and the work involved in subbing such a series is astronomical. We’d probably end up releasing up to 24 hours after airing, which makes the venture all the more pointless when speedy rips at 720p resolution will be available so quickly. Not to mention that this would be by far the smartest decision in terms of preserving our sanities; we’d probably burn out a few weeks into the show working under such demanding and pointless conditions.
So rather than doing all the work twice, we’ve decided to hold out until the BDs and do a good job on those. Sorry to disappoint those of you who were looking forward to following Nisemonogatari with us, but unfortunately our lives do come first. EDIT (8/1/2012):: Turns out CR’s translation is pretty good, and they also translated all the important signs. Furthermore, CR’s video actually has more details than the transport stream (but more banding). There’s really no reason left for us to work on the Nise TV broadcasts anymore, so we’re more than happy to settle for working on the Blurays.
The following section is from our resident Monogatarifag Moshiburner.
Oh the things I do to make a blog post amusing… It took me all of ten whole stinkin’ minutes to paint.net that thing.
But MAN am I on fire for Nise! Epic sequel incoming, I swear. I’m burning through the novels as I type. No I’m not. I’m going to sleep now. But when I wake up, you know what’s goin’ down. My morale! Wait what no that’s a good one but NO go away now yes just leave okay good thank you!
So, as a show of my/our overflowing enthusiasm (he says as he shoves fake moshiburner behind the curtains), here is the following 60-second promotional video of Nisemonogatari, or, as we the staff have decided, Impostory:
Was it good? Yes it was. No it wasn’t? Well you’re no good either. Is ar’s typesetting fabulous? Yes, as always. Are fnord and Daiz going to work the hardest and get forgotten again anyway? Probably. IS THIS WHOLE THING A FAKE? THEN OUR PLANS MUST BE REAL!
…I think I’ll stick to easier jokes. I pray that someone understands it.
Anyhoo, I’ll let Raze take over from here. We shall meet again!
…And next time, you’re in for one hell of a story.

Okay, my turn. We decided to sub the above Nise PV as a “practice run” of sorts to figure out how we’d handle the translation of certain phrases and terms, and the typesetting. Things worked out pretty well, I think.
While ar was wrapping the signs up, it occurred to me it wouldn’t really be fair to Amagami fans if we subbed a Nise PV and just ignored dat Ayatsuji trailer. So… here it is!
Yeah, we’re reusing the fonts and stuff from the original. Nostalgia etc.
And no, we didn’t forget about Carnival Phantasm. Please see our release FAQ on the right for status information.
We are confirmed for the following, barring last-minute simulcasting:
Amagami SS+
Nisemonogatari
Both of these shows will be UTW solo projects.
We don’t normally do more than 2-3 shows a season as we are a small group of busy people, so this will most likely be it.
