So this makes another episode down, only one more until Volume 1 is finished (finally!), then it’ll be onto Volume 2. Since I blogged all I had to blog yesterday I’ve got nothing much extra to add.
We now bring you today’s feature presentation.

So this series was infinitely stalled due to Moshi’s new life taking priority over subbing cartoons, but he is slowly making progress with the translations. We’ve got up to episode 3 translated so far so once 2 & 3 are qc’d/edited we’ll go ahead and release those too.
We’ve changed a bunch of names to reflect the Archives booklets that came with the Blu-rays, so what you have now can be considered pretty much official, except for “Dunan Nut”, we don’t like that (lol) so we’ll stick to using Deunan Knute.
The audio for both the 720p and 1080p comes from the DTS-HD MA 5.1 track so I just threw FLAC at both. There’s a ton of grain/action in episodes 1-3 so deal with the size. The size falls with episodes 4 & 5 to more reasonable sizes.
Here’s a few words from our sponsors.
kusion: wtf is appleseed <- le sigh
commander`A: American Movies > Chinese cartoons <- he can't be saved!
Also, huge thanks to Tek for helping making this release possible!
iM@S 08 and 09 Delayed
See title.
EP8 – Everything is done except typesetting which is currently resting at Daiz (the typesetter) who is currently moving to a new dwelling, and will be doing so for the next few days. Once he has settled into his new place we’ll get this out. Our apologies for the delays.
EP9 – We’re going very slow with this, considering 8 isn’t even done yet. Considering I (Kusion) have had a long day at work, I don’t feel like staying up all night to wait for my turn. We’ll get this out tomorrow afternoon (if 8 has been released of course). Until then, keep bugging Daiz for updates on ep8, and don’t bug us for ep9! …Not yet, at least.
Please understand and try to be patient and it’ll be done when it’s done. Stop asking when it’ll be released or if we have dropped it. If it was dropped we would have said something.
I asked Kusion to put a post up earlier but he didn’t and since I don’t care about iM@S (I still <3 you though kuz) enjoy this awesome sketch of Mafuyu from Seizon (courtesy of Pixiv) instead.

Ok since I don’t feel like blogging today, here’s the previously promised next 2 volumes of Gosick Blu-rays. Enjoy~

There aren’t many changes in this half of the batch. Just some minor stuff, yada yada. I’ve blogged enough about Gosick already so I’ll keep this short and sweet~ Victorique looks so cute in this art I grabbed from Danbooru.
Patches Note:
Extract the contents of the rar to the same directory as episode 13-24, run the batch file, it will create files with the tag (Batch) in their filename, you can delete the originals after this. I didn’t add a delete function just to be safe because it’s 12 episodes. Also there’s nothing stopping the people who dont like (Batch) in their filenames from simply just renaming the files or changing it to v2/v3/etc. I did this for ease of the patchers.

La fin~ and so that wraps up the 6 month run of the Gosick anime. I’d be lying if i said I didn’t enjoy working on this series, because I quite enjoyed working on it. It was neither about Japanese school kids, nor about Japan itself in general. The setting and the location were both breathes of fresh air to me, and there’s something about the whole “ye olde days” that sparks interest and keeps the flame burning strong. Now it’s pretty clear that they skipped a LOT and I do mean a LOT of details throughout the course of the series, and while that may be so, I felt they did a wonderful job of developing the characters and condensing ~4-5000pgs of material (13 novels @ ~3-400pg each) into the space of 24 ~21min episodes. I’m actually surprised they pulled it off as good as they did, and while it might have not been a perfect execution, I still felt it was exceptional and worthy of praise.
That’s enough finale blogging for me. I hope you guys enjoy the end of the final arc of the series (for those who haven’t already watched in anxiousness!)
The Victorique project consisted of myself, Raze and fnord basically, and the name will be put to rest with the last release of the Gosick Blu-rays (so it’ll be a while still lol~). And so with that, it’s time to roll the credits and close the curtains.
ar (Encoder/Timer/Titlesetter/OP Kara): I’ve already blogged all that I wanted to blog about, so tl;dr it was fun and I had plenty of time to slowpoke and re-encode stuff until I was happy with it. Also I probably spent more time editing/matching fonts/making templates/doing the logo than actual combined time typesetting the majority of the episodes (lol~).
Raze (TLC/Editor/QC): I got pulled into this side project when we figured that I might as well QC the CR scripts for this show since I was going to follow the series anyway. I guess this was a decent show. It did sometimes feel like Victorique was pulling solutions to the mysteries out of nowhere though, especially with the earlier arcs. Gosick was a huge chore to work on some weeks and a breeze on others, because the quality of the CR scripts varied greatly across episodes (random translation/grammar/diction errors here and there, and general awkward, unnatural phrasing). Still, it’s quite something to realize a project you’ve been working on for half a year has just ended. Hopefully you enjoyed our offering of Gosick!
fnord (OP & ED Translator/ED Kara): I was somewhat disappointed with Gosick’s mysteries when the show started, but it improved a great deal from there. All in all, it was a nice enough show, and I adore the first ED. I hope you liked Gosick as well.

In the year 1925… Germany invaded Poland and triggered what would be known as the second World War, or so the story goes. In this universe, it seems like WW2 begins in the mid-20s. I guess we don’t get a timeskip after all ;<
The Christmas of 1924 (between 22 & 23) brought many a gift for all; Kujo got the gift of a haircut, Victorique a chess set, the Marquis de Blois a memento box, Cordelia some pyrotechnics and Roscoe (non-evil one) a pair of black matching pistols (see note at bottom)
That’s enough blogging for me. The delay this week was brought to you by subbing the Ano Hana finale and Raze being employed and overworked (so he claims~). Enjoy this weeks episode, only a few more days till the finale.
Also, with a double-aria this week it may affect Gosick’s release timeframe, but we’ll see what happens and how much work the script needs/etc. We’ll do our best, k~
Pistol note: The pistols Roscoe draws appear to be Mauser C96’s from afar, though on the close-up they have removable mags which the C96 didn’t get until the 1930’s, and look more like modern sub-machine guns than their early 20th century counterparts. I guess considering the timeline for the second world war, historical firearm accuracy would be the least of their worries (lol).
NB: Ano Hana Batch will be done when it’s done.
There’s lots of work to do on it, so when we’ve got the time we’ll get it all done and till then you wait patiently (even if you don’t it won’t make it any faster. Hell, we might even delay it more~).

So we have the Charming Monster (Monstre Charmant) mentioned finally, and we’re about to head into the final arc of the anime. According to the summaries for Episodes 23 & 24 they come out of Gosick VIII, but I don’t really know much than that until the reviews start appearing sometime after June 23rd, when Part 1 of Gosick VIII goes on sale. How they will condense 2 full novels into 2 episodes is beyond me, but we’ll see what happens!
If anybody is interested, this is all the Japanese info I have managed to collect so far on the upcoming VIII Part 1 Novel and Ep23/24 Summaries. Before you ask, it’s in Japanese, so either throw it through Google Translate (the rough translation is readable for the most part), or if you can read Japanese, bonus!

So with that, we’ve reached the conclusion of the tale of Queen Coco’s unsolved murder. Next weeks episode covers Victorique’s birthday, which is still from Gosick VII I believe although it’s possible it’ll be a mix of Gosick VII + GosickS IV (went on sale 25th may). From there on, episodes 23 & 24 look to be from Gosick VIII: Twilight of the Gods Part 1 and possibly some content from Part 2 which won’t be on sale until late July and most likely just ties up all the loose ends.
Gosick VIII is set to take place at the beginning of World War 2 (going by the summary blurb), so I guess that puts the timeline around 1939, which would be roughly 14-15yrs after Gosick VII (December, 1924). Considering Victorique was born on December 25 1910, it’ll put her age somewhere around 28-29 and Kujo around 29-30 iirc (can’t remember his birth year).
Anyway, that’s enough Gosick trivia blogging. Enjoy this weeks ep!

Now for starters this will only be getting a 720p release due to the source not really warranting a 1080p one. I included FLAC audio (even though it doesn’t really warrant it or need it either) but otherwise I’ll get a lot of requests for it, so it’s easier this way. Now to mention size, this is quite large for a 720p but due to the dither/grain in the source and all the dark scenes it is most definitely required to preserve said dark scenes. I’ve done my best to keep size down but this was the best I could do without killing off dither/noise that stops the banding. I don’t want to hear any complaints about how this is too big for a 720p, so deal with it.
The BD version isn’t that different to the TV version, there is no de-censoring or extra scenes (so far). They did remove the GOSICK text between the two parts though. Simply put, download this if you want to archive a better copy of the series. If you are happy with the TV versions then there is no reason to download this because you won’t gain that much, other than the dark scenes looking quite stunning now. The bright scenes look pretty much the same, except without the compression/telecine artefacts, broadcast station’s logo and analog tv is being canned this july warnings (lol).
720p Release
* Video – CRF 17.5
* Audio Track – FLAC 2.0 16bit
Also take note, I’ll be releasing Gosick BD’s every 2 volumes because it’s a hassle to only release 2 episodes each month.
