Annnd, here’s the third project with UTW: Tamayura ~hitotose~. It’s a joint, too! This is my first time translating a series for UTW (aside from that one thing I did before…), so I’m really excited about it. fotc from Mazui kindly agreed to TLC, and Ulrezaj offered to QC the script for me.
This was the most fun I’ve had working on a show. Nothing beats a calming, peaceful, cute show like Tamayura.
Note: We used a share raw for this weeks episode, and we will re-encode it when we get a better source. We won’t be doing this as of next week, as we will get AT-X caps. We’ll be releasing faster next week. Sorry about the video quality, though. We tried!
Hope everyone enjoys it!
Oh, and fotc wanted me to add: Kuroneko = mai waifu
EDIT: There seems to be a problem with the spacing in MPlayer. I have no idea how to troubleshoot it. Have you tried updating? Dunno, bro. For the time being, considering this is a v0, you can re-mux the script yourself (download it here), or wait until our v1 release.
UPDATE: We have the tvk .ts. All of the sources are LQ. We won’t be releasing anything in 720p (maybe 576p) because all I’ve heard are complaints from the encoders. We will be doing the blu-rays, however, so hopefully that makes up for the loss.
We’ll release the v1 (with script fixes and an actual encode) when __ar comes back to help~
UPDATE: (7/10/2011)
Below are 3 frames I picked randomly from one of the TV broadcasts (transport stream). The quality is nearly identical between the 3 broadcasts I have seen so far, and that reinforces the likelihood these problems were present on the tapes used for broadcasting, which have one thing in common, the studio that did the production work. The broadcasts look like utter shit, as per below, and have been field upscaled from most likely the post-production master, which based on the required steps to correct the problems, has a vertical resolution of no greater than 480 lines. Broadcast info/logo/commercial telecining (1 or more re-encodes of the digital tape provided to the station) has left field ghosting on at least 60-70% of fields from the bad upscaling job, and is irreversible/unrepairable on at least 20-30% of the ghosted fields.
tl;dr The broadcast is field upscaled from 480i/p to 1080i, The quality is abysmal, and there is ghosting of previous frames all over the place. I have compromised with Kusion to do 576p for the mkv release, but there will NOT be a 720p release period. It doesn’t even really warrant 576p, but it’s easier to work with so I’m partial on it.

So, after Moshi fell asleep while translating Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon (or whatever happened to him), we dropped the project and picked this up when he came back a few hours later. It’s a pretty cute series, and we had fun working on it. This will be our second project at UTW. Look forward to some fun times (and an earlier release next week)!
Note: This release uses ordered chapters to have the OP as a separate file, which is then seamlessly linked into the episode. Why? The reason is twofold: For one, the OP is a huge bitrate hog. If it was included in the episode 1 file, it’d take a whopping 25% of the entire filesize. And remember that this is just the opening that we are talking about: 90 seconds of content. Time-wise it’s only 6,3% of the episode runtime. The second reason is that the OP looks terrible in the TV broadcast. Due to the excessive filtering required to make it look at least somewhat less terrible, it takes a damn long time to encode the thing. So in other words, future episode encodes would slow down considerably if the OP was included every single time. Thank you for your understanding, and have a nice day!
Clarification Edit: I would normally never use ordered chapters for TV releases, but the huge filesize of the OP and the excessive encoding requirements makes this a very special case.
Oh, and this release is obviously 10-bit, too. Just in case you didn’t get the message about every new show being encoded in 10-bit.

Moshi here, jacking a post before it’s even published.
The spoiler is a wall of text about how horizon is bad and how I don’t want to TL it.
tl;dr: no plot and too confusing. DROPPED.
Oh man. OH MAN. DOES HORIZON SUCK. Like, man. This plot—no, no, wait, I’m getting a Null Pointer Exception. Oh that’s right, THERE IS NO COW LEVEL PLOT. I mean seriously, this show is devoid of any comprehensible storyline until the last minute, and even then it’s impossible to figure out how the past 23 minutes (which consisted of a teacher running away from her {(I.S. + Nanoha) / 2}-like spellcaster-mecha students, beating them up, beating some demon gangsta dude up, then beating the crap out of the main character (who also happens to be the main character of seitokai no ichizon) while some old man and a secretary watch) are remotely related to the explanation just given, save the random “Holy Calendar Year X” things that pop up. Oh right, and I still don’t really understand where they got their uber mecha-tech from or how it works. I mean the archer girl had some shrine maiden chibi mascot go fetch her buffs for her shots via teh intarwebz in exchange for working part-time shifts there and bribing the chibi with cake or something.
Now okay, you might be telling me to go look at a plot summary or something related so I get it. And yeah, there is some stuff on YouTube like this “let us explain some of the jargon you’ll be hearing” video. (in Japanese, text only. If you don’t get it, take a look.) It helped. Like, a lot. But you see, even if I now get it and make an epic TL of this thing and we all somehow get this to the point of release, now you, the audience, will go through the exact same procedure of total and utter cranial chaos. You won’t get who they’re talking about. You won’t understand if something is a meme, a name (or nickname), a landmark, an idea pertaining to the series, or something else entirely. Oh, and you’ll feel like you’re watching from around episode 5, when people who watch from the beginning are starting to get used to the world and people who’ve never watched it become quite confused. No sir, this is episode 1.
Now interestingly enough, there is an Introduction and Prologue section on the official site, the intro talking about the original writer etc. and the prologue equivalent to the last minute of ep1. Not useful. Oh look, there’s also a Story section, how convenie—
What.
No.
No. way.
IT’S GRAYED OUT.
I CAN’T CLICK IT.
THERE IS NO PLOT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLLOLOLOLLOL
I rest my case.
Now uh, regarding what I did do. Cube is semi-generic and quite pantsu, but very watchable. Just another decent loli-comes-stumbling-into-your-house show, lol :3
…well, at least so far. The fight scenes may not be so.
Anyway, it’s easy to work with and shouldn’t be much of a hassle to keep up with, either. Do enjoy.
Oh right, and I’m back after my 1-season hiatus. BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!

I am very happy to present to all of you our offering for the Fall 2011 season: Fate/Zero! This series tells the story of the 4th Holy Grail War, precedent to the 5th as detailed by the original game of the franchise, Fate/Stay Night. You can jump straight into this series if you haven’t encountered anything Type-Moon before, but you might be confused at some parts, and you’ll also pretty much spoil the entire Fate/Stay Night plot for yourself.
Loli Rin almost gave me a heart attack from moe overdose, and Irisviel was so lovely that I had visual orgasms every time she appeared, but I decided to go with Loli Rin for the release pic since Irisviel will surely have a lot of screentime to come.
With just the first 1-hour episode, we’ve covered both the prologue and Act 1 of the original light novels, which would amount to about a third of the first book. How they’ll stretch out the rest of the material to accommodate 25 episodes should prove interesting.
We’re using Aniplex subs, but I’ve given them quite the editing makeover, hence the tag. The delay was due to some unfortunate problems we ran into with encoding; I did take the time to do an extra QC run, though. It also turned out the MBS cap wasn’t much better than the Tokyo MX initial airing, so we’ll be using the MX caps instead as it’s faster etc.
And that’s enough blogging from me. Please enjoy!
arEdit: The HD release is 10-bit. Please make sure your codecs/codec packs are up to date. If you see falling tiles or it looks like the video is on acid, you are probably using non-recent codecs and it would be a good idea to update them.
Was so very tempted to use 18:05 or 18:37, but Miki has been getting a lot of attention recently. Went the cliche route!

Mid-season climax! What a murderous ep. And what a pay-off!
It looks like things are going up for our 13 beloved Ladies. Now that we’re in the second half, we’ll probably get to see a good deal more conclusive plot threads instead of noodling around introducing everyone. The only major characters who haven’t had eps focused on them yet are Takane, Hibiki, Ritsuko and Kotori (she was introduced with the idols on A-1’s website!). Will P-san take them all to the top? Does he dare take the harem route?!
Look forward to it!
Kusion edit: FUCK.
Here’s where we are so far regarding our plans for the Fall 2011 season.
…and that’s all that we can say for sure. We really don’t know what else we’ll pick up at this point in time. The only other Fall 2011 show I really wanted to do (Haganai) is oversubbed, so much of this rests on what Moshi and/or 8thsin decide to pick up, what shows end up being on-the-dot simulcasted, and whether the scheduling falls into place in terms of air times, supporting staff etc.
I guess this is also the place to mention that we’ll be switching to 10-bit x264 encodes for the Fall 2011 season (put simply, you’ll be getting better video for smaller filesizes at a small compatibility sacrifice). We’ll probably keep doing XviDs as our compatibility release, though.

<3. That is all.
This time it isn’t Daiz’s fault. Kusion is too busy working on some mahoushoujo flick (Cardcaptor Sakura iirc) to finish off IM@S or something. The rest of us at UTW have nothing to do with the IM@S project so get mad at him for being slack, and not the group as a whole. When he stops slacking off you’ll get your IM@S.
Anyway, since I don’t care about IM@S have another Seizon pic instead. You will get a new Seizon pic every time IM@S is delayed and I have to make a post about it.

The release of this episode marks the conclusion of the Angel Fix arc and the end of the Kamimemo series! It’s been quite a ride, with the project staff displaying greatly varying levels of enthusiasm/apathy throughout the project, but we made it!
We here at UTW were pleasantly surprised JCStaff handled the ending episode pretty well unlike a certain anime earlier this year about armed detectives.
As is customary for us with the end of every series, here’s the staff curtain call!
8thsin (Translator): There were some really boring episodes in between, but KamiMemo started strong and ended on a high note for me. Alice and Major were a nightmare to translate, and fansubbing 2 days in a row was tough, but it was a nice challenge. I really enjoyed working on my very first show here. Hopefully there will be more series for me to translate before everything gets simulcast.
Kusion (Editor): It was a bit of a challenge to work on this every Friday. I wasn’t much of a fan, especially when they did what they did to Ayaka. After seeing the end, though, I noticed how fun of a project it is. Hopefully we’ll get a season two, so we can see more about what happens here (but if there is a season two, remove Alice pls).
commander`A (Timer/Typesetter that never showed up): SHIT CARTOON SUCKED HOPE YOU ALL DIE (* ̄▽ ̄*)
ar (Typesetter/Encoder/Comfag’s Fallback Timer): I did my work plus others’ work, such is life lol~. The series needed to be longer to show us the grim dark feel of the novels, but at least one thing is for certain, JC Staff didn’t ruin the ending. Somebody must have their script writers on a leash this time around! Also Comfag stinx pretty intensely.
Raze (QC): I had to juggle tutoring my kawaii highschool student and fansubbing this on my Saturdays. QC’ing proved to be a pretty tough job when either 1) Eighthsin lacked sleep/was sick; or 2) Kusion decided to go to bed and leave editing to me. Things usually went well when they were both around though~
I shall announce our Fall 2011 “plans” sometime in the next few days.
And that’s it from us! Please enjoy the final episode!
arEdit: PS: We won’t be doing Blu-rays for this series due to time constraints and so on, but if anybody wants to use our scripts to do their own, feel free to do so.

Sorry this comes kind of late, guys. A bunch of shit happened during QC which resulted in a lot of my time being wasted. At any rate, here you go.
In this episode, Alice talks biochemistry and genetics, and even scalar and vector quantities. We also get poppies and drugs and angel wings and stuff.
