Unlimited Translation Works

About Nisemonogatari

After some deliberation with the involved staff last night, we’ve decided to hold out working on Nisemonogatari until the Blurays, regardless of the quality of Crunchyroll subs.
While we did work on simulcasted shows in the past, the reasons for doing them have always outweighed the reasons not to. With Gosick, Crunchyroll provided no 720p version; with Fate/Zero, the streams were 360p and hardsubbed. In both cases, the total work involved wasn’t too bad, either.
Neither is the case with Nisemonogatari. Crunchyroll will be providing 720p video and subs about an hour after airing, and the work involved in subbing such a series is astronomical. We’d probably end up releasing up to 24 hours after airing, which makes the venture all the more pointless when speedy rips at 720p resolution will be available so quickly. Not to mention that this would be by far the smartest decision in terms of preserving our sanities; we’d probably burn out a few weeks into the show working under such demanding and pointless conditions.
So rather than doing all the work twice, we’ve decided to hold out until the BDs and do a good job on those. Sorry to disappoint those of you who were looking forward to following Nisemonogatari with us, but unfortunately our lives do come first.
EDIT (8/1/2012):: Turns out CR’s translation is pretty good, and they also translated all the important signs. Furthermore, CR’s video actually has more details than the transport stream (but more banding). There’s really no reason left for us to work on the Nise TV broadcasts anymore, so we’re more than happy to settle for working on the Blurays.

NOTICE: Looks like we got trolled by mkvtoolnix v5.2.1, which failed to tag OTF fonts correctly during muxing, breaking the OP style; it should look like this. You can download and use the font fix patch linked above to fix the problem.
So much for trying to get the first episode out before leaving for work (about 6 hours after airing). It was actually translated and timed well before that, but it got delayed because of… you guessed it, typesetting. Among disasters such as broken software, fnord having to go to bed and leaving ar with the signs, and general herpderp, the episode was a giant pain in the ass to typeset and of course, ar just had to get everything right (and we love him for it).
Either way, it’s out now! More Ayatsuji-san is always welcome, especially in the bathroom.
We’ll look to see how we can iron out the kinks in our subbing process before the next episode airs, so it’s safe to say you can expect a reasonably speedy (if not lightning-fast) release next week.
arEdit: Episode 01 XviD has all the current fixes, including those which will be in the next episode sign wise.

After a long day of work, UTW and Mazui present you with Kill Me Baby! It’s been a fun first episode after having been a fan of the manga, so we hope you enjoy the release.

We’ll see you again next Thursday for a blast of fun.

Check below for information regarding the opening translation:
There’s too much nonsense in the OP for you to keep track of. Trust me.
For those bound to ask: Amagami SS+ will be coming later today.

Fate/Zero S1 – Batch

Here’s the Fate/Zero season 1 batch, earlier than promised!
Included in this batch is the uncut version of episode 11 that aired several hours ago on Tokyo MX, with about 4 minutes 20 seconds of extra footage excluding the OP. The entire Grail Dialogue should make quite a bit more sense this time round.
Episodes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 13 have all been v2’d for reasons ranging from fixing a minor typo (episodes 7+13), to minor fixes such as the spelling of Kayneth’s Mystic Code, “Volumen Hydragyrum” (episodes 2+8+9), to doing an additional edit pass (episodes 1+6).
Commence 4-month wait until S2… ;_;
NB: The XviD Batch is identical to the regular releases, apart from the Uncut Episode 11 included.

Nisemonogatari / Amagami SS+ Trailers

The following section is from our resident Monogatarifag Moshiburner.

Oh the things I do to make a blog post amusing… It took me all of ten whole stinkin’ minutes to paint.net that thing.
But MAN am I on fire for Nise! Epic sequel incoming, I swear. I’m burning through the novels as I type. No I’m not. I’m going to sleep now. But when I wake up, you know what’s goin’ down. My morale! Wait what no that’s a good one but NO go away now yes just leave okay good thank you!
So, as a show of my/our overflowing enthusiasm (he says as he shoves fake moshiburner behind the curtains), here is the following 60-second promotional video of Nisemonogatari, or, as we the staff have decided, Impostory:

Was it good? Yes it was. No it wasn’t? Well you’re no good either. Is ar’s typesetting fabulous? Yes, as always. Are fnord and Daiz going to work the hardest and get forgotten again anyway? Probably. IS THIS WHOLE THING A FAKE? THEN OUR PLANS MUST BE REAL!
…I think I’ll stick to easier jokes. I pray that someone understands it.
Anyhoo, I’ll let Raze take over from here. We shall meet again!
…And next time, you’re in for one hell of a story.

——————————————-

Okay, my turn. We decided to sub the above Nise PV as a “practice run” of sorts to figure out how we’d handle the translation of certain phrases and terms, and the typesetting. Things worked out pretty well, I think.

While ar was wrapping the signs up, it occurred to me it wouldn’t really be fair to Amagami fans if we subbed a Nise PV and just ignored dat Ayatsuji trailer. So… here it is!

Yeah, we’re reusing the fonts and stuff from the original. Nostalgia etc.
And no, we didn’t forget about Carnival Phantasm. Please see our release FAQ on the right for status information.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I’m a bit late, but happy new year! Enjoy it and enjoy having to write 2012 out now because that just fucking sucks balls.
Be sure to get drunktoo, because it’s good for you.
ENJOY 2012, GUYS!

Winter 2012 Plans

We are confirmed for the following, barring last-minute simulcasting:

 1. Amagami SS+
 2. Nisemonogatari

Both of these shows will be UTW solo projects.
We don’t normally do more than 2-3 shows a season as we are a small group of busy people, so this will most likely be it.

New layout

Here’s the new layout! UTW 2.0, activate! Minimalist design, go!
It’s near completion, but there are still some bugs. If anyone spots any bugs or errors they find, I’d love to hear them. Also, if you have any suggestions to the layout itself (design, banner, etc), let me know and we’ll get started on it right away.
Hopefully everyone enjoys the new design.
(As everyone should already know the obvious message).
Changed the layout design. Special thanks to Balance` for the banner. Check out his stuff here!
I’m still working out some of the other issues (like the footer).

Fate/Zero – 13 (END)

What an episode to conclude what has been an incredible ride through the first half of Fate/Zero! It was pretty nasty of the studio to choose to end the first season where they did, but I guess that makes the wait for the second season all the more painful worthwhile. We’ll of course be doing the second season and the BDs!
And where would the post for a final episode be without a staff curtain call? Here are the folks who’ve been bringing you your weekly dose of Fate/Zero!
Raze(TLC/Editor/QC/Timer):
I’m a giant TypeMoon fag and absolutely loved the original Fate/Zero novels, so when news came out that ufotable would be animating it, it felt like Christmas had come early (double entendre unintended). And for the most part, it was everything I could hope for in a good adaptation: they faithfully stuck to the novels (except for episode 10, but LOLI RIN HNNNNGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH), and the animation was incredible (except for episode 11, but oh well). Cue in the awesome soundtrack and the voice acting and the plot and everything else I might’ve forgotten, and I think it’s safe to say this is one of the best series I’ve watched in a LONG time.
Aniplex licensing simulcast rights didn’t douse our desire to work on this series and present it to all of you, and I’m glad we stuck to it (aren’t you?). This wasn’t exactly the easiest series to work on, and with just two people handling it all you’d think it’d be a recipe for delays and disaster, but it all somehow worked out in the end every week. It’s been one hell of a ride and I look forward to seeing you all again for more awesome in April. Thank you, and thank you again for sticking with us!
ar(Encoder/Typesetter/Timer):
So, this marks the midpoint of the story and seeing everything animated so far, with such great detail and almost no expense spared (especially for a TV show), has really blown my mind. The dialogue moved me at times, and for the most part it really made me feel for the characters and their personalities, and their goals. I had high expectations from UFOTable, but so far, what I’ve seen has left those expectations so far behind, I don’t know what to say, other than EPIC.
I had a blast so far working with Raze on this series, and am really looking forward to doing it again, come April. It’s just been the two of us working on this project for the majority of the first season, so things haven’t been as fast as people would have liked, but in my humble opinion, for two people to get each episode out each week without too many delays, and never longer than 12-13hrs after airing, for a show which can be so difficult at times, was a pretty good job well done. I really hope you guys enjoy the episodes so far as much as I have, and onwards to next season!
Kusion timed the first couple episodes, before ar and I decided to just do it ourselves.
And that’s it for the Fall 2011 season! I’ll announce our Winter 2012 plans within the week, although it should be pretty darn obvious what shows we’ll be doing.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you all again in 2012!

Oops, forgot to rage last week. Ehh well you know, the usual deal with engrish and whatnot. This week…oh right. Delays. Yeah it’s like 24 hours before episode 13 would’ve aired if it existed…
Moshi fell asleep or something, so I’ll take it from here. I hope everyone enjoyed waiting for our releases! Here’s a few words from the staff:
Moshiburner (TL/TLC/QC): Spoilertagging before I even start because I know this is going to be craaaaazyyyyyy~
Oh, right. First of all, yes I did fall asleep while typing. NEW SKILL ACQUIRED! So my sternocleidomastoid is aching. Like a bawss.
Aightey, onto the series. C^3, as you can tell, is about the logical construction of various torture devices throughout history by reconfiguring many small cubes which originally fit into one large cube. To do this, Fear constantly needs to use her spacial recognition skills and use her power to change the velocity vectors of her cubies and recreate her maddening tools. Yay, geometry. But hey, at least we aren’t doing linear algebra, if you know what I mean. Hehe, EHEHEHEHE yeah I’ve been doing math problems recently ;_;
Anyway, yay artwork, boo fanservice. This last episode was epic in that it earned the dreaded animation censor for something that isn’t just excessively revealing. Thas right, the other NSFW(ya know ya like it fnord!). Props to them for going so far with the insanity.
Overall, decent show. I feel it surpassed other generic Fighting with Fanservice (abbreviated FwF, remember that kids. If it goes viral, you heard it here first!) shows with the “we don’t do generic lines of speech in-between fights” policy and the murderfaces/epic guro. Yup, I’m satisfied!
By the way, was that picture her butt or breast, I still—jk.
Daiz (Encoder who consistently worked on the series on time): I was the only person to work on time for this series every single week and I was completely forgotten from the roll call initially… I guess the lesson of the day is: Delay stuff for days to make people remember your work ( ゚∀゚)アハハ八八ノヽノヽノヽノ \ / \/ \
8thSin (TLC): I stuffed my thing up Fear’s tight crack last night, too. It was tight, she screamed a lot.
Kusion (Editing/TS/QC): I remember trying to convince Moshi to do this over Horizon back during the fall season. He didn’t want to, until he saw the first episode of Horizon. At any rate, this has been a really fun show to work on. I’m sorry about all the delays, there’ll be no more delays for spring season. Now, enjoy the final episode or I’ll curse you!
Sindalf (Timing):
Raze (TLC/QC – first few episodes): A show combining both fanservice and crazy faces. How absurd.
__ar (TS assistance): Silverlink did some really cool stuff with the animations for this series and I enjoyed working on it, regardless of how slowpoke we were! 呪うぞ~
